Good English?[edit]

I have read this a few times and it never quite seemed correct. I looked up the definition and I realy don't think it is worded correctly.

"Leave from Longeye's Ledge, WHENCE it is easy for one player to run ..."

Why whence? Perhaps it should be changed to "Leave from Longeye's Ledge. From here it is easy for one player to run ..."

You're right; whence, while accurate, is archaic. I shall take you're advice and remove the offending word.--Son of Batman 09:49, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Mission Bug[edit]

I completed this quest and then retook it from the Hall of Monuments by talking to the Scrying Pool and asking for guidance. - BeX iawtc 09:20, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Yea seems repeatable but you do not get the norn points the second time.Laforge 06:24, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

for about a week now I've been stuck here, due to the already known bug. I cannot even attempt this quest. I've completed about everything else I can, but I'd really like to actually continue with GW:EN. anybody know how to get past the bug of not being able to do it / or anybody know when they'll make a fix for this?Future 15:19, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

it's fixable by killing all mobs surrounding the altar, I've just done it.Future 08:27, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
More specifically, it's fixable _if_ you abandon the mission, then return to the altar and kill the Vaettir. Just returning to the altar or killing the Vaettir while the mission is still active will not un-bork it. Nom 13:34, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Hard Mode[edit]

It seems there are too many creatures around the flame area in hm. We get wiped every time we go near the area 65.24.106.106 03:15, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

There does seem to be an extraordinary amount of those spectral vateri in the area around the flame. You might want to try going from Longeye's Ledge, since there's only a couple groups to fight. Also, they pretty much keep Lyssa's Aura up almost all the time, meaning most casters get hit pretty hard energy-wise. You might want to bring a rit lord to help with some offence. Yukiko User Yukiko Sig.png 06:17, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
I found that going from Sifhalla resulted in finding a mob of 25+ vaettir in the way of the flame. The run from Longeye's only involves a mob or two, which any competent group should be able to take out (even though it's Jotun). Sweep the edges and get mobs as small as you can, take them out slowly, and then just stand on the alter. Armond 21:14, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
I suggest if you are gonna do this in hard mode do the following. This works great I've done 8 NM books and working on 8 HM books. First you don't need to go to pool to pick it up. First if you don't have Ursan Blessing then get it. Jog to Jaga Moraine from Long eye's. Much easier plus you should be able to summon bear without agroing any spectrals. Next talk Bear Spirit in Jaga Moraine to get quest. Go into Bjora Marches. Do not got to alter. No need anymore. Ursan blessing will allow you to break through barriers. Instead of heading north go south then north to barricade. And cleanse the area. It is a much faster way. Many fewer groups to kill. I will do a walkthrough on this but not sure of format to use. So I'll look around.Empty Skull 18:51, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, Empty Skull, your idea works perfectly, and therefore I have added a map and walkthrough on the page, particularly since so many people are still doing it the hard way :¬) Son of Batman 10:23, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
What about with no ursan "blessing" at all? I do all the other hero handbook in HM solo with my heros/henchies... provided they can cast enchants on me. The stupid blessing ruins the plan :S Any workaround to do this without having to use ursan at all? Eth 19:52, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
You can't get through the gates with either Blessing or Aura, but you can always turn it on just long enough to kick in the gates, then back off. 12.203.15.191 02:31, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Ursan blessing bug[edit]

Just so everyone knows, once you get to the guy who gives you the mission version of ursan blessing, you can talk to him again and get it on your bar after you're already under the effects of the blessing. Further more if you have the elite version and use it, then get the mission version and use it, you will get 2 points of energy when you deal damage. --Lou-SaydusHow dare you put that damned dirty thing on me! 16:58, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

SUPPORT PLEASE ![edit]

