someone mind explaining the summoners and the spear as offhand jokes? 96.15.140.46 09:12, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

I have a feeling the summoner is a reference to another MMO. I don't remember which one but I remember seeing people online bitching about a game where only a certain number of people could play as each/a specific class at once and people spent more time fighting to get the one they wanted/raging about not getting it than actually playing. 86.150.26.197 09:44, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

The Summoner was one of the professions in the canceled Guild wars:Utopia campain 188.222.77.162 17:36, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
The only one I didn't get was the Onslaught ref... was there some kind backwards-buff Snafu between PvE & PvP when that was originally changed? Or are they just trolling P-rage nubz again? --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 21:13, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
A skill usually get buffed in PvE and nerfed in PvP because of power creep. They balanced it so it's underpowered in PvE and overpowered in PvP.--Relyk 05:23, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
I think this one was actually more in line with the fake updates from past years, which had a lot of changes that seemed believable at first glance (shortened recharge, changed energy costs etc.) but would have made skills massively over-powered in practice. Which then lead to amusing raging on the talk-page and in-game. 86.150.26.197 08:55, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

[edit]

I think that the massive banner indicating that this update is a prank is not in the spirit of April Fools Day - is it really necessary? Couldn't a note be added to "Guild Wiki Notes" at the bottom instead? --Combatter 09:27, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

It's probably an attempt to prevent the people raging on this page about how this update is terrible and will ruin the game. Happens every year. Will probably happen this year too. Also banners like that are normally at the top of the page. 86.150.26.197 09:40, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
But laughing at people raging on this page is part of the fun of April 1st! --Combatter 09:45, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Han Shot First[edit]

"The intermediate cinematic for "Ice Caves of Sorrow" has been altered so that Saidra now strikes the Mursaat first. (This was always our true vision for the scene, and can now be realized with current technology.) " - This is the best one, good job A-Net, loving it. Future User Future Signature.png 09:27, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

don't get it. please explain. If I had time I'd replay ice caves of sorrow to check the cinematic94.208.171.67 14:36, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Creed?[edit]

One Last Breath, Arms Wide Open and Six Feet From the Edge are all Creed songs, but other than that I don't really get it. Any ideas? 86.150.26.197 09:48, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Assassins get skills named from Creed songs... 81.229.165.241 10:20, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Does anyone remember when these fake updates were remotely funny? Koda User Koda Kumi Horns1.GIF 16:05, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
I dunno about you, but I laughed heavily at the Thunderclap one. The issue, I think, is that all of these jokes are references and thus if you don't know the reference you won't get the joke (the Assassin's Creed one is very complex for a joke). Konig/talk 16:18, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Yu-Gi-Oh![edit]

I see quite a few yugioh references, GJ Anet :D 41.133.134.194 09:57, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Phoenix Wright[edit]

"Added new shouts: "Objection!" "Take that!" and "Hold it!"" is a reference to Phoenix Wright's shouts in Ace Attorney. Bahamut Heroes 12:21, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

That's fun, but this other part of the warrior "update" is totally made of win: "Watch Yourself!": renamed to "Check Yourself!"; added the following functionality: "All allies lose the Wrecked condition." -- Tekn0mancer User Tekn0mancer-Awaken the Blood 19px sig.jpg (Talk) 14:17, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Paragons got ignored again[edit]

They really don't like paragons that much do they? Random Weird Guy 11:56, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Best part of the entire update. Also the only true and honest part, bar the new quests of course :p. Poor Paragons... 82.11.226.30 18:17, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Yeah but it could go both ways... Hell it could even mean they got a stealth buff since today is effectively "opposite day". ...that or there really is a buff to them finally coming up in the next few weeks. HAHAHA OHWAIT what am I saying??? --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 21:04, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
I interpreted this to mean, "Yeah, we already know Paragons are a joke." (Best chuckle in there IMHO.) -- ZeeWabbit 00:59, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Monk: "Any doors or gates barring the enemy from reaching you are opened."[edit]

