Feedback portal suggestion[edit]

Suggestion... For the feedback portal! Anyways, anyone that watches the feedback space knows about the large amounts of vandalism it gets, most of it unintentionally through ignorance. Well, we currently have the "add a suggestion" bit in a user's feedback, does anyone think that if this bit was added to the categories as well it might help stem the improperly submitted ideas? Wouldn't be too hard to add to the pages, really.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 16:10, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

The system is set up so that users maintain responsibility for their suggestions, They have to follow the progression, and have to read instructions. If they can't be bothered to do that, they certainly can't be expected to maintain responsibility for those suggestions. I don't believe deviating from the established process would do anything other than make it worse. None of what we see here is "vandalism" it's ignorance, and it's solved through education. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 21:47, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Hmm... true. I didn't think about that bit of their responsibility. Most of the suggestions that have been placed onto the category talk pages or the main pages themselves have been minimal at best, and no where near complete suggestions (or at least understandable). Guess it would be right to think that such suggestions would probably not be maintained after their posting, then. Meh, it was worth mentioning I guess, cause now anyone else with the idea would see this now.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 04:15, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

anet staff...[edit]

could we make a template that we can put on top of all the anet staff pages saying something to the effect of "WAIT: is this the appropriate place to post this? is your comment a suggestion to improve the game? if yes please post all feedback suggestions in the feed back user space found here. if someone else sees it as a suggestion it will be moved to your own feed back space." ?-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 09:48, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

They've been on the older dev pages for years. No one ever read them. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 10:21, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
I support Zesbeer's idea. Many people read them and will change their behavior accordingly. They also serve as a warning (preventing the kind of hey, you didn't warn that Troll before blocking it digression that has happened in the past). I hope that it will also enable sysops to act more quickly to move inappropriate posts (although recently, the team has been better about that).  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:55, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
How would that fix anything? Look at how well the feedback talk pages' warning message is so expertly followed.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 22:09, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
Sysops warn on individual user talk pages on a case by case basis. The rules of the feedback space already covers the consequences for abusing developer staff pages. I agree with Felix that posting stuff at the top of the staff talk pages means nothing because the majority don't read them anyway. Reasonable but uninformed people will move their suggestions when it's explained to them where/how to do it properly, unreasonable people won't care and will do whatever they want, and end up banned by the sysops. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 22:18, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
A friendly reminder does no harm, will cause some people to refrain from posting inappropriately, and will prevent some of the griping that goes on after a suspension. You can easily find Stumme's feedback page without seeing the rules of the feedback space so this would make it more likely that reasonable people are also informed people. I wouldn't expect it to solve all problems since, of course, some people won't care no matter what.
It's hard to measure the effectiveness of preventative measures because, by their very definition, if they work well, we won't see the effects. Let's not assume that because unreasonable people didn't pay attention to the warnings on the older dev pages that no one paid attention.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:47, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Obsolete suggestions[edit]

What is the appropriate way to deal with suggestions that are now irrelevant, that have been added to the game, or that the creator has changed their mind about? For example, Standardize hero listing or Add Summoned Creatures (From Stones) to Party List. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 00:58, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

{{delete}} If they are irrelevant or the creator no longer cares about them. Perhaps we could also create a template for {{outdated suggestion}} that would filter them from the main Feedback list.
However, I don't think that it should be up to the community to make that decision (after all, many people would say that certain ideas are obsolete when they were originally suggested). Post a note on the discussion page (or the creator's talk page) and ask them to take appropriate action. It doesn't do any significant harm to have an outdated suggestion; it's just inconvenient.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:21, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Alright, thanks. I'm going to update the FAQ accordingly. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 02:06, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
There is a parameter resolved in the infobox template. Use that, but don't delete otherwise valid suggestions. poke | talk 18:10, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Bookeeping[edit]

Anybody who has dedicated some hours to scroll down and read every each feedback will know that there are many repeated similiar ideas... othere are just ubber-lame made by noobs. I think its time to clean up a bit. I would like to suggest a classification so that all ideas of a same kind are linked to each other. I also would like to see the feedbacks with more replies be "bumped above" the list, so that the non-sense "ideas" are left "behind" or at the bottom of the ocean. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 07:33, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

I agree the Feedback system is clunky and not as easy to navigate as I would like. However, I think there's little we can do at this point for the GW1 system without looking at the entire system.
  1. Who decides what's uber lame? I think the entire point of the Feedback system is that it's up to ANet, not the wiki community. For all we know, the dumbest ideas have sparked a creative response by the live team. Anyhow, I'm against any sort of system of bumping anything other than malformed ideas or those posted by unregistered users — and we already do that.
  2. Ideas with more replies aren't necessarily better or more worth of attention. People are more likely to reply to e.g. Konig's ideas b/c he's more visible on the wiki and more people know him. It's true a lot of his ideas are things I want ANet to look at, but there are people who just log on to the wiki to publish their suggestions — since they have no following, they are unlikely to get bumped. I don't want their ideas to get short shrift just because they come from relatively unknown contributors.
  3. If you want to link related ideas, you can do so on talk pages. I try to do that with my suggestions: whenever I run across a similar idea, I either defer to it (if it's better), point to it (if it's similar/overlapping), or include it in discussions.
  4. I think the categorization system could probably use an overhaul, but it was largely designed with ANet's input about how they wanted stuff sorted. And, when asked, they seem to think it's still doing what they want it to do.
  5. As far as linking to each other, they already do that: each article is classified into the relevant subcategory, linked at the bottom of the page.
I think it would be worthwhile to ask the ANet GW2 team how they want to handle the Feedback system once GW2 goes live (or better: while it's in BETA). I suspect they have given that some thought already, e.g. moving from the wiki to the official forums. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:01, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
well with the official forums incoming. I don't know how worth it would be to start this now.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 09:07, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

"Resolved" suggestions[edit]

Would there be objections if I were to start marking already addressed problems, e.g. the difficulty of VQing a zone with Winds of Change Scavengers in - which was fixed by the addition of the memories of purity quest, as resolved.
