Smurf

A smurf is an alternate guild, typically created by an already high ranked GvG guild through the use of secondary accounts.

There are a number of reasons that people smurf including:

  • Being able to play against opponents without risking their existing (usually high) ladder position.
  • Avoiding the longer wait times associated with awaiting a worthy opponent.
  • Participating in matches against opponents that are typically lesser experienced and/or skilled. Often resulting in easy wins.

Some people may smurf to test the effectiveness of a new build. While others might simply enjoy the easier victories. Regardless of their motives, smurf guilds remain controversial because the ladder rank associated with their guild is often lower than their skill level would indicate. These guilds have been used in the past to purposely drop the ladder position of higher ranked guilds.
