A male and female paragon

Paragons are the guardian angels of Elona, humanity’s champions against malefic threats. They rally the valiant with Shouts and Chants, aiding heroes, henchmen, and other adventurers through inspiration and motivation. A Paragon’s best weapons rely on an insightful mind, a courageous spirit, and a charismatic voice. Many Paragons also arm themselves with a spear and shield, striking from a distance as they shout their battle cries. Through insight, they help others resist Hexes and Conditions, echoing their commands across the field of battle (in fact, some “Echo” abilities renew themselves each time a Chant or Shout ends). When all hell breaks loose, a commanding Paragon shines as a beacon of light, driving back the forces of darkness.

The Paragon is a battle commander who wields a shield and throwing spears. The Paragon uses verbal commands to provide temporary boosts and can, through his insight, help aid allies against Hexes and Conditions. Paragons are the guardian angels of the Elonian people and serve as that land's champions against malevolent threats.

The Paragon uses a short throwing spear in combat, but his best weapons are his mind and his voice. He is continually aware of his surroundings and can direct others to the best use of their own abilities.

The Paragon's armor is ornate, indicating his status as a natural leader. It is protective, but not as protective as that of a Warrior, and made of a mixture of metal and leather, inset with ivory, mother of pearl, and other semiprecious materials. Paragon armor has an angelic motif, usually in the form of wings engraved onto the metal plates. The Paragon also carries a shield for added protection.

Paragons are touched by the gods, chosen by them to serve as emissaries among mortals. At some point in their lives, each Paragon has experienced an event in which he should have died but did not. Paragons ascribe their survival to the gods themselves, and dedicate their lives as the gods' servants in the mortal world.

Paragons are much more social than Dervishes, and often are found in situations where ordinary people are confronted with mystical or monstrous threats. They use their abilities for the greater good of those around them. Despite this, they remain apart, separated from the masses by their mission from the gods. They may remain as part of a village for years, yet never truly settle down.

Paragons believe in fate—everything is in the hands of the gods. Should two Paragons meet in conflict, it has been determined to be so. If one of them falls in combat, that, too, is preordained. They feel their time on this plane is mere preparation for greater challenges in the Mists of Eternity. The gods make their wills known through signs and portents, and occasionally through direct visions granted to the faithful.
