Once again however, your signature needs to at the bare minimum resemble your username. We've had this discussion repeatedly, that signatures have a function that outweighs the "creativeness" factor, and that is to let people know who is saying what, and give them an easy way to contact you. So... it needs to at least contain a recognizable version of your username. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 21:50, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
BTW... if your username was Four Tildes that would be a perfectly acceptable signature :P -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 21:54, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

I don't know why, but after subst'ing User:Balistic/sig.js, the 5 tildes turn out with no effect. –User Balistic B d-dark.pngalistic 23:27, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

because it's a .js page you don't need the onlyinclude tags (you can just have 5 ~'s (i think)). alternatively you can use {{subst:LOCALTIME}} (and localday and month as well and stick a (UTC) on the end =p) ~ PheNaxKian User PheNaxKian sig.jpg 23:50, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

then just remove the tildes (~), inlcudeonly and the closing span tag on the .js page. Then in prefrences put:

I have around 17-18 web browser bookmarks - all are dead links now?

I have book marked many guild wars official wiki pages, and now they do not work - dead link or not found errors on my browsers. I have to use GW's WIKIA, to sub link to an "official wiki" web page and then search for my information that way. Obviously I can pull some of the official links, and can back track to find pages- but this is a frustrating process. Again, none of my bookmarked pages work any longer that were linked via the official wiki. What has happened, and how do I fix the bookmarks I have created to make them work again? this was my home page: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page and it doesn't work either :( ty cecil 04:05, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

wikEd

Anyone want to scour through my monobook.js file to see why wikEd isn't working for me? Does it even work on this wiki? -- My Talk Lacky 11:14, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

My suggestion would be to strip it clean, and add stuff one at a time to make sure each works before adding another. You have things that are unnecessary, like the automatic patrol script.. that only works if you are a sysop, and the MyWiki Links, is unnecessary if you are using GWWT (which seems to have way more code than is necessary) since poke created a cleaner code to add custom links in your nav portlet. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 12:56, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
I second that, you have a lot junk in there (GWWT automaticPatrol for example, or the custom deletion reasons; you are not a sysop...). You should really remove everything and then add one after another (but only those you really need). poke | talk 18:10, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
I didn't realise they actually deleted the page (if sysop), I thought they were just tags like GWWT. At any rate, I shall try to do what you suggested. EDIT: Got it working, ended up just using a Greasemonkey script. -- My Talk Lacky 02:44, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

And while this was unforeseen, I made not a few edits and suggestions, forming a number of small ties with the users here on the Wiki, which I have come to retrospectively appreciate - as I've seen what a powerful tool this community can be. This said, I am wondering if I am allowed to track down my past edits at an IP address and affix my name to them or must they forever remain numbers and dots? My guild page says quote, "This page is about a historical player guild. Using {{ #switch }} command

I am trying to set up a template with a #switch command which alters information shown. All the #switch commands I've seen just change colors, I would like to change the text displayed. Can somebody show me the format to do this please? --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 09:16, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

I think you are going to have to be more precise than that. Backsword 09:21, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Combining templates

