Featured Articles

Ok, so, Emily proposed featuring articles for guildwars.com here. I think this is an awesome idea! It would be a great way to attract more contributors to the wiki. I would just like us to muster up some general ideas of how we would go about doing this if consensus is reached to implement it. I was thinking of something similar to how we vote in sysops; people would nominate articles and we could take a vote on which article would be the best and we feature the winning article for the next month. Any other ideas? --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 04:52, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Well, would we restrict this to strictly Mainspace articles? --TalkAntioch 06:03, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
I think the only other namespace that could be interesting to be read as featured are guild pages that are very good. Some of them are really good in content, so I wouldn't mind to feature them too. But otherwise, only main space - doesn't make sense to feature policies or bug pages ;P poke | talk 09:41, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
The idea of having featured articles is good, but I would object to put them on the main page as prominently as wikipedia does: Our mainpage space is to valuable, since it doubles as a kind of table of contents. Having a single link might be ok. On namespaces: Everything but user. I doubt we'd ever get a featured bug page, but if we DO have a bug page that is entirely awesome, why not feature it. --Xeeron 13:48, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Why should the user namespace be eliminated? There are some really fabulous userpages out there, and it would be a great way for people to get to know a user they may not otherwise know. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 13:52, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
"Featured User of the Week"? But that's a bit off topic. If the page looks awesome (in many browsers), then we'll go with it. For now, I think we should dip our feet into the water by only using main & guild space pages to see the turn out. Someone should take down the page views before and after it is featured for statistics sake. --TalkAntioch 14:48, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Is there somewhere we can start nominating pages? It's not that I am especially keen to nominate pages, I'm just a little concerned that a lot of work could go into designing a process and then very few pages be suitable for nomination... The content here is very different to the content on Wikipedia, not that many pages are interesting reads and the more complete pages are often rips from official sources, for example we don't write lore ourselves. Create a project page. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 14:54, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Tada! Now maybe I should go do some more work. Misery 15:02, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
By the way, as I am just interested to see what people would even suggest, I have no intention of restricting namespaces for suggestions at the moment, but if people want to do that go and discuss it/do it/whatever, it's a wiki. Misery 15:03, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Guild page clean up tagging

I'm not sure where to put this, so if someone thinks of a better place, please move it.

In going through the guild pages tagged for clean up due to lack of required content, I am finding a fair number of them where the person who created the page just doesn't understand how the infobox works (or wiki code for that matter) and have added all their guild information inside the <!-- Comment --> brackets that are in the template explaining what each parameter is, so it doesn't actually appear on the page itself. I would like to remind people tagging pages, especially those who use GWWT, to please check each page before you tag it. I would also like to remind the sysops deleting to please check before deleting. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 10:19, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I actually find this hapen quite often myself when deleting and where possible I fix the infobox. --Kakarot Talk 10:41, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Sorry if that sounded preachy I just don't have a better way of saying it. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 10:43, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
In my opinion this is also a problem of the preload template.. I think there are too many comments. :/ poke | talk 11:52, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
I understand that as well poke, I just don't know how to fix it, Aiiane tried removing all the comments and using example text instead, and all that did was create a few hundred pages that had nothing but the example text. At least with the comments, we can usually tell if someone has tried to put information in, rather than just saving the pre load as is. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 11:55, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I know, that's why I don't fix it - I just can't :P poke | talk 12:07, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Is there some way that we could offer ppls a choice between (a) editing wikicode themselves or (b) answering a minimum # of questions, which would populate the info box? (After which, they'll be on their own again.) (I know from work xp that it's very hard to design a fullproof template; it ends up taking much less time to use forms than to watch/clean-up for template-usage errors.) adding old update notes.

would it be useful or nice to have a wikifyed archive of the older game updates from before the wiki was made? i found that on the main page they have update notes from may 2005 a index of them can be found here: http://www.guildwars.com/support/gameupdates/updatearchive-index.php this information might also be useful to pepper some of the existing articles?75.165.115.205 21:57, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks poke i didn't know that existed....75.165.115.205 22:08, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

signing problem

help please when i sign on my page its bold and black but when i sign anywehre else its normal what does that mean?Kagomesheartx1991 10:55, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

That is because your signature is a link to your page. If any link is a reference to the page it is on, it is rendered as bold black text rather than as an active link. --mtew 12:19, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
