I Got Scammed :(

there are the people that go around buying accounts all the time right? well i decided to sell my trial key for 50k to this guy so i gave it to him then he said "O.k. i need to sent you an email with the money in it since trade money is illegal in china so ill need your account name and password" so i gave it to him and went to my email and it was all in Chinese and i pressed the button - then i realized that this was the change your account name page and freaked - and cried:( so now only he knows the account name and hes probably changed the password by now and now I've spent almost $100 on this game and now ill never be able to play again:*(

I'm sorry, but this is your fault in the first place for attempting to sell your trial key. Not only is it against the EULA, people never want the actual key. They want your account, and more importantly, the stuff you keep on it. -- Wandering Traveler 12:46, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure one of the first warning messages you see is "Don't share your password or account information with anyone. ANet will never ask for this information." Sorry, but it seems that you learned that the hard way. :/ The only thing that you can try, although I doubt it would work, is to go to the support site and have your password e-mailed to the e-mail address that is registered to your account. However, that will only work if the scammer didn't already change the e-mail associated with your account. My money is on he did, if that's at all possible. -- TERO talk 17:48, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Also, NEVER EVER EVER give your account name and password to someone you don't know. Well, technically, sharing accounts even with someone you do know is against the EULA but tons of people do that. That's completely and utterly besides the point. From the GuildWars login screen: "Account Security: Beware of a new scam where individuals or companies offer to place trades, sales, or contest prizes directly into a player's account. Remember: once someone has your username and password, your account is no longer secure. Do not share your account info with anyone."

That trial key thing sounded fishy in the first place when he said that he needed your account name and password. Trading money may or may not be illegal in China (I don't know), but usually when people say "50k" they mean ingame money, and trading that isn't illegal anywhere or else he wouldn't be able to play the game in China. And no one ever needs your account name and password to trade you ingame money.

Anyway, the only thing that could save you now is if you had your GuildWars account linked to a PlayNC account that didn't use the same login/password as your GuildWars account. If this is so, then he cannot change your password and your account will still be yours, just change your password from your PlayNC account. If your login info for both GuildWars and PlayNC is the same, well, you're pretty much screwed. Sorry.  :o( --Dragon nataku 17:54, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

There might be another solution, too. One the access keys for the games (Factions, Nightfall, Prophecies, EoTN), they say to keep the key in case you need help. Like they said, no /hug emote exists right now. In addition to the /rock, /paper, and /scissors emotes, I've also seen some people use the /bowhead emote together so it looked like they were hugging each other or making out. --Shinigami King 00:13, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

I am in Eye of the North from Nightfall. In the explorable areas I pick up the gold the monsters drop, but it doesn't get to my inventory. The information screen shows that my character picks up the gold.--98.199.173.45 02:14, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

First, use the new section '+' tab for a new question. Second, do you mean that no gold enters your inventory, or just some of it? If none, then do you have 100k in your inventory? That could do it too. That's all of which I could think. --Chaiyo Kaldor talk contribs 02:18, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

To expand on Chaiyo's explanation, by "just some of it" he means that the gold gets divided up equally amoungst your party members. Including heroes and henches. So if you were by yourself and picked up 16 gold, the gold in your inventory would increase by 16. But if you were one out of a party of four (whether real people, heroes, or hench) and picked up 16g, the gold in your inventory would only increase by 4. And in a party of eight, the gold in your inventory would only increase by 2 after picking up 16g. Personally, I think that if they're your personal heroes, you should get their share of the drops/gold, but oh well.  :op --Dragon nataku 02:56, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gwen in pre - searing Prophecies and lack of reward

I have met Gwen outside Ascalon city, found her broken flute, bought her a new flute a cape and given her dozen of flowers, directly from my back pack and flowers picked from the ground; nothing happens. She only sais she'll add the beautiful flower to the ones she's got already. What can I do to get my reward from her useful in the Eye of the North expansion. A lot players in my Guild has got it but their advice about getting it doesn't match my experience. I simply don't get it.

Feel I have followed the prescription on this side under the Gwen chapter, but when I do as told nothing happens.