This quest (particularly in Hard Mode) was obviously designed for a team of Ursans. During the 16 months from the time Ursan Blessing was released untill the time A-net finally made time to nerf it, better players left the game due to the lack of integrity Ursan brought to the titles tracks, which killed any joy one might recieve from what had been intended to be the post game extended play, and lesser players finished all of the content that was intended to take months to complete in days and in some cases hours. So now the people who actually want to play the game are pretty rare and hard to find. It takes hours in EoTN to find a group of people to do anything now. Even spamming to find a group results in 5-50 whispers from people asking if I am running or how much I am charging. I understand that the concept of team-play died when Ursan Blessing was released, but now we are all past that. Some of us still want to play. Can you please fix this quest so that it is at least marginally fun in Hard Mode with heros and Henchies? Maybe change the H/H ai so that they do not stand in AOE and die every single time? At the very very very very least could you put a rez shrine on top of Elmohr Snowmender? I understand that you guys have neither the time nor the inclination to work on any of the problems in EoTN because anyone playing it has already paid for it and as Regina stated more than once during the mass-instant archiving era when Ursan was the only skill anyone used, that you are so busy working on Guild Wars 2....... But some of us don't care about GW2 , or your big paydays, we paid for EoTN, can you please make it playable and /or at least a little bit fun? I understand that the big appeal of Guild Wars these days is thatthere is no monthly fee........... But are you guys really happy with that? I am sure regina will archive this pretty damn quick, or , as she usually does, will whine and get pissy and cite instances of things that have nothing to do with anything in order to confuse the issue and take attention away from it, because she doesn't like what the post contains. But could someone with influence at least go play thru this quest with heros and henchies and then make an assessment ? Please? I loved Prophecies and Nightfall and I would like my characters to max out some title tracks, it is unfair that skipping this quest takes such a huge portion of the Reputation Reward away. PLEASE fix this, I am so sick of grinding thru this with candy canes in HM. Everytime I do it I want to puke. I KNOW other must feel this way. PLEASE A-net, i know you have abandoned GW1, but can't you PLEASE send someone out to review this quest in HM. Please. I have been playing since the game was released and you have never done one thing that has made me happy. PLEASE at least look at this quest in Hard Mode and assess it. Please. We aren't ArenaNet, we're normal players like you... Also, I don't think Regina will look here. --User Brains12 circle sig.png Brains12 \ talk 19:24, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
I have H/H much of the content in the entire PvE storyline in NM & HM (HM this part over 20 times), this may just come down to the way you're playing the game. The AI of the H/H can be annoying at times but if you're more group aware (like a battlefield commander for want of a better term) you can work them to your own formations depending on situation. Use manual controls where you can. The AI is, like players, unreliable but unlike players you can hold their hands a little to move them around. Lol.
I wouldn't hold my breath on the Guild Wars live team looking at matter too closely. 000.00.00.00 19:29, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
I've H&H's this mission more times than I can count in normal and HM. It is completely doable and quite easy. I agree with the above poster in that it's probably your game play, or the heros/hench you choose for the mission. If nothing else, bring 3 competent healers to get you through it. Unfortunately, whining and crying over something trivial like this will get you nowhere, so I suggest you try to get better at the game. That's my only suggestion. 68.226.0.35 20:12, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Oh joy, flamers calling me a whiner! Thats exactly what I have come to expect from this wiki and from Guru and from A-net in general. I don't know if you want me to say WooT for your elitism or fall to my knees and kiss your chaos gloves. In any event, I still think it bears a re-assessment and I care as much for your opinion as you do for mine. Bai now.

can yu say nOOb ?

Lol QQ
Did you know you can change skills on your bar? Mini Me talk 23:07, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Oh yes now I am being called noob. Oh Joy some person that doesn't even know me is judging me to be less than they are. If I showed you my characters then instead of noob and whiner you would say I have no life. Then I would show you my house, car girlfriend and paycheck and you would say something else about me. But I am not rattled, because I have nothing to prove. I still believe that this quest needs to be looked at and reassessed. I know a lot of people just run this. It is not hard to run at all, but I prefer not to cheat and I would very much like to see a-net do SOMETHING to encourage people to actually play the game again. I am sure all the super leet people who got run thru everything don't agree, it is really easy to watch a 600 monk rip thru this. I have done everything in EoTN in HM and NM probably 100 times, and I never cheated with Ursan either. This is the only thing I find to be broken. SUPPORT PLEASE! Some of us still WANT to play. Someone above gave me some good advice at least when they said not to hold my breath waiting for A-net lol. CIAO - (Just delete this post if you feel it is necessary, I realize now how futile it is to appeal to A-net anyways.)72.221.118.93 19:27, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Suggestion Page and Regina's page. Knock yourself out, man.--ShadowFog 16:25, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Nah let's keep this delightful conversation. Someone apparently likes to feed the trolls xD

Don't your hero/henchies use the shrine when you do? So you have an ursan team... but regardless, I have no problems with this mission taking a normal balanced team. They're just Charr, during that actual mission... put up your Ebon Vanguard title if you have trouble. As for the vaettir... well, if you go from Longeyes, and inch up to the shrine, you can actually cap it without defeating ANY enemies at ALL. Discord/Sabway kicks Ursan-way's booty. -batmanhatguy

Capping the shrine in HM[edit]

You can cap the shrine in HM using only heroes! The method is just the same as in heroway capping shrines in Gate Of Madness-simply flag ur heroes near the Bear Shrine and wait a some time. After the shrine is lit wait a bit more and then dash in to get the quest from the Bear Spirit. It might be a good idea to flag your heroes back so you can safely aquire the quest without any aggro.

