how do you put the link to your guilds page in here??

You need to put a category tag to your guild page. View the source code of some of the guild pages in this category to see how it's done. -- Gem (gem / talk) 21:37, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

the best way to put your guild here is to hit F10 in guild wars and scroll down. Just click your guild and edit the page!

Protection[edit]

Can we get some form of protection on this page? The last good edit was this one in April, in response to vandalism. The last good one before that was in July 2007. There really shouldn't be any content to add directly to this page; at least, none that an admin can't provide. --Chaiyo Kaldor חיו 21:45, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Find guild by acronym?[edit]

Is there any way to make it easier to search for a guild by acronym? For example, a guild might call itself, Guild of New England, but use an abbreviation of, [Ayup] (a well known new englander version of uh-huh). Since none of the letters match the guild name, there's no way to find out if the guild does or does not have an official name.

Even something as simple as, :category:guild acronyms would be helpful. It might only include guilds that have chosen to add their acronyms, but that's better than what we have currently. (In any case, not every guild has created their official page here.)

Thanks! Tennessee Ernie Ford 20:28, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Truth be told, I don't see any way we could or can do that. If we tried to categorize them, we'd probably wind up with disambig's by the hundreds for guilds, and that would just disorganize the guild namespace. I'm not sure if there would be a way to update the search box to search for tags, though that would be the only way I would know. --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 20:32, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick reply.
I agree that it would be confusing (and technically annoying) to enable tag search from the search field. Sorry for expressing myself poorly.
What I meant was: isn't there a way to create a page by using the tag names from the guild info box?
For example, the Category:Guilds points to all guilds, even though you can't search for them through the main search window (unless you specify search within the Guild Namespace).
Tennessee Ernie Ford 20:40, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
It's technically, from the MediaWiki side, not possible to categorize into a category and displaying something else than the page title there. You can add a sortkey which uses the guild tag, but in the category the link to that page would still be the complete page title.
There is a possible approach to at least show all guilds by guild tag using DPL - but DPL is limited to 500 results only, meaning only 500 pages can be accessed and displayed by guild tag.
Creating pages for each guild tag, as Wandering Traverler said, would lead into huge disambiguation pages, as guild tags are not unique. And it would also require a lot maintenance to keep those pages up2date, and given how much work there already is with just keeping the guild pages, it would not be possible.
So just with wiki-side possibilities, it is not possible to maintain a list with guild tags; at least not dynamically. However it would be possible to create a static list with guild tag and the link to the guild page. I can give it a try to generate such a list. If it doesn't involve too much bandwidth usage, I can update this list for example every month if there is interest. poke | talk 20:53, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Hmmn. I guess I thought guild tags had to be unique. Given the number of guilds (and the number of new ones popping up frequently), I'm not sure it's worth the extra effort (esp. since there are, no doubt, other wiki-things worth spending time on). I appreciate the offer. Thanks for the offer. Tennessee Ernie Ford 21:07, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
My browser crashed a few times, but here it is: Guild Wars Wiki:List of guilds by tag poke | talk 22:50, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Awesome - thanks! Tennessee Ernie Ford 01:53, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
My browser screamed when it saw that list. And beside the point, if I'm seeing the wiki code right it looks like these were added manually. What happens when more come along? I don't think these will be pretty and categorize themselves.... --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 01:56, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
At the bottom there is the following note: "This list is a snapshot containing all guilds with a valid guild tag as of 22:57, 25 February 2009 (UTC).". That means that when new guilds are added or older guilds are removed the list won't recognize that. It's a static list that needs to be updated to include recent changes; that's why I said that I could update it for example once a month. poke | talk 13:28, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
Eh, I'm somewhat hesitant about this, but it seems to be fair enough. I'll help in this process if need be. --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 16:55, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
No, not really, it is an automated progress that gets the list, but thanks for your offer :) poke | talk 17:18, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
Aww, darn xD. Well, if its an automated process, I feel a bit more comortable about this then; for some reason I read the above post as updating the guilds manually. >< --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 17:38, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
I took the liberty of pointing the main article to the page. Theoretically, that would allow us to measure if there's any interest.
BTW: poke: Given the size of the page, do you think the note should be placed at the top instead of the bottom? (And, once again, my thanks.) Tennessee Ernie Ford 03:02, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, maybe; I'll put the note with the next update to the top. poke | talk 12:21, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Sacred Hollow[edit]

It would be nice to see the Sacred Hollow Guild [AlGv] on the page if at all possibble. Since I don't know how to insert a link into the name, the official Guild website is http://www.sacredhollow.webs.com Anyways, thanks ^^ --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Elementgold (talk).

If you want a guild to appear in the category, you need to create a guild page. See HELP:GUILD for more information on how to do that. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 16:24, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Is there a way?[edit]

Is there a way to see if the guild someone is searching for is actually made in the game, or is this just showing the guilds who have taken the time to make a guild wiki page? And if that is the case, is there any known way to see which guild names are already in use in game, but that don't have a wiki page? 42 - talk 20:16, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

The wiki isn't that well integrated into the game, so you can't compare wiki pages (or lack of) to game guilds (or lack of). -- pling User Pling sig.png 20:18, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
I kind of thought it would be too easy if it was. 42 - talk 20:39, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
This page lists all the guilds that have been added to the wiki. Since it's a single page, it makes it somewhat easier to find a guild if you aren't completely sure of the name or only know the [TAG]. At the moment, it includes historical guilds and is only refreshed about 1x/month.   — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:50, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Already know of the guild tag page Ernie, but ty for posting it. The down side, that I was wondering about, and said and had cleared up already, is finding a guild by guild name. Looking for a guild named Blue Funky Widgets, for example, would be easy to find if they used a tag [BFW]. But if they used a tag [XYZ], then a list alphabetically by tag would do no good if you were looking for the guild by name. You would still be able to find it, possibly, but if the guild in question didn't have a wiki page, the search would be that much more difficult. Especially, if you were trying to find if a guild name had already been used in game or not, and had no idea if there was and what the guild tag would be. 42 - talk 21:31, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
If you know the guild name, just look for Guild:Guild name. If you know parts of the guild name, use CTRL+F on the list by tag. poke | talk 21:40, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
