[edit] On board card problem
Alright I'm having a graphical issue with Guild Wars I just can't seem to fix... I was using a NVIDIA GTX 260 to play Guild Wars but it up and died and now I'm using my on board NVIDIA 7100. When I launch Guild Wars it opens as should but only displays in the top left corner of my monitor. It's very frustrating and I obviously can't play the game which is annoying in itself. I've managed to change the game resolution to the monitor resolution that I'm currently using (1024x768) and that hasn't fixed the issue. Any ideas? I would greatly appreciate it --24.91.224.142 21:14, 31 October 2009 (UTC)Freeman
- Did you try completely uninstalling your old graphic drivers, and installing the proper drivers for your card? Check Nvidia's website.
Keep in mind that they no longer support the 7 series, so you'll have to search through the legacy drivers.Actually scratch that, they still support it, they just don't MAKE them -_-. —

I just noticed that im killing enemies but it says i gain 0xp after every enemy i kill. Why is this? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 173.62.201.73 (talk).

- Depends on the operating system you're using. --

- Try just using -w or alternatively pressing alt+enter while in fullscreen. King Neoterikos 01:01, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
- Also check to make sure it's not got -wmc or something similar already at the end. When I changed to Vista, it automatically added that onto the end for whatever reason, and I couldn't get it to be in windowed mode to save my life, until I deleted that thing. --Dragon Nataku

- Its always full screen when I opened it (even if I use -windowed/-w it's still full screen). On Vista. I always have to alt+enter ): —

[edit] My Question/s and small request
- → moved from Help:Ask a wiki question
How do you obtain and where do you get Vangaurd Reputation Points from? Why does it cost so much to get Norn armor and weapons? How much longer will it be before GW 2 becomes available for purchase? I'm so addicted to this game. Can you help me with some ingame gold, I could use about 500,000? LOL, thanks for your time and patience. Sean M. Conner, Faithfull GW player. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 97.80.37.254 (talk).
- See Ebon Vanguard rank#Acquisition.
- All EoTN armors, same as all Elite armors, are expensive just for bragging rights (or just for the looks).
- GW2 will be available once it becomes available, amd we will know once it is ready.
- No, we can't. Kill things and sell things like everyone else. (Zaishen Challenge Quests are a good way to get money for the farm-challenged people).--Fighterdoken 00:02, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
[edit] storage boxes
how do i use storage boxes--89.240.244.104 13:10, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
- I'm assuming you're talking about Xunlai Storage chests. If you're creating a Prophecies character, you won't have access until you leave Pre-Searing. If you're creating characters in other campaigns, you need to talk to the nice lady standing by the chest and give her some money. -- FreedomBound

[edit] Cross campaign question
Hey peoples, quick question.
Are you able to do quests from another campaign in a city or town from BEFORE the place you landed?
Like something from say, Ascalon City in Proph with a char from Factions.
- No. You can do quests only from Lion's Arch forward. You can go back and do the missions to gain your protector title, but you will not earn any gold or XP from them. -- Wyn

[edit] which overpowers the other
i have a dervish with daggers doing FIRE damage but i use avatar of grenth
does avatar of grenth's "your attacks deal cold damage" text overpower my fire??? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.238.156.183 (talk).
- Only while you are using Avatar of Grenth, when you are not then your daggers will do fire damage, also you need to sign your comments by 4 ~. Simzy
01:27, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- So heres a question. Using a feiry weapon with Avatar of grenth and conjure ice = win or you need conjure flame? --Ok Dont Panic 01:35, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- Skills > base mechanics. While Grenth is up, your weapon will deal cold damage (unless another skill effect is changing that.) ~Shard
01:56, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- Avatar = Dervish; Daggers = Assassin; Conjure = Elementalist. That's 3 professions so it's a bad idea. And Like it saw said, Skills take priority, so it's Ice as long as the Avatar is active, and Fire otherwise. —
Poki#3 (talk) 12:25, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- Why would you use Fiery Daggers anyway? --Sam6555 12:50, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- The conjure question may have been hypothetical, or he was using daggers for the double strike chance because dervish have a lot of melee attack skills that don't require a specific weapon, i think.. -/- Discuss 13:21, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- Purely hypothetical ;) just couldnt remember how it worked. i Guess then haveing Grenth then another skill ON TOP of that making it earth damage would then require an ebon weapon? :P or is that just messing around too much?--Ok Dont Panic 16:09, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- The choice whether to use a elemental weapon mod, or a element changing skill largely depends on what you think is better for your current build. If you mod a weapon, you're giving up Zelous and Vamp mods. Skill on the other hand, take up a skill slot, and often don't last 100% of the time and/or can be stripped. With elemental damage you also have to take into consideration that you'll be doing less damage to Rangers and monsters with resistances to that element, and more damage to Warriors and monsters with a weakness. As far as multiple skills go, It probably depends on the order you cast them with, but that's more then unpractical. —

[edit] Henchmen
Why isn't there an Assassin henchman in the Raisu Palace and Imperial Sanctum outposts? --Piippo 17:23, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- Because the developers chose not to put one there. Probably because the Assassin celestial skill is fairly OP. -- Wyn