So, when you are using a template, you set the parameters of that template on the page. Now, if I am using a template WITHIN another template, is it possible to set the parameters of the INCLUDED template WITHIN the main template? For example, I have template A and template B. I am setting up template A as my main template. For convenience, I have included within template A, another template, template B, which, of course, has more parameters, lets call them X, Y, Z. Is it possible to set the template B parameters, X, Y, Z while editing template A? --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 09:25, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, that should be possible. I believe I've done something like that while making my tabs template. Just fill out the template B parameters within the Template A code. You can even carry over parameters if you use another parameter to fill it in, like this: {{Template B|X=static value|Y={{{new parameter}}}}}. If you include that in Template A, you can set Template B's Y parameter by setting in Template A's 'new parameter'. WhyUser talk:Why 13:21, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
I don't think that's going to work in my case, or I'm misunderstanding you; perhaps you could offer your expertise? My above question is actually linked to this one. Either one of these will work for what I'm trying to accomplish. What I'm trying to do is set up a minipets display and checklist on my userpage here, I've got all the minipets organized according to year and/or type in different tabs. These tabs are linked to this template. I am trying to have the template coded so that on the minipet display tabs page, all you have to do is set the 'which year of minipet group' parameter, and it will display those minipets. Like this: {{ #switch: {{{year}}}| 1=1st year pets | 2=2nd year pets, etc. The difficulty I am having is putting the checklist part on the same template, since the checklist coding acts as a different template. I would like to be able to set the year and yes/no parameters on the same tabs page, ie: |year=1 |Fungal Wallow=yes |Hydra=no or |year=2 |Aatxe=yes |Fire Imp=no, etc.
I have tried 2 different methods to try to accomplish this, the first, with raw coding on the template page. It worked, but I must not have had the coding format correct; it displayed the undesirable coding symbols/punctuation, but if I removed those, then it would no longer work. The second method I tried was to create a secondary template with the same coding and access the secondary template from the first. But then I am unable to set the parameters of the secondary template on the tabs page. Any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated. If you could show me the correct coding and/or the correct format, or can show me a help page that shows how to do this, I would be very grateful. Thanks! --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 21:46, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
you can have it so you have template A use template B. you can have parameters that you supplied to template A be used in template B (so you can have template 1 for template A be supplied to itself in template B):
Template B code:
blah blah blah {{{1|}}} some more blah.

Template A code:
blah blah {{Template:B|{{{1|}}}}}
in the above example when you do {{Template:A|blah}} blah will get passed to template B's 1st parameter. ~ PheNaxKian User PheNaxKian sig.jpg 21:57, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Ok! I think I got it! Thanks guys! --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 22:54, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

It's a script. I haven't read the code but I assume it queries the server and counts the number of contributions on each page, which is why it takes a while to load. Easiest thing to do is keep track of it yourself (using the script) and post the stats on your page, as I suggested. –Jette 21:01, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Wiki Account Question

moved from Guild Wars Wiki:Admin noticeboard

Hope this is in the right place: I set up a User account for myself here back in '07, and have gone on far too long without using it, and can no longer remember the password I used to set it up. Further, when I did set it up, I neglected to include an email contact with it. Any chance I can get the account back (IE: have a password reset) or am I out of luck? I am willing to meet someone in game, since the character page linked to my User is a character I still use, which should, (I think) verify that I am who I say I am in regard to the account. Widgets!

Hello!

My name is Toulin Shanno (in Guild Wars), and I would like to suggest to the wiki, to make some widgets for guild forums and other online websites related to Guild Wars. I think I might be a bit crazy in demands here, but just bear with me.

1. Skill bar widget! Basically, a skill bar like the one used ingame, with links (or popups) of the skills in the skill bar, along with an apparatus to select specific skills before generating the code, main/secondary profession, and amount of attribute points in each attribute. However, users can toggle the ingame rules regarding types of skills. Maybe people want to fantasize having multiple elite skills, or will come up with a build idea, mixing skills from several professions into one skill bar. I know ctrl+mouse on the skill bar in game, makes a link in the chat, opening a little window with said information condensed into a thin frame. Since this wiki is the official one, I think it wouldn't be too hard to get that window, and make it a widget.

In this way, people can plan strategies in the forum, without having to link to several tabs of the wiki (or the other ones) to explain one skill bar. PvP and PvE planning can move along a little more fluidly.

2. calculators for armor ratings, based on a select set of armor, and then some...widget. Gear (Armor and Bonuses) Widget. I guess the widget can be based off of the anonymous character in the inventory window, with armor, etc, but this widget (I guess it can be called a calculator) generates effected health/mana regeneration chevrons (are they chevrons?), armor rating for the various types of damage, attribute points, etc, from the worn armor, and the various augmentations on the armor.

