GW2W - permissions error

I'll post this here as I'm not sure how much viewing the GW2W bug report page gets -- while blocking a vandal, and reverting/deleting his remnants, I kept getting errors. The rollback errors came with the message:

"You do not have permission to do that, for the following reason:

There seems to be a problem with your login session; this action has been canceled as a precaution against session hijacking.
Please hit "back" and reload the page you came from, then try again."

Note: I was using ?bot=1 as described here to prevent the edits from flooding recent changes. I had to re-send some rollbacks and blocks several times in order to get them through, while some worked the first time. (I'm User:Plingggggg on there, by the way.) --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 16:43, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Heya Brains...I'll bring this up in the conversation I'm having right now. Please stand by *static* :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:45, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Heya again Brains. I brought this up, and my contact believes that you were experiencing an issue related to the upgrade issues we had on the third. Are you still noticing this problem? --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 23:06, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Without having more vandalism on a similar scale (e.g. edits to multiple pages and page creations), I can't really replicate that situation; I don't really want to vandalise articles myself :P. I did a couple of minor tests to the sandbox and my userspace and it was fine, but that's really as far as testing can go. If in future I experience this again, I'll be sure to let you know. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 23:51, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

NCsoft Error again - Important!

When trying to restore User talk:Gaile Gray/Support Issues, I get this error:

Bad Input
We’re sorry; the server did not accept your request. Often this is due to too many troublesome characters such as “><|--;=” or other unusual behavior. Try removing troublesome characters or reducing your post size. If you continue to see problems, please contact Customer Support and reference "Issue with official website".

Please fix this, as the page is missing now. I'll try to restore it completely but the personal information remains then (which was the reason why I deleted it). poke | talk 07:13, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Heya Poke...we're talking about this right now. I'll keep you updated! --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:44, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks :) poke | talk 21:48, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Sure, no problem. I have meeting #5 today in about 10 minutes (so I'll be afk yet again for a bit), but both these issues are being looked into by IT. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:51, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Heya again, Poke. I've been asked to see if you had any additional details on this issue, as the team can't see any indications of what's going on in the logs (and can't seem to replicate it). Can you try to break it again in the same way and let us know what you did so we can dig into it deeper? Thanks a ton! --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:57, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I did that and got the error some seconds ago; It happens when I go to the undelete page of the page above, and check all checkboxes except the three from 04:36, 8 October 2008 and later; I doubt it really matters what is checked or if something is unchecked at all, I think the problematic thing is the high number of POST data I send with it. poke | talk 22:03, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
I restored everything now (without clicking any checkbox), as I go to bed now and can't wait any longer. If you need further help, I'll be available again tomorrow ^^ poke | talk 22:41, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Poke! I've passed this information along, and I'll let you know if they need any more :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 23:07, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Okay, a very related issue; the reported error always comes, when I try to send a lot POST data, no matter what and where. I just wanted to edit my watchlist in raw mode; having ~3k lines of data and so a lot POST data when saving results in the said error and prevents the watchlist from being updated. This is very annoying as there is no other way to make such changes to my watchlist entries, and of course there is no other way for the undeletion tool as well (especially in the case above, we were trying to hide very personal stuff but were unable to do that because there is no possibility to delete only single revisions)
So please do something about the server limit, I don't think there is need to actually limit the POST size on a wiki, and if so, please set the limit to a higher value.
Btw. did you get my email, Emily? poke | talk 22:06, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I got your email. I was informed by SecurityOps that the issue came from MediaWiki making use of unusual parameter names for undeletes. We'd already increased the limit of the number of times these parameters are allowed, but your attempts this last time surpassed that limit and therefore caused the lock. I've been told that a request to increase submission parameters has been put in, so that should resolve these issues. I'll follow up on this and make sure it's done. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 22:15, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Emily, that's great :) poke | talk 22:26, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Heya again, Poke. I just got a reply back that said the fix for the first reported issue has already been put in place, so everything should be clear for that. They were able to track down what was causing your watchlist problems, and have put in a request for the setting that was causing your issue to be changed. I'll follow-up again on Monday (which is when the change will be made).
Comically, today is the only time it's happened (according to the logs), and all three times happened to you. It seems like you're the only one utilizing the changelists like this :) You're hardcore! XD --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 23:22, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
So banning Poke fixes all our problems? calor (talk) 23:25, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Blasphemy! Calor, don't talk like that to your wiki-code god! xD
Yay, the restoring did work :) It took quite a while to load, but it worked fine, thank you Emily - and sorry for abusing available wiki features xD The preceding unsigned comment was added by Poke (talk • contribs) at 20:59, October 24, 2008 (UTC).
Just tested again, it seems to be fixed - thanks :) poke | talk 21:07, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Upload error

