Feedback talk:User/Knighthonor/Mutiple Voices to choose from at Character Customization

I'm sorry, but really? Do you really think that it's just a matter of snapping their fingers one day, "Oh! We should add more than one voice!" and suddenly it comes into being? If they did, they'd have to scout out voice actors for the additional voices. Then they'd have to add another good film length or eight to the already huge line-up of voices. Think about it: there are millions of story combinations. That means that there are hundreds of lines of dialogue for one character alone. Imagine having to record those hundreds of lines of dialogue again not just for one character, but for two characters of every one of the five races, and not just once but what? Three times for three different voices? After that I'm sure it would easily turn 60 feature length films worth of dialogue into at least 70-75 feature length films worth of dialogue. Not to mention the time it would take, how it would delay release, and how much it would cost them even more to pay for the contracts of the voice actors used.

If anything similar to this is implimented, and I'm not saying that they may not have it already implemented and just didn't show it at the demo, I'm sure it would more likely be the ability to adjust the pitch of the voice rather than the voice itself. While yes, I've been spoiled a few games now by being able to choose the voice, it isn't gamebreaking nor do I think that "there's still time." Unless you'd rather them go back to the usual grunts and groans and roars used in other games rather than the dialogue that they've already recorded.

And just for the record, I'm not saying that this is a bad idea in itself. I'm just saying that given the nature of GW2's dialogue and design, it'd be unreasonable for them to suddenly decide to record more voices if they haven't already put multiple ones together. Well new voices could always be added after release, really. Should the developers see the desire of the community and choose to act on it, they could do it. All the dialoug lines are already written up, they just need about 2-3 weeks of semi-daily work with a voice actor to get them to finish the lines. I personally would love it, but I doubt it would be a thing they could easily get in by their release date. Id support this.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 21:53, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
From what I read and saw during the week devoted to the game's sound design and what I know about digitized sound, there really wouldn't be a need to re-record all of the dialogue for each new voice. You make one master recording and then - using the tools that already exist for the sound designers - you tweak the master recording to create different voices.
In one of the videos they even discuss how they add little nuances to recorded actors' voices to change them to better fit the NPC character, the environment, or the situation. So even as things stand right now, the dialogue you will be hearing in-game will not be an unedited version of an original voice recording; they've already been digitized and manipulated.
If they're already doing that with the current voice recordings being used in the game, it wouldn't be that difficult to take those recordings being used for the players' characters and add the ability to customize the voice at character creation time (within certain limits; no Minnie Mouse voices, please). How abou just 4 voices?[edit]

How about instead of just 2 voices, male and female, we have 4. Young Male, Young Female, Old Male, Old Female. That should accommodate most players.

This is a good idea, the only question is, is it feasible. --Lone_Guardian_802 12:37, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Well, considering how much dialogue there is in this game, even if the main character doesnt speak in every cut scene... there is just way too much dialogue to rerecord.

I do like this idea. It has been stated that they have recorded dialogue equal to approx. 60 feature films. It would really be a great part of the character customization.Eris Of Evenfeather 03:15, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
I like the idea, but there's also multiple languages! --Life Infusion «T» 02:08, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Select voice pitch; render pitch on user's computer[edit]

nice idea they did that in DA, very hard to impliment in this case but Crane Songs' compromise whereby you alter the pitch/tone of the voice could probably be done digitally with minimum effort (less anyway) and no new voice actors, assuming their contracts allow for their voices to be used after manipulation (i wouldn't think there'd be a problem) i hope the dev team read this page 'cos that is gold, has that been implimented in other games or was it an original idea??? Was just going to suggest this. A sliding bar to adjust the pitch; the pitch change would be rendered on your computer only. A lot of the female voices sound really dumb: "OMG, I was at the mall, and like, you know, I saw this, like, really cool pair of, like, shoes!!!1!! Like, it was, OMG, so cool!" If I have to hear that voice for the rest of my game, I think I might just burn a house. Lorazcyk 03:59, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
