Regarding the Hat Glitch[edit]

I know that most people around here will try to argue that the chaos of today should never have happened in the first place, but I for one would like to thank those involved in getting this mess cleaned up rather quickly. People seem to forget that on New Year's Day the world essentially stops moving for the day, so the fact that you guys managed to get this all fixed up in less than 12 hours seems pretty phenominal to me. And besides, bugs happen; they've always happened in programs, and they always will happen. There's only so much people can do to prevent them when there's a definitive deadline, like New Year's Day. Silavor UserSilavorSigIcon.png 03:47, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Aye. I'll bet the last 24 hours have been...interesting times, in the Chinese sense. Hope you managed to get some time with family and friends over the day! Draxynnic 09:15, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
I would like to add my thanks to yourself and the team who worked hard to resolve the problems, as an amateur programmer I understand how easy it is for bugs to appear in code and how hard it is to remove them. Thanks a lot your dedication is appreciated. Draco 10:55, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
As a former programmer, I fully understand how things like this sometimes happen, despite all the testing beforehand. The redux is appreciated. However, I (wondering out loud) am curious as to why management decided to rerun just the finale, as it seems to me that it would be more practical from a player's point of view to just extend Wintersday through the upcoming weekend (mainly to allow for collection of candy cane shards which are needed to play the game (or at least sit on a ring) as part of the finale.Algonda 08:56, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I'm with the people who posted above me, but 13 days into the new year I'm left with one question... any news on the redux? It's been almost two weeks and all the Wintersday things have already been removed, so I'm starting to lose hope of still getting my hat. :( -- User Elveh sig.png Elv 09:55, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Dun worry there's always Wintersday in July :D --Underwood 00:12, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
The Dragon Festival redux took about a month to happen, and the Halloween redux took a week. It will happen, just give it time. Besides, maybe they will wait until Wintersday in July. As least it would be fitting.--Pyron Sy 00:42, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
I was more wondering when, not if; I'm not among the ANet Lies clan. I just thought that after two weeks, it wouldn't be too unreasonable to ask if there was any clue about when the redux would be done- I assume that they would want to get it out of the way before CNY. (And I think that if they waited until Wintersday in July, a lot of people would be very angry, fitting or not. :/ That aside, WiJ is a separate event, I wouldn't count it as a redux.) That isn't to say I expect them to have everything ready in two weeks (I'll be the first to say I'll happily wait a few extra days if it means they can eliminate all the bugs that got in the way of the original event) but I was at least hoping they'd have an indication of the time frame. -- User Elveh sig.png Elv 10:39, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
+1 here. Whether the redux is next week or Wintersday in July matters not to me, but it sure would be nice if ANet passed SOME kind of word of when! (By the way, same here too. I swear by ANet and GW! Keep up the great work! I can't wait to see the effort you put into GW2!!!)114.157.160.88 00:26, 16 January 2010 (UTC)Ryoko
I'm not sure they know themselves yet. I would expect them to tell us the exact time well in advance of it happening, though (at least a week). I think they should take some time to figure out why everything went to hell during Wintersday, and maybe reduce the likelihood of it happening again. I have no reason to believe it would be anywhere near Wintersday in July, as the previous re-runs came out soon after the failed events. Also see this screenshot - it does say "The timeframe hasn't been announced, but it will be soon." User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 02:07, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Well, looks like they have it all sorted out now, so I'll be looking forward to the redux next week. I wonder how many shards I'll need for a hat? Oh well. Will soon find out I guess. :) -- User Elveh sig.png Elv 15:00, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
I think the usual for such things was 250. Plus you have an entire event to farm them again. Could be lowered to 125 as there are two hats, but I doubt it. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 15:13, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
I WISH I had the time to go and farm! But since the redux is outside of my holiday time off, I have work, uni, and my own birthday arrangements getting in the way there. I'm sure I can somehow get 250 together, but it'll be a little trickier for me personally this time 'round. Don't get me wrong though, I'm very grateful that there's a redux in the first place, and maybe I can avoid the farm by squeezing in an hour or so on the day of the finale. Was just wondering. :D -- User Elveh sig.png Elv 15:17, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
You could always buy some if you really need to. Or ask nice guildies. :) User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 15:57, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeppp! Like I said, it'll work out fine, just not yet sure what I'll do. I could do the total nerd thing and take a day off- I think the face of my boss if I told him why I want a day off would totally make it worth it. >.> -- User Elveh sig.png Elv 18:57, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

