Old gods[edit]

Q: Menzies has been referred to as Balthazar's half-brother and the Lord of Destruction, but he hasn't been explicitly called a god. Is Menzies a god?

Q: During the quest The Apostate, the Apostate mentions that Abaddon supplanted his predecessor. Is this a throwaway line, or are there plans to revisit Abaddon's predecessor?

Q: There are several references to an "Arachnia" being a dead spider god, along with other "deities of insectoid beings," in the description of Arachnia Plateau, the Spider's Heart, and Harvestman's Lair, among others, that were found in the gw.dat. Are these beings canon to lore?

Races and groups[edit]

The Mursaat and The Seer[edit]

Q: Where did the Mursaat come from? They appear to be enemies of both the Gods of Tyria and the Titans, are they on anyone's side, or are they a side unto themselves?

A (partial): They come of Tyrian origins, but left the world thousands of years ago before recently returning.

Mandragors[edit]

Q: They are white and brown, have no eyes, and have both plant and animal characteristics. Are they walking fungi like D&D's Miconids?

Genders in Races[edit]

Q: One of the Dredge Slaves' random quotes is "I wonder what the female Dwarves look like? Do they have beards, too?". In the Secret Lair of the Snowmen, Koris Deeprunner exclaims "what by the bearded Dwarf goddess is this?", and one of Ogden Stonehealer's idle quotes is "How do you know you haven't already met a female dwarf? Eh? Eh?"; do female Dwarves look pretty much the same as male Dwarves?

Q: The Mursaat all have the same, male-looking model. Are the Mursaat we see all male, are they genderless, or was there only one model made for them?

Q: All wardens appear to be male. Are there any female wardens that are not seen?

Oni and Kanaxai[edit]

Q: Is Dauv Merishahl right in his theory that the Oni are twisted humans? If not, what are the Oni's origins, and if so, why are there Oni in Shing Jea and the Echovald Forest, which are so far away from the Jade Sea and the source of the nightmares Dauv says is the Oni's origin?

Q: What is Kanaxai's origin? Why is he in the Deep in the first place?

Seekers[edit]

Q: Who were the seekers? Were they one of the two groups mentioned by Turai Ossa that came after the Elonians?

Huge bones[edit]

Q: Huge bones can be seen in many locations throughout Tyria and Elona. Some of them look like dragon bones. How come they are bigger than Glint, who is said to be the first creature placed on Tyria by the gods? Are they related to the Elder Dragons? Are these the Giganticus Lupicus?

Palawa Joko and Turai Ossa[edit]

Q: Palawa Joko is about 3 meters (9 feet) tall, as is Turai Ossa. Palawa Joko may appear as a special 'guest' in the final round of the Norn Fighting Tournament, and a Ghostly Hero, presumably Turai Ossa, sometimes appears in the fifth round. Turai Ossa also has the Giant Stomp skill in the Bonus Mission Pack. Were they Norn, half-Norn, or half-giant when they were alive?

The Unseen Demon[edit]

Q: Is The Unseen real or just a ruse?

Mallyx[edit]

Q: What was Mallyx doing at the time of the first assault of the Sunspears into the Realm of Torment to kill Abaddon? Why didn't he come forward with his generals sooner to protect his lord?

Humanoid Charr effigies[edit]

Q: The larger Charr effigies clearly depict Titans, however the smaller humanoid effigies are more ambiguous. Are they supposed to depict Sparks of the Titans, Mursaat or the Lich? Or is it something else?

Unknown locations[edit]

Q: Where did the doors in the eastern wall in Tahnnakai Temple lead to?

Q: There are some stairs behind the cracked glowing door in Forum Highlands near the 'Do not touch' in the south side of this area. Where did they lead to?

Addendum: There are stairs much like those in the Forum Highlands in various Heroes' Ascent maps - is there a connection between these?

Q: Where are the lands known as Kree Foothills and Forest of True Sight - both mentioned in the Prophecies manual?

