Creature type is a classification that is distinguished by the mechanics of Disease, Miasma, Edge of Extinction, Charm Animal, all hunts except Undead Hunt and Skree Battle, and all weapon slaying mods except Charrslaying and Deathbane. It often, but not always, corresponds to the physical form of creatures, such as their taxonomy or species in lore.

Creatures of the same type will often share other traits, although this is by design rather than a mechanic.

  • An example is that types representing non sentient creatures will usually be limited to one or a few professions.
  • Another is that some types have an associated skill that all or most creatures of that type will have, eg. Spectral Agony.

Some bounties target creature type, as do some weapon upgrades of slaying.