AB Map[edit]

Hey does ab map ever change? we've been in kurzick place for for 3 months now--99.243.161.169 04:11, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

AB maps change, presumably based on the win/loss ratio of the sides in question. Right now the Kurzicks are being too bad to push into Luxon territory, so everyone is stuck in the Kurzick areas. If the Kurzicks start winning, the maps will shift. Unless it's broken. –Jette 04:16, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
yeah its based on win/loss ratio, i dont know if its broken. personly i hardly/never AB, but when i do i win 80% of the time though (as kurzick) InfestedHydralisk 04:45, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Cool, dont hesitate to land them a hand when they suceed to push to Kanai. Yseron - 86.209.71.72 11:07, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

I really want to bring this problem up for discussion / notice. AB as one of the more frequented PvP formats is currently BROKEN. Its not fun anymore. In fact it makes me and many others want to quit the game for good. When i left for AION 6 months ago the situation was the same and nothing has changed. The problem is the following:

Due to unknown reasons the Luxon playerbase in AB is far stronger that the Kurzick one. This results in a dominance of the Luxon side constantly winning AB matches. The current system initiates mapchanges on the win/loose ratio of the respective side. The result of this is that the map is "Ancestral Lands" nearly 80% of the time. However this map strongly favors the kurzick side, resulting in VERY reduced odds for the Luxon side. With the current situation BOTH sides suffer. Luxons always loose and are STILL stuck on the same stupid map because as soon as the border changes to grenz it gets pushed back within a few hours. So there will be little to NO people playing luxon AB and on the other side Kurzick are waiting over 30 minutes for one match.
This situation is intolerable. It NEEDS to be fixed. I suggest either DELETING the map "Ancestral Lands" and "Kaanaxai Canyon" or introducing a FIXED ROTATION system for AB maps where they get rotated on a daily basis. This would opt for more variety and fun in AB, without introducing imbalances as the current situation.

I sincerely hope that you read and consider this Regina, and i think im speaking out of the hearts of a few thousand regular ABers out there.--User Samurai Smartie Sig.PNGSamurai_Smartie talk 20:52, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

The NCSoft Announcement[edit]

"For example, a thread on a third-party Guild Wars forum this New Year's attracted a good deal of attention. It detailed a list of security vulnerabilities that supposedly had been discovered on our account website, ending with the alarmist note that "the only responsible thing NCsoft can do is to shut off their website, as soon as possible."

Well, at least they read the forums. Btw, I know they said that those holes don't exist, but I seem to remember seeing a detailed layout of the site which would say otherwise. But I'm not an expert, so meh.

Canthan newyear[edit]

How will the Re-run affect the canthan new year?

if i remember correctly thats supposed to be on feb the first. Has it been cancled or just pushed to a different date? (Ixillius 00:18, 23 January 2010 (UTC))

