Skill Tweaks 07/26/07[edit]

  • Castigation Signet: 10..60 damage 20r -> 26..56 damage 15r please put new skill numbers feedback here. ~Izzy @-'---- 23:10, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
The emanagement potential on that thing is getting pretty amazing actually, considering it's in an attribute that you usually want to max. Is it me or Me/Mo smiters at 12 Smite with MoI can actually gain more energy/second out of this than out of any other Inspiration skill at the same attribute, including Power Drain? Power Drain at 12 insp is .8E/sec, and this in MoI at 12 insp/12 smite is around .89E/s. Don't really understand the point of the damage change though, was it doing too high damage at high attrib? Too low at mid attrib? Patccmoi 02:52, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Unlike the other smiting signets, if you leave this one at the current energy gain and recharge I'd actually suggest a two second cast time... That is, if smiters become popular. User GD Defender sig.png 07:28, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
I love the new version, I wouldn't really like on a 2sec cast as it may lead the spell to be used by mesmer primaries only. I think you should adjust bane signet with a 15r too so they work the same way. I really love the enhancements to smite and I am really looking forward to trying these new skills ! --Faena 08:22, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Wow, I like it. This could finally be a reason to play my Smite monk... :P Arshay Duskbrow 10:22, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
This is a great addition to the smiting prayers line. I think this skill is balanced enough as it is.
Another tool in the belt of the signet smiter. --Ckal Ktak 14:45, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Great skill, energy management for Smiting, won't see lots of smiters running Inspiration skills with this :p but i find the energy gain a bit strong, i suggest lowering it by one or two points. ~~ Azul Frigid Armor.jpg 08:27, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
NO. No lowering. After two years of being pariahs, Smite monks could finally have a chance for decency with a skill like this. No lowering, please. Arshay Duskbrow 08:42, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Yeah don't lower the energy gain. It makes smiting look more appealing and it'll keep a many monks from relying on Me secondary. :D --Redfeather 00:10, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

This beats the shit out of Defenders Zeal --Argonus 06:53, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Original skill feedback[edit]

Strange progression damage when compared to it's sister skill Bane Signet.--IIvIIRRIIvII 01:13, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

whats this? castration signet?

That's what I read at first glance... Sirocco 04:47, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Glad I'm not the only one. I read it, went o_O and clicked. --Span 08:05, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
The fact that Castration Signet now redirects to this page is particularly epic. Well done. 69.131.85.111 00:12, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

With the addition of this skill to the artificer's arsenal, maybe we might finally have a viable signet smiting build? 203.217.0.53 05:56, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Goes well with a Me/Mo FC mesmer with Signet of Judgement, obviously. --MasterPatricko 08:39, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
yat another 20 secound recharge signet in the smiting line....cus the ones we have alrdy are sooooo popular arent they? Quazark Zeklar UserQuazark Zeklar lifebond.jpg 10:40, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
This one can be somewhat used as energy management though. Granted not the best at around .5 energy per second, but it beats the hell outta Bane Signet. --Deathwing 10:59, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

lmao. For one second there, I read castration. Lightblade 01:14, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

With MoI that's actually damn good for a smite monk or Me/Mo. At 11-12s recharge, you potentially have nearly elite emanagement level, and an 'attacking foe' is not exactly hard to find. Patccmoi 06:08, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
It can be a good skill with MoI, but imo to make smite and signets more widely used, skills should be good with out the need of a combo and great with one. I would especially like the recharge to go down to 15s which would make it a solid e-management skill and would also add a bit of pressure.

This SCREAMS "spike with me and use the energy gain to finish up the spike". 69.109.171.112 16:11, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

lol yeah lets all go spike with our 60dmg signents and wait another 20 seconds before we can spike again. it's not like it will take 10 people to spike one person down. maybe only 8 or 9. Oh yeah and smiting is just so useful for damage, definantly prefer this over rit spike /sarcasm--Lou-Saydus 19:16, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

This skill gives more net energy than Signet of Recall. And does damage to boot. Signet of Recall need some luvin. :O --Redfeather 00:05, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Translation Suggestions[edit]

To avoid some bad skill translations i'm opening a comment for new skills so everybody can post their translation suggestions in various languages, have fun :) --YukoIshii 23:43, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Italian: Sigillo del Castigo. --YukoIshii 23:43, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Nerf[edit]

Why'd they nerf this? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Crimmastermind (talk).

according to the Developer updates page (off the main page) "Castigation Signet allowed heavily defensive characters to participate in spikes without negatively affecting their defensive roles, so we have adjusted its recharge to lower the overall damage output of this skill." --Falseprophet 20:22, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
As opposed to...actually lowering the dmg output initially.....hmmmm . Figures Nay the One and Only User Nay the One and Only SIG.png 22:04, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Since this is obviously much more useful as a damage dealer than as one of the few e-management skills for monks - VileLasagna 13:33, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
You have to understand.....the Anet devs don't GvG and barely understand it. Look at pretty much every nerf GvG smiters have ever gotten. They have no idea what people use them for. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 15:22, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
They did the right thing, they just didn't understand why they did it. Misery 15:23, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
^ was more or less what I meant. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 15:44, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Also, it was actually a nerf for standard heal/prot monks. Lolrawrspike. Misery 15:49, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Barely related-> It's still is annoying that monks keep getting so much problems with e-management. Humans do fine but heroes are a real challenge to make work. And wasn't Divine Favour supposed to have "several skills that relate to energy gain"? Where has that gone? I mean, besides Scribe's Insight that is not really worth an elite slot (/rant) - VileLasagna 01:32, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Besides Scribe's Insight... like Blessed Signet, the old Boon Signet, Divine Spirit, and the old Peace and Harmony? O.K., most of those are no good either. -~=Ϛρѧякγ User Sparky, the Tainted charr sig.PNG (τѧιк) 00:20, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Divine Spirit is pretty godly if you can keep it up for more than 3 seconds. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 02:21, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
I can when I'm running my monk, it's the heroes that always give me the rage. I kinda surrendered and have been running a battery with them. It's working real great, actually. I can even put Protective Spirit on Tahlkora's bar - VileLasagna 18:31, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Castration Signet[edit]

You suffer from Deep Wound and Cracked Armor for x..y..z seconds, and take x..y..z damage. All foes and allies within earshot take x..y..z laugh damage every second for 20 seconds. --Teisei 「ページ」 「会話」 07:19, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Hero Behaviour[edit]

As expected, heroes use it even against targets that aren't attacking. Cealdor (talk) 21:48, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for your testing! It seems a lot of skills that deal damage and then have some sort of other effect dependent on a conditional factor being met have the corresponding AI use the skill for vanilla damage without considering the condition. I know that this is true of a lot of channeling magic skills that do direct damage back when I did some hero AI testing on them. Soldier198 (talk) 23:01, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