Beginning the quest[edit]

Quest giver once you have done the mission:

(1) scrying pool,
(2) bear spirit at the shrine in Jaga Moraine.

Although (as mentioned in the main text) you could restart the quest after having finished it by selecting it from the scrying pool's "history", getting the mission from the scrying pool is not necessary. The bear shrine in Jaga Moraine is always active and will activate automatically if you simply clear the area of vattir while standing on the shrine. After killing a few vattir, the shrine's flame will burst forth, and after killing a few more, the spirit bear with the twirling green mission marker will appear. As mentioned in the prior section, "Capping the shrine...", you don't have to fully clear the shrine to run in and get the quest. Once you have activated the quest you can simply run to the nearby portal for Bjora Marshes to begin the mission proper.

This mission can be done easily in Hard Mode with heros and henches, the hardest part imo being to actually get the quest, since killing the mobs of vattir is tedious work. Once you get the Ursain elite skill as a part of this mission, it is quite easy to tank most of the Charr with a little supplemental healing from heros or henches. --Rpger 02:22, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Order of the quest[edit]

Was doing this with my gf and learned something. If you capture the shrine, and THEN go and talk to Ergil Fireteller, he will take you straight to the cutscene for the start of Blood Washes Blood. You wont have to make a return trip to the shrine. After the cutscene you will be teleported back to the shrine.--96.225.138.200 20:40, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

(Wash Rinse And) Repeat[edit]

I just did this quest again (for Hero's Handbook) in NM and I found the alternate path a breeze. Didn't get any pop-ups at all around the Bear Shrine so it was a cakewalk to capture.

Page Update Failed on HM Hero's Handbook[edit]

I'm working on my 2nd Hero's Handbook [Hard Mode], and this page failed to update after completing the mission successfully. I have only this single hero's handbook in my inventory, and I was running in HM, so what else can go wrong? I did the whole official sequence, getting the mission from the Scrying Pool, starting out from Jaga Moraine, lighting the sacred altar, talking to the bear spirit, then leading it into Bjora Marches, acquiring the shrine and obtaining Ursan Aura from it, and then demolishing all the flagged areas and killing everything in the main enclosure. Yet despite the mission terminating successfully and awarding the 2,500 xp, the handbook page didn't update. Any ideas? [This might suggest a reason: I was awarded the xp, but I don't think I received the 150 Norn rep points when the mission terminated. Can anyone explain this?]

My previous HM book went without a hitch, although I travelled to Jaga Moraine from Longeye's Ledge and encountered about a million vattir around the sacred altar which made it pretty hard because they all come at once when lured, so I'd rather avoid that route. Morgaine 14:34, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm redoing it starting from Scrying Pool + Longeye's Ledge again, and this time there was no hoard of vattir at the altar, only one group. I guess the lesson here is to just keep rezoning unless the spawn is a reasonable one. The quest is updating as expected, I hope the handbook does as well this time. Morgaine 15:08, 28 January 2011 (UTC) The handbook updated this time, wierd. The only difference from last time was that I came in from Longeye's Ledge. It seems that page updates are just buggy. Morgaine 16:55, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

You don't have to go through as many steps as you do on repeats, so you can save yourself some time. Of course, that has nothing to do with your book failing to update. But the books are wonderfully reliable; if you have them in your inventory, they update; almost no glitches are reported (and those that are can usually be traced to a non-book issue or user error).
The vaettir hordes around the shrine are normal in HM (although you can avoid them using the hero-capping trick; see walkthrough). Since you did the mission again, there's no particular way to test what might/might not have happened. One thing you can always try is to visit any of the book collectors; if there's something you didn't get credit for, they will offer to update the book for you (for 100Gold per missing entry).
Good luck.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:31, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I've done it a few times since then, in both NM and HM, and the updates went perfectly every time, so I'm puzzled what went wrong on that particular occasion. I guess we'll never know. Morgaine 06:50, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I've also had my book fail to update, did it in nm, book didn't update, although I got the rewards, went to a book collector, no offer to update my book, and the primary quest in my quest log says I did the quest. Raijjn

Thanks[edit]

I'd just like to state how helpful the repeat section is in doing the mission, I used it and the mission was done in about 30mins without any deaths, good job Wiki! Zachariah Zuan. 15:39, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Egil Fireteller (NPC Ally)[edit]

NPC allies are usually a welcome addition; however the skill set for Egil Fireteller doesn't seem all that helpful for the related quests. In my view, conditions are not that useful against the EoN Charr (though they are against the Mandragor); however, he has Anthem of Flame, Barbed Spear, and Stunning Strike. More Motivation/support skills and pure damage spear attacks would be more useful. Lord Flynt (talk) 18:16, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