2007 feb 16-19 feb 18
2008 feb 8-11 feb 7
2009 jan 30-feb 2 jan 26

Granted the sample size is small, but I would guess we will see it feb 12-14 -- Both times the new year fell on a weekend, the festival was that weekend... the other year it was the closest weekend to the day. 71.146.81.65 04:56, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Just to follow up for future reference, Canthan New Year always falls on or near the Lunar New Year as celebrated by most East Asian cultures (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, etc.) so one can usually predict with pretty good accuracy when the Canthan New Year will be by looking at these irl celebrations. For example, we can expect Canthan New Year 2011 to come on or near February 3. (Satanael | talk) 19:04, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Too bad for all those players who bought extra accounts just to make more predictions, huh? In b4 refund requests. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 20:16, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeehaw another title to grind, that was sarcasm people, I am neither happy nor unhappy with the retirement of the XTH but here you can see a way to reduce the repetitive and/or non-entertaining gameplay for people that do not play PvP.
Why that suggestion? Well PvE players only have 2 daily quests in order to get the Zaishen title maxed, doeing those quests over and over again with other characters is boring as hell. Personally that's also the reason I hardly do any of the Zaishen Quests.
Ow some people wanna suggest farming so I could buy Z-Keys? Same problem, to boring. And with the upcoming nerfs I think people will find it even harder to get "stuff".
PvP? Again, same problem, to repetitive. I've never liked PvP in any RPG for longer then... maybe 2 years, games I like that offer better "PvP" are games like Mortal Kombat, CoD, etc... In RPG's i've always found that there is to much elitism.
This was not about XTH but about the title that came with it.
And yes too bad for all those players who bought more accounts just to reduce grind in order to max the Zaishen Title Track faster, lucky I still use my small number of accounts for other things like storage, wich is actually the main reason I bought them for, XTH was just a bonus. --talk Qaletaqa Hania 21:05, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Q, I like those ideas, but how do any of those help with the Zaishen title? None of them seem to reward Balthazar faction, which is used to purchase Zaishen keys, which is what advances the Zaishen title track. Unless you're using the Zaishen coins to buy them. In which case, stop, there are other, more valuable uses for your coins. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 21:17, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
@Freedom Bound: Yeah, I intend to max it with Zaishen Coins once I get 13 Heavy Equipment Packs. I don't have any atm due to the repetitive nature of the Zaishen Quests.

Why focus on Guild Wars 2?[edit]

I know this probably going to be seen or read as extremely negative so I will try to be as constuctive as possible. Ok here goes, Firstly may I point out that Guild Wars the first one is losing players by the day, Can I explain why? Of course I can the LACK of RESOUCES that you currently have WORKING on GUILD WARS. Yes I fully understand that GW is your (Anet's) game, but the audience and the reason your all still actually developing and working on games is off the money ANET make from PLAYERS. I personally have not signed into guild wars for several months because of the lack of content / interest been added or noted.

Can I now point out.... that if ANET does not start paying attention to their CURRENT game that is overly laid with big problems then what faith should we have in ANET to develop a NEW Game that is going to satify the PLAYERS.

I would really want to recommend you start doing your research about what the player base actually wants, do some systems analysis, interview people, send out questionaires, Hire more staff to anaylse this data and produce something that the players actually want rather than starting a new project that again you will probably not be able to maintain properly.

