the undeciphered Asuran banner[edit]

From the Feedback talk:Matthew Medina (section), but since noone answers I will post it her and someone can remove it there. I dont know how to or can I just delete it on her talkpage.

Does the azura banner mean this?

. gata el ya gya.. balas ya

. the cat and gya.. bullets and

Got it almost^^(spanish translation), I guess it means the charr with guns in gw2. Couldnt translate the first words from each line. Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 18:37, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

It would be more like "Cat the now gya.. bullets now". But I doubt it being Spanish at all. It doesn't make any sense. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 22:00, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

When you enter the preceding text into the bing translator and set it on Auto-check the languages that is used the outcome is as follow: "Cat the already gya.. bullets already"
Never trust those translators, they make weird things. Specially from English to Spanish or Japanese, since they are languages with a lot of homonyms and homophones. For example, "Balas" may mean "You bleat", "Bullets", (cannon)"balls" or even "bale" as Malice pointed out. It's all in the context. And context is what we lack here. If I reread these lines: balas can also be salaz which means salacious (or wanton lascivious, lewd, lubricous, salacious, lickerish.) Maybe it tells us something about how azura's make love or they are mutated cats. XD Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 10:17, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Lyssa was the Greek goddess of rabies and mad rage, but also a zombie?[edit]

Anyway might be farfetched idea but I came to this conclusion thru vaccins.

I can't find documentation on what the inspiration for zombies was, but this is what I think was the inspiration for it. Earlier today I checked wich vaccines cats need, and I saw rabies between all the other stuff. Searched the net about the condition, learned how it spreads (bites, scratches, licks), what it is (a viral neuroinvasive disease that causes inflammation of the brain).

What do zombies do? they bite, wich causes there victim to turn into a zombie once death has occured (they come back to life once they have died in most movies, books, etc...), the typical zombie likes eating brains. Can you see the similarities?

Now why do I think Lyssa is an evil zombie? Because I read stuff about rabies?

Well here is the Etymology of the word rabies (taken from wikipedia):

"The term is derived from the Latin rabies, "madness". This, in turn, may be related to the Sanskrit rabhas, "to do violence". The Greeks derived the word "lyssa", from "lud" or "violent"; this root is used in the name of the genus of rabies lyssavirus."

Anyway if I would go further with my story it would end with a question like this: If she is an evil zombie goddess goeing on a rampage, would carrying the skill Frenzy fool Lyssa, making her ignore you? is frenzy a savior or will she spot the difference?

You don't have to answer anything, but getting an answer to the last question would be nice. Anyway this is just a "for fun thing" not something serious :D. talk Qaletaqa Hania 22:55, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Hilarious. Rypofalem 23:05, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
  1. Mutated viral strains of rabies and mad cow disease are the two most common explanations for the inevitable zombie apocalypse. None of that matters though, considering that it's a game and the devs can give whatever fucking explanation they want for zombies (Orr and all that).
  2. Lyssa was the goddess of madness, not necessarily rabies. Whoever made that addition to Wikipedia (lolwikipedia) obviously gave the ancient Greeks too much credit on their medical prowess. "Diseases" weren't fully understood in antiquity and people or animals who had contracted rabies would most likely have been considered possessed. A rudimentary understanding of how rabies was transfered was understood even prior to parchment writings, but that does not mean that they understood what it was, how to treat it, or how it affected living beings (and it definitely wasn't called "rabies" considering that the name itself has a Latin route). Lyssa is just the explanation for psychoses that they had no other way to explain.

Actually, the original zombie legend came from the West Indies. Modern interpretations of the legend seem to basically boil down to drugged slaves. The John Romero-style infection-through-being-bitten zombies are a fairly recent variety of zombies that don't really bear a close resemblance to the term's mythological origins. Draxynnic 09:29, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Yeah thats what some say, but I didn't wanna know where the original legend came from and I highly doubt that it came from the West Indies, there are older cultures wich have legends and myths about "the living dead", now if they are the inspiration for modern day zombies I don't know and I highly doubt there is someone that trully is sure. This was just a bit of fun I had with the thoughts I had about everything I read when reading about rabies. talk Qaletaqa Hania 20:14, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
The more important question here is: Are mummies just zombies with cloth wrappings? 74.50.104.2 23:53, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

I left this here because a part of me enjoys having a (semi) serious question that unites two of my great loves--Guild Wars and zombies--into one topic.
I also left it here for some magical, alternate future reality where I would have the time to sit down and give this the proper attention it deserves. Looks like that time will never come, as there is always one or another pressing issue that is more serious, and will be given more priority than fun things like this. So in short, I guess I have to make time for fun things on occasion. :-) (And also: Please feel free to post awesome stuff like this. It's quite entertaining/amusing/appreciated.)
As for zombies being an inspiration for Lyssa... I am more inclined to believe that it's the concept of madness that had more of an influence than zombies. However, is not the state of being a zombie akin to a sort of madness? If you subscribe to the notion that 28 Days Later features these new-fangled "fast zombies" then one could definitely say that zombification = madness. Regarding whether carrying the skill, Lyssavirus Frenzy would cause a zombie-fied Lyssa to ignore you: I don't think it would. First of all, she is a god. Secondly, although in this scenario she is a zombie, I think we all can agree that zombies are able to recognize human-shaped things that are like them (other zombies/not food) and those that are not like them (uninfected/food). As Lyssa is a god, I do not think that Shaun of the Dead style shennanigans would fool Lyssa, much less a skill. That is my opinion, though other zombie enthusiasts may feel differently. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 02:11, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Interesting reply, Regina. Also, I think the Lore keepers on this wiki have delved into these questions at length as well. Konig wrote a short discourse on the nature of the incarnations found in GW (e.g., Rit/Ranger Spirits, souls wandering the Desolation/Underworld, Liches, Undead, etc.) wherein he referred to Lyssa's school of magic as 'Denial', which I was inclined to agree with. Since - in the context of Guild Wars - this seems to relate to your question, he contended that it took many schools of magic (so not exclusively Lyssa's) to create a Lich. Otherwise, a creature is just a "machine" of organic material powered by a piece of a Necromancer's energy - a minion. Hope that helped. 141.165.170.111 05:52, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Trivia question[edit]

Due to a user repeatedly adding the same trivia to the Ray of Judgment skill page regardless of discussion on the talk page; where people have provided what appear to be clear examples of why the trivia is wrong; it doesn't appear that he is willing to stop unless blocked nor is willing to discuss on the talk page why he/she thinks the trivia is correct. Therefore to clear this up and possibly provide an official statement on the validity or lack thereof; depending on your response; of this piece of trivia, I was wondering if you could check whether or not the person depicted in the skill icon is Radditz from Dragonball Z; as the user is claiming; or is based on someone/something else. --Kakarot Talk 11:51, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

It's a silhouette. The figure bears no similarity except that he has shoulderpads that vaguely resemble what Google search shows up. Just ban the punk and revert it. –Jette 11:56, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
I agree but since he has added it a total of ten times so far and blocking him merely delays his eventual re-addition of the trivia regardless of anything we may say, an official response might do more to convince one way or another. Add to that that I would rather see this cleared up once and for all than to continuously block/revert him since getting perma'ed over trivia is rather trivial wouldn't you say? Also I tried to keep my above question as neutral as I could regardless of the fact that I think it is wrong too --Kakarot Talk 12:10, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Not really. This person has made exactly one contribution, which is that trivia edit. He's completely disregarded a large number of people telling him he's wrong and made few comments other than "yeah I'm right." If you'd rather wait for Regina's response you can, but it'd not like we'd be losing a valuable contributor or anything. –Jette 12:30, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
If you ask me, that shadow looks more like a Mass Effect's Turian than any character from Mr. Toriyama's works. It's just someone with armor. Nothing special, and that depiction of someone with a beam blasting through his chest is rather common. On top of that, Raditz didn't die like that. He was hold by Gokuu so he won't escape. I've seem some trivias in the 'gray zone', but at least they added something like "Some people think that" or "It is believed". That's not this case. Whoever edits that should heed the warnings, or get banned. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 15:56, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

2 Pages I'd like you to make sure the design team takes a look at again.[edit]

Not sure how often the design team actually takes a look at or considers the ideas in the feedback space. Last update proves the TK is basically useless (letting things like seeping wound go live and not fixing fast casting). So i'd like to ask you to pass these two pages on to the design team and make it clear that they REALLY should be looked at. Feedback:User/TahiriVeila/Lord Damage Monitor & Feedback:User/Wicca/What Should have been done to HB. Cheers.--TahiriVeila 20:19, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

