Hard Mode Difference[edit]

Any idea of whether or not this has a greater reward for hard mode? 138.16.38.234 02:04, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

I don't think the Hard Mode reward improvement has been implemented yet (translation: No, don't think so). -- Konig/talk 02:08, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
There's no extra reward for HM as of yet. RazoR39999 02:28, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
Is this even doable on HM? I just got butchered straight away. 93.97.117.175 19:21, 15 April 2011 (UTC)
It is. It is just very difficult, and you have to synergize with Miku's build almost to a T. It took me a few attempts. 24.49.195.94 14:06, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Localization and different dialogs[edit]

I'm using different language for Guild Wars client, I found something interesting: Russian, Korean, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Traditional Chinese and Polish localizations show first line of quest as: "White Mantle Zealot: What are you doing here? Where is your passport?" While in English it says: "White Mantle Zealot: "This one has been following us. What is your name, girl?" There are also other lines that show up differently. Is it intentional or glitch? --Jagtiger 03:57, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

My assumption is that they chneged the dialogu just before release, after they had sent it of for translation. Backsword 11:09, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Gwen's Dialog[edit]

Gwen kinda bugs out all the time she just repeats her dialog after it ended, making it impossible for me to get the emblem in the jungle... 88.70.96.233 05:38, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Changing the HoM display to personal and rezoning fixed it for me, should be noted as a bug on the page88.70.96.233 05:47, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

I tried changing HOM display to personal & rezoning didn't fix, relogged to game, changed to a different district and then decided to run another toon to that point and gwen is still stuck and no emblem quest any other ideas?

That's strange it worked for 3 of my toons. Did you actually wait till she finished her dialog before storming into Majesty's Rest? When she stops repeating herself it's a sign that it works.

have they not fixed this yet? i still cant get the 2nd item because of gwens constant blabber :/ 92.234.198.46 21:55, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Well, I'm settling with sitting in the hall letting Gwen talk til her jaw falls off, since none of the solutions worked for me thus far. I do have an idea of tagging along into the hall with someone who already got their emblem quest, to see what happens, but I was unable to find anyone willing to help. -Yossitaru 22:11, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Max Invent Warning[edit]

Dident have time to react and lost out of 2 medals of honor :( really sad that is. Forgot to sign in "Ace Loves It" P.S Zoned into Eye Of The North and they appeared in invent safe box, leave this up for future reference. "Ace Loves It"

This is the default behavior during a mission: stuff left on ground or auto-rewarded appears in the temp inventory window until you accept/reject it. (In other words, they didn't do anything special for HotN.) Glad you didn't lose out on the medals!  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:27, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Great White Mantle Emblem/Badge farm[edit]

Also very runnable (help Miku at the beginning, use a speed boost and run through, carefully take out the last group) 173.76.111.85 05:45, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Miku[edit]

Once you understand how Miku functions these quests become easy. Keep at it,you will catch on. (Jaxx Hammer)--173.16.56.248 02:31, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Although this is a solo mission it is important to keep team chat on to clearly see the targets Miku calls. --SleepyGamer 08:20, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Drops[edit]

I was noticing that a lot of drops that come from enemies tend to be things that you can use for Gwen's Birthday picnic. Can anyone confirm? Sol Dragonblade 20:09, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Two phrasing for minor bug[edit]

There's a text bug, if you fail the mission due to equipping the wrong weapon: the game says you need Togo's Staff instead of Keiran's Bow. There's some disagreement about which version best reflects the bug:

  1. "Quickly switching from Keiran's Bow to another weapon just before entering the mission results in quest failure upon entry and you receive a notification that incorrectly states you must equip Togo's Staff to play the mission."
  2. "If you fail the mission because you have the wrong weapon (perhaps by swapping out Keiran's Bow too quickly), the dialogue text incorrectly states that Togo's Staff is required."
  3. "The game incorrectly states that Togo's Staff is required, should you fail the mission at the beginning because you swapped out Keiran's Bow too soon."

I think version #1 makes it sound as if the mission failure is part of the bug (when the game clearly states you need K's bow to start it off). Version 2 attempts to put more emphasis on the text bug. Version #3 puts the bug part up front (and relegates the cause to a subordinate clause). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 03:51, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Ebon Vanguard Points Farm[edit]

Hi, I have found a quicker way to farm Vanguard Points, in this Mission. It's said, that it takes about 10 min. to complete the mission. I have found a way to do this mission in about 5-7 min maximum.Vanguard Point Farm Rooute.jpg

At Point 1: You can sometimes avoid the group there, if you walk close the wall on the left side.

At Point 2: You can sometimes avoid the group there, if you walk close the wall on the left side. Or from the right side and then you walk near the Ocean.

At Point 3: If you could avoid group 2 you probably can walk of this group too. If you couldn't avoid this group, you can try to just leave the group behind. Don't forget to heal Miku if needed.

At point 4: you need to be a little quick, so you don't run into the group, which approaches from east.

Even if you couldn't avoid group 1-3, 4 should be no problem and the run should't take longer than 7 minutes. If you could avoid all group, which is prossible with a little luck you should be doing this mission in about 5 minutes.