OK. So, you've given her the flute, cape, and at least 3-5 flowers. Has she given you the Tapestry Shred yet? If so, you've got everything you need for the GWEN bonus quest Then and Now, Here and There. Is it a bug? A note on Tapestry Shred says there's a chance of a bug if you partied with someone who has gotten the shred. -- ab.er.rant 17:44, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Chances of your character being bugged at this point are high. Did you party with someone else before (or in the middle of) doing the quest? If you did, and if that person had already gotten his shred from Gwen, you will be unable to anymore. The only solution for fixing that is deleting the char and restarting again (or just rolling a new character).--Fighterdoken 18:25, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if this is still active or not, but when I first started playing, I acquired the Tapestry Shred only after I took Gwen back home (she lives in Fort Ranik and sometimes says something like "How am I ever going to get back home?"). Like I said, maybe they've changed it since then, but maybe it's worth a shot? Just have her follow you to Fort Ranik and see what happens? Thank you for the help though it did not help. I gave her some more flowers and took her to Fort Ranik. No result. So I passed on to the next stage of the game since it was my last pre-searing quest.

I think it is anoying that the only pre-searing quest that has an impact on the future game play, that is in the Eye of the North, is bugged. To fix it ought to be a top priority to Arianet.--Szetan 23:46, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

All is not lost for your future however, you CAN get a tapestry shred from another player (or purchase one, they appear on Guru Auctions routinely) and still complete the EotN quest. The only requirement to do the EotN quest is that you have a tapestry shred to give her, and are a Prophecies born character. -- Wynthyst 23:50, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

You can also just make a separate new character, farm for ten minutes, do a quest or two, do the gwen stuff, maybe get a lucky dye drop, rush the searing, open your Xunlai chest, drop the items, delete the character ^_^. --Star Weaver 16:50, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

OK, question. Did you give her the 5 flowers all at once (like you had them all in your inventory at the same time) or did you give them to here separately? Because there is the bug that if there's more than 1 flower in your inventory and you give her a flower, she takes all of them and only counts it as 1. So if you had 5 flowers in for bag, talked her her and gave them all to her (I haven't been in pre for a while so I don't know whether she asks for just one or all), she still just considers all 5 of the flowers as 1. As far as i know, i do not have any alliance points for either the luxons or the kurzicks. despite this, kurzick merchants will sell to me and luxon merchants will not. why is this?--68.22.199.29 23:33, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

If you are in a guild aligned Kurzick, the Luxon merchants won't talk to you if you don't have more Luxon faction than Kurzick on your account. -- Wynthyst 23:39, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Also, having done Boreas Seabed or Arbourstone missions gives you faction points for their respective factions (Arbourstone gives Kurz, and Boreas gives Lux), so if you've done Arbourstone and not Boreas, then you will have more Kurz points than Lux. For future reference, you can press the H key to open your personal hero window, make sure you're on the Faction tab, and you can check to see how many faction points you have in Kurz or Lux. --Dragon nataku 02:30, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Not usre if this is a bug or otherwise and I cannot find the right place to do this but I have now been into the lission twice and on both occassions having completed everything except the final assault, I cannot open the first cell. The lever activates but the cell door does not open. A bit frustrating

Have you acquired the Befriending the Luxons quest from Elder Rhea? That's the quest you need the 10k Lux faction for. Once you complete that quest, you can acquire the Stolen Eggs quest. Once you finish Stolen Eggs, you will be allowed inside Gyala Hatchery. --Dragon nataku 18:38, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

1) Please do not post an unrelated question in someone else's topic. 2) "Moon-shaped island near chahbek"? Err... The only moon-shaped island I know of in NF is Gandara, the Moon Fortress. But that's nowhere near Chahbek Village... It's not even in Istan. Perhaps you mean a different area? i just recently purchased factions and have had multiple characters get past the first mission. Everytime i get to eh warning the tengu quest, or any other quest that takes place in the kinya province i no longer have an arrow and the quests are uncompletable as the targets of the quests don't exist. i have literally searched the entire region and have never found the afflicted creature from warning the tengu quest, honorclaw guy from the assassin training quest ( i believe it is called dual strike or some variant thereof), or the mysterious stone(once again i forgot the quest) quest which you get right after getting your elementalists insignia. is it a glitch or have other people experienced this problem. (tried looking around but i can't seem to look up the right stuff.) answer please this is the most annoying thing that i have dealt with. ```` (if i didn't sign write sorry i am very new at this)

