This is the area in the Mesa you access during the mission Augury Rock. To get here, talk to Great Ritual Priest Zahmut. Here you can find your Doppelganger and the key to ascend. This is a solo-mission. To access the mesa, you have to light the three shrines by walking into the circle so you have the Divine Fire enchantment on you. You can only do this if you have completed Dunes of Despair, Thirsty River and Elona Reach.

[edit] Rewards
Apart from the other Prophecies missions, this mission grants 50000 XP for completing it the first time for Prophecies characters. Non-Prophecies characters can only receive this Ascension bonus if they have not completed Nahpui Quarter or Hunted!. The bonus reward remains at 1000 XP though, also rewards in hard mode remain standard.

20 (30) Doppelganger (profession depends on your profession)
[edit] Walkthrough
The mission objective is simply to defeat the Doppelganger. The bonus objective is to defeat the Doppelganger within 10 minutes.
Note that you need to have Great Ritual Priest Zahmut take you to the area with the ghosts. Then, walk past them and you will see three stones with patterns on them. Step on them in any order and you will receive a cut-scene showing the rock break open.
[edit] Notes
- The doppelganger has 12 in every attribute, even in Hard Mode, including the primary from the secondary profession.
- The doppelganger will not queue skills, which means that you can spam a skill chain more quickly than the Doppelganger.
- The Doppelganger can't have a Pet.
- The Doppelganger can't use any PvE-only skills (except Vampirism, level 8), however, they will be on his Skill Bar.
- Below lists the tactics that can be used to kill the Doppelganger but a simple way to kill him is just to bring Ursan Blessing; Doppelganger can't use PvE skills so he will go down in no time in either mode.
[edit] PvE Skills Only
- Change secondary to Mesmer and equip Arcane Echo
- Bring Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support
- Leave other slots empty, enter the mission and step on two of the 3 rocks
- Cast Arcane Echo before stepping on the third rock
- Immediately target the Doppelganger, who will be casting Arcane Echo
- Cast Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support and the echoed version. He will die in seconds, both in Hard and Normal Mode.
[edit] Warrior
- Bring Frenzy, but do not use it. Instead, just attack the Doppelganger and let it use Frenzy.
- Bring Wild Blow and a number of Adrenal Skills. Use only Adrenal Skills while letting the Doppelganger lose its adrenaline from Wild Blow.
- Do not bring any healing skills such as Healing Signet only spammable melee attack skills, you should be able to attack faster and the doppelganger will not be able to heal.
- Bring Deadly Riposte and Dolyak Signet. Set your strength to 15 so Dolyak Signet can be kept on constantly, and max out tactics so that Deadly Riposte will do a lot of damage. Don't attack, simply keep Dolyak active and use Deadly Riposte when it recharges and the Doppelganger will do the rest for you.
- Move within melee distance so the Doppelganger changes to axe, this way deadly riposte will be useful.
- Use an elemental damaging weapon and the complementing Elementalist "Conjure (fire/frost/lightning)" spell. He doesn't have an elemental weapon, so you will out-damage him.
- A very good idea for any level is to bring Dolyak Signet, Frenzy, Riposte, Deadly Riposte, and "For Great Justice!" (FGJ). Put as many points in Strength and Tactics as possible and equip a sword. Stay in melee range and use FGJ and Dolyak Signet. Attack him constantly to build adrenaline. Use Riposte/Deadly Riposte as much as possible and he will be dead quickly.
- Hard Mode - Dolyak Signet as soon as you are in his melee range, Deadly Riposte quickly after that, and then Defensive Stance. When it ends use Shield Stance in addition to the signet to receive as little damage as possible. Don't melee attack him. Keep using the riposte and let him do the work. Keep in mind that Defensive Stance ends if you use another skill, so use it wisely. Also attribute points should be divided between Strength and Tactics.
- Hard Mode - Bring Mark of Rodgort, Dolyak Signet and Defy Pain with a fiery weapon. Start using Rodgort, and then come and just attack him and use Defy Pain every time you can. You will win.
[edit] Ranger
- Bring Troll Unguent and an interrupt skill; he will not interrupt you, while you can easily prevent him from healing.
- Bring an animal companion and use Pet Attacks. The Doppelganger will not bring a pet.
- Bring a large number of Nature Rituals. The Doppelganger will waste time activating the rituals which will help or harm both sides equally.
- Bring several spammable attack skills. You should be able to activate them more quickly than the Doppelganger.
