[edit] Cursed Angel's Issue 21:26, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

  • Issue: Smiting Prayer as whole is weak and worthless, this skill is by far one of the worst. As it's an elite i guess buffing this wouldn't unbalance smiting prayers as monks rarely use it except for buffing up the attack damage on a melee ally. This skill should be more of a twin to Word of Healing but for differance being less useful on a foe under 50% health.
  • Suggestion: Change it to: Elite Spell. Target foe takes 15...53...65 holy damage. If your target was over 50% Health, that foe takes an additional 10...30...35 holy damage. If your target was below 50% Health, Word of Censure takes 5 additional seconds to recharge. Increase recharge to 3 seconds. Decrease energy cost to 5.

Discussion

Interesting suggestion, improving smiting prayers is not something on our list of issues to address right now, but I'll throw this in my list of things to consider when we need to buff this line. Izzy @-'---- 01:19, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Lilondra's issue

  • issue: same as above.
  • Suggestion: Lower energy cost to 5,health should be checked before the damage is dealt resulting in a far more effective skill.

[edit] ArisB's Issue

  • issue Pretty expensive for a damage skill, costing 10 energy and disabling itself when used on low health targets, which makes it underpowered for an elite skill.
  • Suggestion5Image:Tango-energy.png1Image:Tango-activation-darker.png4Image:Tango-recharge-darker.png

Elite Spell. Target takes 5...29...35 damage. If your target is still above 33% health, it takes an additional 10...34...40 damage.

These are the same damage values as the current Word, but this version is more placed toward direct damage, and doesn't have an extremely non user friendly way to stop Word of Censure spikes which will never happen.

Holy shit, dude, do you really want people to bring four WoC spammers into... pretty much any arena? Even in TA, this would be pretty insane ranged, barely interruptible damage output. Recharge of 8, at least. -- Armond WarbladeImage:User Armond sig image.png 19:40, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
I just looked at it again, and I think I did make it a bit too powerful. Good call. I'll revise it then. Activation will make it prone to ranger interrupts I think, recharge is the same as our current WoC, so same DPS and I just removed the recharge. Another option is where unconditional damage is 5...17...20, and conditonal is 10...46...55, so that it won't be used for pressure on low health targets. Do you think maybe 50% health would be a better requirement?.ArisB24.205.38.234 23:14, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, because 33% health is still only 200 hp, which is, like, one good (or at least lucky) hit with the guy at 35-37% and another two hits from other people on your team. Even with monk intervention, the recharge is low enough (and in 8v8 you have enough people) for a kill at that point. -- Armond WarbladeImage:User Armond sig image.png 03:07, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

3 Echo Rodgort's Spammers with Half RCT can do worse. I think "Target takes 5...37...45 damage. If your target is still above 33% health, it takes an additional 10...34...40 damage." is fine. But leave it at 10 energy, if the damage can total to 85+ at 15 smite.

  • Suggestion

Target takes 30...54...60 holy damage. If your target is still above 33% health, it takes an additional 15...27...30 damage and you lose 5 energy. If target was below 33%, this spell takes an additional 10 seconds to recharge. 5en. 1cast 3rec. OR... Target takes 5...61...75 damage. If your target is still above 33% health, this spell inflicts burning for 3...5...5 seconds. Phill Gaston 03:59, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Increase damage without resulting in spike builds.

Issue
This skill is garbage.
Suggestion
Change to 5e 1s 3r. "Elite Hex Spell. For 3 seconds, target takes 5...13...16 light damage each second. If target > 33% health it does 15...39...47 damage". That way, it is efficient to use while discouraging spike builds(since the direct damage is conditional.

[edit] my issue

  • issue: same as above
  • Suggestion: make it a woh of the smite line

target is enchanted with word ofcensure all foes ajacent to target take xdmg holy dmg and target is healed for xhealth if target is below 50% health the health gained is double 3/4 cast 10engy 5second recharge

[edit] FleshAndFaith's Suggestion

Issue
Useless, high energy, moderate dmg, no finishing capabilities.
Suggestion
Revamp! Word of Censure: 10 Energy, 3/4th sec Cast Time, 7 sec Recharge. "Target foe takes 15...59...73 Holy Damage. If this hits an attacking foe, that foe takes an additional 5...20...33 Holy Damage and is set on fire for 0...1...2 seconds." This gets the raw power of holy damage and plays off it's name. This way you get a decent bonus, as opposed to a penalty. The 10 energy stays to make it potent, but not debilitating to cast. The cast time makes it moderately difficult to interrupt, but not impossible, and the recharge keeps the energy cost in check, allowing for moderate spammability. And the conditional damage being triggered by martial classes falls right in line with plenty other smiting prayers.