This allows greater customization of planning (for PvE or PvP), and cuts back major amounts of linking to the wiki in a guild forum. People know exactly what health and mana and armor rating others have, with an attractive (but uncluttered) window.

that's all the ones I can think of right now. Thanks for reading through the verbose, haha!

so, what do you all think?

Someone (I want to say Ensign but I'm not sure) made an armor calculator years ago, it should be available somewhere on Guru. The other thing is available on PvX. –Jette 00:21, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

You mean when you press F10 in-game? Good catch. Nothing we (players) can do about it directly besides notifying a developer though. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 23:29, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Henchment locations

I was trying to edit the location of Aeson when I came across a problem. I am unsure of how to properly document the towns that he is located in, on Shing Jea Island and in the Jade Sea, using the NPC location template. As it stands, he does not belong to the appropriate categories for the towns. G R E E N E R 10:13, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Henchmen (and Kurz/Lux res shrine NPCs) are pretty inconsistent about whether they list every location, or just say "all locations in ____" when the NPC is in all or most areas of a region. Mhenlo has every single location listed, and it's quite long, so I'd just add all of them. Maybe we could implement a show/hide system for such cases. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 14:24, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
I'll try out a couple of things when I get back. And yes, I see how long it can get :( G R E E N E R 16:46, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Linking accounts

can i link my gw account to gw wiki and if i can how do i do it?--Wozzaa 14:22, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

There isn't any linking from the game account to a wiki account. You can however register as a user (which I noticed you just did) and start editing your userpage or help with projects on the wiki. -- Arduin talk 14:28, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Lining up different sized tables within a table

I am having lots of trouble getting this page all lined up the way I want. I have tables of various sizes all set up on the page, and the main table (the table all of the other tables are displayed in) is lining everything up according to the width of the widest cell in that column. This is causing lots of space between tables of smaller width. I have tried using the colspan code on the larger tables to reduce the space between the smaller tables, but then this causes an additional problem: there ends up being so many colspan="2" codes that column #2 ends up being mostly empty space causing column #3 to start too far to the right. How can I set the width between each table to a fixed number? So that no matter how wide each table is, the next consecutive table will start the same distance from the previous table, regardless? --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 19:07, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

You could simply combine all tables into a huge one for all heroes. As you don't use border colors, this wouldn't be too hard. I can provide an example later if you need. poke | talk 06:38, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Yes please. I don't quite understand what you mean, so if you could please show me an example, that would be great. Thanks. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 13:51, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

blue pill spam

moved from Talk:The Titan Source#blue pill spam

please let me know if anyone else sees some viagra and pills links on this wiki page i don't know how to delete them and i can't see them in edit page link it might be just me here i might have a virus...95.180.76.188 00:18, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Haha, you scared the bejeebus out of me for a second. A spam vandal hit the necromancer template ({{N}}), and that is why the links were displayed on this page. The vandalism was fixed, but the server cache still needs to catch up (since that template is used quite a lot).
Give it a couple hours and the links will dissapear (alternatively, click on the clock while watching the page, and that will force a cache reset).--Fighterdoken 00:59, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Why aren't those templates protected, anyway? –Jette 01:29, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Looks like they are now (at least the few I checked). Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 02:22, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Poke didn't want them protected back when this was first discussed. After a few attempts, people just stopped trying...--Fighterdoken 05:05, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Well, I don't want them protected either, protection is considered harmful. I guess screwing up the cache and vandalizing the entire wiki at once is considered worse, though. –Jette 05:13, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Exporting from Excel

I have a table which I wanted to export from excel, and doing it via the .htm option was way too big. Is there another format I should look for which may fit better? G R E E N E R 04:37, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Screenshot the table and upload it as a png file instead of trying to export it. Or search for a HTML -> wiki conversion tool, there's probably one out there somewhere. There might even be a plugin for excel. –Jette 05:17, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Perfect, thanks! All I needed was those few key words to type into google, and I got this! G R E E N E R 05:20, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
For the code it generates to work correctly here, replace his {{table}} with {{STDT}}. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 08:42, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Mobile version of Guild Wars Wiki