  1. They believe they are paying enough attention to it, and for some players, they are. Heck, for most developers, to continue to devote chunks of the team's time to things like large balance fixes, 5 years after the game came out, while developing the next one -- I mean, wtf? Go A.net.
  2. If you want A.net to remain solvent, and allowing GW1 to keep running at all, you have to let them make an amazing GW2, or else you have to start paying for GW1 if you want continued focus on it. Frankly, I think most GW1 players would VASLTY! prefer that they make GW2 eventually than that they continue to update GW1 forever.
Yes, they should continue to maintain it, instead of doing money-costing major updates... which is indeed
3. What they're doing. | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg (UTC) 17:04, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Not that it matters or anything, but I would rather pay a monthly fee for GW the way it was 6 months after Prophecies was released than get this game for free. I think others feel the same, but maybe not. Also, this is the journal, where people moan about Regina's announcements. You may be looking for Regina's feedback page, where people moan about everything else. –Jette 19:59, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
^ I agree, I'd rather have GW the way it was. -- Tha Reckoning File:User Tha Reckoning Sig2.jpg 22:04, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
If I could turn back time to when they were developing EN, I'd suggest to keep GW2 on the silent side (not even release that they are making it) while having larger live team (at least 1 from each "pod" or role in game design) to make a few more things for GW1, then in like 3rd/4th anniversary release an announcement of GW2. GW1 would have much more content, GW2 would be more created when announced, thus creating a smaller "time of no info."
Of course, they could always expand the live team so that it is more than 3 people and QA/TK. After all, GW1 is still a source of income, and people will still be playing it when GW2 comes out (I know people who, like myself, will return with new content, I know of people who cannot afford a new computer for GW2, I know people who don't want to buy GW2, and I know people who will remain in GW1 for friends who cannot/will not get GW2 - no evidence for numbers, though I'm sure there's far more than the few I know).
However, that said, the lack of resources is not the major reason why people are leaving GW1 - they are leaving because GW1 is old and becoming boring - there are new games out there to play, why stay with a game which you played through? Why stay with a game when you bought a brand new game? Even if content were still coming, people would leave daily, just as has been the case since day 1 of the release of Prophecies. -- Konig/talk 08:40, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
I, for one, think that they should focus more on GW2 than on GW1. Anet is a relatively small company, and if they keep a large crew working on GW1, GW2 will be a bad game. I have recently stoppes playing GW, not because of new updates, or the lack of them, but because I can only play a game for so long without it becoming boring. I think they did a great job on GW, because I have played it for almost four years, which is way longer than any other game I have ever played. The great thing about GW is that it is not the same game it was 4 years ago. Jette, if you say you liked it better just after the release of Prophecies, I believe you. But even if it was a great game, would you still be playing it now if it were completely the same? Wouldn't it become boring to play a game that remains the same for four years? I agree that GW is not as good as it used to be, but you can't expect them to keep focusing just on this game, when they've reached the limit of new things they can do with it. They have a lot of new ideas that just can't be inplemented in this game and therefor, they should make a new game. Will GW2 be better than GW1? That differs per person. I loved GW1 and from what I've seen, I'm gonna love GW2 even more. Ofcourse there will be GW1-lovers who will hate GW2, but you can never please everybody. --My contributionsElemonk Nibo 12:05, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
"Anet is a relatively small company, and if they keep a large crew working on GW1, GW2 will be a bad game."
Understaffed companies usually hire people.
"But even if it was a great game, would you still be playing it now if it were completely the same?"
Chess is a good example of how a balanced game can have very strong replay value. Then again, I get the feeling that you're primarily a PvE player, in which case I can see how easily things grew lolstale (in fact, I'm not sure how you lived for 4 years). Not that PvP isn't stale, but that'd not due to lack of change so much as the current (and recent) meta simply blowing ass.
"I agree that GW is not as good as it used to be, but you can't expect them to keep focusing just on this game, when they've reached the limit of new things they can do with it."
Adding content is impossible because..? There's a namespace dedicated to "new things things they can do with it". While some of those may be technically impossible, there are many, many more that aren't. User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 12:23, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