- Move within melee distance of the Doppelganger. He will change to a melee weapon for which he has no skills equipped. Continue attacking the Doppelganger with bow attacks. Or use kindle arrows.
- Bring Several Traps and plant them along the side walkways.Avoid and lure the Doppelganger into them, and he will eventually die.
- Use spammable blocking skills, a pet, and Otyugh's Cry to render them all useless on the Doppelganger.
- Hard Mode - Bring 5 Nature Rituals, Predatory Bond and Rampage as One, attack until dead. Using Predatory Bond if you feel that you need healing.
- Hard Mode - Bring five Nature Rituals, Troll Unguent, an area-of-effect skill, and Distracting Shot. The Doppelganger will waste time activating the rituals. Make sure to bring quickening zephyr so the nature rituals recharge quicker. On about the third nature ritual, the Doppelganger will use troll unguent. Use distracting shot on him at that moment. When all five nature rituals are done, the Doppelganger will use the Area-of-Effect skill. Just move out of the way. After this use your Area-of Effect skill (it may be interrupted)(the Doppelganger and his rituals should be in the same place). This will destroy his nature rituals so he has to make new ones. Heal when you need to, just continue attacking him until he is dead.
- Hard Mode - Bring 6 Nature Rituals, Melandru's Arrows and Penetrating Attack. Since you both have an enchantment on you (Divine Fire), your attacks will do a constant Bleeding and +24 damage. Every two attacks you can use Penetrating Attack. This should kill him very quickly.
[edit] Monk
- Bring Blessed Aura, Divine Boon, Life Attunement, Holy Veil and four damaging skills from Smiting Prayers. Use only the Smiting Prayers skills, while the Doppelganger wastes its energy on maintained enchantments it cannot benefit from.
- The Doppelganger will only use the spell Healing Breeze to counter health degeneration not health loss. Bring this as the only skill and wand him to death.
- Monk/Mesmer - Get four enchantments, two smiting skills and Backfire. Use Backfire as soon as battle starts. While doppelganger will start lose life thanks to backfire help him with the smiting skills. You can kill him in six seconds. Put backfire last on the skill bar.
- A 55 Monk build is very effective in Normal Mode, but not in Hard Mode.
- Hard Mode - Put 12 attribute points into smiting. Only bring Retribution, Holy Wrath and Shield of Judgment. Precast Retribution and Holy Wrath before entering. As soon as you enter cast Shield of Judgment. The doppelganger will attack you on long range killing himself before Shield of Judgment runs out.
- Hard Mode - Use the above method, but add Holy Strike, you can manage to get one solid hit off when he drops the second time, after that there won't be enough energy, but it helps close the gap and prevent double kills. Also, Blessed Aura helps keep Shield of Judgment up longer, just make sure you let your energy fill before going in.
- Hard Mode - Use the above skills (Shield of Judgment, Retribution, and Holy Wrath). However, also bring Blessed Aura and Dismiss Condition (put as many points into Protection Prayers as you can). Maintain Blessed Aura and use Dismiss Condition to heal yourself. This way, you can easily outlast the Doppelganger.
[edit] Necromancer
- Bring Spiteful Spirit, Insidious Parasite and Necrosis. Max out Curses. Cast both hexes and then spam Necrosis.
- Bring Insidious Parasite, max out Curses.
- Hard Mode - Bring Insidious Parasite and Protective Spirit. Cast both skills and don't attack. Spiteful Spirit alone with Reckless Haste works very well.
[edit] Mesmer
- Bring Chaos Storm, Clumsiness, Drain Enchantment, Empathy, Illusion of Haste, Illusion of Weakness and Shatter Enchantment. Don't attack or use enchantments, use Clumsiness and Empathy, use Shatter Enchantment or Drain Enchantment whenever the Doppelganger becomes enchanted, use Chaos Storm when the Doppelganger becomes crippled after losing Illusion of Haste.
- Bring Empathy, Spirit Shackles, Sympathetic Visage and Wastrel's Worry, don't attack, use Spirit Shackles, Sympathetic Visage and Empathy immediately, spam Wastrel's Worry.
- A simpler but equally effective variant of the above is to simply bring Backfire and Wastrel's Worry. Cast Backfire on the Doppelganger at the start of the battle. Attack the Doppelganger normally, refraining from usage of any skills. The Doppelganger will spam Wastrel's Worry, and kill itself quite quickly.
