Blood Washes Blood

Where is the bear spirt in Jaga MAraine... the one who has the blood washes blood quest/mision? --Mx2dmax35 22:15, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

In the center of the abandoned settlement in the southeastern part of the map. You must complete Flames of the Bear Spirit (obtained from Egil Fireteller, slightly northeast of the center of Jaga Moraine). -- Gordon Ecker 03:35, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Winter and Greater Conflagration

ok what would happen if you summoned Winter (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Winter) and Greater Conflagration (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Greater_Conflagration)at the same time and you were in both their ranges? would the damage be cold or fire? OMG i play guild wars 00:26, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Cold? GC converts phisical damage to fire (elemental). Winter converts elemental (in this case, fire) to cold. GC shouldn't be able to convert elemental to fire in this case. Of course, haven't tested, so can't say for sure.--Fighterdoken 00:31, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict)from what getting it would be cold do to that greater conflagration turns physical attacks to fire and fire is an element which will tun it to cold.--話す priestess donut 寄付00:33, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

The names of party members turn gray once they're outside of selection range, which is slightly larger than the radar. -- Gordon Ecker 03:16, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Cheat Engine

I have seen many videos about Guild Wars with people using 'Cheat Engine' to speed up time and make gold.Is this programe illegal to use in GW for making gold and speed up time? if it is i will never use it,but if the speed up one isn't illegal and the gold one is I will only ever use it for the speed, so i can do things quicker if i'm in a rush. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:79.72.113.53 (talk).

Using any third party programs to modify the game are illegal, with a few minor exceptions. I'm pretty sure what you are describing is illegal. Calor Talk 18:03, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't see how it's possible to speed up time in a live multiplayer-only game anyway, but even if it was, it's most likely against the EULA. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 18:06, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
I believe that when you play alone, without any other real players, the game actually switches to a "single player mode" in which the instance is hosted on your computer. So I suppose if thats true, then its possible to devise such an engine, though it would not be legal.--Ryudo 01:29, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm sure they're just speeding up the videos to make long farming runs less boring, and to get under the time and size caps of video hosting sites such as YouTube. I'm pretty sure that instances are never hosted client-side, as lag doesn't seem any less common when henching, and it produce a significant security hole. -- Gordon Ecker 07:39, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

professions....HELP!

i have been playing the prophices campaign and i have noticed that some ppl have there professions as assassians and ritualists and that they have weird dragon masks......how is this possible, i thought u couldn't play as those in the prophices campaign!

once you buy factions, you can start an assassin in cantha, play until you get to Kaineng Center and then ship to Tyria and play the prophecies campaign. as for dragon masks, those are event items which were accessible in the Dragon Festival on Shing Jea. Of course, characters can also take those with them or put them into their storage. - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 17:24, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Loading bar is stuck at 0%

I recently got a new PC and downloaded the client. I am a experienced Guild Wars gamer and PC user. Frequently when my computer is trying to load a new are it gets stuck on )% and will not progress, regardless of how long I leave it. My old computer which my wife uses has no difficulties. I run mine on vista, which was what I thought at first, but lough and behold my friend on XP has the same problem. My router and Firewalls are cleared, my bandwith is whithin appropriate levels, my computer specks are well above recommended requirements, no programs running in the background, and it only happens about 25% of the time. I am completly flabergasted. Any suggestions? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:69.155.40.99 (talk).

