The Shiverpeak Mountains is a massive mountain range running from north to south almost across the whole continent of Tyria. They are home to the Dwarves, the Norn, various wildlife, both dangerous and benign.

A continent divided

The Shiverpeak Mountains begin from the northernmost areas of the known world and stretches down all the way to the northwestern border of the Crystal Desert. It forms an imposing barrier between the present-day human nations of Ascalon (east) and Kryta (west). The Charr Homelands borders the mountain range in the northeastern areas, while the sunken kingdom of Orr is situated by the Tarnished Coast, which is at the southwestern end of the mountain range.

Major regions

The Prophecies storyline takes place in two subregions named simply as the Northern Shiverpeaks and the Southern Shiverpeaks. Much later, the Eye of the North expansion also introduced the Far Shiverpeaks region, home of the powerful and individualistic Norn. There is also a large dungeon-like area known as Sorrow's Furnace, an area controlled by the xenophobic and hostile Stone Summit Dwarves.

Northern Shiverpeaks is actually the central section of the mountain range, and the Prophecies storyline will lead players across this region fairly early. There is Stone Summit presence here but this region is the least dangerous of the three regions.

Players later return to the Shiverpeaks Mountains much further south from where they first entered. The Southern Shiverpeaks encompasses the rest of the mountain range that is south of Beacon's Perch. This region is relatively more dangerous as the Prophecies storyline has already entered the last half at this point. The northern and southern regions are connected by one single pass. This long and treacherous trek, known as the Drok's run, starts from Lornar's Pass (south of Beacon's Perch), into Dreadnought's Drift, and Snake Dance to arrive at Droknar's Forge.

The mountain range segment to the north of Ascalon's borders are the Far Shiverpeaks. The Eye of the North storyline begins in Boreal Station of the Far Shiverpeaks, after the transition quest that brings characters of the other campaigns here. This region is as dangerous as the Southern Shiverpeaks, if not more.
