WiK overarc quests ..[edit]

moved from Feedback talk:Developer updates

Why on EARTH is this quest locked with "this challenge cannot be abandoned. It must be completed" ??

Does Live Team seriously believe this piece of rather gratuitous content-recycling is so story-critical as to require enforcing the main storyline to the point of not giving people the -option- to back out ?

The mind boggles, and I'm fearing the worst when the next piece of GW:B content goes live ... Yume 13:39, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Worse, even with the guide quest you cannot abandon, you SXTILL have to suffer the conversational blather in Dakutu camp. Map in, map out, map in map out, get stupid golem, map in , map out ... *groan* I want to get rid of this damn quest, because I really -do not- want to do this anymore. And I can't. Because this challenge cannot be abandoned, it must be completed. Thank you SO MUCH a.net. Yume 14:03, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
(Edited out some unnecessary language. Sorry.) Yume 14:13, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
The War is active once you meet the requirements, whether or not you take the quest. The quest is simply a guide so you aren't forced to use the flowchart to find out where you need to go next. Before the update, the only way to be rid of the mantle spawns was to finish the War. That remains the same, quest or no.--User Pyron Sy sig.png Pyron Sy 19:22, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
I understand the point of the quest, to hold people's hands and occasionally wipe their noses -- but what I fail to understand is why the blazes it cannot be abandoned once taken. There is NO reward for the quest - and outside of placing a few markers easily researched on wiki, no point for it. I see potential for it to be useful (as a substitute to the map in/map out horror to witness all the uninteresting blathering) - but in its current incarnation I utterly fail to understand its status (denying the ability to abandon it) Yume 20:31, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
Most likely because some people would believe abandoning the quest would cancel the WiK content. Since the War can't be cancelled, neither can the quest. It's more a matter of catering to the masses, and assuming enough people would think the quest activates and cancels the war.--User Pyron Sy sig.png Pyron Sy 00:45, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
"Worse, even with the guide quest you cannot abandon, you SXTILL have to suffer the conversational blather in Dakutu camp." You only have to sit through 2 dialogues in the camp, 2 in the Hall of Monuments, 1 in Ice Cliff Chasms, and 1 in Lion's Arch Keep (not including directly-quest-related dialogues such as those seen in the Inquisitor wanted quests). It literally cut out 2 dialogues in the camp, 3 or 4 HoM dialogues, and doesn't force you to see any of the optional dialogue. As to "...this piece of rather gratuitous content-recycling is so story-critical..." I don't see the recycling bit, as it isn't repeatable and those who have done the WiK cannot take the quest, but as to the story-critical piece... it rather is, as you have to do the War in Kryta to get the new Hearts of the North content (which is one of the main reasons why the quest was added in the first place).
You're doing nothing but complaining, but if you intend to finish the War in Kryta content anyways, then this quest helps in every way. -- Konig/talk 04:15, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
I complain because it's poor design. I know why the quest was implemented (to basically help the lazy "run me to sanctum cay kthxplz" players get their bearings) but I fail to understand the significance of implementing it like this -- as I stated, I can see the potential for it to be useful (and BTW, if you think the dialogs are fun, see if you still like the horrid mapping in/out after the 5th character or so - believe me, it gets tedious fast) to be a proper guide and aid to players, but as implemented now it doesn't make sense - specifically the "cannot abandon" flag it got. Yume 08:15, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
What purpose would abandoning the quest serve? It has no affect whatsoever on the content added with the War. But I guarantee a few people would think abandoning the quest would remove the White Mantle spawns. These people would then rant and complain about how GW is bugged because the spawns didn't go away when they dropped the quest. By adding the cannot abandon flag to this quest, they make it clear that the only way to end the War content is to finish the War. WiK is pretty much the next primary quest after completing Prophecies, and just like Against the Destroyers, it cannot be abandoned. The new quest is simply made that way to make that fact perfectly clear to everyone.--User Pyron Sy sig.png Pyron Sy 14:01, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
I fail to see how it's poor design. The War in Kryta was complicated, this makes it simplistic (and less tedious, as you put it, as you don't have to zone in and out of the same zone five or so times for dialogues - you literally have to just see 4 dialogues with the three overarc quests). Tell me, do you think the Eye of the North main storyline quests are "poor design," since they serve a similar purpose and cannot be abandoned. There is no purpose to abandoning this quest unless you have no interest in finishing the War in Kryta (in which case you then had no reason to grab the quest in the first place). At least, unlike the EN quests I mentioned, these three are not automatic upon entering certain areas you need to enter to do anything in the game. -- Konig/talk 22:17, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
