The Martialist

The Martialist is a true Martial profession that relies on wepons like gloves to make it work. I have drawn up an idea about such a class and I think it would be fun and interesting. Granted, I had designed the class for GW1, but it may be of use in GW2. The idea is that the martialist's damage comes from an increased attack speed (innate Primary Attribute effect) though low damage auto attacks and even skill attaks. My idea was to make the skills that they used have very powerful, but conditional effects, thus forcing the player to choose the proper target rather than just targeting the monk. Example: "if this skill strikes a non-moving foe, then that foe is knocked down and bleeds." I wanted the Martialist to be a proession where the player needed to make quick, educated decisions, or the skills may not do much, if anything. They use adrenaline, and have ways of building it quickly (plus IAS) however, strike the wrong target, and it may cost you all adrenaline. "If this skill strikes a moving foe, you lose all adrenaline" or "if this attack fails to hit, you lose all adrenaline" thereby increasing the ammount of selective targeting required by the profession. I would think this profession may have low base armor, but have ways of increasing it.

Why this is a good idea
  •   This class would require player decision making in a melee class. The ability to combo skills together would make for good buildmaking, but eliminate the gimmicky nature of assassins.
  •   Would be an interesting alternative to a warrior, allowing for a melee party pressure of sorts.
  •   Note: The primary attribute IAS would only operate on Martialist weaponry. No supersonic scythes!
Why it may not work out
  •   Could be too much in combination with other professions' adrenal skills. Think Skull Crack.
  •   May have too many counters, with the conditional nature of the skills, it may be possible for an enemy to invalidate your effots simply by blocking one skill, or maybe even just moving. The Martialist may fall pray to the same simple counters as the Assassin in this respect.