When I try to upload an image, I get the error "The upload directory (public) is not writable by the webserver." --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 13:06, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Hiya Wyn! I was able to upload an image with no problems, so I haven't been able to replicate this on my end. Would you be able to try again and see if you're still having the issue? Thanks! --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 20:57, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
The issue was resolved quite a while ago, but I can confirm it. When I wanted to fix one of the images, that were corrupt, I tried to revert to another image version and got the same error; but it was probably bound to that time. poke | talk 07:47, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Heya Wongba! Could you let me know what you were doing when you got this error? It would be best if I could provide these details to the team for replication. Thanks! --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 20:59, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
They appear if you just go to any page, and multiple database errors like these cluster together. I haven't had one for about half an hour now, but before then I couldn't view any page because of it. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 21:02, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Brains...I'll include that in this email I'm sending right now. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:05, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
i submitted an edit to a category page when i first saw it. it then affected every viewable page i tried except the "my contributions" page. this went on for awhile, but strangely i could still edit the pages that gave me this error and i could see the update on my contributions page. my initial post was updated in this manner. --VVong|BA 21:41, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Skill Icons

Some of the skill icons are not loading correctly. E.G. warrior skills. Its the same or less for other professions. Dominator Matrix 21:18, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

It turns out the reason why some of the skill icons are not loading. Clicking on them to get a no direct and then once again you get a plesent 404 error. It could be a scewed backup or images just being misplaced. Dominator Matrix 02:05, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Hiya Dominator! I have some unfortunate news regarding the image issues. I'm talking to IT right now about what's going on. We've gone in and checked on the files that are coming up as text links, and it seems like the directories that the particular problem images were in were somehow corrupted. We're currently looking into why this happened and are trying to find ways to restore the lost data (we're aware of all instances of the problems because we can see them in the logs).
I was told that re-uploading the images in question will fix the issue, so you guys should feel free to do that if it's easier. I don't have any ETA on possible restoration, but will let you know as soon as I hear back about this. I'm sorry for the anomaly here, and promise we're trying to piece together what happened. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 02:13, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Reuploading and fixing :). Dominator Matrix 02:15, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
I've left a message for Risky who originally uploaded a lot of the skill icons to see if he still has the image files available. It seems reversions to previous versions work most of the time. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 03:01, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Two questions then, Emily: 1. Wouldn't you be able to get the images from a backup? 2. If not, and we should upload, could you provide us with the list of which images are missing? poke | talk 07:43, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
It appears Sounds Risky is on it as we post poke. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 07:48, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Apparently, not only the skill icons are missing in action... There are other icons as well: [1] for example. I can't see the previous version either. Maybe a list is handy? (at least I know where to post my missing icons then :p) (and now I can kill myself for not checking the url before saving!) --Lady Rhonwyn 12:04, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

The load balancer issues should be resolved. If they pop up again, please let me know. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 19:32, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

dynamic page list

it seems there's something wrong with <dpl>.. It could be a flaw in my coding abilities, but as far as I can remember, it's allways worked correctly for me. Also, strangely enough, other pages using dynamic page lists seem unaffected, so it might just be an issue of the PC I'm on now. WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 20:59, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Protection

Hi Emily, I want to bring this topic up again, as it is still happening and really stopping the wiki for a long while. If you need more information, just protect a page yourself and watch the wiki (=try to access it). poke | talk 07:50, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