[edit] Frozen Image and Wonky Graphics
Since around Halloween, Guild Wars has been periodically freezing up for no apparent reason. My screen's image will freeze in one single frame, but the audio continues to function as it normally does. This condition can only be rectified by minimizing the game and immediately restoring it.
So that's been going on for about five days, and just this afternoon I encountered another problem. As I was struggling through The Floodplain of Mahnkelon, I first noticed that the game was freezing itself for often than usual. Then, when I encountered some Kuskale, the game just all of a sudden started freaking out! The health bars turned white, ground turned into a sea of little white squares, and all the characters were different squares of varying size and color. Amidst all this chaos, my screen continued to freeze periodically. I was in panic, for obvious reasons, immediately closed the game.
So then I grabbed my discs and reinstalled the entire game. Once I had done that, I went back to The Floodplain of Mahnkelon, only to discover that absolutely nothing had changed. The screen still froze, and the Kuskale still made my graphics go insane. I ran a quick Virus Scan to no avail, and then retried in the hopes of getting a screenshot of the strange visual effects, at least. This time, however, I couldn't even get to the Kuskale: my game completely froze and I was forced to restart my computer just as I was leaving Moddok Crevice.
In case it matters, these problems have only arisen while playing the Nightfall campaign. Prophecies and Factions don't cause any problems, even in the crowded LA districts. However, Halloween in Kamadan was troublesome, with the repeated image freezing.
So here I am. Do you guys have any idea as to what's going on? I might have something unplugged somewhere, or my video card might be wearing out. If it's the latter, I have no idea how or where to get another one, or even what to ask for. 70.130.33.173 01:30, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- Nightfall and EotN have a higher graphics requirement than factions and prophecies did. Problem will probably be resolved with a new comp, depending on what you're running gws on now. 76.103.242.232 01:38, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- If prophecies and factions don't give you these errors, your video card isn't malfunctioning, but it is probably too old to handle the newer chapters. Have you tried turning down some of your graphics options? ~Shard
01:43, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds like he just started having this problem, so I'd say it's a video card dying or general overheating. By chance has your computer gotten quieter or louder recently? Fans dying can cause exactly what you're describing, because the video card or other internal component is getting too hot. -- FreedomBound

Do you mean the noises the computer itself makes or the actual audio? I've never really paid much attention to the noises the computer itself makes, but it seems pretty quiet unless it's reading or burning a disc. The actual audio is just fine.
I haven't been in any Eye of the North areas since this problem arose, purely by coincidence, so I don't know if the trouble would be similar there or not.
If it is either a malfunctioning fan or video card, how would I go about replacing it? I don't know the first thing about a computer's internal workings, and I'd like to avoid spending too much money. Jobless 16-year-olds from tight-budget families don't have much spending money. 70.130.33.173 12:02, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- Could you post us your computer specs? Click on Start, the Run and type in "dxdiag" without the quotes. On the 1st screen you'll find your operating system, processor and memory. On the 3rd, the name of the graphics card name. —
Poki#3 (talk) 12:14, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- I was referring to the sounds the computer itself makes. You'd notice it if a fan were dying. They generally sound horrible for days before they actually stop spinning. Graphics card prices can vary widely, depending on what kind your pc uses. They are one of the easier things to replace, though. -- FreedomBound

[edit] Account hacks
My question is addressed to accounts being hacked. About a year ago my account was hacked and everything was stolen. But not only was everything stolen my main character was also deleted along with all 26 titles. I was offered very little help and the support team seemed cold when addressing my problem. All my hours of game play were lost and it felt like crap not being able to get back what was lost and having support telling me it was my fault. Has Anet made an upgrade yet to help players get back hacked account titles? And if not will there be better support in GW2?
- No. You will not ever be able to retrieve deleted characters in GW. We have no idea what will be available/possible in GW2. -- Wyn
talk 04:25, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
- Support can't revert accounts or characters without reverting the whole server. They will however track down whoever did that, and if possible take back the items. They have a list of readied responses to respond to tickets quicker, that doesn't mean they're "cold". —

[edit] How is a trial supposed to do anything!?
My girlfriend and I wanted to try Guild Wars. We can't invite each other to a party! I can't even ask anyone to invite us to party! Can't chat can't invite, why is this game even a multiplayer demo! So frustrating. Call me when trial accounts can play the game and I'll come back and try it again. Thekarrd 03:44, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
- In Prophecies you begin in an outpost. You both have to be in the same district to party up. Your District List should appear in the upper left corner of your screen. Once you are sure you are in the same district, you should be able to party up. There are no party restrictions on trial-keys. You will be in an area that is restricted to a 2 player party, and is the tutorial area. Once players have left this area (usually around lvl 7) they can not return. So if you have friends who play who are farther than this, they will not be able to play with you. If you are in a different campaign (Factions or Nightfall) new characters begin in an explorable area. You have to proceed to the first outpost before you can join forces. I hope this helps. If not feel free to post more specifics. -- Wyn
talk 04:22, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, Trial accounts (at least those made from the website, and not via a trial key) can't party with other trial accounts Wyn. Unfortunately they have a lot of restrictions. These restrictions shouldn't bother a single player, but if someone want's to play with someone else it's more bothersome. Sorry Thekarrd, but these are all measures taken to stop Gold Farmers from using such accounts to lauder money, spam, advertise etc. Sorry you had a negative experience. All I can say is that the full version doesn't have such restrictions, though I know it's not much of a helpful advise. —