the reason they turned off hero battles was because almost nobody played it, not because it was unbalanced. nobody really liked it because heroes are stupid, so even if the game was balanced you would have to run an unfair ai-exploiting gimmick. it was all the hair-pulling frustration of pve with all the bad attitudes and scrubbery of pvp, and not much of the good sides of either. –Jette 20:43, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Speaking as an active member of the HB community, there were tons of people who still played. And even if no one played it, that's no reason to get rid of the arena. Few people play codex now than played HB or TA, even at their lowest population levels. Yet that hasn't gotten canned yet. If you look at the reasoning given in regina's journals (and i think on linsey's page too), HB and TA were removed because the design team couldn't figure out how to balance either of them. And by "balance" they meant dumb down until the areas were easy to play for any beginner. To those who were actually talented and enjoyed complicated, tactical play TA & HB were incredibly enjoyable, they just needa few tweaks to fix balance issues. --TahiriVeila 23:31, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
@Jette: If you played HB as much as we did, you would know that you are completely wrong. . .its all on my suggestion.Wicca 01:11, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
To be fair, balancing HB would've required skills balanced only for HB. There's a reason that they removed heroes from HA and GvG as well - mixing AI and real players hardly mixes. ··· Danny Pew Pew
I don't know whether or not the hb community was active. I agree with danny though, it would have needed to be balanced in a vacuum to be anything close to fair, and from chats I've had with some of the developers, that's just not a practical option from a programming point of view. apparently the game is coded so badly that adding skills or features actually degrades performance on the client- as well as server-side, and redesigning a lot of skills for hb would exacerbate that problem. I don't even know how that's supposed to work; my guess is that whoever implemented the original gw was thinking absolutely nothing of modularity, which might have a lot to do with why gw2 is being made. in any event, spending a truckload of resources to satisfy an extreme minority of players isn't feasible for anyone right now. if anet had a magic wand that could restore hb without a hitch, I'd have no problem with what you're asking, but as it is it's just not going to happen. –Jette 07:28, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Firstly, isn't balancing skills only for one format (GvG) what they mainly do anyway? And most of the skills that were a problem in HB aren't even used in other formats. Anet has added content and balanced skills in GW and are continuing to do that. Based on what you've said, every time they do this, it degrades performance on the client and the server. So how will this be any different from every other thing anet has added/redesigned?Wicca 10:32, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Actually, ANet seems to balance equally for HA and GvG. If they brought back HB, they would need to (unnecessarily) balance a bunch of skills only for HB, both degrading performance and costing a lot a resources for a format that, quite frankly, was not nearly as popular as anything else. There's no reason to bring HB back other than to farm keys, and that's just dumb.

Bringing back HB or TA means that ANet has to admit that they failed with Codex; they aren't going to do that, no company in their right mind would, give up. --58.7.226.181 10:40, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

The skill update also sucks: Why nerf mantra of recall? It's energy gain was already too weak to be used EVER. What did just happen to linsey? Did she get the Izzy flu that the latest update sucks?? Also blinding flash? That was perfectly balanced before. Energy Drain? Again with a negligible gain. And the hexes: Fucking hexes which will break pvp again just like they did in the december update of 2008. And on a different topic: When skill(pve) gets changed to the pvp version, you can list the changes to the pve one, and just say "merged to the recently changed pve version" and list them under the pvp&pve changes. Much much better. Or say "Both pvp and pve versions merged into this version: <skill detail goes here>.--Boro 10px‎ 07:03, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

quick question[edit]

will there be War Supplies added to the zaishen coin collectors as an alternate way to get them? :) --Robot 10:52, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

What do war supplies have to do with the zaishen?--User Pyron Sy sig.png Pyron Sy 13:14, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, they are just supplies for battle. They can actually be used by players as a buff item. Technically, any army could drop them, even undead or charr. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 14:08, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
Or they can be exchange for a royal gift that turns into a real consumable that's actually worth popping. --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 21:44, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

~I completely argree with ILR, I'm finding it rather 'insulting' after the time invested assembling a decent team to complete 'Wanted' missions (to help others/myself keep up with W.I.K.) and submit my (hard earned) 15! War-Supplies reward for >1!< Royal-Gift and get >1!< EFFING LAME Scroll of Adventurer's Insight...that hurts guys...could you guys at least CONSIDER(ation) that? Perhaps, 1 Linen? 1 Spirit Wood plank? 10 Glittering Dust? 1 miserable point towards Party-Animal for opening a 'Royal-Gift'?...Is that so bad?

War in Kryta greens moddable and dyeable?[edit]

Hi Regina,

It appears that at least some of the new WiK greens accept dye and mods, which is unprecedented in unique items. Can you tell us if this is intentional, or a bug? Yanna Cor & family 10:54, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

i think it might be intentional i think they are trying to give these greens a little extra value but it could also be a bug.- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 12:00, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
and now we need a clarification on the bug "fix"... If the ones that start dropping after this latest patch aren't moddable at all, then the ones that dropped before this and still are, will be a source of MAJOR controversy while hitting astronomical trading values. --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 11:11, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Can we pleaaaase have a statement from you on this issue? The bugfix didn't work, the greenies are still out there and the market is going crazy! Is Anet going to do something soon? Rollback? Reset the items? Please keep us informed! Thanks!
Based on past performance, I'd recommend not spending any money on those. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 12:35, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Market? There is no such thing for items without traders! Who cares about that? The important thing is PvP, you can't have those items in there. about the Sliver Armor update...[edit]

Is it really a "bug fix," or some intentional update to discourage solo farming even more by nerfing a lot of popular builds that uses Sliver Armor? Because I use an elementalist build that uses Sliver Armor to farm raptors and destroyers. Now I can't do that anymore since Sliver Armor doesn't target one foe anymore (it targets random foes per such succession) and now farming Raptors is now impossible.

I'm getting suspicious here because if Sliver Armor really was a bug, that would have been fixed like around....ohhh, let's say...FOUR years ago. People have been using sliver armor as means to dealing damage to mobs for farming ever since Prophecies came out and now it is ruined due to the so-called "bug fix."

From the Shadow Form nerf on Feburary and the mesmer buff that also brought a "fix" to Sliver Armor and all other updates relating to the UW and FoW, I'm beginning to feel that you guys are trying to discourage solo farming of all forms--Dark Paladin X 05:21, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Of course they're discouraging solo farming. However, they're not exactly encouraging team play, or making it more attractive to do team play. They're removing the high-end 'farming' aspect of the game (for whatever misguided reasons) and seemingly ignoring the fact that most people are doing it (farming) for a reason. They'll work it out soon enough, right when this War in Kryta stuff starts boring the pants off people, more than it currently is. You've got to understand, Arenanet goes from one "good idea" to another, without actually looking at how it's affecting the playerbase. Damaging solo farming... BRILLANT! Good idea, have a pay raise... 203.118.170.143 05:27, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Sliver Armor was released with Factions, so I am going to have to call bullshit on the claim "People have been using sliver armor as means to dealing damage to mobs for farming ever since Prophecies came out". Misery 06:07, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, and they're notorious about fixing bugs four years later, or not at all. -- Tha Reckoning 06:17, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Whether it was Prophecies or Factions is irrelevant to the fact that this "bug fix" is a solo farming nerf in disguise. Team play is viable and always has been, just solo farming has been far more profitable. People are punished for bringing a group and rewarded for playing on their own. That's poor MMO design. 58.106.158.34 06:19, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

My /Smug is this <==========================================================> big rite bout now. Been trying to convince them to fix this stuff for atleast 2 years. Better late than never I suppose. Not sure what all the whining is about though, Shadow and Terra is still overpowered. Just takes a little more elbow grease to make sliver work everytime now. Some people who run AoE degens actually thought it was meant to be a buff, so Anet can claim whatever they want here. No one can really prove them wrong. --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 11:05, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
I love a pug as much as the next guy... but Anet seems to have two sides to their coin... 1 side is they discourage solo farming... which seems all fine and good but it is not the same as encouraging teamplay... then theres the other side of "lets put stuff in the game you have to grind or farm for"... That's the part I don't understand... while there are non elite counterparts to many expensive items the fact that some titles and items are crazy expensive is beyond me when they also take the stance that they discourage farming?!? MrPaladin talk 11:11, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
It was a bug, the description never said it targets a single enemy, just "one nearby foe every time you are attack". They probable waited for so long because Anet developers themselves where using the build. And now that they can try stuff in whatever they have done of GW2, they no longer need GW1, XDDD. As for the grind, most people that have completed titles like treasure hunter or sweet tooth farmed for them. It is impossible to complete them in under a year, playing around 6 hours per week, and doing too other things without farming. It would take ages. And farming is what make those prices and times 'normal', the fastest possible way becomes 'the way'. So, if they remove the fastest one, they must reconsider some numbers to go accordingly with the next fastest one that still exists. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 14:18, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
One might assume you're trying to be funny under the guise that all Anet employees who are part of the complete design process are inscrutable well-balanced folks instead of hardcore RPG nerds and wouldn't leave little loopholes in just to avoid their own grind. ...Good luck with that one. However for everyone who did exploit the numerous loopholes in this "curiously strong" meta and is whining now: I'll direct you to the final word on it, IE: that TL;DR blurb Regina has to spell check every 6 months now (instead of the brutal once-per-month schedule it used to be on). Right there in plain print: LOOPHOLES. Loopholes aren't a way to simply deal with grind, they're a secret passage around the grind. And before the grind can ever be lessened, those passages must be collapsed. And their phrasing of: "we were able to start testing changes to end-game areas" ...suggests that more changes might follow. Like for instance changing Vengeful Aatxe's b/c anytime you have to resort to bullshit like that, you're basically saying "I'm a horrible level designer and I gave up on balanceway a long time ago". --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 22:21, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Unhappy With Forced D/C for Updates[edit]

moved from Feedback talk:Gaile Gray/Support Issues
Unhappy With Forced D/C for new updates may 25th 12am-1am est.....

All updates to the game aught to be optional(they used to be) and the player should have the right to continue doing what they are doing if they are otherwise engaged at the time the game prompts them that one is available, and logout later to do them is they so choose. ESPECIALLY if they have just spent over 9 hours setting up and deathlvling in pre. I never ever get d/c from my end ever when I deathlvl I can always last up to 20 hours before I choose to kill the mobs and close the game to reset the counter. however today when you folks released that update I was halfway through a 20 hour deathlvling session and my mobs were still half 17 and half 13. I always go full 20 hours as they are usually most if not all lvl 20 by then but this time when that update was released it prompted me 3 times, which of course I ignored as usual and then unlike normally the game server D/C then when I choose the reconnect option I was reconnected and back in and the prompt had stopped so I assumed they had forced my update but luckily I was still in northlands and not shunted to ascalon. I figured the issue was settled and went back to my death lvling after clicking my skills and hitting the mobs a few times for good measure. and not 5 min later they D/C me again. your end not mine as my internet was working fine and I was able to browse normally so not blaming it on my expensive 4Gig ram pc or my 100MB highspeed connection.

