[edit] Acquisition
[edit] Notes
- The energy penalty can be partially bypassed by using an alternate equipment set that lowers your maximum energy just before using the skill and then switching back to normal or energy-increasing equipment.
- Switching to an axe with the "Brawn over Brains" inscription before the attack will reduce your energy by 5, providing you 5 energy upon switching equipment sets after the attack.
- Switching to a poor (+3) focus item with the "Ignorance is Bliss" inscription before the attack will reduce your energy by 2, providing you 2 energy upon switching equipment sets after the attack.
- Switching to an axe with the "I have the power!" inscription after the attack will increase your energy by 5.
- Switching to a normal focus item with prerequisites you meet (instead of a shield) after the attack can increase your energy by as much as 12. If you need even more, the focus item can be inscribed with "Live for Today", increasing your energy by an additional 15 (at the cost of 1 pip of energy degen).
- A trick currently exists that allows you to expedite the effects of the aforementioned equipment switches. It consists of using the cancel action button (Escape by default) right after the use of Decapitate to avoid the downtime between weapon swapping and immediately switching to your second weapon set and continuing to attack. Although this sequence may require some skill at the beginning, it is extremely effective and allows you to attack with negligible downtimes.
- This skill is oftentimes followed by Critical Chop to provide a quick finisher, as Deep Wound cannot kill a foe until that foe has taken damage while suffering from it.
- Even with the benefit of the auto-critical ignored, this skill has the highest damage increase of any axe attack.