hmmm, im not a big computer whiz, but i can reccomend a few things, some of which may help, others may just be my assumptions on what might help.
  1. Try running a virus scan to see if you have one, if so, remove it (obvious)
  2. Try also looking for other problems, like spyware, add-ons, cookies, etc.
  3. if all else fails, try contacting support (sorry i cant remember the link to support)
hope that helped--User Raph Sig2.jpgRaph Talky 01:06, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Its doubtful that a virus or spyware is to blame. Guild Wars runs on a rarely used port, so the odds that you have a virus that targets said port is very small, even smaller that it would be causing an issue such as this. Still, virus/spyware protection is always a good thing.
Your problem sounds like DNS errors to me, and given what you have checked, im guessing the problem is probably via your ISP. How recently is "recently"? And does your friend have the same internet provider as you? If its just been in the past few days, and he/she does have the same provider, then the only thing I can suggest doing is repairing the connection (via the network connections menu). It maybe just be your provider having issues though.--Ryudo 01:25, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
You could have a corrupted Gw.dat file (or you could not). If you have time to download the full file (between 3-4 GB I think), delete it from your Guild Wars directory, then run the game with the -image flag, which will pre-download all the content before you access it. Alternatively, install from disc or grab a friend's DAT file that you know works, and then run the -image flag; both of these methods decrease the download time. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 22:57, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Rather than using the -image switch and downloading everything again, you could use -repair to attempt to, well, repair your GW.dat file (this also takes a while but doesn't use any bandwidth). --89.242.170.224 01:47, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Pets

How can I aqure a pet, after the entery quest for pets. I'M haveing truble finding an animal that does not attack. Every time I try to charm an animal it does not work.--Fye norman 00:25, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

All charmable animals will attack you when you try to charm them. Just stay alive while you end casting the spell (don't move), and you will be a ble to tame the pet. Only bears in pre-searing require an aditional trick.--Fighterdoken 00:31, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
In addition to Fighterdoken's advice, if you have any heroes with you, I suggest flagging them away, or they will try and kill the animal once you begin using Charm Animal and it becomes hostile. Kokuou 00:32, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
The animals that you can charm as pets have their names in green, instead of red. Make sure that you do not already have an animal charmed; if you do, you can get rid of it by giving it to a pet tamer. You'll find a list of pet tamers on the page. Also, you can check out this page for exactly what animals you can tame. Hope that helps! MiraLantis 00:34, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Usually, setting heroes to passive also works most of the time, however heroes will still use a few offensive skills, such as Balthazar's Aura, Vengeful Weapon and Pain, while they're set to passive. -- Gordon Ecker 00:51, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Short answer: no. Support is the way to go. Speed multiplier

Does the attack speed multiplier stack for skills such as Heket's Rampage and Rampage as One when used simultaneously? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:70.190.121.56 (talk).

yes and no, there's a limit in stacking for such things. the "cap" for ias is 33%, so if you use both simulaneously, you will still only attack 33% faster. however, a single skill could still break this rule. For example, the cap for movement speed is 33%, but with Dash, you are able to run 50% faster. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 00:35, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Reinstall Grapics Driver? RT | Talk 11:05, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Most obvious first option is to check your gfx drivers are uptodate.
Try a one-time run of GW with -image option to force download of any missing info/textures etc.
Worst case, but very last option: Uninstall GW, then re-install and do the above to be certain of getting a full dat file. --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 13:07, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
In towns and outposts, all players' armour besides your own is displayed at a lower resolution be default, there is no way to increase this. In explorable areas, armour is displayed at full rez. Look carefully in a town and see if the NPCs are at full rez, and then take a real player outside and see if their armour is full rez. If both of these are true, then everything is normal. If you are seeing lower quality armour on another player in an explorable area, then something is wrong. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 13:26, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
You can use User:Kuntz/KSMod to have the game load high def graphics for all players in town too. Not recommended on crappier systems. Note that you can disable the sound modification in the configuration file of the mod if you don't like it. -- Gem (gem / talk) 22:16, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Screen turns black when starting Guild Wars

Hi. I recently changed my os from Windows XP to Linux Ubuntu 7.10. Skill Alterations

Sorry, not sure where to post this, but i do feel that something needs to be said. After spending many hours reading through description of skills, trying different combination, spending time, gold and effect bring together a build of your own. To finally get to a build that you are happy with, only to have it underminded by arenanet making changes to certain skills. Surely, if someone comes up with an unstopable build, thats good on their part. After all the same skills are available to all to try. Why does arenanet feel that they have to pick apart this builds. To relevel the playing field? Sorry but you are just making that one part of the game, that of finding the right build, totally frustrating. legendary survivor

I've been trying to get this title for a while with the kilroy's punchout extravaganza method, however once in a while my internet connection slows down or stops and the game stops. I've tried quickly exiting guild wars and ive even hit the power button on my computer right when it happens, but each time i log back on it says i died. This is about the 6th time i have had to restart the title. Should i just give up?

