Guild Wars is a CORPG, or Competitive/Cooperative Online Role Playing Game developed for Windows by ArenaNet and published by NCsoft. The first campaign of Guild Wars, Guild Wars Prophecies was released on April 28, 2005.
Guild Wars does not have a monthly subscription fee, there is only a one time cost of purchasing the game. It uses a campaign-based model, where each campaign allows a player to play the story with the professions available to that campaign.
Editions
In total three campaigns have been released, all of which are stand-alone campaigns. The 4th campaign, named Utopia was cancelled. Instead Guild Wars' only expansion Eye of the North was created, incorporating certain portions of the content planned for Utopia. Eye of the North serves as a bridge to the sequel Guild Wars 2, which is currently still being developed.
