Binding ritual

Binding rituals are skills unique to the ritualist profession. Semantically, the Ritualist summons a spirit from the Underworld to do his/her bidding. Technically, they are skills with a long activation time that produce a spirit where the caster is standing. Unlike Nature Rituals, Binding Rituals either affect allies or foes, but not both.
The spirits summoned by a Binding Ritual can take on one of two looks:
- If the spirit attacks foes, such as spirit of Pain, its hands will be shackled to its side and it will hurl projectile at its foes with its hands.
- If the spirit does not attack foes, such as the spirits of Soothing and Restoration, then the spirit's hands will be crossed before its chest and shackled to its shoulders.

- Because binding rituals are not spells, fast casting does not reduce their casting time.
- Expertise will affect the cost of binding rituals.
- Since Binding Rituals are not spells, skills or conditions that affect spells won't work against it, e.g. daze, Backfire and many of the mesmer's interruption skills.