This time I was shunted to ascalon and logged completely out and back to char selection screen and I WAS RIPPED. bad enough charr pathing has been bugged for some time now and groups tend to splinter and have stragglers who when engaged pull the whole group but never path with the group always pathing haphazardly but to make hours of work setting up to grind for a title some of us have been working on for a very long time near impossible because you are changing the option to upgrade to new game builds and making them forced is another story. We spend hours, days, weeks, months and in some cases with the more casual gamers Years to grind a title that is hard enough without the drama and yall keep going out of your way to make it impossible. Kindly take into account your gamers and never d/c a player for an update for if they wanted to logout to update and interrupt what they were working on they likely would have. some of us such as myself spend ALOT of money, time and effort to you guys to stay ahead and enjoy the game and every aspect thereof, don't ruin it for us please as those 10-20 hours is our life and our time ty. LilithChan 05:07, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

As far as I am aware dc is never forced for updates, you are not allowed to enter pvp formats if you are not fully updated but otherwise you are free to continue what you were doing. In this case I am afraid it was probably just a connection error, not necessarly at your end. Tidas 08:26, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

War In Kryta farmer/peacekeeper dialogue[edit]

I witnessed some dialogue between Farmer Milton and a Peacekeeping squad on the way through one of the areas in Kryta - and I noticed a distinct taste of McCarthyism, more similarly that of the "Crucible", a play about the Salem witch trials. During the Salem witch trials, a farmer accuses his neighbor, Giles Corey, of consulting with Satan (The Shining Blade), so that he may obtain Corey's land. I believe that in accordance the town either burns Giles Corey to death or places rocks on his chest until he dies. Obviously, there is a distinct similarity here and I ask you, "Is this dialogue a reference to McCarthyism or The Crucible? -Atomisk 21:05, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

the concept of "The enemy of my enemy is my friend", I want you think through if the Charr gets involved in War in Kryta[edit]

This is something that you should think over. The Charr are enemies to both White Mantle and Ebon Vanguard/Ascalon, yet the Ebon Vanguard allied with the Shining Blade (a rebel group who seeks to overthrow the White Mantle). Evident in the fifth dialouge in the War in Kryta dialogues and the Wanted: Inquisitor Lashona quest where Lashona was sent to the Ascalon Settlement to kill everyone there would probably provoke a war with Ascalon (or the White Mantle already declared war on Ascalon judging by the fact that the Ebon Vanguard had allied with the Shining Blade and your character killed two important people of the White Mantle is assumed to be Ascalonian even if your character is Canthan or Elonian). Personally, I think the Charr (particularly the Flame Legion) would ally with the White Mantle, since both the Charr and the White Mantle don't follow the six gods of Tyria. Who knows, maybe the Flame Legion would worship the Mursaat in order to keep in power (like they did with the Titans and Destroyers)?--Dark Paladin X 05:56, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Aren't the mursaat and the titans the exact opposites ? That basically means that they can never be alies because their gods are arch rivals. Besides the charr shamans would never join in. Yeen 20:18, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Why would the Charr ally up with the White Mantle? After all, they were the ones that stopped them from invading Kryta. InfestedHydralisk 02:48, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
The concept of "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" is a somewhat flawed and over-rated concept. Does not work most of the time and when it works, it may not be very good nor very long (see US, UK and USSR during and after WW2).
As Pyre himself would tell you, fighting the Destroyers was just an opportunity for him to take a blow at the shamans. Though he may have gained a bit more respect for them, that does not make him friend with Gwen or the other humans especially the Ascalonian (same from the Ascalonians' point of view). At this point of time, Charrs are probably too busy with internal conflicts and war in Ascalon to think of Kryta. If offered a chance to participate on either side, they may actually take the opportunity to invade Kryta again and erradicate humans there just for the fun of it.Jaxom 10:43, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, charr don't work the same as humans do. Not only are the charr currently blocked from Kryta, but generally in GW, the enemy of my enemy is also my enemy (and of course, I'm sure the White Mantle would be just happy to forgive the charr for invading Kryta and their buddy). -~=Ϛρѧякγ User Sparky, the Tainted guided sig.png (τѧιк) 15:43, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Inappropriate Name[edit]

I want to make a character named Lulu Yellow Sun, but when i try creating a character the game says "Contains words or partial words that are not permitted in Guild Wars. (Code = 031)"

Changing the name a few times to figure out which part of the name is inappropriate, i found out that the word string "lul" is considered inappropriate. Thus i cannot make a character named Lulu. I have the American English version of Guild Wars bought online from NCSoft website and i do not see the word "lul" as offensive, nor do i know what it means(pardon my ignorance if it really is offensive). The definition of "lul" in english dictionary says it is abreviation for "Little Uncomfortable Laugh".

However I came across other people who have the word "Lulu" in their names. For example, the guild hall henchman "Lulu Xan" was named after the character Lulu Xan, which clearly has Lulu in her name somehow. So why can someone else make a character with Lulu in it, but i cannot? I think this is not quite fair or it is a bug that needs to be fixed.

If "lul" is indeed an offensive term in any other language, it should not affect me who only speaks English, or if you really wish to consider it an offensive term(in the event that my name might offend a foreign player in their own language), every character who currently have the word "lul" in their name should be forced to change.

My real name is Lucy, everyone else(including my mom) calls me Lulu. Many people also call Kurzicks "Kuku" and Luxons "Lulu" in game. Again, what is offensive about this? If it is, then it should also follow common sense, if the word REALLY is innapropriate and offensive, to filter those words too in Chat channels too?--Wtf Srsly Rofl QQ 15:11, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

I think it's slang/Dutch for Penis, according to a quick Google search. Can't have Jewel either, cause of the word Jew, which isn't offensive obviously, but was probably used as part of offensive type names targeting Jews in the past. Lul was probably blocked cause of similar usage perhaps? Tylenol Jones 14:34, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
1. If a word is offensive in Dutch, why is it banned in the American version of the game that i purchased? Jew and Jewel on the other hand, are both English words. Even so, I think it is racist and discriminating on the part of ANet to say that Jew is innapropriate. Most people take pride in their race, ethnicity and beliefs. I know someone who takes pride in being asian made a character named "Asian Boy New York", would you say that is offensive? If however somebody would make a name such as "Jews Suck", then it would be clearly inappropriate.
2. The fact is, as stated above, that there are people with "Lulu" in their names, and it is very clear to me that ANet does NOT consider Lulu to be offensive in any sort of way given that they themselves agreed to make a henchman by the name of Lulu Xan. And there IS clearly a person with Lulu in their character name, namely Lulu Xan(the character). So it is not the same issue and the real issue here is Some people can make characters with "Lulu" in the name while others(me included) cannot. Hence I am asking WHY?--Wtf Srsly Rofl QQ 15:11, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
Aha I was right! LuLz ARE Banned!! ...I kept saying it but no one would listen D:< --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 20:48, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
Lul is a dutch word for penis. The english counterpart would be "dick" (which also is a name). Just confirming this, not taking sides or anything. But if you want my opinion, just call the character "Lili" or something and be done with it. You're putting way too much effort into something so insignificant. BlazeRick 20:50, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
A name that she will have to look at anytime she plays the character is hardly insignificant, and this is a genuine concern as to why others can have the name Lulu but not her. Stating why she isn't allowed to have that name without answering why others do doesn't help. Taros 21:10, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
It's obviously an oversight, or something that was added to the name filter recently. Maybe they didn't notice it. Maybe they don't care, or don't have time to give what's her face henchmen lady the name change routine. I don't see that it's a huge deal. -- Tha Reckoning 21:12, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
Simple enough, the other people made their names before Lul was added to the filter. ArenaNet doesn't really care about names, as our old buddy Dupek can attest to. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 21:15, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
And how suprised was I when I started my very first Factions character and stood in Tsumei Village asking for help with "lfg Quimang's Last Stand," only to see the filter blank out the name of that NPC!! lol. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 22:36, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
Well, actually, I beated the Dupek horse to death several times over a while ago, and Gaile was probably sick of hearing that name and mine along with it. His name is now spelled differently when the game interface is set to Polish, which is the language where "dupek" is offensive. I would have liked to see it changed in all supported languages (seeing how many Poles I see in American/English districts all the time), but oh well, they're probably actually getting a kick out of it every time they do SS/LB farms - I know I did the first time I saw that. :P User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 00:55, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

how come you guys don't depict children being killed in GW (or allow players to kill children)?[edit]

I was wondering, with all of the angst and war going on in War In Kryta as well as the past (with the Sunspears vs. Kournans as well the first scene in The Rise of the White Mantle where the first battle with the Charr had children in the village), how come the bad guys seem to ignore killing the children directly in front of them? Also, in the bounty where you have to kill Inquisitor Lovisa, there are Missing Children that makes even using h/h to fight her group to be near impossible because of the Adoration spell. I think it would justified if the players can kill these Missing Children considering 1. it would make the killing Lovisa MUCH easier and 2. the children now become 100% mindless drones to the White Mantle that makes the efforts reversing the brainwashing to be impossible.

