Account Merge

Looking to merge user:Vincent E V A N with this current account and to have the redirects deleted. Specifically I want this to be my up-to-date name and for Vincent E V A N to be merged into it. Viperblossom (talk) 21:32, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

Merged. I'm sure Greener'll handle any cleanup, Greener's good like that. - Tanetris (talk) 15:55, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

Editing fun

I don't really need an account, but someone pls fix this page: https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Warrior_armor I clicked on the wrong window while translating the page and wiki saved changes.... No idea how I was able to save in the first place. Tried undoing and saving back the original myself, neither worked. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 107.3.188.161 (talk) at 05:05, 5 December 2016‎ (UTC).

All fixed! No worries about it. G R E E N E R 05:23, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Hi, would it be alright if you fixed the warrior link (https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Warrior_armor) again, I can not believe I made the same mistake twice. This should no longer occur, if only because I've completed my translations. Thank you --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 107.3.188.161 (talk) at 09:51, 5 December 2016‎ (UTC).
Alright, this is the last time I fix this before I demand a pay raise from you! G R E E N E R 10:27, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Old User Account to New User Account Move

moved from User talk:Greener

My former acct: User:MystiLefemEle - I am no longer able to log into and would like to know if I can or Admin, move said account to my new user acct: User:TikkaLeFem Thank you..TikkaLeFem (talk) 18:22, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Accounts can be merged, yes, but they normally require a user to log in on the accounts to prove ownership. The merging is not something which I can do, but a bureaucrat can.
I tried to see if a check-user would pull up any information, but the last edit was too long ago. Could you confirm that you've tried to recover the password? Is that step not working? G R E E N E R 19:36, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Too bad about the boots! A consistent set of pictures would also be lovely to have ("One of these things in not like the other..."). One of the goals of those pages is to set a high contrast between sections which can or cannot be dyed. The green in the first set of images does just that. Having black be the colour will end up hiding information from the players, even when used in the last set of images. :(
Thank you for the offer of those images, though! G R E E N E R 20:16, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello! This is the Guild Wars Wiki, which is not connected to your Guild Wars account. While we are happy to allow you to create a wiki account, it won't be able to log you into the game itself. We recommend you visit the official website to register an account, or simply follow the instructions found on the log-in screen in-game to create an account to play Guild Wars. - Infinite - talk 12:27, 11 March 2018 (UTC)

Request unban for User:Konig Des Todes

At the prompting of several others on GWW's Discord, and directed here by User:Greener, I'm requesting a removal of my permaban. I have two reasons for this request:

 1. I hold the view that the permaban by Auron was extreme for a complaint about GW2W administration practices over disputes (which I still feel was a justified view at the time, albeit immature to make the post). I've often felt Auron disliked me, and find his reasoning suspect given that it's only his word (and his word has, unfortunately, been used to villinize me even this week for behavior over a decade old).
 2. More importantly, however, is the fact that I've noticed several issues (and untapped potential) with GWW where improvement is either needed or useful (for example, there is a plethora of dialogue missing from EotN bounty NPCs, that aren't even tagged as stubs). I've notified multiple others about this, even made public requests, requesting that they bring it up to the more active GWW editors in my stead. Either I get told to request a ban lift, or nothing happens at all.

So for the sake of improving things, and hopefully burying an immature past that no longer reflects the present, I am making this formal request for lifting the ban. 35.128.192.3 15:00, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

I'm not against this request, people change, and the hope is that we all change for the better. That said, if you are to be unbanned, then it should (IMO) be with the understanding that any sort of rule breaking would result in the reinstatement of the permanent ban. Just my $0.02. -Rainith (talk) 21:07, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
I want to make everyone aware that the timing of this request does raise an eyebrow for me. Very recently a user with strong history of conflict and arguments involving Konig (User:Santax) has started editing lore articles again. I don't want to believe these events are related, however there is the unfortunate precedent that they may be. While I will personally assume good faith, especially considering Konig's expertise in regards to lore and the readiness to provide sources when questioned, I also want to press upon Konig to acknowledge this caution if the decision for the block to be lifted is reached. - Infinite - talk 00:59, 17 October 2019 (UTC)

(Reset indent) As I had said to you off-wiki, the first step in having us look at your ban would be asking the admin to talk about it; and we have.