GW2W

The Guild Wars 2 Wiki seems to be experiencing problems too, namely the variable thing; see gw2:Image:News page broken.jpg and its talk page. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 18:08, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Hiya Brains! I talked to IT, and they believe that everything should be resolved with this issue. Can you let me know if you're still seeing problems? --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 19:35, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Haven't had any more problems; thanks :). --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 22:44, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Image cache

I hate to bring this up again, but it's really starting to annoy me. Trying to update images is seemingly futile with the cache acting the way it is. A purge or two will fix them, until you go away from the page, and return later. I have cleared my browser cache 3 times in the past 24 hrs, I don't believe it's an issue on my end. I have even gone so far as to delete previous versions, and STILL they show up when I load a page. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 23:45, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Also I keep getting big red images instead of the actual image. For example the gaki picture at the mo for me is just a big red rectangle as is a few other things. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 14:50, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi guys! I'll pass this on again and see if there are still issues with caching. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 19:35, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

We noticed an error with some guild pages which were edited during the time of the bug described above. There are 2 guild pages and 2 guild subpages affected by this: Guild:Guild Of Russian Pathfinders, Guild:The Disciples Of Kashga, Guild:The Disciples Of Kashga/Melanktion Gods and Guild:The Disciples Of Kashga/New Melank. All of them are internally stored in the Main namspace (see also this link). Is it possible to have the IT look this up and fix it directly in the database? We tried different things but we were not able to solve this. Thanks poke | talk 17:50, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Heya Poke! Sure, I'll see if we can resolve this issue for you on our end. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 22:24, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Hey Emily, any news on this? There are now others realizing this error, so it would be fine if it could be fixed somehow. Thanks :) poke | talk 23:58, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Hiya Poke...I brought this up today, and the team will go in and check it out. So hopefully this will be resolved shortly. Sorry for the wait on it :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:27, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm not going to archive this since it doesn't seem to be done yet. I'll send another email about it and follow-up on it again on Monday. Sorry for the delay :( --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 02:53, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Emily, but it doesn't look like it is fixed yet :/ entry 2-4 poke | talk 20:57, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
I suppose that neither I nor my IT contact understand what the problem is. All of the links posted above are in the Guild: namespace. Can you specify what we're looking at again? --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 20:58, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
It seems as if internally in the database the namespace for those four pages is set to "0" instead of "100" which would equal the guild namespace. So someone would have to get into the database and check the stored values there. Hmm, after checking a bit more I found out that they are indeed stored within the guild namespace, but for some reason they are still to be found using the Allpages special page and setting the namespace to 0 (main namespace). I'm not sure why this happens, but maybe the allpages result is cached. But maybe the IT will find something out about this. The article IDs for the pages in question are 118552, 136636, 136011 and 135596. Thanks for your help! poke | talk 21:04, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I found it out now. In the database there are actually two page entries for each of the said pages, one is stored in the guild namespace and one is stored in the main namespace. The IDs I said before are the ones for the guild namespace which are correct. The redundant ones are 136018, 128417, 130646 and 136009. Those have to be deleted. poke | talk 21:10, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Another related thing when the IT is working their way through the database ;) On GW2W there is still one page which is unaccessible due to the interwiki linking system. You can see the entry (which is found by DPL) here; when clicking the link you are redirected to GWW but the article actually exists with that name on GW2W as well and it would be great to have that page deleted as well. Thank you :) poke | talk 21:14, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Poke! I'll pass that along :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 22:00, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

(reset indent) This topic has branched out so many times that I'm afraid to archive it until I know everything has been addressed. I'll follow up and see if this DB stuff was done. Sorry for the delay, guys. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 23:05, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

I think it's safe to archive this Emily. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 21:01, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
It is still not resolved (including the not-interwiki but as interwiki link interpreted page on GW2W); but you are right, it's quite funny how this topic is left here always :D poke | talk 21:08, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
LOL! Yeah, I keep leaving it here because I notice that it's not resolved yet and I hate archiving stuff that isn't resolved because I forget about stuff (too much in my brain as it is). I'm going to take this as another reminder and pass another email on about it :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:11, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Stuck images