To hire more people to do more cool stuff, they need more money. To get more money they have to charge... us. How much more money are you willing to invest in GW1? Not much on my part. I loved this game, it has taken much more of my life than a game ever should... But now they are making a new game to put all the "cool stuff" in it, not to waste their time with a game that has outshined its lifetime. All stars become dwarves, eventually. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 14:01, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
"To hire more people [...] they have to charge us."
Makeover Pack, Character Name Change, Dwayna's Regalia, Xunlai Storage.
If they added more people, they could add more content, and they could charge more for it. User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 14:05, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Those charges were to keep the current crew going for a while. And we all know how a large number of players responded to "microtransactions." That's not really "new content," either. Content takes much more effort, time, and resources to create. To make it pay for itself, they'd basically have to make a micro-expansion or something, like the BMP, and again, why do that for GW1? To bring a few thousand players back in for two weeks? User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 14:10, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
"Those charges were to keep the current crew going for a while."
Quite. The exact same principle would apply if they were to increase their staff, so I don't see why it's an issue.
"That's not really "new content," either. Content takes much more effort, time, and resources to create."
I'd define "new content" as something that was not there previously but is now - this encompasses all of the above listed additions. I'm not sure how you'd define it, or what you'd call new... non-content... stuff. Regardless, it's still profitable, and they should do more of it.
"To make it pay for itself, they'd basically have to make a micro-expansion or something, like the BMP..."
Do you think that Dwayna's Regalia revenues did not surpass the expenses put into developing it? I strongly, strongly doubt that. Consider that at $10/unit, ArenaNet generated a revenue of $10,000 per thousand units sold. I'm willing to be that their sales figures exceeded that, and I'd certainly hope that the development costs were nowhere close to that.
"Why do that for GW1? To bring a few thousand players back in for two weeks?"
To make money, of course. Revenue becomes capital, and, from what we've been hearing, ANet's current supply of that is stretched pretty thin. A lot of the "no, we don't have resources for that" could be eliminated - everyone wins.
Of course, the alternative is... well, nothing. How's that going so far? User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 15:19, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Who pays for festivals, running the servers, skill balancing, and all the other stuff they do on top of making a couple costumes? Those payments weren't supposed to pay for the item you got, they were supposed to pay for a lot more. A layer of strawberry jam on a slice of toast is yummy. Eating a jar of jam with a spoon is going to make you nauseous looking at jam for the rest of the year. Stuffing the game with microtransactions to pay for pointless stuff isn't going to end well.
Content is a new mission, quest, zone, weapon or armor series. A pair of costumes and some storage tabs is hardly "content," it's something someone came up with and did in some spare time. Ok, the costumes may have taken like a week or two worth of work hours... 4th birthday stuff was content. A name change/makeover is a convenience fee that pays for other things at the cost of players who don't like their name or hairstyle. Storage tabs were already in the game. Hair, skin color, and faces were already in the game. The costumes teeter on the edge of "new content" but it's just not enough, it was a one-size-fits-all and got old pretty fast. Here's an important question: what covered those costs before, and has that means of income suddenly stopped?
If the answer's no, and "Those payments weren't supposed to pay for the item you got, they were supposed to pay for a lot more"" , then that means that they've got more income than they previously had.
Here's another important question: have anet's expenses significantly increased recently?
I can't say that they haven't with any certainty, but I have 0 reason to believe that they have (no announcements) - in fact, it seems to be the opposite. They added a large volunteer force (TK) and automated some processes. They also stopped supporting the XTH and are now putting out skill balances half as often.
So, from the look of it, they have more income and fewer expenses. Hiring another person so that Linsey doesn't have to work 70-hour weeks, so that there is more human resource to assist with things that have the potential to generate income, so that they don't need to take developer time from gw2 to work on gw1, doesn't seem like such a bad idea from where I'm standing.
If, as it's been portrayed, the GW1 and GW2 teams are currently operating largely independent of one another, it doesn't make sense that they'd let the former die before the latter debuts. How do they keep it alive? Add and improve - both things that they currently profess to be understaffed for. User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 16:42, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Hints[edit]