While the Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2 wikis were separated many years ago, and there was an attempt to treat them as two independent communities, these two wikis have remained tied together through shared lore and editors. In the past, I have not considered off-wiki issues that users have had in the Guild Wars community because my purview, my jurisdiction, my responsibility, was only the wiki. You and I share both wikis, we share both communities, and I cannot ignore that what happens here will affect what happens there.

If this were a case of a decade's old issue, I would be inclined to say that the past can be put into the past. Unfortunately our past can also catch up to us. While permanently banned here, you continued to edit the wiki – even using another account, User:Konig. Your passion for lore has continued to raise conflicts with others on the Guild Wars 2 wiki, and you have had your share of chances over there. We both know you can still contribute a lot to the Guild Wars community, and I would ask that your focus be on the other wiki whose game is continuing to grow and evolve. Show that even when you disagree you can still get along with other editors. We both know you can, and have always wanted, to do just that. Continue to prove to that you can be a constructive presence in the community, and we can return to this discussion in the future.

Giving you access to the Guild Wars 1 wiki would be a reward in spite of your working around of the ban. The right to edit on this wiki is something you will have to earn through building good will in our shared community. Greener (talk) 14:56, 17 October 2019 (UTC)

Fair and expected. As I said, I was mainly prompting this because it was suggested when I brought up places of improvement to others. The same thing with my "flaunting of the ban", which was far from my intention, as the only reason why I did such was because I was ignored or was even outright told to do things myself despite those people knowing I was banned and was left with the impression that no one, even wiki admins who could see the discussion, cared. If I had intent of rule breaking that I would have made a new account or just done an it as an IP.
@Infinite, this had nothing to do with Santax. 99.203.143.92 17:30, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
Would it be possible to give him editing rights for talk pages? That way he could add stuff indirectly and the few remaining posters could copy it over to the article pages. Not ideal, I know.
Or a tightened Rainith version: Unban him, last chance. One rule broken: Banned again. And no editing of Santax's posts at all (for that he'd need to go to the talk page). Steve1 (talk) 19:15, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
@Konig, I do see how a lack of earlier action to address your edits while banned would seem like tacit allowance on my part. For that, I am sorry. I am far from omniscient, and I did not keep track of your ban here nor recall your edits on User:Konig after the ban had been brought up. I've modified my words above as "flaunting" was inaccurate.
@Steve, unfortunately the options we have on blocking accounts does not allow for that much granularity. Greener (talk) 20:06, 17 October 2019 (UTC)

Chieftain Alex resignation from GWW

Hello, I don't think the community that elected me to sysop is there anymore, what's left feels like it's pulling in a different direction, and I can feel my gw1w activity tailing off. Please remove my sysop and bot rights on this wiki. -Chieftain Alex 19:36, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Not really an admin topic. There seems to be a whole range of ways to show dye previews, so whichever text is readable is fine. Greener (talk) 17:22, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

Location disambiguation template

The "Location disambiguation 2" template seems to be broken, apparently every single explorable area and mission has a wiki page for its WiK and WoC equivalents as well as a landmark with the same name (most are obviously red links). See for example Hell's Precipice. Jeree95 (talk) 09:58, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