Check your quest log to see if you have anything under "Festival Quests", and if you do, abandon them. The quests from the recent Dragon Festival have been known the glitch the area in the past. --Valshia 21:51, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

I have taken the liberty of posting a note on the pages of the quests that I know can be affected by Dragon Festival quests. Even though the Dragon Festival is now over, we keep getting these questions. Also, the same thing happened last year during the Dragon Festival, and probably the year before that (I just can't remember that far back. Blame old age  :op ). Items that you can only have 1 of them per inventory slot, instead of being able to stack multiple of them in a single inventory slot. For instance, materials and keys are stacking, but minipets are not. If you have 2 of the same minipet, you still have to put them in 2 different inventory slots, whereas if you have two of the same key, you just put them together in a stacked slot. I'll take a shot at explaining it, I suppose. It's kinda like Aiiane said in relation to materials, but slightly different. Some benefits will stack (i.e., if you use a warrior's Knight's Insignia, you can put one on each piece of your warrior's armour and get the benefits on each piece of armour). Some will not (like Vigor runes, which means that if you put a Major Vigor rune on one armour piece and a Minor Vigor rune on another piece, you will NOT have both HP benefits, just the benefits from the Major Vigor rune). Basically, if the thing says (non-stacking) in the item description, then even if you have two things that have the same effect equipped, you will NOT get the benefits from both; just one of them. --Dragon nataku 22:28, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Just to add to Dragons explanation, in regard to Rune of <type> <attribute> you won't get the benefits of both runes but you will get both of the negatives. So for example if you place a Rune of Major Energy Storage and a Rune of Superior Energy Storage on your armor you will only get +3 Energy Storage (not +5) but will receive both the -75 health and the -35 health for a total of -110 health. --Kakarot 22:44, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Is there a way I can access my chat logs? I need to access them because my guild leader pmed me the info for ventrilo and the password so I have to get the log so I can see again what it was so I can add it to my ventrilo client.

So long as your chat window is still open, you can scroll up through the chat log and view everything. If you've closed the game or logged out, or just switched characters, the chat log resets... unfortunately, nothing there is saved. Also, the chat window log only holds a certain number of messages, so if you're in a busy district, well, any messages you may want to go over again will get pushed off the log rather quickly. --Dragon nataku 04:59, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

i am curious why my canthan protector is saying i have only completed 4 missions and bonuses when i have 6 complete andwhy my elonian protector is saying i have only completed 14 when i have completed 16 of the regular missions. thanks you , also what are the last 3 missions required for elona

Have you gotten full Master rewards on all six missions, or only Expert rewards? The title should be accurate. Same goes for Elonian protector.

List of Nightfall missions will tell you the last three missions... they're inside of the Realm of Torment, if you can't spot them on the normal map, you'll need to enter the Gate of Torment. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 04:55, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Ummm... OK, I think I know which two skills you are talking about. Grenth's Fingers and Heart of Holy Flame, perhaps? They both last 30 seconds, yes. But the "damage amounts" you're talking about... I think either you're a tad confused or I'm just not understanding your question right. They both say something like "All adjacent foes are struck for (number) (cold/holy) damage." Both of those will happen when you activate the skills. The next part of both skills says "For 30 seconds, your attacks deal (cold/holy) damage," with no number attached to them. So I dunno what you mean by "two damage amounts," as that part of both skills doesn't have an amount attached to them. I am not completely sure if you will do cold AND holy damage at the same time (but I don't quite think this is possible), but both skills can remain active at the same time. I think that the second skill you use overrides the first in only this regard (cold vs holy). If this is not so, then someone who knows more about this aspect than I do can add to this explanation. The last part of those skills say "When this enchantment ends, all adjacent foes are (crippled/set on fire) for (time) seconds." Both of these conditions will occur when the enchantment ends, even if both skills are active (I just tried it out). Locate the Prt Scr (Print Screen) button on your keyboard. Some computers require that you hold down another key at the same time to activate it (i.e., mine requires the fn (Function) key to be held down while pressing Prt Scr to take a screenshot). While ingame, if you do this, a message will appear in green text in the chat log area stating that you have taken a screenshot and where it was saved on your hard drive. If you do it on the character selection screen or the login screen, you will not recieve this message but will still have taken a screenshot. If you want to get rid of things like the Party menu and the chat log, etc., etc., so that they do not appear in the screenshot, press Ctrl-Shift-H. Note: You will not recieve the "screenshot taken" message if you do this, until after you press the same three keys to bring back the user interface (chat log, Party menu, etc.). To better explain; it was thought that the Guild Wars 2 Beta was going to happen in fall and/or winter of 2008, but the beta was posponed so that ArenaNet employees could improve the game a bit more. So the beta still does not have a set date, but has been said that it will happen sometime in 2009; the game itself will most likely be coming out in late 2009 or early 2010. I can't seem to abandon Primary GWEN quests, as they are as the game puts it 'This challenge can not be abandoned. It must be completed.' Doing the Bonus for this mission last night a team member released the ghost before we cleared the castle so we cleared castle, Bonus was still active but no Ghost in caslte we followed path to were she is suppose to go and still no ghost so thinking we forgot something at castle went back nothing so we completed mission thinking maybe she got somewhere along the way but we had no clue to were she may gone. Duel of the Houses and The Jade Arena yield decent gold and loot if you can do them quickly enough, and let you build up one of the allegiance rank titles. If you don't care about the titles, you can spend the faction on amber, jade or passage scrolls to sell. The game doesn't have any steady sources of direct cash, but I think Zaishen Keys and Titan Gemstones are still worth quite a bit in trade. -- Gordon Ecker 23:57, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

