Skill type. A chant gives a one-time benefit to either an ally or all of the members of the party within earshot range. Chants belong to the Paragon's line of skills. A chant is similar to a shout in that it is also earshot range, but shouts activate instantly.
Each chant has a trigger conditions. Most chants only take effect when triggered, and end after they are triggered once. A few chants can be triggered multiple times before they end, and a few chants have an effect which ends when the chant is triggered.