You know what would be nice? Not having to site-hop 38905748905748907 different places to get all the content. Facebook, Twitter, etc are not places to release information, no matter how unrelated. Official websites (including this Wiki) and in-game should be the only places anything official is done. --136.142.214.19 15:20, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

I tend to mostly agree with the IP. It's annoying to have to scramble and search all over the place for scraps of information, especially if you don't have all day on your hands, and like, you know, have some RL over Easter. It's neat in its own way to be able to discover things in unusual places, but at the same time, it just gets annoying after a while, so I hope it's kept to a healthy minimum, while it's still "fun and fresh." User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 17:20, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Could somebody please list or post the links for these "hints"? I don't do facebook or twitter or any of the social networking sites. Also, how do these people that are setting up these "hints" know what Guild Wars plans? --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 00:44, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
The people setting up the hints are the official Guild Wars accounts on the respective social networking sites. I don't have the links but I'm sure with minimal effort you could find them. I know there is a Guild Wars page on Facebook and Twitter. As far as complaints about how difficult it is to keep up... Facebook and Twitter are social networking sites that lots of people are on already for other reasons. I can go to Twitter and read updates from the Diablo account as well as Guild Wars. It's actually easier to see if new Guild Wars info has been released in these places than it is here because the only reason to be at this wiki is Guild Wars. If you currently aren't playing Guild Wars you probably aren't reading the website or the wiki, but these days many people are always on Facebook and/or Twitter. Social Networking also has potential to increase the visibility of the game among people who aren't already playing the game through things such as trending topics or just someone seeing the fan page on one of their friend's Facebook profiles. Personally I use neither Twitter or Facebook but I occasionally come back and check the wiki. I certainly understand why they have taken this path and it seems superior to releasing information and hints on the wiki via the multiple developer talk pages and journals flooded with garbage comments and melodrama. At least on Facebook and Twitter they have control over the content on their accounts. 58.108.239.204 12:15, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
You are correct about the marketing part of it, it is increasing visibility and all that good stuff in your WoT. But on the other hand, they've released different tidbits here and there, and one has to visit each and every place to get it all. Would be better if there was some page set up somewhere as a "summary" for all this stuff going on, either on the wiki or on the official website, so that people don't have to go to Facebook AND Twitter AND Guru AND wiki AND gw2 wiki AND guildwars.com AND guildwars2.com AND wherever the heck else to find out the "big picture" of what's really going on. War in Kryta Prerequisites[edit]

Can we get clear word on the prerequisites for the new content? The white mantle will split into two factions. The Peacekeepers will make it abundantly clear to some of the mantle that the way they are doing things is horribly, HORRIBLY wrong, and these will speak out against the UTTER TYRANNY that their leadership has become. The resulting schism will eventually cause the White Mantle to divide completely into a protagonist group and an antagonist group - you'll be able to join the former. User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 17:49, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

HoM Clarification[edit]

I'm not expecting anyone to open up 100% about how the link will work, but I would really appreciate some clarification on how we should be preparing our GW1 halls, specifically single-character titles such as Party Animal or Drunkard on display in account-mode. I don't know where else to put this so move it if necessary. If multiple characters in GW1 have maxed single-character titles (one character maxed Drunkard, another maxed Party Animal, etc) will our GW2 character gain the benefits of all of them? Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 1.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 20:41, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

I believe that was the whole point of the account-HoM update, so that it doesn't matter which character earned a specific title, the GW2 inheritance would be account based. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 17:50, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Design Manifesto[edit]

That Design Manifesto document is depressing. The more I hear about GW2, the more it screams to me that I do not want it. For example, for a long time we were told that race was purely cosmetic (=good thing). Now, race does something (goddamn it). And that's only the start of my beef with that article. --Emkyooess 13:30, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

You know what'd be great? If the 1,200 or so skills in this game had only purely cosmetic differences. FINALLY it would be fun. ... Really, I prefer as much customization, which means choices actually having an effect, as possible. If Norn, Human, Sylvari, Charr, and Asura were all alike except cosmetically, I would only play one of them.
This article is so far the best news about GW2 I've heard. It's the one that offers the least disappointment, and, dare I say it, hope. How can you deny that the combat system sounds so much better than anything they've said or made previously? If you don't find their description of it exciting, I think you might enjoy Runescape a little better. | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg (UTC) 13:40, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

HAAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA. HA. HAHAHAHA. Oh God I think I almost choked. My prediction is that GW2 will be a fair-to-middlin' MMO for the first 4-7 months, then go the route of GW1. I don't understand how a game can possibly become less fun as it's updated, but hey, go figure. I blame the Internet and closed-source MMO models. Back when games were on cartridges, "patching" was a foreign concept, so you had to make sure the thing worked right off the bat. –Jette 13:58, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

How can you consider something like a jar of bees that is described as an "environmental weapon" to be anything like a consumable? Does it make you run faster, or jump higher? No, it is a weapon, like any other, and in some cases may be what is necessary. Emkyooess... I have an original nintendo you can buy with about 50 games. Seems like that is more your speed. As far as I know Salma got Lion's Arch because it is controlled by the Lionguard and they just gave it to her. Given that the White Mantle have now forbidden travel to and from Lion's Arch, one can assume they'll probably attempt to take the city. --Orry 17:51, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Errors 007 and 004[edit]