There is always the Treasure chests in Nightfall, which yield roughly 20k in cash plus items and can be reopened every 30 days or so. But seriously, the best way to make money is just play the game, do the quests. Since the popularity of adding aftercast delays to many things has grown in popularity with the Anet staff, I thought I would ask:

Have they considered that they have effectively nullified many benefits of playing a FastCasting mesmer? Is there a way to suggest that points in FastCasting ALSO reduce the aftercast times proportionately to casting times?

The only skills they've added aftercast to post-release are offensive shadow step skills, which are only useful for melee builds and PBAoE spike builds (which is impossible for Mesmer / Assassins due to the two professions' lack of PBAoE spells), and they shortened PBAoE aftercast delay in the March 6th update. -- Gordon Ecker 06:36, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

I can`t connect to server when i select a character. It`s show me a message of error code 013.

The network status page says nothing, but from what I have seen today so far, it is apparently only people linked to European servers who are having problems logging in and such. I got the same error when trying to go to European districts from International after hearing about this problem. Please make sure you have space in your inventory for ALL of the bonus items that will be created. I know that before, if you did not have space for all of them, then none of them will be created. I dunno how many it is exactly, as different versions of different campaigns have different bonus weapons/number of bonus weapons. If you have 15 extra slots, and it's still not working, maybe it's the /special command you need? I know that does something in one of the many incarnations of GuildWars. Otherwise, I have absolutely no idea. Perhaps you didn't add the right access key? I dunno. (most copies of GuildWars come with a regular CD key, and a TRIAL key, so maybe you put the wrong one) Maybe the game just hates you.  :op No, but, seriously, if you go to your character selection screen, click on "Edit Account" and then "Manage Access Keys," it should give you a list of some of the stuff you have available on your account. If you're a ranger, you wield a bow, which is two-handed. Healing Ankhs are focus items, generally used on casters that use one-handed weapons, such as wands, where the other hand is free and could hold a focus item. So you have no use for a healing ankhs, and they have no effect, because you aren't "holding them". Maybe someone else can explain a bit better... Calor 19:55, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

One could add that certain weapons, when you mouse-over them, will say in the description "two-handed." Anything that says this will prevent you from wielding an offhand item, such as a focus (like a healing ankh) or a shield. Double-clicking on the offhand while weilding a two-handed weapon will make it go into the offhand item slot, but it will not actually do anything (and should have a big ol' red circle with a line through it over the icon of the offhand in that slot if you do this, meaning its benefits/whatever will not apply to you). --Dragon nataku 20:52, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if this is a similar issue, but a while back there was a period where characters that were a combination of a certain gender and class (for a while it was male elementalists, then it expanded to include male necromancers) appeared as a large white box the same size as the character. The fix for me was to delete my GW.dat file and do the -image command line argument to restore everything. After I did that, everything was normal again.