Yes, I know that sounds barbaric, and I don't advocate this in real life. But, it's a video/computer game. Anything that happens in video/computer games are cool in video/computer games, but in real life it isn't. For example, like in the Grand Theft Auto games, the player can run around and kill random civilians and law enforcement, yet this kind of action is not cool in real life. Same with here, killing young children in Guild Wars would be cool because it's a game and nothing is real; but in real life, it isn't (considering the events at Darfur and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict).--Dark Paladin X 14:32, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

A game that does automatically receives an M rating. It's the same reason there's no Children in Elder Scrolls IV, it was originally intended to be T.--Unending fear User Unendingfear Sig2.png 14:51, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) I think the number of times you've had to point out the difference between video game world and real world sorta proves why it would be a bad idea. Tylenol Jones 14:53, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
I think it would be a bit weird though, as your character is a hero (in the most generic sense), for you to be able to kill children. Considering it looks better if the missing children are saved from their brain washing, as opposed to being cut down to stop them healing. Considering the dialogue on the Missing Child page, it seems the brainwashing is reversible. --delta36 14:55, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Also, killing Lovisa is not hard at all. --talk Large 15:07, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
First of all, you can pull Lovisa's mob away from the children, and you can even pull them apart from each other, so it's not hard at all, even in HM. Second, you can brainwash them back just as easily as the first time. Third, you are forgetting the "Tortured Corsair" incident, this would be much, much worse. Fourth: WTF is wrong with you? User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 15:34, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Well, I was thinking that in the video game world, you can be as cruel as possible to the NPCs (look at Fallout 3 and the infamous "No Russian" mission in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2). Look, I can easily distinguish reality from fiction. The reason they included the Corsair Prisoner in the first place when Nightfall was released was to add realism to the game. The characters in Guild Wars are simply pixelated characters, no one in real life is getting kill in the game. Not to mention, it is an opportunity for players to be as cruel as possible to your enemy (that was before all of the political stuff from players brought up). In real life, torturing someone is not cool.--Dark Paladin X 16:08, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
You're still doing it though, bringing up the real world and the game world. If it really is just pixels to you, then why do you want those suffering at your hand, to resemble children so badly? Then following with saying it gives players a chance to be as cruel as possible.... Political correctness aside, you have to see that isn't going to look good in any light, right? It's one thing to include certain elements when it's needed, as part of a story, a proper reason for it, but putting something like this, for these reasons, in there for the sake of it, just seems wrong.. and a little bit creepy. This topic has nowhere to go but southwards. Tylenol Jones 16:50, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Guys, guys, guys. This whole discussion is unnecessary. As I said above, depictions of violence towards minors automatically earns a game an M rating. That's why you can't hurt them.--Unending fear User Unendingfear Sig2.png 17:55, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Unending Fear is right, it has nothing to do with whether or not people will think it's real kids getting killed or think it's ok to kill kids, it has to do with the rating. Paladin keeps talking about "the viedo game world" as if all games are created equal. There is tetris and mario bros. on one end, and GoW and GTA on the other. GW is trying to be somewhere in the middle. Remember, kids play this game, little kids, and parents too. That's why there is no nudity or blood or beheadings or big bad monsters slaughtering innocent little kids in cold blood. It's just not appropriate. (Satanael | talk) 05:34, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Side note to point out a correction to Paladin: The children do not become mindless drones. Once you kill Lovisa, their dialogue changes to anti-Lovisa and anti-WM. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 17:03, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
I would not recommend a gamecompany to feature killing children. I believe it not the be in the company's interest to alienate gamers & their parents. Silverleaf Special:Contributions/SilverleafDon't assume, Know! 20:50, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

In The Witcher, you can attack neutral and aggresive NPCs, but you can never attack allies. ALL children are allies by default. It's something many if not most games do, either to maintain a rating, or because killing children is just sick. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 01:22, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
The only game that you "can" kill children that I know of is Fallout 1&2, but not in 3. Fallout3 has a M rating but killing kids is impossible in that game. You can in fallout 3 using a community made mod to allow child killings. Overall it's just disturbing to think that someone would make such a mod, and enjoy it. Even in fallout 1&2 the 2D pixels looked unrealistic but the SFX was still disturbing. --LaniaUser Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg 6:21, 31 Jul 2010 (UTC)

Bonus weapons[edit]

Hey Regina. I have a question regarding the bonus weapons that usually come with prerelease versions of games (such as the Hourglass Staff). Is it possible that they could become available to buy seperately in the ingame store, much like the bonus weapons from the Game of the Year were? I personally would be willing to pay, say, $5 for each of the sets of bonus weapons (aka the 2 from factions would be a 5k bonus pack, the 2 from nightfall would be a 5k bonus pack, etc). Because they are not tradable ingame, I would think that this could be a good source of revenue that is completely optional (like the BMP), and that would give people the opportunity to get these items that they missed the chance to get before. Right now, if people want, say, the EotN weapons, the only way to get them is by buying a pre-release version of the game on Ebay, which is against the ToS (right?). I'd love it if this could become possible. Thank you! Ailina 16:31, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

I second this notion, there are a few items I missed out on and would like to be made available, and I would be willing to pay for them. I understand the need to make them exclusive for a while for the ones that were quick enough to get their orders in, but its been a long time and I think the "special exclusiveness" they implied isn't really that glamerous anymore. So how about throw an old dog a bone and let us get some nice looking stuff too? :D Nay the One and Only User Nay the One and Only SIG.jpg 00:06, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

I missed the Prophecies and Factions ones because I didn't had Internet connection until just before Factions release. Hey, If I knew about GW in 2005, I would have been playing since then. And everyone missed most of Prophecies ones, because each region had a different one. I would definitely pay for one or two packs to get them all. I'd like to praise the new Riverside Assassination content[edit]

When the War in Kryta finally came alive with the bounties, I was pretty disappointed. I'm not very fond of the grindastic bounty-format at all. The latest addition of the Riverside Assassination however is exactly the kind of content I do like, a little more effort for a tangiable reward, instead of many quick and let's say, not so rewarding, daily bounties.

Send my thanks to the Live Team and here's hoping this was not the last addition of this kind! :)

did you really just say "Krytan misisons - exporable instances" and then ask if they can be Vanq'd? ...only Factions ever had that dynamic, & with good reason: it was dumb and pointless just like Factions. --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 23:41, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
I like being able to explore them, actually. In any event, I doubt they can be vanquished in any mechanical sense, since the title already exists and there is no kill counter, but you can certainly run around killing stuff until you get tired. –Jette 01:53, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
You can kill all enemies, but there will be no vanquish bonus~when you finish. I would love to see all the other areas with no explorable version have one like that too. Including the PvP areas, so people can enter and get to know them before playing. And it won't harm to have some areas in Prophecies were you can capture skills without being inside a mission. Especially in the Ring of Fire islands.MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 13:28, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
ilr, what do you mean when you say that "only Factions ever had that dynamic"? Nightfall did, also. Nearly all of the missions took place in areas that are explorable when not in the mission, the same way it is with Factions. Kodonur Crossroads, for example took place in Dejarin Estate, which is a normal area that can be vanquished. So I'm confused as to what you meant when you said "only Factions had that dynamic". Please explain? Ailina 14:50, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
But it started with factions, as did "gated content" ...which is almost as pointless and unnecessary as Vanq'ing. It's like the design team got together one day and said "So what else can we do to remind all these Rats that they're still trapped in a flat 2D Maze instead of a big open world?" ...to which another one says "Let's make them Discord their way into every corner of the map in HM for their lousy pieces of stale cheese and let's keep doing it the next 3 chapters we release!"... Medal of Honor[edit]

Could you give some sort of confirmation these will actually have a use in future? Currently I'm saving up all my war supplies just in case the medals get a good use - otherwise I can spend them on the gifts instead. I do have some hope they'll have a use added seeing they're being rewarded for "end game" (sort of) quests, why would we receive ultimately pointless rewards. Still a confirmation would be great :) Also ETA if possible. Thanks Future User Future Signature.png 21:25, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

They drop fairly regularly out of the gifts. I've done all quests on one character only, and turned all supplies in for gifts, and gotten 7 medals so far.--User Pyron Sy sig.png Pyron Sy 21:39, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
I've been playing since the beginning and I've found that every once useless item eventually had a use. Constant error 007's[edit]

Hi Regina! I'm writing this to report a bug that's been happening to me, my alliance, and several other people since Thursday's update:

At random times during the game, I'll get a major lag spike and then it will say I disconnected. It will allow me to try to reconnect, and sometimes I can, but a lot of times it says I can't. But it's not an Internet issue because only Guild Wars stops working. And I'm not the only one experiencing it. So I thought I'd let you know so that hopefully you or someone at ANet can look into it. Thanks! Tender WolfUser Tender Wolf sig.png 17:47, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Hat Pack Purchase In In-Game Store[edit]

Some of us had problems during the times of the events for the hats and never knew about such things in the past but are willing to pay for what we missed. Most of us were newbies and didn't know much of the game. If we put hats from today-&-back in the in game store for purchase I'm sure most of the players would purchase them. Guild Wars would get some money and wed get what we want. I'm sure everyone would be willing to pay for the hats from the past. Lithril 15:35, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

It's been said repeatedly that there will not be a way to obtain older hats. I agree with this, even though I missed a couple of events myself and would love to have the hats I missed out on.--User Pyron Sy sig.png Pyron Sy 16:37, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

