Requests for research

Requests for research are for assisting editors in gathering empirical results from in-game research and testing. These should be relatively short and easily accomplished tasks. For lengthy tasks or long-term data gathering efforts, create or participate in a project instead (and perhaps add just a few of the most pressing questions here). Use {{resolved}} to mark tasks as completed.

To create a new request: add a description of the test to the bottom of the list below. Be as specific as necessary to avoid ambiguous answers. Any user is welcome to assist with a request by running the test and posting the results here. While the following resembles a talk page, avoid lengthy discussions on the results. Consider moving long discussions to a talk page to avoid cluttering this page.

For more areas where research has been requested, see the research needed category.

For research that has been completed, see the completed research page.

Skill icon resize formula[edit]

Does Guild Wars use cubic or linear, or another interpolation to resize skill icons in-game? --Jette User Jette awesome.png 00:56, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Cracked Axe, Tattooed Blade, Swamp Club[edit]

Do these weapons still exist in-game? Were they renamed in an update? Do they no longer drop, but existing ones can still be found?

Signet of Binding[edit]

Can the newly buffed Signet of Binding take control of "special" spirits like the one in the Ebony Citadel (Tormented Soul (Ebony Citadel), Listless Soul, Demonic Soul, Shrouded Soul)? And if so, does it remove the environmental effect they cause? And if so, is that effect applied against the monsters themselves? --Jette User Jette awesome.png 19:04, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

I am currently unable to test this as I would have to finish all of DoA again, but I think since it had worked in similar situations (Slaver's Exile Spirits and the Spirit of Portals from Sunjiang District) but now doesn't that they will have probably made it not effect the DoA spirits at all. As always I could be wrong, o would that I be wrong again. --User Tenri My image.jpg Tenri 05:25, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Fireworks Master[edit]

Would be nice to have a preview (screenshots) on services provided by Fireworks Master NPC. Elephant 13:23, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Withdraw Hexes[edit]

With 21 Divine Favor, Withdraw Hexes is supposed to recharge 1 second faster for each hex removed. Does this have the same bug recently found with "None Shall Pass!", if the recharge is reduced to less than 0 seconds? Mora 08:48, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

What?--98.116.168.26 19:00, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

Interrupt prevention/interrupt effects[edit]

It seems all interrupt prevention is broken or the concise description is misleading. See here Previously Unsigned 00:23, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Cost of "exotic" PvP reward items[edit]

I'd like to find out the cost of all pvp reward items from tolkano of the highest tier. I've done Hammers, Bows, Staves, Wands, Focii and Shields, but still need Axes, Daggers, Scythes, Spears and Swords. I've highlighted which I suspect will cost more than the usual 20 Silver Zaishen Coin at Template talk:Weapon infobox/PvP reward. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 23:35, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

This has been answered.--98.116.168.26 19:01, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

Summon Stone Ally Evaluations[edit]

A discussion at Talk:Legionnaire#Evaluation spawned a team work to observe, analise and document positive and negative aspects of these NPCs, the communal effort is currently taking place at User:Infinite/Sandbox. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.png¥oshida Keiji(talk) 14:22, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Light of Deldrimor 2011 update documentation[edit]

Despite the welcome fix Hidden Treasures have had way back when, documentation of all of them remains missing on the individual dungeon articles. I have noticed this during a run through the Sepulchre of Dragrimmar today, and added it: [1]

Ideally, all Hidden Treasure locations are added, for all dungeons. This will take a long time by myself, so I am requesting volunteers for this mini-project. - Infinite - talk 20:52, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

Backfire AI[edit]

From current notes in Backfire article:
Similar to Chaos Storm, the AI will only use this skill on a foe wielding a staff or wand, even if the potential target is a spellcaster-primary profession foe with 8 spells on their skill bar.

From current walkthrough in Vanguard Bounty: Countess Nadya:
If your character is a caster, you can also wield a martial weapon: the AI will never use Backfire on foes wielding a martial weapon.

The real actions of Countess Nadya contradict these notes. As I have tested, she always uses Backfire against my Monk (Mo/Me with Fire Imp ally) equipped with a sword + shield or a longbow; sometimes Shatter Delusions after that. Apparently the advice in the walkthrough is wrong at least for Monks; I haven't tested it with other caster professions. Anyway either Nadya has a specific AI which ignores the character's weapon, or the common rule that AI takes into account a martial weapon does not work anymore, or (less probably) a Monk, as most hated by AI profession, is an exception. Some research with other professions against other AI foes would be very helpful. 109.252.109.9 06:39, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

she ignores this for other caster professions as well, just tested. regardless of weapon. i removed it from the page and fixed it on nadya and then requested verification on backfires page so it can be sure, if it is, we can assume nadya is just broked. Shade the (talk) 12:12, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
Question for those testing: does she cast Backfire on spellcasting professions before they cast spells during the fight with her? If she does, the note might not be as up to date with more "recently" introduced enemies in comparison to old ones. If she does not, the note can be true until a character starts casting spells.
i casted 0 skills at all and she casted backfire on me when i was weilding a bow, and when i was wileding a melee weapon and shield. Shade the (talk) 18:19, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
Also, does she cast backfire on spellcasting professions that have no spells equipped? - Infinite - talk 17:17, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

Having just tested Backfire functionality on the Storm Riders in Pockmark Flats, the AI in normal mode does ignore characters wielding martial weapons, however the AI on hard mode will cast backfire on characters wielding martial weapons without issue. It's quite likely the Vanguard quest enemies are using the hardmode AI. This backs up similar noticed changes to the use of Chaos Storm on that skill's discussion page.