Are spiking today. Lots and lots making the game unplayable. Could you guys please look into this? Thanks in advance. --talk Large 15:37, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

One of my guild mates is scared to leave the GH for fear of code errors :P i'm fine and so laughing at him ofc Dinsy 17:59, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
My initial testing seemed to suggest that European servers, specifically in the German side, were acting up; as soon as I switched to American servers, voila, problems solved. However, a guildie is having the same problems on American servers, and she cannot leave the GH (And you can't change districts in the GH). --talk Large 18:11, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Of course, now the event is over, but keep this in mind for next time if you have similar problems: if you just click "leave GH" in the guild menu, you don't get a choice of district, but if you map out of the GH, you can choose which district to go to. So:
  1. from GH: map out to Great Temple of Balthazar (no events take place there, so the lag is nowhere near as bad as in the "holiday" cities) and choose the district that you want (American-English, Europe-English/German/Polish/etc., Asia-Chinese/etc.). From there, you can now go anywhere in the world without having to pass through LA, KC, or Kamadan, if you really have to:
  2. Cantha: talk to one of the guys at the Great Temple of Balthazar that takes you to Fort Aspenwood or Jade Quarry. Now you have access to anywhere in Cantha, or
  3. Tyria: from FA/JQ go through the map portal to Borean Station. Now you have access to anywhere in Tyria or Eye of the North, or
  4. Elona: there's no 'easy' way to by-pass Kamadan to get to Elona, but after you get to Borean Station, you can go through the Crystal Desert and take the portal to the Desolation, and now have access to anywhere in Elona. This is always an option if you really can't go through Kamadan, which I know is sometimes the case during events like Wintersday or Halloween.
The good: you can get anywhere in the world without having to go through a port city if you really need to, and you can choose any district when leaving the guild hall through the Great Temple of Balthazar. The bad: you have to be pretty far in the campaign maps to use these "shortcuts," and of course own the campaigns you pass through, because it's a one-way chain in the order of GH -> (choose a "safe" district) -> GtoB -> Factions -> EotN -> Prophecies -> Nightfall.
I know this isn't exactly a solution to the problems some people get during events, and it gets uglier the further down the chain you have to go, but it's one way to get around them if you really don't have another choice. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 21:11, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, that certainly helps. Thanks a lot for the help and the time you took writing that. I'll pass it along to my guildie. --talk Large 01:25, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

GuildWars.Com down[edit]

Guild wars site wont load for me or other guildies? Anyone else getting this? Dinsy 20:55, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Loads fine for me. Better to ask this on another page for asking questions, Regina doesn't handle the website and even if she did this is the journal page. –Jette 22:24, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

How about an update already?[edit]

it has been about 2-3 months and all we have gotten were shit updates -_-; a nerf here a bug fix there. WTF anet??!!?/ REALLY? shit. lets go the ball going already -_-; and dont give me that "it is summer" fucking excuse bcuz u guys are NOT in school, lmao! u dont get a fucking summer break so lets gogogogo! speed that shit up!! if GW2 is like this...ha...fuck that............all talk. fuck this. i quit. im gonna go play zelda or some shit. 00:12, 03 September 2010 (UTC)

I think the lack of updates for GW1 is directly related to GW2 not being like this... also, should have been on Feedback talk:Game updates | 72 User 72 Truly Random.jpg | 00:49, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
John Stumme said in an interview the next update is hoped for being in September - which usually would mean mid-September. Of course, that's hoped for. And yes, the lack of GW1 updates is due to Gamescom and PAX. It's Anet's "hectic" time of year, so the entire place is slow. -- Konig/talk 01:13, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Generally August is reserved for trade show preparation. There's never been anything really big going on, and Anet had a lot going on for the tradeshows this year. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 03:20, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