This idea sort of defeats the purpose of, "You had to be there." It'd be like having a friend send you a souvenir from a country you've never been to just so you can show it off. Sure, I'd like the hats I wasn't around to get, but that will never happen and I am at peace with this. It doesn't seem right to the people who were there. 63.80.53.130 21:25, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
The only argument against this is "I want to feel special for having something others don't." I think this is a good idea. –Jette 21:32, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
I disagree Jette, I don't think it's about feeling special for having something others don't, I think it's about having something you actually participated in as opposed to having something because you are willing to pay for it. That is a prime example of what is so wrong about so many of the games (including GW) these days. People don't actually want to participate in it, they just want to buy their way through to have the "good stuff". (Paying for runs, Powerleveling, etc.) I don't have all the hats because I didn't start playing the game at the beginning. I feel no ill will towards those that have the ones I missed. I have however made it a point to participate in all the events that have occurred since I started playing. For those events where ArenaNet has had technical difficulties, they have made every effort to make it possible for those who missed out because of them to have a chance to get them. The argument has been brought up before that many (if not all) of these events are held over holidays where people are likely to have real life plans that don't include playing a game, well, that is their choice. The fact that these finale events run over a 24 hr period should allow for most if not all to get them. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 23:33, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Other people paying for useless stuff so I can keep playing for free is a good thing in my book. If the game itself isn't worth playing in order to get "the good stuff" then that's a different problem. --67.240.88.57 17:28, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

most of u arent getting what im saying, if we just started playing the game its not our fault, half of the world doesnt even know about Guild wars because of not having commercials. if something came up or someone passed away we couldnbt be on during those times, and tbh back then they didnt elongate the periods the events went on so others could get the hats anyway, it was just recently started. hatpack is the same basic idea for the freakin costume packs we get, limited time...if ur not on during the specific time to buy from in game store(like costumes) u dont get the damn thing. most of us didnt even know about the hats back then because we were just getting in to the game. "oh look at me i have a mummy mask that makes me look pro." ur just upset because if this actually happens(hatpack) u wont look pro anymore. in which case this might actually give gw some extra money to plan more events with the money we pay. all of these arguments are pointless because i can bet that the ones thinking these are a bad idea in fact bought the costumes in the ingame store anyway. There's really no room for debate? Of course, MMOs should reward participation/longevity. Of course, MMOs should offer extras for those willing to buy into the brand. However, where the line is drawn could be changed, just as some titles were far more difficult to achieve in times past. Birthday presents reward longevity, so that's not likely to change. But are festival masks so sacred we can't compromise? Do we really want to say that someone who logs 100s/1000s of hours on the game shouldn't get a festival mask because they weren't able to logon for 4 days?
I'm mostly ambivalent about making them available for a fee, but I do think we should at least allow people to discuss the merits of the idea before consigning it to the "won't implement" pile.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:15, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
If you can't log on because a family member has passed away or whatnot, I would like to think that the person would have the Guild Wars festival hats LAST on their list of to-do. I don't see why a couple pretty pixels are getting people so huffy. You weren't there to get them. Get over it. I missed out on some of the "coolest" hats and I don't think anyone is "pro" for having them. You know what they had to do to get them? Either have a stack of something in their inventory.... or stand there. It's not pro, and I really don't think this is that big of a deal. Just deal with the pretty shinies you can't have. Life lesson, anyone? 63.80.53.130 23:13, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

I missed the first year of hats (the Horns of Grenth are way cool), but I too don't think they should be made purchasable, for the same reasons that were reiterated many times. I would hate for them to become yet another micro-transaction. ANet has said that old hats will never be available again (well, besides the recurring lion mask). Why should they go back on that now just because someone waved a few bills in their face and said "I want this, but that RMT over there won't sell it to me?" User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 00:45, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
When it comes to exclusivity, I only believe in 'exclusivity over time'. That is, things that are exclusive should only be exclusive for some time, and then made available for everyone. The amount of time would vary depending on what are we talking about. 'Forever' is too much time, and 2..10 years is enough time to enjoy a toy without other kids having it too. And NOT all hats are a reward for participation. In some instances, you can just buy the tokens, and then leave the character next to where you'll get the hat, and leave it AFK. In other cases where there was a lot of lag, you could get the hats just by talking to the hat maker. And in others you can just purchase the tokens for gold and use it in a collector that appears during the next week. If anyone wants to pay to get stuff that is some years old, they should be able to. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 13:30, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, if that's the case, why don't they make the collectors edition dances/auras available to everyone through the store? They're as exclusive as the hats (Some more so), and I know people would buy them. The idea of, "I'm willing to throw money at it so I should get it" is very silly. You can't get the hats from previous years (dragon hat excluded). I don't see why this is a difficult concept. If Anet thought it was appropriate (and profitable) to put those hats up in the store, don't you think they would have by now? I thank them for keeping hats exclusive, and before anyone goes there, it's not so I can lord the hat over someone who doesn't have it. That's just stupid. I want them to remain exclusive because they -are- exclusive. 63.80.53.130 03:25, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

I also include collector and preorder stuff in that. But for collector, the longest time should apply, 5..10 years. And to say the truth, I got the Factions collector 2 years after its released. There was a short offer in the ncsoft store for some extra Nightfall and Factions collectors, I already had the nightfall, but I got internet too late so I couldn't get the Factions or Prophecies CE, so I got the Factions one then. So 'I wasn't there', yet I got it, and I got it for less than 50% of its original price. If I was able to get the CE edition some years after it was released, why shouldn't everyone else get at least the keys~to unlock in-game stuff? And, the most important thing. Why should a guy that buys 100 boxes of the game to sell them later in e-Bay make profit from it? That should not happen. People should buy the game to play it, and profit from the game should go to the developers. If people knew that if they missed something they cold still be able to get it after some years, they will still try to get it (you never know what can happen in 5 or 10 years), but they will always have the 'disclosing' after that time, if it was completely impossible for them to get it in time. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 13:36, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
I still disagree but that isn't the point. Ever heard of wholesalers? Some people by games/food/clothes/etc in bulk through a wholesale warehouse company and re-sell. I don't see the problem. The developers get the money regardless (Where do you think the games came from? Hmm?). Spending more money does NOT mean the developers get more. The developers get the amount they asked for when the retailer/wholesaler/consumer asked for. Do you really think that the places you buy the games from are getting them for 50-100 bucks? naw. They're just selling them that to recoup their losses. :3 Either way, hat packs = no. Collector packs = definite no. People paid for exclusive rewards with the collectors edition. That doesn't mean, "Oh, we'll let you guys be the only one that wants it... until someone with an entitlement issue comes along and offers us 29.99 in the NCSoft store for them. Then you're screwed. ;3" 63.80.53.130 21:25, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
You are not screwed because someone gets something. When Portal was first released, it had a price. But not a long ago, they gave it out for free. Did those that got it first lose something compared to those that got it for free? No. Both got it, but those that paid got it first, and played with it first for a long time before any of those that got it for free. If two persons get something, no one loses anything. But if only one person can get something, the rest lose the opportunity to get it. A Win/win situation is always better than a win/lose. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 23:11, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
The point of it is that since the first festival, if you missed out, then you missed out. Limited time exclusive offer. This goes for both the hats and the collectors edition bonuses. Those lucky enough to pick up one of the few remaining CE keys either stumble on a rare find, or pay an enormous amount for the right to have something outside the exclusivity period. But the hats are the only thing to really give the player an "I was there when..." feeling. Birthday gifts can be bought, CE keys can be bought, but only the hats remain exclusive. Yes, I missed a few over the years, and I would love to finish off my collection, but I still support the decision to keep the hats out of the store.--User Pyron Sy sig.png Pyron Sy 23:20, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

For we are many. XD Of course such a thing may disappoint some, but disappointing greedy kids that want everything for themselves and show off to other kids to give them envy is not really a bad thing. Good kids don't mind sharing, or giving away their old toys when they are done with them. When most people left for GW2, it should not be important anymore who has what. That's why I think that full hero teams and 'end of exclusivity' could be done after GW2 is a couple of months older since its release. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 20:40, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Disconnections during Dragon Festival Finale Event[edit]

Not sure if you or someone from Arena.net is aware of this or if this was intended and added without players aware. During the finale event I seem to be disconnecting from Arena.net severs when left idle for more than two hours. I had left my account idle in Shing to "farm" the event gifts won during the finale. I had 2-3 friends experiencing the same things. I checked with various other players from the Asian servers as well as International and many other players are experiencing the same problems every 1-3 hours. It seems to only be affecting them (I haven't checked Europe's). After 3 disconnects I switched one account to the American realms and haven't had the problem arise again. Yet friends playing in the other realms (to escape mass lags from players in the American realms) are still experiencing this problem. Is this a possible bug or is this a new form of anti-farming (like the loot-scaling scripts and the addition of the recent farming nerfs). Any info about this would be greatly appreciated. Hope you and everyone else are having a great 4th of July. -- Magic User Magic Icon.jpg Talk 19:23, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