This way you can farm Vanguard Points. In an hour you should have at least 10.000 Vanguard Pionts, 8 Platinum and 40.000 Expirince Points. If you are lucky it could be 15.0000 Vanguard Point, 12 Platinum and 60.000 Expirience.

(Please note that you must kill all 3 enemies at the very end of this mission to complete it. The composition of those 3 enemies is random. If you happen to get a group of 2-3 healing/rezzing mobs [highly likely since ritualists, zealots, and knights all do this], you may find that you simply cannot kill them alone with Keiran. Your time will have been wasted on that particular run. You can make it to the end with minimal aggro in about 4 minutes, but sometimes the end fight is simply impossible (or not time efficient) to win. In this case, you've wasted 5 minutes with no reward. Rise is a better option for consistency, even though it takes a little longer.) 66.177.28.250 03:55, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

I would disagree; I went from the start of R9 to maxed title using this quest and never ran into a situation where the three at the end weren't easy. It's possible that can happen (I never had more than 2 healing types spawn, which was quite simple with appropriate use of Keiran's Sniper Shot and the interrupt), but it seems to be quite rare, and this is shorter than Rise (which is a good option if you need variety or want the extra drops - or for whatever reason have trouble here, but which isn't as fast on average). I'd recommend this one, but Rise is a reasonable alternative. Lillian ap Cor 21:52, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Dying and survivor and why it *might* be worth a note[edit]

In HotN, you are playing Thack, not your own toon. When you do this in the BMP missions (according to Survivor), you do not lose progress. In contrast, if you die while imitating the Lieut, you do lose progress. I'm ambivalent about whether this is worth a note or not (although it should be consistent across all HotN mini-mish). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:05, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

When I first encountered the quest, I came to the wiki specifically to learn about this, because the question makes sense: You are being "shown" the events of the past, as happened to someone else, very much like the Bonus Mission Pack quests. It is not unreasonable ("duh", as some would say) to expect that death should not reset survivor progress. I think this is valuable information for this quest arc (for me it was worth 90K exp:) --Ishmaeel 00:25, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
I'm now inclined to agree that the HotN mini-mish each require a note. While it's true that BMP mish are anomalous compared to Proph/Factions/etc, there's not really any way that the casual GW player would realize that HotN doesn't follow the same rules as BMP.
Suggested text: Survivor progress will be halted if you die while disguised as Keiran Thackeray.Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:34, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Looks good. Might also throw in a reference to BMP so that it is evident why the note was deemed necessary. I understand that not everybody has access to those missions and it is easy for them to think that there are no exceptions to survivor progress in the PvE. --Ishmaeel 09:02, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
The exception about BMP missions isn't stated ingame. If anyone knows about it, it's because they read the Survivor article. Consequently, noting that HotN is not included in that exception should IMHO go to Survivor, not here.
If anyone embarks on unknown content during survivor without making sure that deaths can either be avoided or do not count, it can't be helped anyway. Tub 12:20, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Many things aren't stated explicitly in-game. That's why there are external resources like the wiki. As I said before, this is valuable information and should be made available in this site somewhere. When I encountered the quest, I checked both here and in the survivor page and finding nothing, assumed that since this is relatively new content, nobody actually got around to finding out or editing the pages. So, knowing full well I could lose 90K xp, I went ahead and tried it. I was willing to do this and of course have no right or intention to place the blame elsewhere. I just want the next guy to not have to do it.
Putting the note in the survivor page actually makes perfect sense. As you said, anybody who actually cares about their progress should be sure to check it before plunging into the unknown. It would be both cleaner (not having to mess with all the pages in this quest arc) and clearer (why is there a note telling me this? oh yes, because it isn't almost but not quite entirely unlike BMP). --Ishmaeel 15:13, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Greens?[edit]

Not sure if anyone knows if it is possible to get the green weapons or even the mini in this mini mission? if anyone knows can they please tell me. ~Whisper 119~

You mean the uniques that otherwise drop from War in Kryta peacekeepers or white mantle?
According to this post on guru, no: you cannot.
"As an experiment I have cleared the entire Watchtower Coast as Keiran, have observed receiving full 100% drops - always 1 drop per 1 enemy killed (no lootscaling) but have got 0 (zero) WiK specific drops. No Confessor's Orders at all. No other drop anomalies observed." Yawgmoth
The methodology of the poster looks rigorous, so I'm inclined to trust it except that Kanda disputes the Confessor's Orders evidence. (Kanda is the same contributor who has put together the list of remaining items for Nick's weekly scavenger hunt.) On the talk page, he has a screenshot indicating that they do drop.
Still, near as I can tell, there's no evidence that any greens drop while disguised as Thack.
Of course, you can receive the drops while investigating clues to Keiran's disappearance (since you aren't disguised as him and you are, in effect, in WiK areas, not HotN ones). (edited to reflect new evidence)Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:07, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay just checking cause i am just doing it to max my ebon wanted to know if it was worth fighting extra groups or not. `Whisper 119~
I can confirm that Confessors Orders *do* drop in this mission. I have a screenshot if it's necessary. I haven't seen a green yet, though. Lillian ap Cor 01:46, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