There are still images that seem to be 'stuck' in some cache limbo somewhere. Gallery of female ranger Leather Long Coat for example. The correct image appears on the image page, but not on the gallery page. The new image was uploaded in October.... I can upload the new image again, but I would rather like to find out why this is happening and get it fixed. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 19:08, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

RSS/Atom feeds not linked, and empty

I've had the RSS feed of the Recent Changes in my RSS reader, but it delivers an empty page now. The RSS and Atom feeds are not linked from the Toolbox on the recent changes page anymore as well. Is this by choice? I couldn't find mention of this. Thanks in advance! Cavalier 18:00, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the report, Cavalier. I'll pass this along and see if something changed with the feeds after the update. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 18:10, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Hiya again, Cavalier! I passed this feedback along, and found out that the RSS feeds were temporarily disabled for fixes since they were a key culprit in yesterday's wiki instabilities. I've received word that they are back up and running, so please let me know if you run into additional problems. The file you uploaded seems to be empty. This might be due to a typo in the file name. Please check whether you really want to upload this file.

Same problem on my end. Is it possible that the server is full? ^^ poke | talk 23:54, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
(EC)Same thing here (as mentioned here). We get that error message for anything these days - for example, yesterday, when trying to upload an image beyond the 2 mb limit, I got that same error message (instead of the proper one saying that file size is too big). Starting a few hours ago, whenever I try to upload something I get that problem. Arena Net may have locked down the upload feature after a certain someone uploaded hundreds of big files, but hopefully that's something else. Erasculio 23:55, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
no its not. Though that took 10 attempts and a image rename for that to work. Either the server doesn't like new .jpgs or the image are truly empty O.o. Dominator Matrix 04:13, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I found out that this error occurs, when the server's temp directory is full; I think due to our low number of uploads (heh) it is actually possible that this happened. poke | talk 22:47, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Any idea if there's anything we could do to solve it? Erasculio 22:55, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

I was right with my hope. At 0.00 UTC it seemed as if it was cleared (probably automatically) or at least some storage was given free again, as I was able to upload an image at that time (but not before). poke | talk 00:23, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
Oddly enough, it's still not working for me. Perhaps it's a problem now only when uploading big files? Erasculio 11:20, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
It's letting the occasional upload, but in general it's not working for anyone but poke :P --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 12:06, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
Maybe only very old content is deleted, so until there is enough room for animations again, the old animations have to go first (in the temp directory) - at least that is what I think it is :P So in the end, we have to wait for ANet here :/ poke | talk 16:05, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
I have the same problem. Empress Amarox 22:04, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Is Anet aware of this problem? ~ KurdUser Kurd sig.png 22:05, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
ANet does read this page but I think they are busy with holidays atm.. poke | talk 22:08, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

"Created" email on watched page deletion

moved from HELP:WIKI#"Created" email on watched page deletion

Since the mediawiki version update I keep getting email notifications saying "Guild Wars Wiki page X has been created by Y" whenever a page I'm watching is deleted. Surely it should be notifying me they are deleted not created.- TheRave talk (talk) 17:50, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

I think its a general MediaWiki Problem / Bug then a Bug on this Wiki. Even tho I agree it would be fine if that Message would be altered you can easily see that it has been deleted since it also sends you the Edit Summary where it says its been deleted for whatever Reason. Also all those Creations are from Sysops which in addition to the Summary is another indication for the page has been deleted instead of created as said in the mail. --SilentStorm User SilentStorm MySig.png 20:19, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Check your email settings in preferenced. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:58, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Image Redirecting

It doesn't seem to be working, every image I click doesn't redirect like it is supposed to --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 02:51, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

That is known and will be taken care of as soon as ANet is ready. (They already have a fix for it.) poke | talk 03:00, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Sorry for the delayed response, guys! Image redirects are now working properly. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 19:05, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Good to see that the redirect fix worked :) poke | talk 19:25, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