I have been connected to GW for 17 hrs now, without any disconnects. I doubt it's a problem with ArenaNet, more likely a problem with your ISP. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 23:35, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah.. totally Wyn. Friends across the US and other across the world. It must be my ISP. Totally. ; \ -- Magic User Magic Icon.jpg Talk 00:21, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Many ISPs have idling restrictions. I'm just saying that if this were a problem with ArenaNet, then everyone connected to GW would be having the problem. I mean, if it is happening to you and your friends scattered across the US, then why isn't it happening to everyone in the US? If it's an ArenaNet thing that is..... -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 00:43, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
I've had the same internet for years now. Never in the past have I had this problem. I get the same response from many other users. Why on earth would everyone's ISP spontaneously change? -- Magic User Magic Icon.jpg Talk 00:49, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry that you (and friends/guildies) got disconnected; I doubt heavily that ANet intended it.
I can see lots of ppls that have been AFK for hours. Yes, I've heard of (and seen) DCs, but it seems no different from any other festival period with wildly higher participation. I can't see how the powers that be would spend developer time or risk aggro (a) figuring out how to DC a subset of ppls safely or (b) prevent ppls from farming Lucky/Unlucky points at nine rings. Plus, the amount of possible AFK finale farming is pretty trivial (max 200 presents isn't game changing for anyone).
If there's an issue, ANet needs data to take to their server farm ppls, internet ppls, and internal IT. If you really want to know what's going on, encourage everyone you mentioned to submit support tickets (with times, locations, ISPs). Anecdotes won't be enough for them to track a problem and resolve it.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:52, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Well, you're still not explaining why so many of us are not having disconnect problems. I actually have had 3 accounts logged in since the start of the finale's, and not one of them has been disconnected. I just don't see that this is an ArenaNet issue. If ArenaNet were disconnecting people for idling for a period of time, I would think I would be a prime target. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 00:56, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
First off, @Wyn, my first respocne to you come off a tid.. er.. jaskass-ish. I'm sure you'd agree but it wasn't mant that way. Secondly, I have a general question to ask. I have 2 accounts logged in to the event. When I D/C from the servers only 1 PC would disconnect at a time. Sometimes close together but usually never at the same time. I've done this before at past events and never had a problem with it. Would my ISP really be a factor? If it was, wouldn't both connections die at the same time? -- Magic User Magic Icon.jpg Talk 01:08, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Pretty much can be said for Arenanet. Not only would it be rather ridiculous for them to pin point accounts to dc, if idling/farming lucky points were the criteria, then all three of my accounts should have been targeted. No internet connection is perfect, there are packet losses all over that are dependent on so many varying factors that there will probably never be a completely satisfactory answer for these types of issues. ArenaNet has said repeatedly through history that they do not have a policy of dc'ing accounts for idling. I don't see why they would be starting now. It just seems like with every major event, there is someone that is bringing this up, and the answer has always been the same. At some point players need to just take their word for it and I think after 5+ years, now would be as good a time as any. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 01:20, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
I have no problems with disconnection but connection. Since this evening, when changing district, the game can't manage to connect and seems to be blocked in an endless loop, and I have to close the game to log in again. Kokiri99 02:23, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
"At some point players need to just take their word for it and I think after 5+ years, now would be as good a time as any."
All thought I liked Guild Wars over these years of play, I'd have to disagree. Arena.net has been wrong about many things over their career. I will say that GW is quite a good game, but due to the company, the chance of me buying GW2 is close to none. -- Magic User Magic Icon.jpg Talk 03:12, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Point is, they wouldn't change their policy in this way and alienate the player base that wants to get the lucky and unlucky titles. Idling on the 9 rings is the only efficient (user-side, anyway) method of getting those titles, and if they added them then they intend for people to get them (and if they added 9 rings they intended for people to idle on them for days at a time). It's not in their interest to pick and choose which accounts to disconnect on a whim like that. And judging by the fact that half of my guild was online but idling on the 9 rings when I logged on to check in yesterday, I don't think it's their policy. --Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png (Talk) 17:11, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
wat. Wyn, don't be stupid. They have multiple servers, and apparently you're on one that isn't messed up. There is clearly something wrong with SOME of them, because that's what code 040 means. Why don't you let people help ArenaNet address the problem, instead of trying to hinder the process.
Most of the people I've seen having this problem are in Europe. When I asked them what server they were on, they all said the same IP address: 216.107.245.108. --Macros 18:13, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Target next ally.[edit]

In the Options (F11) panel, there is the option to set keys for targeting nearest/next/previous Foes and Items, but there is only the option to set a key for target Nearest Ally. Why is there not the option to set keys for next/previous ally? Is this an oversight, or is there a reason for the omission of this ability? I hope my question is clear, and I eagerly await your answer. Thank you. Ailina 16:05, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

I find it easier to target using next/prev using two keys rather using 12 different keys, each unique to a party member. (Plus: the cycle keys don't change between groups; the order of individuals in a party does.) This would also be useful for finding nearby NPCs in outposts. Anyhow, it seems to me that the place to suggest this is as a suggestion. @Ailina: if you build it, I will post my support on the talk page.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:46, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

I'd prefer a community manager who actively seeks out the community instead of waiting for it to come to her, but a Community Manager who's willing to talk to players over an IM service is pretty amazing. I've never seen it happen with any other MMO. You also have to consider the fact that GW has about 1/6th the community management team of standard subscription MMOS. I'd like to see more discussion with the community out of regina, but she can't be everywhere at once. --Tahiri Veila18:05, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

"poor" is a bit strong. "Inconsistent" is more accurate since it's a question of Fan-site VS official-site. But it probly doesn't matter at this point either since they're dumping what's left of the last dying gasps of GW1's final updates off on some other Dev (who probly won't talk to us either). And they've already come out and told us the ideas for those last few balances just aren't coming easily enough (one good look at the feedback area about paras confirms this). ...I mean aside from whatever they already had planned for Mysticism/Scythe changes that is.
If we want to blame something here, it's the fact that GW2 is already attracting more attention than GW1 ever did and the last place people are going to look for info on an unreleased game is a wiki. ...and Linsey getting moved to a new assignment? It's probly another promotion considering she did technically succeed in fixing most of the things that were really broken about this game (storage issues, solo farming, & izzy's messes) so we're also left blaming success for that issue as well. Regina ignoring this page is small potatoes by comparison --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 14:33, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

GW2 Event questions[edit]

It has been mentioned several times in GW2 previews that a single player's decisions can alter the world. I was curious about if any clarification has been given. Questions are in bold.

1) A NPC mentions they are being attacked by Centaurs/Ogres. Instead of the NPC standing there and wants you to go kill several of them as they just stand in the field, the creatures actually attack. If you fail to stop the attack, then they destroy his home or what not. So, does this mean that once someone has stopped them or failed to stop them, then nobody else can ever do that quest?

2) When talking about the events, it has mentioned that everyone that "significantly" helps gets credit. So if a player shows up late, they should just try to ignore the event since they have no chance at getting credit? What about when there are creatures that must be killed to progress the event, like the mentioned archers shooting NPCs in a town, how will others complete the quest if they have already been killed?

3) In the video on the GW2 page, Ree Soesbee states "As a structure, the MMO has lost the ability to make the player feel like a hero. Everybody around you is doing the exact same thing you are doing. The boss you just killed re-spawns ten minutes later. It doesn't care that I'm there."

Number three is something I find the most troubling in it's implications, especially when coupled with other stated goals such as players being able to change the world for others. Does #3 mean, as it appears, that once that boss is killed then it is killed for good? If not, then what is the exact meaning in the statement made by Ms. Soesbee?

4) As shown in the video on the GW2 page, a player destroys a bridge. Now, using the bridge just as an example since it's been stated that players will be able to alter the world for everyone, will others then have to find another way around the chasm since the bridge is destroyed?

5) It's been stated that during events, if players fail to stop the creatures, that towns can be taken over. What happens to players that signed off in said town while it was friendly and then when they sign back on, they are in the middle of a hostile town? It isn't fun play to sign on for a little play only to be slaughtered because you didn't know and event was going to take the town.

5.a) Will players have to worry about not completing all quests as soon as they get them because an event may start that eliminates the mobs they needed?

5.b) Will players have to worry about not being able to turn in quests or take new quests because the town they need is currently help by hostile creatures?

6) What precautions are going to be in place to ensure that players, particularly of high level for an area, can't grief others by events by purposely failing them, causing the event to take over more of the area? This type of world event was describe using the Dredge spreading about and taking over towns as players failed to stop them.

My apologies, as I'm not the least bit skilled in using the wiki. ~ 98.236.96.24 15:23, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

