List of pages created

Is there a way to see a list of pages that a user has created? I know I could ctrl+f on user contributions, but that's not really a list and is cumbersome. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 18:04, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

I think Special:NewPages may be what you're looking for. G R E E N E R 19:50, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
theres an index thing that does something like "find all pages in user's subspace" i remember seeing 1 sometime, will look. — Scythe 20:25, 2 Sep 2010 (UTC)
Greener - There's a time cutoff, unfortunately. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 20:26, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Do you mean pages in their user space, or pages overall? ShadowRunner 20:27, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Overall. But if there's a way to see just userspace pages, that would be better than nothing. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 20:30, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
found it just insert a username. — Scythe 20:31, 2 Sep 2010 (UTC)
That's helpful for userspace pages, at least. Thanks. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 23:37, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Actually, the link that Greener first provided you with allows you to choose not only the namespace, but also the username. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 11:26, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

guild page being historical

I have created a wiki page for my guild, but after about a year of it not being update or edited, it has been labeled "Historical". We have been an active guild despite the wiki updates. I have decided to create a new wiki page for the guild since the Historical wiki page is uneditable. After I have completed that, old links from other wikis i.e ones from our alliance's wiki page or guild members are directed to the old "historical" wiki. Is there a way to fix this? Or delete the historical wiki and replace it with the new.--Victor Wood 04:38, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

I have tagged the historical page with a merge request. You should have simply used the move tab at the top to move it back to active status as the Guild page policy indicates. The two pages will be merged with your most recent edits kept as the current version. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 05:08, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Green weapon listing in wiki

I'm concerned that a Shield of the condemned -warrior strenght req does not exist. Constantly hearing that it does not drop. I need confirmation on that so i can move on to the next green weapon. Before anyone Quotes Gw wiki green weapon site . I know it's listed but i want be sure beyond a doubt it is real. Unoffical Gw sites have no record of it just the other three shields.71.1.221.195 23:36, 5 September 2010 (UTC)--71.1.221.195 23:36, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

You have to remember that we are not Anet, we are only players. As such, the information we put here is generally only as good as its contributors. Wyn tends to have the pulse of the game, so my preference is to lean towards her scepticism. It may just be the remnants of some vandalism. If you are looking for a straight answer, I would hesitantly suggest asking Feedback talk:Emily Diehl, though I do not know when you may get a response. G R E E N E R 05:14, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
None of the major auction sites have a confirmed sale. Neither of the two most prominent wikis have a confirmed sighting. No one posting has ever heard of one being for sale. In the unlikely event it's possible to get one, how are you going to farm for it? I think you can safely move forward in the knowledge that Guild Wars Beyond is more likely to add a new green than that this particular one is going to be found by anyone.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 07:13, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Thank you both for your timely responses. The links you have posted have somewhat brought some closure to the issue. In reponse to the question Brought forth by MR Ford. I would farm it the same as i would any boss. Continuously until it drops. And to the statement By Greener...i very much remember that Anet has no presense in this log/blog/faq/link - But i am very glad that you and your team are providing this service to the Gw players. As for the reason For this intital inquirey(working without spellcheck forgive me ) is that trying to collect everysingle green in the game and now that im down to 14 left to get. Can someone

please explain why The Scythe Has Fallen hasn't been permabanned yet? He has admitted to purposefully causing drama and is probably the most insistent (and terrible) troll the wiki has at the moment. There's absolutely no reason to keep him around, he's not funny like, say, Cursed Angel, and his work on the assassin skill animations was a joke. Also, his bans haven't been scaled correctly. Shouldn't he have been banned for a month after his two-week ban? If anyone can give me a really valid reason why he has not been permabanned already, I would really appreciate it. The drama he causes is not worth whatever the hell it is he does. 207.182.131.34 21:50, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

No one has bothered, yet. - Mini Me 21:58, 10 September, 2010 (UTC)
GWW:NPA IP, im working on a redoux to my animations, just fine tuning some things. — Scythe 22:08, 10 Sep 2010 (UTC)
There is no personal attack there. "He [...] is probably the most insistent (and terrible) troll the wiki has at this moment" might have qualified, except that you've already stated that you've taken actions with the intent of generating an emotional response (i.e. trolling).
I think you may be looking for GWW:BTTHRT; it's a common mistake. — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 22:21, 10 Sep 2010 (UTC)
actually, calling me + my work a joke is PA, fyi. Also, because i believe that i am not a troll, i find it hard to believe that at any point i admitted i was one. — Scythe 22:27, 10 Sep 2010 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) That's not the immediate issue here. The issue is that you have said you're trying to cause drama and have been blocked for doing so. The issue is that despite you having been blocked and come back you continue to do the same thing. You refuse to back down until Auron resigns [1] [2] which is a damn stupid move, since all saying that does is provide a stalemate of sheer pointlessness. Also, gj on bypassing 99% of the above comment by referring to a PA that doesn't exist. 98.130.2.68 22:29, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Regarding 'correct scaling' of bans: Ban length is not set on a fixed scale. Generally, similar severity of actions will lead to subsequent bans of the next step up along MediaWiki's block length (3 days to 1 week to 2 weeks to 1 month, etc), but it's not set in stone. More severe actions can get steps skipped, and less severe ones can stay at the same step or even go down. It's ultimately up to the blocking admin and what he/she feels appropriate.
Everyone please note that this is not the place to air grievances with each other. - Tanetris 22:58, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for explaining that, Tanetris. I still don't see why Scythe is still around though. He reminds me of Ariyen, causing drama, getting blocked, causing drama, getting blocked. In Ariyen's case, Pling (?) did the right thing and permabanned her. A sysop really needs to do the same here, and if one doesn't I will probably take it to ArbComm, because this has gone on long enough. 207.182.131.34 02:09, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Pseudo internal links?