- For Mesmers who have taken Elementalist as their secondary profession, take Fire Attunement, Air Attunement, Water Attunement, Earth Attunement, two other enchantment spells of your choice, Shatter Enchantment and Backfire. Place Shatter Enchantment in slot 7, and Backfire in slot 8. When the battle starts, the Doppelganger will prioritize spells from left to right, allowing you to cast Backfire while it is still casting enchantments on itself. The Doppelganger will fall quite quickly under the damage caused by Backfire, and Shatter Enchantment will also allow you to deal some extra damage. After casting Shatter Enchantment, the Doppelganger may try to cast Backfire on you, so it is often best to wait until the Doppelganger is starting to run low on health before casting Shatter Enchantment.
- An extremely simple strategy is to take just Empathy and Distortion with you. Keep empathy up on the Doppelganger and keep distortion up on yourself, and of course, don't attack. You win.
- Hard Mode - equip Empathy and Distortion and the Asuran skills Mental Block, Radiation Field and Pain Inverter. Maintain Empathy and Distortion and use the Asuran skills without attacking for a rapid victory.
[edit] Elementalist
- Bring Meteor Shower, Fire Storm, Lava Font, Searing Heat, Fire Attunement and three non-DoT Fire Magic skills such as Flare. Use Fire Attunement before triggering the cinematic, then spam the non-ADoT skills. When the Doppelganger finishes casting Meteor Shower, run out of its range then cast Meteor Shower, Fire Storm and Searing Heat, then run up and cast Lava Font and go back to spamming the non-DoT skills.
- Another option is to bring Glyph of Essence, Fire Attunement, Meteor Shower, and Searing Flames. Cast Fire Attunement before the cinematic. The Doppelganger will use Glyph of Essence to cast Meteor Shower, or if you're really lucky, Fire Attunement, thus depleting all of its Energy. Move out of the way of Meteor Shower if it's cast and start spamming Searing Flames. With zero energy, there's very little it can do to you and it should go down quickly.
- Yet another option is to only bring Flare and cast it as quickly as possible until victory. You may need to have a staff that provides extra health and a few runes to boost your health enough for this to work however.
- Yet another option is to simply bring Conjure Flame, Conjure Frost, or Conjure Lightning depending on your weapon and Glyph of Elemental Power. Cast glyph and then the conjure before the cinematic. Just simply attack, his weapon will not be boosted and you deal more damage then using flare would do. He will be brought down in about 30 sec.
- For Elementalists/Mesmers, bring Empathy and Blinding Flash. Leave every other skill slot empty. Hex the Doppelganger with Empathy and keep it blinded with Blinding Flash. It will kill itself while doing virtually no damage to you.
- Yet another way is to bring slow casting, worthless, energy expensive, etc spells, for example Air Attunement when you have no other air spell, some monk spells are very effective for this occasion as well if you are E/Mo. Non-damaging spells in the Curses/Blood Magic skills can be extremely effective- often you can get the Doppelganger to cast half a dozen useless curses like Rend Enchantments, Strip Enchantment, Plague Touch, or Mark of Pain before he even starts attacking. Bring only one damaging spell, like Flare and maybe even Aura of Restoration to keep you healthy. Start attacking with your damaging spell. Before Doppelganger finishes all spells and start attacking you, its almost dead.
- Hard Mode - Switch to E/Mo and bring Meteor Shower, Fire Storm, Lava Font, Searing Flames, Flare, Glyph of Essence, and Judge's Intervention. Use Fire Attunement before triggering the cinematic, Quickly cast Meteor Shower (note, he may cast different spells, but its the same process), run to him, and cast lava font, cast Judge's Intervention and then Fire Storm on him. Then just spam Searing Flames and Flare, back to back, He should die fairly easy.
- Hard Mode - Or you can use straight E and run Meteor Shower, Fire Storm, Lava Font, Searing Flames, Flare, Glyph of Sacrifice, Aura of Restoration, and Fire Attunement. You'll get the leg up by pre-casting the two enchantments and the Glyph. As soon as the battle starts, get the shower off using the pre-cast glyph. Rush in and cast the lava font and the fire storm, and then spam flare and searing flames (just as in the previous suggestion). The Doppelganger may run around to avoid the AoE, but that's fine (good, even) - just keep following with flare/searing flames.
- Bring only Blinding Flash. When you begin, use Blinding Flash and activate it every time Blindness wears off the Doppelganger. Wand or staff him to death. Any melee or bow will make the Doppelganger use Blinding Flash on you.