A (partial): In the Factions manual, what was Kree Foothills in the Prophecies manual (Aidan's birthplace) was altered to Borlis Pass.

Q: Does the large pit in the Catacombs lead anywhere?

A: In Annihilator 2: Searing Day, Mhenlo mentions that the Catacombs were built "over a gaping cavern connected to the Underworld". Since these quests are non-canon it is not known whether incidental lore connected to them, such as this, can be considered canon.

Q: Does the large pit in Jaga Moraine lead anywhere?

Q: What causes the darkness of Ullen River that Old Joness talks about?

Unknown structures and artifacts[edit]

Q: Who made the lost temples in many locations like the temple of Balthazar in The Falls or the temple of Grenth in Lornar's Pass?

A (partial): In Guild Wars 2, the temple of Grenth is called gw2:Reaper's Gate and has Deldrimor ruins.

Addendum: The temple in Heroes' Ascent is built in the same style, was it there before the Zaishen Order?

Q: The temple of Lyssa in Mineral Springs have these odd constructs. What are those? And who built them?

Q: What's the origin of the Temple of the Dredge and why were the wardens interested in it?

Q: Who built the Eye of the North?

Q: What is the story behind the pillars found in the beginning of the third level of Cathedral of Flames, which can also be found throughout the Underworld?

Addendum: What do the runes which are on the pillars mean and why are they seen throughout Tyria, the Underworld, and the maps visited in Heroes' Ascent?
Addendum: There are pedestals in the Hall of Judgment which look like pedestals surrounding where the Eye of Janthir is kept during Divinity Coast, and on the pedestals are mursaat runes and a marking also seen on the pillars. Is there a connection between the two or were they merely re-used models?

Q: Are the relics found in Aurio Mines that are said to resemble Deldrimor origin really from the Deldrimor dwarves? If so, how did they get there?

Q: Why are there Ascalonian ruins in the Poisoned Outcrops?

Q: There appears to be a copy of the Cauldron of Cataclysm in the Crystal Overlook, what's the story behind that?

A (partial): The Flame Legion had made multiple gw2:Searing Cauldrons and brought some to Orr. There may be a relation.

Q: In the Maguuma Jungle there are a lot of stone pedestals with three symbols on them. What do they mean and who created them?

Mysterious statues[edit]

Q: In a number of locations, such as the second level of Shards of Orr, The Flight North and the first level of Slavers' Exile, there are statues depicting a man with a winged helmet and a sword. Is there any significance to these statues?

Q: What's the story of the giant statues found throughout the Crystal Desert, such as the Lonely Vigil? Are they connected to stone heads found in the Catacombs which use the same design?

Q: What is the purpose to the statue of Glint? It was stated at PAX 2008 that it'll be revealed in the future, and at PAX 2010, we were told to wait for Edge of Destiny, but it has yet to be revealed.

Wizard Towers[edit]

Q: What is inside the Wizard's Tower in Kessex Peak that Galrath and Justiciar Marron was after?

Q: What is inside the Wizard's Folly Tower in Wizard's Folly?

Addendum: Who built the two towers?

Compass Roses[edit]

Q: In some places like at the end of Ruins of Surmia, in front of the Temple of the Ages and various Krytan resurrection shrines, in a dark corner in Arborstone, many Tyrian outposts and some guild halls, there are what looks like tile compass roses in the ground. Did they ever had a purpose?

Q: There are also three different styles or sizes of the compass roses - is there a point to the differences?

Lost cities[edit]

Q: Who built Moladune and what destroyed it?

Q: Who built Altrumm and what destroyed it?

Dzalana[edit]

Q: What is in Dzalana? Is it the homeland of the harpies and heket? If so, why are they leaving?

Scarab Plague[edit]

Q: What was the cause of the Scarab Plague? Why were scarab eggs able to survive being cooked into bread with the wheat and being digested?