Where can I find a list of prefixes that can transform double (square) brackets to look like internal links? e.g. [[wikipedia:URL|URL]] → URL as opposed to [http://wikipedia.com/wiki/url URL] → URL Thanks  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 23:19, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

These are called interwiki links (and their colour is slightly different to internal links). I'm not sure if there's a list somewhere, but gw2:Main Page, wikimedia:Main Page, commons:Main Page, wiktionary:Main Page, and wikia:c:guildwars:Main Page are some. It's also possible to use class="plainlinks" to get the same appearance. -- pling User Pling sig.png 23:43, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Awesome — Thanks, Pling. (Is there any value in adding these to the Help:Editing?)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:30, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

This can probably be made shorter (and more accurate), but: this might help. Also, to TEF's question, I don't see that as being particularly useful to beginning editors, the targets of that page. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 18:08, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I accept that it might not be appropriate for new users, but surely there should be an easily accessible/readable list. Where do you reckon it belongs?  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:01, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Help:Interwiki links? -- pling User Pling sig.png 19:20, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) There's a link right above! :P I don't see the need for the full list (most of those present would never, ever find a use here), but I wouldn't find a list similar in size to Pling's on the help page as some sort of footnote. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 19:28, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Well, I've created, Help:Links as a separate page as I'm sure that there are others who will find it helpful. It's linked as a note at the bottom of Help:Editing rather than as a footnote inside the current table.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:23, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

i want to delete my wiki account

it seems like this should be really obvious, but how do i delete my wiki account?

You don't. -Auron 01:45, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
To expand upon Auron's answer, there is actually literally no way available to us to delete an account. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 03:01, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
To expand upon Aiiane's answer, you could edit the squirrel database yourself and delete your account from the listing, as well as any references made to that account (and any references made to those references, etc) and then decrement the number of each succeeding account by one, and then it would appear as if your account had not existed. That would be kind of a pain, though, since you have to unlock the database for editing which requires turning off the entire wiki, not to mention the only person who could do this is probably Emily since (I would certainly hope) the wiki server isn't set up to accept requests to edit files except through the wiki interface. Mediawiki is open-source, though, so there's nothing really preventing you from creating an account deletion script, getting it pushed into stable and then proposing it on the technical requests page. But this is all really a lot of work, so unless you're a serial killer trying to cover your tracks or something, I'd really suggest deleting your page and moving on. –Jette 18:10, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

ok i guess ill keep my account forever then...lol

Forcing Internal Links inside Tables to change color

Hi there, I'm pretty used to modifying templates for my own use, but this one has me stumped. I would like to change the color of the [Show] [Hide] buttons on the edge of the template at the far right hand side, the background color is dark enough that clicking on the buttons can be difficult. Faction_farm#Fast_faction_farming Every time a kurzick band appears I want to change the [Hide] and [Show] buttons to white. #FFFFFF. There is coding for this provided on Wikipedia but I can't find the line to make it work on this wiki.

Any suggestions apart from changing the color of the panel to something else? Also heres a link to where it is used on the real wiki: Here--File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 15:18, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Licensing for images

Im currently making a website for a project at uni, and i need to know; are the images on this site, free to use? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 77.98.228.229 (talk • contribs) at 22 October 2010 (UTC).