I doubt you will get an official answer even more since this wiki is for a different game, but I can try to answer some myself from what we've been told:
1: No, it doesn't mean that, the events will renew themselves after some time so players can participate again.
2: Not sure about the first part. On second part, there will be no real "quests" so something like quest log asking you to kill monsters which are already dead is impossible.
3: Not sure about this. I'd say the boss will just eventually spawn somewhere in a far-away location again.
4: Yeah, as said, the world around you is constantly changing so you will sometimes have to find a way around.
5: Since we don't know what happens when you log in, I don't know about this. I'd say you will just spawn in the nearest friendly area though.
5a,b: Impossible to happen since no real "quests" exist in GW2.
6: I am not sure what is the exact question here.
Hope I cleared at least something for you. ***EAGLEMUT*** TALK 15:51, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
3 has less to do with the placement of bosses and enemy spawns and more to do with the event system and personal storylines. How you act will change your character's "personality" and NPCs will react differently to you. Once a town has been taken over by an enemy faction it has to be recaptured before you can participate in an event that would take place in that town (not that it matters, we've been told, since there are no drops "unique" to a single event). Eaglemut's answer to #4 is a good example. Things like that. Bosses will have some rational reason for respawning, though, presumably. Not quite sure how it'll work.
For 6 I assume you refer to the system by which an event will escalate in difficulty depending upon the number of players participating. I believe they said that the system is set up to prevent this, or is being set up this way, but I don't remember where I read it or how they explained it.
I would look at the GW2W for further questions on GW2, though, especially since Regina doesn't seem to have much interest in this page anymore. --Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png (Talk) 17:43, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
Pretty sure they'll never explain details on how griefing is counteracted, since that would just lead to a circular battle as people try to work around the anti-griefing system. That being said, the events are supposed to scale up (or down) based on the amount of players that are contributing, so griefing should be taken care of through that (griefing that relies on not contributing would result in the event scaling down, resulting in the "contributing" players not being affected by the griefers). -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 18:04, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
For the OP, I strongly recommend this blog post on ANet's official blog, it answers some of those questions directly. In general, I think you are still looking at events as glorified quests, where you have to interact with wih a NPC in order to either activate or complete your participation. From what I understand, events aren't like that, an event happens, and whether or not you participate and get rewarded depends solely upon whether or not you fight the centaurs attacking the village, or not, and whether or not you beat them, or not, and nothing else. There's no village elder you have to go talk to in order to find out centaurs are attacking or to get your reward.
As for griefing, they've said that they design events with the possibility of griefing in mind, and try to make sure that griefing is impossible or near so. Specifically, they said that there is no positive action a player can take to cause an event to "fail." For example, if the object of an event is to escort a merchant to town, no player can come along and kill the merchant. So the only way to grief would be through inaction, which is harder to do. For example a group of players could, theoretically, try and cause an event to scale up and then abandon the event. We don't know exactly how scaling works, and I doubt we ever will, so we don't know how easy this will be to accomplish, but either way, if the only way an event can be griefed is by a coordinated group of people specifically targeting a single event at a specific point in the event, I think it's safe to assume it won't happen that often. Griefing becomes problematic most often when it only takes one jerk to come along and ruin things for people. (Satanael | talk) 18:30, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the link. It carries many additional links at the bottom that I'm still reading through in my limited spare time. It did help a lot with the questions. Though it raised another.
Why not set hard time limits for unfinished event chains so that they don't "sit at that point for days, weeks, or months until a player comes along and decides to participate in the event chain." If the event was going to sit there then there is no reason to not reset the event so that other players can have a chance to experience the event in full.
Griefing - There are two types that I can think of off hand. 1) The first is already mentioned, where several players show up and do nothing just to make the event near or completely impossible for those actually wanting to do the event. 2) Example: You are a level 10 and just start an event. I'm a level 50, lets say Ranger. As soon as the creatures come for the event, I gun them down before you so much as touch them. You did NOT 'significantly' participate in the event since you never got a chance to even touch those creatures. I'm not looking for a statement on how they solved these issues, just a statement that they have solved them. The statements they give about griefing is ambiguous at best. Again, not how they solved each greifing method, but rather a simple statement on which griefing methods they have solved. This could even encourage players to point out additional methods that can be used for griefing and possible solutions. All to ensure that the events always go as smoothly as possible.
A statement that bothers me is this one, "Events also occur frequently and all over the map. If someone is causing problems at a particular event, it isn’t difficult to find another one to participate in." This would encourage greifers more. This type of response showcases the need for ingame GMs whose only job is monitor events. What I mean by that is, there should be an option to report someone for greifing events and the person on duty looks into it real quick by watching that player's actions for a minute or two to determine if they are or are not griefing the event. This GM does not handle bug or quest questions, just event greifers. This would mean that only one Event GM is needed at a time.
Thank you everyone for helping to answer some of these questions. That is something that I love about the Guild Wars community compared to other games. There is an actual willingness to help others instead of troll them. So, again, thank all of you for your time and assistance. ~ 98.236.96.24 01:32, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
To your first follow-up, hard limits would go against the idea of a "persistent world", so I don't think they want to go that route. For your griefing example, if you're a level 50, the event is going to scale up to the point that you probably won't be able to "gun them down before you so much as touch them". It'll be interesting to see just how responsive the scaling system will be (how quickly it will adapt), but that's the explanation we're currently getting. If you have suggestions about how griefing might occur or be solved (keep in mind we don't know all mechanics yet), consider creating a Feedback account, after registering for a wiki account. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 10:40, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
I believe something was also mentioned in passing about levels not having as dramatic a scaling effect as you get higher up. Not sure how that'll work, but if it's as I imagine, higher levels will allow you to be more powerful because you can be more versatile, not simply more powerful because you're more powerful. Would certainly solve that scaling issue, for the most part. --Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png (Talk) 03:09, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Guild of the Week??[edit]

Regina, im just wondering if you could do something totally epic, could you please please please, bring back guild of the week? it was one of my favourite things to read ever, it showed which guilds where doing well and gave a good indication for players of where they may like to go guildwise, it was also a great way for people to meet each other. i know you at arenanet stopped doing it and it was a big shame, bring it back pleaseeeee. ill love you for ever, and just to start you off, i nominate my own guild : Cant Catch the Gingerbread Man, because of its ability to form into an amazing high end guild so late in the guild. i also think if you bring back guild of the week it will bring much needed motivation to keep players interested and try to get their guild as guild of the week. just please consider it regina Mini Lich

MMO Manifesto Clip Accessibility[edit]

On many occasions I have asked Anet to subtitle their clips they share with the community so their deaf fans can enjoy those clips as well. Have this happened? Not even once to my knowledge. So imagine my disappointment when I saw a picture from gamescon showing this clip subtitled in German. Are German-speaking hearing fans more important than deaf fans from English-speaking countries? The skill videos were not a leak. They were from the actual Guild Wars website. I think it was Regina that posted on Guru in response saying that people search randomly for named video files and these videos had been found. She says that was fine and they're there ready for the update this week. She did ask for people not to upload the videos to youtube or to other video hosting sites.- TheRave talk (talk) 09:57, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
If she did that, then she doesn't understand the nature of the internet and digital media. Anything released in digital form will find its way online. It's just the nature of the web. Trying to fight that is futile. She and Anet would be better off taking advantage of it instead. But as they still rely on the crutch that is copyright, that's not very likely. --Nathe 14:32, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
I don't see how you can take advantage of your work being used in ways you don't want it to be used; in fact, that would seem to me as if they are being taken advantage of. It's not a big deal, is not a secret anymore. It was revealed when they presented the basic character creation (without the customization) and the first steps in the game. They made an elementalist, but they indicated the skull was the Necromancer. I don't remember the name or the employee or which video it was, but it's done. They should be adding the necromancer to the GW2 page anytime soon. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 12:08, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Sure. But the main issue is that not everything posted to Gw2 official site is just public domain that can be redistributed all willy nilly to every other website out there. Visibility and communication[edit]

From what I can gather, it's mainly the wiki community, and active guru players that are up to date on game related information which is a minority of the entire player base. I think this is a problem, where new information (posted here and on guru) about the game isn't properly being relayed to the general player base. Anything new being posted on the wiki or guru is only being read by a small fraction of players... leading to the problem of visibility and communication. I think more important information need to be relayed in-game (such as skill updates etc); and not just the usual ones about botting, hackings, and cheating etc. Also some of the criticisms outlined here User:Auron/RR and it's associated talk page is also valid. In the end it becomes the responsibility of some of the players to relay important information from guru/wiki to other players, and it should not be that way, as it can cause various problems... one of which is the same as the game "telephone" that kids play... more hands the information passes through, the more it changes... which leads to a lot of confusion. So, as community relations manager, what changes in practices think would be the best way to reduce these communication issues? Should we expect the same practices for GW2 or would things change quite a bit, like more options for GM's to communicate with the entire world for example? --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg15:51, 03 October 2010 (UTC)

I'll sign onto this... and also add: If Regina is spending all her "community feedback" time reading Guru & Twitter and none of it reading this page which is hosted on the Official Arenanet servers (for a Reason)... then she's shirking her paid position as CR and it needs to go back to the way things used to be. GW2 is very exciting, but is not an excuse for neglecting this product (gw1). Nor is having fan-run Forums an excuse to sit back and let others handle moderation standards. Real Trolls are kept in check by leadership; both by vigilance & by example. Arenanet is shirking its share of that leadership when it doesn't reinforce & reward positive contributions. --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 18:19, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Motivation[edit]

So... I'm usually not one to QQ, but It's kinda depressing when I look at my GW2 calculator and all I have to do is purchase an oppressor weapon and I'm 50/50. Since it's beta, is there any chance it'll be updated later to give rewards for other things?

As of current, I'm at 8000 treasure hunter, 7500 wisdom, about 85% through LdoA... I was going to purchase the rest of the yearly minipets and get the full oppressor set, but since none of that is apparently going to do anything to improve my HoM, I sorta don't see the point, which is kinda depressing as it makes the time I already put in seem wasted; And doesn't really leave any goals to attain in GW1.Devvu Sumisu

I hope so. If you favor only Paragon and Dervish, and play only with those two professions, you cannot get a full HoM. Because there are no Kurzick nor Luxon armors for those two professions. I'm waiting until they add that 'thing on Cantha', because I hate most paragon armors, and I think a Kurzick paragon armor would be nice, so, once I know for sure they are not adding them, I'll make that one. New Costumes[edit]

The new Halloween costumes look fantastic! I would like to make a suggestion, though: in the future, can you please add the option for females to wear the male design and vice versa? Or at least a "male-esque" version and a "female-esque" version that looks good on both genders? I would loooove to wear the male costumes on my female dervish, especially the one with those cool goat legs -- the female version's boots, while pretty, just aren't the same! And men in stiletto boots look sexy, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. ;) --Wormwood 01:13, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Well, I don't really care about genders or crossdressing, but they did add a second body without head. It would have been really cool if there was a two versions of the body part, one with goat legs and one without, but I think that know it's a bit too late, since they are already done and all. Treatment and research for lung cancer (the leading cause of cancer related death in both men and women) is lagging and this is mainly attributable to the fact that for the most part, it's a preventable cancer since abstaining from smoking would prevent a large majority of lung cancer types. It's kinda sad but a lot of people kinda have the view that if you have lung cancer then it's your fault for smoking all your life... which in most cases it's true but in other cases lung cancer can afflict people who have never smoked anything in their entire life. Exposure to asbestos and rare viruses can cause lung cancer... and chronic exposure to radon gas as well as fine particulate matter can also cause lung cancer. As for prostate cancer, the most diagnosed type of cancer in men and the 2nd leading cause of death for men... already has a lot of attention with prostate exams and a lot of money in research. It is also a slow growing cancer and is generally not very aggressive so in many cases, patients die from old age before they succumb to metastatic prostate cancer. More research is needed for pancreatic cancer IMO since even though it is rare (10th most diagnosed type) it is the 4th leading cause of death because of the lack of treatment options and due to the highly aggressive and painful nature of it. If you are interested in further reading, you can check out the cancer statistics 2010 journal article here [2]. --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg22:49, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Mad King Thorn and Thanksgiving Weekend[edit]

If mad king thorn does come back, may I suggest an event chain in Bone Palace that, after the completion of said quest chain, gives you an unique item called "Mad King Pie" that'd be similar to Keg of Aged Dwarven Ale, but for sweet tooth points.

