Feedback:User/Guild Wars 3 perhaps/Clarifying WvWvW Interface

From Guild Wars Wiki

Having watched several BWE #3 videos, I like the changes that have been made to the interface:

  • The tri-color bar displaying the relative ownership of the map as divided between the three worlds.
  • Displaying a world's current potential points.
  • A count-down displaying the remaining time until these points will be added to the world's War Score.
  • The amount of supply the player is carrying next to an icon of a barrel.

However, in several of the videos there has been some confusion as to the significance of this display. For example, some players thought the timer was counting down the time remaining until they could respawn following a defeat. Other players would attempt to pick up supply from a resource camp despite already carrying 10 supply.

My suggestion - on first entering the WvWvW arena - is to add hints similar to the current system which will inform the player what these numbers and symbols mean. This will help avoid a wasted trip to a resouce camp to pick up supply when a player is already carrying the maximum allowed or allow players to get back into the game more quickly following defeat rather than waiting for the count-down timer to reach zero.

Of course, maybe such hints already exist but simply weren't recorded in the videos I watched. In which case, it's the ol', "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink.", scenario. If so, then this suggestion can be ignored/deleted.

Thank you for reading.

Update[edit]

The tri-color bar at the top of the screen in WvWvW displays the relative ownership of the map by the three competing worlds. Currently, the bar reads - from left to right - red, blue, and green. This is static, regardless of which server/world a player belongs to; all players see the same order of red, blue, and green. I suggest, instead, that the center color of the bar displays the player's server/world for all players. A red player, for example, will see a bar colored blue, red, green when looking at it from left to right. A blue player, by contrast, would see green, blue, and red. Lastly, a green player will observe a blue, green, red bar.

This keeps the player's server/world color ever-centered for quicker reference/focus. This is even more critical when you consider - in the current implementation - the color bars on the right and left sides fade out at their ends. This makes it a bit difficult to accurately gauge just how wide that portion of the color bar - and, by extension, that server's/world's percentage of ownership of the map - really is. The central color, by contrast, is rendered in its entirety with no fade out.

Lastly, for players new to WvWvW and perhaps a bit overwhelmed, keeping their server's/world's color ever-centered will help them remember which server/world they belong to. Something along the lines of:

"Wow! That was quite a battle!!! Now...what am I doing again?"
*An order is received to attack a keep*
"What world do I belong to? I know I'm not blue, but I can't remember if I was green or red."
*Looks at center of color bar and sees green*
"Ohhh, that's right...I'm on green team. Off to attack that red keep!"