Short answer:Yes. It's not worth the effort imo. Long answer: That's because in case of a lag, the server takes some time to realize you're offline, and in the meantime you can die. This is the biggest threat to survivor candidates, so you'll have to look for a way where this threat cannot harm you. - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 22:58, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

We have two PCs here side by side, and 3 accounts, and of course we've tried it. When I was logged on on PC1 and logged into the same account on PC2, the session on PC1 got disconnected. (I wasn't banned for trying that once or twice, but your mileage may vary. Also, we use the same router (= IP address) for both PCs). There is no problem switching PCs and accounts around, so you can have your boyfriend access your account when you're not connected. However, giving him your account information means that you trust he doesn't do bad things to your account if you break up; I don't believe ANet support is going to help you if he logs into your account and just destroys or gives away everything in it. I think on the whole you'll be better off by having him teach you what it is you want to do on your account. (mendel 84.128.205.35 17:27, 24 March 2008 (UTC))

Very Wierd Weapons

sword under weapon spell

Lately I've noticed that my melee character's weapon occasionally changes to something odd. My warrior (when holding the Glacial Blade) gets a larger, double blade coloured grey with the ice effect that the Glacial Blade has. My Dervish gets something similar when he's holding a Droknar's Scythe which turns into a rounded scythe that splits into two at the end, I failed to cap a screenshot of the scythe, but I got one of the sword if people are interested. After about 2 seconds, the blade/scythe returns to normal. Any ideas as to what these weapons are or why they appear? 202.124.127.38 10:11, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Achievements registered at the HoM

At which point in time do achievements that are registered in the HoM get 'captured' for migration to GW2? Is this an ongoing process that was put into effect with the release of GWEN or will it be some future, yet to be determined date closer to the release of GW2?

Is it safe to delete a GW1 character after creating his/her HoM? 136.8.1.100 13:56, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't think we know yet, but I wouldn't delete the char if he/she has a lot of stuff in the HoM--The Forsaken One 15:43, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Too late. Ah well, that rainbow phoenix was eating me out of house and home anyway. The thing is though, when you consider the already published lore leading up to GW2... somehow we have to bridge a couple of centuries. Can't realy expect my characters to hang around for that long; and I'd rather their demise be at a time of my choosing than at the hands of an ANET programmer.136.8.1.100 06:31, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Ooh, unless... there's a suitably impressive Armageddon coming?? Bring on the Apocalypse! 136.8.1.100 06:43, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Pretty sure that nothing will be recorded for GW2 until near release at the earliest, more likely not until after release, when you would be able to link/merge/whatever the 2 games together. Deleting any character now just means you don't have that character anymore, and all the items/titles/etc that were for that character will be gone. Besides, GW isn't getting shut down after GW2 is released, last I heard. So they're still alive in that game even if there's a new one hundreds of years later where they are "dead". Because names of characters will be reserved for use on the sequel too.
Basically: Deleting is a bad idea right now.
Nope GW won't be shut down, but there will be a cut-off date, beyond which achievements will no longer carry over (according to recent interview) and that will be a death of sorts. I looked forward to GWEN with great anticipation, because at long last I could retire my overworked characters and be done with GW. Now it seems I have no choice but to linger on in some quasi limbo for 18+ months. Sure, I don't have to play 'em, but as long as they're sitting there on my login screen, chances are I will. 136.8.1.100 10:09, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