Yeah, Salma's Hospitality made me laugh the hardest. Opening the gates in BLA never made sense. --User Tometheus-signature.png Tometheus (talk) 18:03, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Friendship is Magic[edit]

"All magic damage is now based on rank in the Friendship attribute." Just when I was fearing a lack of My Little Pony references... Thank you Anet ! 213.166.194.139 12:05, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

or is it a Care Bears refrence to friend bear? Rudhraighe 17:06, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
There's quite a few Bronies at Anet unfortunately. So OP's probably right. --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 21:05, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
I lost so much respect for ArenaNet with this reference. OutlawJoe 02:22, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
same... 90.206.126.77 17:22, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, because people liking something is totally lame. They should all be like us and hate everything. 78.92.2.192 04:04, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
oh god... the carebear police are coming... quick, let's pretend tolerating stupid things for the sake of toleration is cool. Secondly, poeple liking things isn't totally lame. People being completely in your face about it IS though (srsly, I don geev a shiet) Thirdly - all be like 'us' and hate everything? Who's "us"? The majority of people who don't care about bronies? Hate everything? Since when is 'my little pony' EVERYTHING? (i'm assuming you're a bronie, doesn't matter if you're not though). Fourthly... this has masively derailed. 90.206.126.59 19:40, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
I am fairly certain that ip 78 was being sarcastic due to how you and Outlaw Joe "lost so much respect for ArenaNet with this reference" because apparently referencing a very popular show dictates the loss of respect for them. Konig/talk 20:50, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm not sure what this is actually a reference to, but consider that in D&D Sorcerers use Charisma as a casting stat, and given its influence, similar things are true in a lot of derived games. So in a way, they already use "Friendship" to cast with. 2.24.247.51 09:01, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
I am also fairly certain 78 was being sarcastic due to what we said, too. If they weren't, and that statement was sincere, then that would not have been a carebear statement. And yes, referencing certain shows does cause me to lose respect for some staff of arenanet, I really don't see how that is a difficult concept. Like, I'm not even trying to be over-the-top patronising, man. Some GW staff are allegedly bronies. Fine, whatever. Referencing it in the game? No. I don't even care if it's a joke, I'll happily be the April Fool's Scrooge. 90.206.126.59 20:26, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
You do know that, technically, it's not in the game. I'm even hesitant to call the things on this faux update "references" because they are jokes on something rather than an easter egg towards it. And I don't see how 78's post was a "carebear" post - sarcastic or not (in fact, the sarcasm kind of knocks any carebear-ness out of the park for me). Konig/talk 20:34, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Thunderclap[edit]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-sOaUAgbB4 Obvious reference I suppose, but I thought I'd mention it.C0Zm1c 14:05, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Hero Keiran[edit]

"Hero Keiran Thackeray's profession has been changed to Ritualist. " It should be noted that after the change, Keiran gets to keeps his 80 armor rating for Paragons even though he is now a rit. So, i put Shaman insignias and SoS on Keiran and he now has 95 armor rating. However he only has 2 pips of energy regeneration. Also, because spirits are now mobile, this makes for an awsome combination.

Reference to people upset that the new hero from Hearts of the North was a useless Paragon instead of the second Ritualist everyone wanted.--Relyk 05:23, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Do We Not Add Notes For References?[edit]

Well? Skykingcst 23:18, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Don't generally add trivia on update pages. Also I Don't See Why You Have To Capitalise The Start Of Every Word, It Makes It Harder To Read. Random Weird Guy 08:46, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Summoners[edit]

The bit about only seven summoners allowed made me think of Fate/Stay Night. We know John Stumme is a weeaboo so it's not implausible. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 01:49, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Not in every route! User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 18:43, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

There was some discussion about the seven summoners at the top in the untitlesd section. I'd like to also suggest an additional tongue in cheek reference to the classic Seven Samurai. 76.164.65.219 05:05, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Mhenloading Screens[edit]

The notes currently say that the Annihilator 2 quest was the only implemented change, but it's confirmed that all loading screens are, in fact, now Mhenloading screens. We should update the article to reflect this. --Sahjiarah 16:11, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