Depends on the copyright. Any image that has the arenanet tag means that it's copyrighted by arenanet and is not free to use. On this site, about the only images that can be freely distributed are the GFDL images. If you are using the copyrighted images in a way that qualifies it for fair use, then make sure you state it explicitly in your project like "The use of this image qualifies as fair use because of..." and replace ... with at least one of the uses that qualifies it as fair use. --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg15:59, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Redirects

It hasn't happened recently (that I'm aware of) but this question just popped into my head for some odd reason and I was wondering, Why do we delete redirects? To make my question more clear, What is the pro of deleting a redirect? (the con of course being that deleting it could damage the convenience and by extension, the effectiveness of the wiki.)--BriarUser Briar Sig 3.jpgThe Spider 07:53, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Depends on the redirect. A lot of the redirects that get deleted are move remnants, esp. for improperly-named pages; because of the search popup... thing, those become a moot point, so there's no reason to keep them. Others are broken (I haven't seen this come up). I'm not sure what else would cause a redirect to be deleted (I'd check, but). — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 15:16, 30 Oct 2010 (UTC)
There's an efficiency issue that comes from not pruning and weeding the wiki. The more articles, the harder the server has to work, the more suggestions need to be displayed in search, the harder it is to maintain (if/when things get moved).
In an extreme case, adding ARticle, ArTicle, ArtIcle, ... bloats the number of pages in the wiki without offering anything of true value to the user. Even though no single page is, by itself, a problem, the overall size increase is. (Vague comparison: it's not a big deal if you leave one gum wrapper in Yosemite National Park; it's a big deal if each of 3+ million annual visitors does.) So, it makes sense to remove excess as we find them: e.g. unneeded articles, images, redirects.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 15:28, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
In 1994, I was asked to take a part-time job at Yosemite in order to help reduce the number of rule-violating tourists that were corrupting the environment with litter and stealth land development, which consisted of logging using a Comanche helicopter. Donning a gigantic orange moustache and a pair of .44s, I set out to defend the park with an angry voice and a forced accent. I drove off nearly 1400 tourists and a half-dozen businesses before I was forced to retreat when someone asked why a cowboy would be in a national park. –Jette 20:27, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
Gee, Jette: we know that cannot be true, since the first flight of the logging-tools-equipped Comanche was in 1996.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:45, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Stoping articles from creating categories

Is there any code which will stop an article from assigning itself to a category? For example, Restore Life (monster) has attached itself to several categories and therefore lists (e.g. List of core skills). I saw that for DPL, a notcategory could be added, and I hope there's a more general way which exists. G R E E N E R 22:42, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

It's got to do with the Template:Skill infobox. The template would have to be altered to stop pages from being assigned to Category:Core skills if their campaign variable is left open. WhyUser talk:Why 04:32, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Actually, it shows up in that list because it is assigned to Healing prayers, and thus categorized as a Monk skill. I'll remove that for the time being. WhyUser talk:Why 04:34, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

In order to help avoid confusion in the first place, I'd also like to see a little line in italics automatically appear below any pink image warning users, like ...

Pink dye was available for a limited time in game. It cannot be acquired from Dye Traders nor can it be traded between accounts.

Is there anyone facile with templates and wiki code who would be willing and able to set that up for us? Thanks in advance! LicensedLuny 01:57, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

After some playing around, I've managed to produce this template. However, I'm not entirely sure how to make it so that the pink dye column only appears if an image is avaliable. I might figure something out, but someone who has a better idea of what they're doing would probably be more useful at that. User Ryuu R.jpgRyuu - lol wiki 17:49, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Upon realizing some redundancy assuming one follows proper image naming guidelines, I've produced a simplified version of the same template, which works with only two parameters, located here. Feel free to use either, but I'm sure they still need work. User Ryuu R.jpgRyuu - lol wiki 18:00, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Wait, are there any pink dye charts? --JonTheMon 19:19, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
No, there aren't really any images of items dyed pink laying around. They'd need to get done, obviously. When I made costume dye charts, I just threw pink in there, so I'm sure there's some like that, too. Anyway, this is the final copy that I've come up with. My coding is kinda bad, so if you could fix it to just remove the extra column when there isn't an image to display for me, I'd appreciate it. ^^; However, I do think it's a better idea to have the upload link in sight, instead. I've made a few charts and pink preview shots. For reasons not worth going into here, they're in my userspace (I think that's what you call it) rather than left around as the official, um ... otherspace images, though. I'm leaving two as thumbs here. The official images will, of course, have different naming conventions for the files. Perhaps you can use these or copies of these to test your theories, etc. Thank you for your efforts! LicensedLuny 20:46, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
You could still utilize the template with different naming with the first parameter, assuming you ended the name with "dye chart" for the chart, and "pink dye" for the other one, respectively. However, if you happen to have a multitude of these images already made up with a standardized naming system, I could just revise the template accordingly. Weird question.

Is there a master category for categories? - Lucian Shadowborn User Lucian Shadowborn.png 03:30, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Category:Guild Wars and Category:Guild Wars Wiki are the two root categories. All other categories are somewhere under one of those. - Tanetris 04:17, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
I tried to institute a binary tree category system, wherein each category had the choice of holding two items and ending its branch of the tree, holding two categories, or holding a category and an item. For some reason nobody else liked it though. I thought it was rather elegant. –Jette 05:43, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