That would have been a Windows message. You have a problem somewhere with your graphics, it could be hardware, software, or drivers. The first step is to determine which graphics card/chip you have, and download and install the latest drivers for it. In most cases, that will fix it. If it doesn't, you need to investigate further. Depends on the chant. Some Chants apply to Party Members; i.e., they won't affect anything else. Anthem of Flame is an example of that. Some other ones do work; the list is only a few, and most of them will have no effect (minions don't use attack skills)... but they should trigger Leadership. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 08:44, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Progress

Upon completing the transition quest into another campaign, does progress in the campaign which one has just left remain intact or is it removed. Also is it possible to return to this first campaign again in the future to continue with it OR can one run/play two campaigns silmutaneously on the same character. E.g Can one character actively use features/do missions/do quests etc from 2 separate campaigns.

e.g Having completed Mhenlo's request would you have to abandon all Prophecies progress or could you have progress and play both Factions and Prophecies at the same time?? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:172.203.144.253 (talk).

Progress is never lost. And you can play through any campaign you own at any time once you've unlocked travel to it. So yes, you can go back and forth between continents, and yes, you can progress through the storyline of two campaigns at the same time. Calor Talk 19:15, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

If you can answer any or all of these questions I would greatly appreciate the help. Please send answers to my email at [email removed] ty Sincerely Spirit of an Eagle--Skinny B itch 13:09, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Funnily enough, the answer to all 3 questions is "NO". The Kurzick/Luxon faction business was introduced well after GW was released and has no bearing on Guild Halls. You do not have to be a PvPer to get a hall. I don't think you need a hall to recruit players, but you do obviously need to have formed a guild ;-) The Guild Hall article can probably provide more information on aquiring a guild hall. --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 13:13, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

I am not sure about a Nightfall character as I bought the first edition of Guild wars about 2 years ago (new lady in my life took me away from it for 2 years) and just recently bought Nightfall,Factions and Eye of the North and then loaded these on my computer.I decided to add a new character as a Monk / Mesmer so I suppose I am walking the line of(Oh Crap)being a Newbie again. My last character was/is a Warrior/Monk.

So as to being or changing to a Nightfall character(any value) I admit to being ignorant..any advice will be appreciated. Thank you for your quick and accurate response.

Yes, if you abandon a quest, you can get it back the same way you got it the first time around. You won't lose the ability to finish the quest. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 11:03, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Tutorial

I just started playing Guild Wars about two hours ago. I've created a character, done some missions, got some gold, got some stuff (I'm at level 4). Now I'm back in the main city and I'd like to sell some stuff, get some more gold, buy some stuff, and customize my avatar. I'm unfamiliar with this type of game so I'm pretty confused. Is there a basic tutorial that I could access to help me make sense of the vast amount of information being thrown at this poor, unfortunate newbie?--Robert Hayhurst 22:26, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

well it depends on what campaign do you have(Prophecies,Factions or Nightfall)?--The Forsaken One 23:57, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
To sell stuff, talk to a Merchant. — Eloc 01:14, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
If you follow the storyline and take all the quests you can find, the early stages of the game to a pretty good job of explaining the basics to you. Factions probably has the steepest learning curve, Nightfall is average, Prophecies explains less and is more open-ended, but you have much longer to learn too. Another suggestion is to ask your fellow players. Hollering out in the All Chat (please don't spam) may get you flamed a bit for being new, but it also often results in answers as well. Believe it or not, there are many experienced players who hang around early areas specifically to help people out. In addition, if you can find a guild that truly is helpful, that will improve your chances of success immensely.User Scion Of Erixalimar SigIcon.png ~Scion~ (talk | contribs) 18:49, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Pre-searing skills

So where can I find a list of skills obtainable in pre-searing Ascalon? (sorry, i forgot to sign...) --Horsedrowner 13:43, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

List of pre-Searing skills would be a good start. ;) — Galil Talk page 13:10, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
lol I must have been blind :P --Horsedrowner 13:44, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Is there a list of NPC's which give you skills as rewards? --Horsedrowner 14:11, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Not AFAIK, no. Your best bet would be to go to the list of skill quests and look through the tables for "Pre-Searing Ascalon" and visit the individual quest pages. — Galil Talk page 14:33, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