[edit] Wildcat's issue

  • Issue
Worse than flare in energy, recharge, and only better than flare in damage when Smiting Prayers is at 6 (if Fire Magic was equal), and, Word Of Censure has the annoying "If your target was below 33% Health, Word of Censure takes 20 additional seconds to recharge."
  • Suggestion
Change skill to simply "Target foe takes 20...67...80 holy damage and If target foe was below 33% health, Word of Censure uses an additional 5Image:Tango-energy.png."

5Image:Tango-energy.png1Image:Tango-activation-darker.png2Image:Tango-recharge-darker.png.

[edit] Rework the skill

Issue
This skill is trash.
Suggestion
"For 15 seconds, Smiting Prayers against that foe recharge 25...67...85% faster".

[edit] Same as above

Issue
Same as above. It's poor, but we don't really want to buff it so that we get smiting spikers.
Suggestion
This was never meant to be a spike skill (hence the 20s recharge) so why not give it more of a support role? Maybe:
10 Energy 1 Activation time 10 Recharge time
Elite Spell. Target foe takes 15...63...75 holy damage, and if attacking or casting a hex spell, that foe is knocked down. If your target was below 33% Health, Word of Censure takes 12 additional seconds to recharge.
Something like this would allow the user to relieve pressure by knocking down attackers, kind of like an elite Bane Signet. To prevent constant KDs (at the cost of a lot of energy, admittedly) it would need a higher recharge. There wouldn't be much point in spiking with it (especially considering the increased recharge) because then you'd be paying for KDs you're not gonna get, and also you won't get the KD on monks, say, meaning it's more of a linebacking-style skill.
Thematically, "censure" means disapproval, condemnation or critisism or whatever, so having this skill one which punishes attackers and those spreading nasty evil hexes fits the name as well as what I think the idea of a smiting monk should be in the first place.

[edit] Gordon Ecker's issue - 05:06, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

(Discussion link)

Issue
Smiting Prayers is weak on its' own and abusable in conjunction with other monk attributes, and Word of Censure is a weak skill.
Suggestion
Change to one of the following:
  • "Elite Enchantment Spell. For 30 seconds, your Smiting Prayers skills recharge X% faster and cost Y% less Energy, your healing skills heal for 50% less Health and you cannot cast Healing Prayers or Protection Prayers enchantments.".
  • "Elite Enchantment Spell. For 30 seconds, your Smiting Prayers skills recharge X% faster and cost Y% less Energy and your healing skills heal for 50% less Health. This enchantment ends if you cast a Healing Prayers or Protection Prayers enchantment.".

[edit] Arcdash's Issue

Issue
Smiting lacks an elite to use in a support build, other than Balthazar's Pendulum, which monk's don't use anyway(A secondary can use it much more effectively usually)
Suggestion
Revamp this skill into a sort of elite Reversal of Fortune, maybe like
5 Energy 1 Activation time 10 Recharge time
Elite Enchantment Spell. For 8 seconds, the next time target ally would take damage, that ally gains that amount of Health instead, maximum (0 Smiting Prayers)...(12 Smiting Prayers)...(15 Smiting Prayers). The source of the damage is knockdown.

Probably a bit overpowered, but I couldn't figure out how to fit a KD in in another way, and if it had damage instead of a KD it'd be just like Vengful Weapon. Arcdash 23:18, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Buff it now that smiter's boon is gone

Issue
Bad damage to cost ratio, needless conditional.
Suggestion
5e 1s 2r "Does 15...63...75 light damage, and you cannot use skills on allies for 5 seconds." The monks can still heal themselves but they cannot support allies as well.
Sounds a bit like Flare, with recharge and armor ignoring - also feels a bit like pre nerf/boost Discord. Also the mechanic you're suggesting is a bit odd, untargeted heals like Heal Party can still be used, make it "all other skills/spells are recharging for 5 seconds" 62.194.247.7 10:12, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Lancy1214 Proposal

Issue
-Direct damage doesn't really fit the theme of the smiting monk
-Bad damage; smiting prayers need "funner" and more "offensive" ways to heal their party

Suggestion

  • Word of Censure Word of Censure - 10Image:Tango-energy.png, 1/4Image:Tango-activation-darker.png, 12Image:Tango-recharge-darker.png - (Smiting Prayers) Hex Spell. "For 1...3...4 seconds, target foe does -5...21...25 damage with attacks and the target of that foe gains a protective buff that reduces damage done to that ally by -5...21...25 for 1...3...4 seconds."