Technically it works just fine, but the template isn't called correctly: [1]
Editors can read the usage of the template (and any others) on their respective pages: {{Location disambiguation 2}} - Infinite - talk 10:41, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
The template states "For most articles, autodetection will automatically list all related locations. If not, see the below for examples to manually add, repoint, or ignore articles as needed" indicating that it is supposed to automatically detect which articles exist and which don't. This behavior is broken, and we're either going to need to fix it, or change the call on every page it's used (which appears to be 346 mainspace articles, less 1 Infinite changed). - Tanetris (talk) 16:21, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Have we made any upgrades to the wiki software recently? Looks like whatever it uses to determine if pages exist or not is broken. I'll take a look later and see if I can suss out the problem, since I think all of the people experienced with DPL have noped out. horrible | contribs 18:25, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Hi all. I did just upgrade the wikis Tuesday morning at 3 AM Pacific time with a maintenance and security update from MediaWiki 1.34.2 to 1.34.4, along with all of the relevant updates to extensions, vendor libraries, etc. So it's possible something in there that should have been minor may be causing this. Let me know if you need further backend investigation. Justin Lloyd (talk) 18:31, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Looks like {{Ifexists}} is broken, but I'm not sure why. Rather than fixing it, Might be a good idea to have a bot go through and replace calls to it with the parser version, like I just did for the above template. horrible | contribs 19:40, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Went ahead and updated ifexists with the current version from mediawiki. Should be fixed now. horrible | contribs 19:53, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Admittedly I had missed the time to thoroughly check multiple instances of the template in use and left the answer quickly, mostly to inspire others to hunt for any other broken calls while I was at work. Good to know that this was resolved, though! - Infinite - talk 20:38, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Though now everything is in Category:Pages_with_template_loops - and from what I can tell that's a bad thing. And I'm not sure why it's happening. 🙃 horrible | contribs 20:39, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
I also cannot figure this one out. The problem now is that it is going to slowly fill that category with thousands upon thousands of pages. Should we roll back and wait for input? - Infinite - talk 21:04, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
My best guess at this point is something changed between our last and current dpl versions that changed usermode to output nothing rather than what we expected. I've updated the template to output the page name for pages that exist, and swapped the parameters' order accordingly. Should work now, and hopefully doesn't produce the same cascading "loop" that mediawiki's version seemed to. horrible | contribs 22:52, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
I doubt it was DPL itself as nothing significant changed, here's a diff of the previous and current versions. Justin Lloyd (talk) 08:35, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
Kinda late, gw2wikidiscord brought me here. It was a dpl issue only. Before the update a dpl query showed a warning if no results were found (something like this if I remember correctly: Extension:DynamicPageList (DPL), version [..]: Warning: No results. - copied from a wiki talkpage). This fact was exploited by the template {{ifexists}}. See also the GW2 template ifexists fix preserving the previous functionality that only no results trigger the if part (if they reintroduce the warning then it would still work). --51.68.152.226 18:43, 10 October 2020 (UTC) (a.k.a. gw2:User:Tolkyria)

Another image restoration request

I'd like to have File:Zehtukas_Pack_Pack_Map_Alkali_Pan.jpg restored. The image hopefully shows a precise location, which the Zehtuka's Pack article is currently missing ("near Vah the Crafty" is too vague if one might need over a hundred instances to find one). Once it is restored, I'd like to either link it in the article (after correcting the file name), as it was done for the first location listed there, or at least link it in the talk page. --User ARTy sig.png 22:40, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

So it looks like the file is not restorable. However I took a look at the Zehtuka's Pack page history... Apparently that entry originally said "To the extreme North of where Vah the Crafty is" (with the map), which then got changed to "in the north, near Vah the Crafty" (and removing the link to the map) which appears to have been a misinterpretation, then later changed to "in the south, near Vah the Crafty" (since Vah the Crafty is in the south). So I'd suspect it's in the northern part of that section of non-sulfur ground. Hope that helps (and if you do find it, by all means do get a shot of the map and link it). - Tanetris (talk) 23:35, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for trying. I had looked into the talk pages and history both here and on guildwiki.org and came to a similar conclusion as you did. I had hoped to turn that assumption into certainty though, because apparently it can take hundreds of attempts and being sure where to look exactly would help a great deal. --User ARTy sig.png 23:49, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

Template update request

For {{ArenaNet image}}, Please change NCsoft to NCSoft, as I've updated the article name to reflect the correct capitalization. horrible | contribs 23:23, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Just looking across the internet, I've seen NCSOFT on their website, NCsoft Corporation on the Korean Stock Exchange (you'll have to look it up in the search bar), and NCSoft on on wikipedia. I'm not sure there is a "correct" form out there, though perhaps the pure capitalization style is closest? Greener (talk) 00:24, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
I admit was basing my assumption on the wikipedia article. However, https://us.ncsoft.com/ uses
NCSoft West
to show as NCSoft West across the US and UK sites. I would imagine that the capitalization gets overlooked / not double-checked a lot of the time when doing direct translations. horrible | contribs 01:02, 30 December 2020 (UTC) 01:02, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
