Globs of Ectoplasm are highly valued pieces of material, due to their rarity, and to the fact that they are used, along with Obsidian Shards, to craft Obsidian armor. They are often used as substitute currency for transactions exceeding 100 Platinum.

Notes

  • Ecto or e are abbreviated terms for Globs of Ectoplasm.
  • Since a player can only hold a maximum of 100Platinum at any one time, these have become a sort of additional currency to facilitate trades or transfers of over 100Platinum. For example, something worth 100k + 20 ectos would be worth 100Platinum and 20 globs of ectoplasm. This derived system of trading has proven very useful in the trading of very rare (and thus very expensive) weapons or minipets. For exceptionally rare items, Armbraces of Truth may be used instead.
  • At times, the rare material trader may sell out, making this item temporarily unavailable.
  • Beware of scams, Globs of Ectoplasm share skin and/or color with many other items. Always double check before making a trade involving ectos. Especially noteworthy are Globs of Frozen Ectoplasm, which have no value outside of Wintersday festivities and cannot be "thawed" in any way.

Trivia

  • Ectoplasm is a term coined to refer to a theoretical substance that is associated with the formation of ghosts or the remnants of a haunting or possession. Generally, it refers to the physical manifestation of the spiritual entity, a sort of ethereal "body" used by the ghost or other creature to manipulate the real world. Little if any scientific evidence has been documented supporting the existence of the substance in real life.