(single item, 50 uses, gives a posession effect similar to lunar fortunes (but makes you spout mad king's jokes) and gives 25% or 33% attack/cast similar to regular pie for 10+ minutes per use)

I just thought that'd be neat since during the new elonian quest chain Palawa Joko talks about how he intends on making Mad King Pie out of mad King Thorn :3 70.181.72.216

It's different enough Nathe...There's fewer mods for one. Sure, They'll infract ya for acting like a jackass (who doesn't?) but atleast they won't netstalk ya and make up their own reasons to ban ya. Stay on topic there (gw2guru) and you'll be just fine. Speaking of staying on topic.... Has anyone seen a single response to this topic yet? Maybe through twitter or FB? Did anyone ask at the con? Some info would be really appreciated at this point (going on 3 days now) --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 18:08, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
I've got their Twitter page live-bookmarked, and it's been dead as far as question responses for a while. Dunno about Facebook. -- ķ̌ɎǾshĺ User Kyoshi sig.png 00:50, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Crisis in Cantha Summoning Stone[edit]

I thought it'd be a great idea to add, considering Xunlai Agents are from Cantha, a Xunlai Agent Summoning Stone to Crisis in Cantha. I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten lockpicks or someone else has, or other similar things. Just... Things forgotten in storage, or wanted to put in storage, but unable to. 70.181.72.216

I don't it is technically possible to open storage in explorable areas, that's why when you glitch through the gate in Lion's Arch Keep you are unable to use the Xunlai Chest there. --Santax (talk · contribs) 17:13, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
In any case, ANet cannot make use of the suggestion unless it is placed in your own feedback space. Please create an account (or login) and create a page with your idea. (Incidentally, aren't the people who forget lockpicks also likely to forget xunlai summoning stones?)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:32, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Well, it was more because -other- people I know forget lockpicks, I rarely do (though it's annoying when I do) For me, it's more because my warrior has 3 panels full of weapons, plus 45 slots in her inventory taken up with weapons/armor, I physically don't have enough room on her to carry everything >.> 70.181.72.216
You might want to take this idea to John Stumme's page. Unlike Regina, he actually responds. --Nathe 20:51, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Which is kinda sad, considering her position. 67.159.56.162 21:39, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
which makes a bad reflection on ArenaNet. --Boro 10px‎ 12:11, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
The OP was a suggestion, so there's no chance she would look at it. However, I hardly see her posting here, you'd probably want to try the forums somewhere else, or try Martin, since the GW2 stuff he is the publics' "wonder-CM", Regina seems to have fallen out of favor with a lot of the community. ~~000.00.00.00~~ 18:42, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Mercantile Summoning Stones -- Oiseau | User Oiseau Melandru.jpg 01:26, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

(Reset indent) @Boro she dosnt respond on here because of the type of attitude a lot of people have on here like yours and 000's, not to mention the fact that she has said many times that she reads everything but doesn't always respond. on top of all that this page gets huge quickly, and there is a lot of crap up there that i gave up, trying to keeping up with a long time ago.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 06:24, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
@OP: Suggestions go to the feedback portal, but you'll need to sign up for an account. Staff pages are not the place for it.
@everyone else: Drop it. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png 07:52, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
Problem is, you won't get a response from staff if an idea is just put in the feedback space. It'll most likely just be forgotten, if ever looked at at all. --Nathe 23:31, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Although there are rarely staff responses in Feedback, John Stumme and others have pointed to several examples of Feedback-ideas that have been incorporated into the game. They have also said that they frequently read the feedback section, but, as this is usually done during off-hours, they don't have enough time to formulate a formal response.
If your goal is to get an individual response, email and forums seem to have higher drop rates. If your goal is to have an idea actually make it to the game (either GW or GW2), then your best bet seems to be the Feedback space.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:03, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
One paper-and-ink letter is worth about fifty e-mails, though. Have you ever gotten one? They're kind of intimidating in a "we know where you sleep" kind of way. –Jette 02:19, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

PvX fork[edit]

Sup. I'm an admin at both gwpvx.com and pvx.wikia.com (and famed GWW troll, as well), and I just wanted to ask what was up with pvx.wikia still being listed as the only pvxwiki on your website. Wikia's version is flooded with garbage, general crap, and outdated information that no one is going to bother with. gwpvx has a massively higher percentage of edits per day, with an even higher percentage of them constructive. More information is current and relevant, especially in the PvP areas and it's not being run by wikia. Can you either remove wikia's fansite status and replace it with the updated one or just add gwpvx [above wikia] to your fansite listing? Thanks in advance for the reply. —ǥrɩɳsɧƴɖɩđđɭɘş User Grinshpon blinky cake.gif 06:55, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Request for status update on new liaison to GWW[edit]

Early in December, you mentioned that "the team member who will be working with you on requests for technical administration is on paternity leave for the month". Could you set our expectations about when this is likely to be addressed? There are some pending issues (e.g. putting the sysops here in charge of keeping interwiki links current, some recent GWW outages, requests to add capabilities for MWSearch and Recaptcha, etc.).

Thank you.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:28, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

PS (for others reading this public note): I am not signed up to any of the sites or tools that Regina has listed on her contact sheet, except for GWW. If you know of a better way to reach her, please feel free to pass the message along. Thanks.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:28, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

It'd probably be wiser to ask John Stumme this, since he seems to be the only Live Team member responding to anything on the wiki. Another alternative would be to send her a message on Guru (if she allows them). Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 18:36, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, KJ. Since Stumme and Gray are the only two contributing regularly to the wiki, I hate to distract either one of them with things outside their control. Regina's page says that this is still a way to contact her; I'm guessing that, if she is reading the page, she'll find a way to get the information out. Re: guru. I don't have a login there and I don't wish to create one just to request a status update. Thanks for the ideas, but for now, I'll await developments.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:53, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Then I doubt you'll get a response. I'll see if one of the TK guys can pass it along or something. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 20:35, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Neither John Stumme, nor Gaile are involved in this, nor would they have anything to add to it. It is being dealt with. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 11:52, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Daria?[edit]

Art of Guild Wars Prophecies lore information[edit]

Hello Regina, I'm here to ask a similar question that was asked before for a different topic. I've recently found out that the Art of Guild Wars book which was releassed in the Prophecies Collector's Edition holds lore information like the Art of Guild Wars 2 book, some of said lore is not found anywhere in game (for instance, apparently Krytans wrap up their dead and send them on ships into swamps).
For the same reason (rarity to obtain the product now, along with its age) it was asked if the Prima Guides' lore information could be put up on the wiki, I was wondering if it was possible for it to be allowed for the lore information from this book to be placed on the wiki. -- Konig/talk 02:33, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

Regina has not posted on the wiki in several months. If you're looking to get a lroe question answered you're better off going to Gaile or John Stumme.--TahiriVeila 03:50, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
I'm aware of her lack of comment. However, I'm also aware that a majority of the topics do not require her comment, and I'm aware that Stumme would be a better option (I have even had lawyer-related questions sent to him via TK discussions, with no luck sadly), and I know that at this moment Stumme would be busy with what's left to make of the Embark Beach build. I wanted to toss this question this way first, since PR is the most proper location to toss it and while Martin and Stephane are both of the same position they are German and French managers respectively and their time is better spent with their own communities rather than Regina's, and I was curious if I'd get a response here, and if there would be no response I intended to toss it to another employee of ArenaNet. -- Konig/talk 04:02, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
i think you would be better off e-mailing her konig or asking her on twitter or on the tk forms.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 09:08, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

"Stop posting it everywhere", bit dramatic isn't it? Sounds like i'm posting it on every GW related forum and/or wiki. Just posted it on 2 places (Regina & Joe's page) before seeing that Regina didn't read or respond anymore, then decided to post it on Gaile's page. Qaletaqa Hania talk 18:38, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah kinda. Sounds like that. And has the exact meaning of that. You Kyoshi just overreacted. It happened that John probably read some suggestions and done what he could to make the game better (as opposed to catering shadow form farmers/speedclearers who <tldr:15 variations for "are bad">), and talked to players as much as he could. --Boro 10px‎ 18:50, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
I guess hyperboles don't work on the internet, since your interpretation of the "exact meaning" of my post was off the mark. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 06:42, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
Well, happened that I analyzed the quote not just the text... That quote was way off the mark. But hey Anet actually listens (is Regina dead or what?) --Boro 10px‎ 06:46, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
She hasn't posted here in months, but she's active posting on the @guildwars2 twitter and apparently on Guru. We don't know exactly why, but some say it's the large amounts of spamming and trolling that drove her off. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 16:08, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