Is there a a mobile version of the wiki? If so how is it accessed? If not what are the chances of setting on up in a similar style to wikipedia.- TheRave talk (talk) 17:53, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

There is no mobile GWW, GWW2, Guild Wars Site/Guild Wars 2 site. I think its slim, as Anet is low on devs. --Dominator Matrix 06:14, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
An easy work-around to this problem is simply to utilize google's "mobilizer", which can convert virtually any website into a format that's easier for a mobile browser to manage. 66.222.164.14 06:17, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Post Database move performance

Since the recent data center move and subsequent wiki database reconfiguration, performance has been poor. Text can take over a minute to load and images even longer.

I have reset my modem, my browser, used an alternate browser, and rebooted the PC. I get good ping from wiki.guildwars.com. I have submitted a ticket to support and thought it worth mentioning in case others were experiencing similar delays. (Usually, it's the original wiki that has these types of delays because wikia can't keep up with its own growth).  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 23:38, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

It's been happening to me too. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it takes several minutes per page. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 23:58, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Agreed performance is less than admirable.--The Emmisary 23:59, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm finding I get up to a few minutes between loads, these days, and sometimes the site offers to send me a file, rather than a page. Any ideas why? G R E E N E R 01:01, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Making a Guildwars wiki page for a guild

how do i make one? do i just click on "My talk" and put the info there? or do i have to delete this account and make an actual guild name account thing and then have that be the page? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:XAnonymousx (talk).

Easiest way: Go in-game, press F10, click on your guild's name in the help window, and you will be directed to the part of the wiki where your guild page is supposed to be located. If not already created by someone else, you can create it there.
Also worth reading GWW:GUILD and GWW:GUILDS while you are around here.--Fighterdoken 07:05, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Usermerge? idk what else to call it

today, in an effort to further shorten my signature, i attempted to register User:Scythe, sadly i found out that the user is already registered. Upon investigation, i found that the user is registered, has made 0 contributions and has no talk page. can anything be done here? thanks in advance. — Scythe 1:05, 27 Aug 2010 (UTC)

I'm sure they could be merged, as I don't believe usermerge requires the passwords of either account. But it's unlikely you could convince someone to merge the two without proving that you are the owner of both accounts. At best, you could try to contact the other person via e-mail and convince them to give you their account. Otherwise, you could make a redirect at that user's page and hope nobody notices. If the person has never made a contribution, chances are you could say it's yours and nobody would care. Although I guess that wouldn't work now that you've gone and posted here, would it? –Jette 22:36, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
Usermerge (at least on GWW) says that you have to prove ownership of both accounts (by logging in and signing as both accounts to say it's you). If you don't own the second account you won't get a merge. If you're desperate to have your username as Scythe, do as Jette suggested, and contact the other user, and if they say it's OK ask them to sign and say it's OK. ~ PheNaxKian talk 11:59, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
i guess ill email them :| — Scythe 14:38, 29 Aug 2010 (UTC)
they didnt register an email address, im betting its some1 who did it to spite me when i changed my sig over =.= — Scythe 14:43, 29 Aug 2010 (UTC)
Note that based on the lack of a user creation log entry, the user was registered before the user creation log was implemented (which was quite awhile ago now. Compare to your own). As in Scythe existed first. And no, you can't just claim their account as your own just because they don't edit. - Tanetris 15:24, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

guild page

how do i delete my guild page so i can start all over?--96.245.3.139 03:02, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Did you misspell the name of the page? Did you mistype the information on the guild page? Did you start a new guild altogether and no longer have the old guild? G R E E N E R 03:16, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
If it's for the same guild, simply correct the information. If it's for a new guild create a new page using the F10 game menu. If the old guild has been disbanded, it should be archived as historical. We generally don't delete guild pages. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 03:19, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