- Hard Mode - E/Me Bring only Mist Form and Empathy. The second the fight starts cast empathy on your Doppleganger then mist form on yourself. maintain empathy on him. The Doppleganger will melee attack you and kill itself. Even when your mist form runs out he will have mist form on himself not allowing him to give damage. You will get the bonus every time and if pulled off right won't take any damage.
[edit] Assassin
- Bring Unsuspecting Strike, Wild Strike, Horns of the Ox, Falling Spider, Critical Strike and Desperate Strike. Activate the skills in order. If you have 30+ energy, you can replace Critical Strike with Twisting Fangs. Using Critical Eye in advance also helps with energy.
- An alternate build to the one above for a A/W is this skill line: Frenzy, Critical Eye, Way of Perfection, Golden Lotus Strike, Fox Fangs,Death Blossom, Flourish(Elite). Run in, don't use frenzy but cast everything in order, once Flourish has been used start again at WoP, he goes down faster than any other way.
- Bring Unsuspecting Strike, Wild Strike, Repeating Strike, Twisting Fangs. Before the Cinematic, use Critical Agility then go in. Activate the first two skills and then hit him with repeating strike twice, then use Twisting Fangs and you should kill it.
- Hard Mode - Bring Shadow Form but do not use it. Wait for the doppelganger to use Shadow Form, then either wait out the duration or use Expunge Enchantments. Your opponent will be reduced to low health as a result. However, this method is based on luck as your opponent won't always cast Shadow Form, even if it's the only skill on his bar.
- Hard Mode - Bring any dagger combo that starts with Shock and includes Horns of the Ox. Moebius Strike and Critical Agility are helpful but not required. With fast fingers and luck you can interrupt the Doppelganger's Shock with your own, and then kill it.
[edit] Ritualist
- Bring Anguished Was Lingwah, Dissonance, Shadowsong, Painful Bond, Brutal Weapon, Earthbind, Shelter and Union. Cast Anguished Was Linwah before the cinematic. After the cinematic, drop the ashes, cast Dissonance, Shadowsong, Painful Bond and Brutal Weapon, then start attacking the Doppelganger. Dissonance should prevent the Doppelganger from summoning spirits, and Earthbind, Shelter and Union should waste the Doppelganger's time.
- Hard Mode - Bring only Vengeful Weapon and Vengeful Was Khanhei (or Weapon of Remedy). Move within attack range of the Doppelganger and spam Vengeful Weapon on yourself without attacking. The Doppelganger will kill itself attacking you. This method easily works for a secondary Ritualist as well.
[edit] Paragon
- Bring nothing but Chants (excluding Defensive Anthem). Don't use any skills, just attack the Doppelganger
- Bring Disrupting Throw, Cruel Spear, Harrier's Toss, Slayer's Spear, and Anthem of Flame. Can beat the Doppelganger in about 5-10 seconds, by running up to him
- Hard Mode Change your secondary profession to Dervish and equip Ebon Dust Aura with an Ebon Spear and a lot spear attacks. Barbed Spear has a low adrenaline cost and is great at maintaining blind on the Doppleganger.
[edit] Dervish
- Bring spammable Scythe Attacks. You should be able to use them more quickly than the Doppelganger.
- Bring no skills and just attack. You deal more damage than his scythe most of the time.
- Another option would be to use Vow of Strength, Aura of Holy Might, and Heart of Fury. With Runes of Major Mysticism (11points) and Earth Prayers (12 points) and a hood of Scythe Mastery (13 points), you can beat him in a matter of seconds. Dwayna's Grace would be perfect for this combination.
- Hard Mode - Equip Vow of Silence, various PBAoE enchantments, and Mystic Sandstorm. When the match begins, the Doppelganger will immediately cast Vow of Silence, disabling its own damage-dealing skills but leaving it vulnerable to yours. Thus all you have to do is run up to it and blast it with PBAoE until it drops.
- Hard Mode - Change 2nd profession to Mesmer, boost Earth Prayers and Domination Magic both to 12. Equip Mirage Cloak and Empathy. Maintain Mirage Cloak and Empathy until the Doppelganger drops (while standing away from the Doppelganger, see video [1]). Easy as pie, especially with a +20% enchantment set.
[edit] Any Profession
- Either Mode - Ursan Blessing - Only equip this skill on your bar. He cannot use it but you can.
- Either Mode - Signet of Midnight and Empathy (Mesmer primary or secondary class) - keep both spells on him and do not attack him, but stay in melee range so he uses his axe. He will kill himself very quickly.
