Gaze of Fury[edit]

In response to User:Ab.er.rant's revert, I've got to disagree. Both skills can be used to destroy friendly and enemy spirits, a fact that can be useful in both Sunjiang District and Finding a Purpose. Certainly if that's what you're looking at Consume Soul for, a link to the non-elite alternative is handy. - Tanetris 07:23, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Ah I see, thanks for explaining. I wasn't looking at it from the target point of view. I'll go undo my change then. Are there other skills that can target enemy spirits? If there are, they should be linked to. Shouldn't Gaze of Fury link to this as well then? -- ab.er.rant sig 01:18, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
A good question! Going through the ritualist skills, the only other one I see with a somewhat-similar ability to destroy enemy spirits would be Signet of Creation, though that one's a double-edged sword, and it's not an insta-destroy like Consume Soul and Gaze of Fury... If you think it should go in, feel free. And yes, there should probably be a backlink to here from GoF. I always forget that. Doing that now. - Tanetris 11:03, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
This skill fails. Raptaz 14:07, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Raptaz, instead of complaining like you did in the chat of the non elite of this, try explaining why 'This skill fails.'? -84.70.194.245 03:13, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Because if enough people are in need of a massive heal like this to make it reach its greatest potential, your team is likely on the verge of a wipe. If your team is on the verge of a wipe, they're probably too panicked to calmly gather 'round the spirit for this skill to reach its full potential. And when your team isn't on the verge of a wipe, this skill is massive overkill that will likely only affect a few people who don't need it (the backline). There's just better alternatives for party-wide heals. --onoes! Mafaraxas 11:25, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Looks like it has amazing CM potential to me. Barkingllama 00:00, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Nah. It's just bad. Needs moar range. And less bad.--Fallen (talk) 18:08, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Change it to allies within earshot healed for 30...200 health (or some reduced amount), imo. Then it might be comparable to Divine Healing and might bring back more restoration-focused rits into PvP. --click moar Mafaraxas 18:34, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

There are definitely better elites available for ritualists, but this does not prevent this skill being fun for a Rt/A in AB. =)Annoying that you have to select the spirit individually. User PizzaboyFaul icon.jpg Faul 07:16, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

August 08 update[edit]

Wow! talk about a heal.

mmmm, a N/Rit could have fun with this to stack a bunch of HP Stealing skills on their bar... SabreWolf 17:42, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
The current wording is off, as you can only steal a spirit's full health, not a summoned creature (specifically a minion). Made me sad as I tramped off to destroy a MM's army in AB. 66.56.218.206 21:54, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
should have to be rt/n for consume to steal anything, and life steal is very weak anyway. --AnorithUser Anorith Grenths Grasp.jpgTalk 01:07, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Looks like this skill was changed to counter Order of Undeath. --68.32.187.152 04:00, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Except! The new Order of Undeath counters itself because it sucks! =O RitualRitualistDoll 21:33, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Ohhh lolololol! Too bad I hear this is bugged where it won't kill minions. :S Sauce: [1] --68.32.187.152 22:24, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Even if it didnt, the only thing that separate this from Taste of Death is that you can steal health from a foe spirit and has a recharge time. It has to be spirit, it has to be from the foe and the initial stealing from anything else is too low compare to other life stealing skills from...lets say Nightmare Weapon. I dont see how this merit a elite status. We need a feedback for this skill to report its bug since its clear the Izzy and their team are not making any intentions to fix the text or the skill due to its bug. So who's the first to start a feedback?(No, im not making the first one.)--ShadowFog 00:06, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Doesn't seem to be very useful in PvE due to the lack of summoned creatures there. As for PvP, horrible for high end, and maybe at best viable for spirit spammers in like RA or AB. Definitely doesn't really deserve an elite status imo. — Eloc 19:42, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

I can see this having some merit in HA. People there love running things such as NR, EoE and other ranger spirits...This skill would be the most effecient way to bring them down, depending on how tight your builds are. 71.127.159.233 05:41, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Anybody else notice the quick recharge on this baby? Could make for an interesting spike team, one which keeps itself alive by life steal. All it'd take are 6 out of 8 on a team to wipe someone out in 5 seconds time. (initial cast + 5 seconds recharge + recast for up to 720 life steal). --80.16.169.162 15:42, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Plus arcane echo could be fairly effective..

Hmmm, can you still steal your own's spirit's health? Halogod35 User Halogod35 Sig.jpg 21:48, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Guess not, that's really gay. :o Halogod35 User Halogod35 Sig.jpg 22:20, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that this affects minions. The wardens are constantly eating my bone fiends. :/--69.156.105.44 00:02, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

March 22 update[edit]

At last a way to deal with MM in FA. On a side note: I'm glad I'm done vanquishing Cantha. O_o - Ander01 09:37, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Notes[edit]

"Since all the ritualist Wardens in Kurzick territory use this skill as elite (even though they seem to have no points in spawning power) players depending on spirits have it very hard in this areas since their spirits are often destroyed at the start of the battle" - lol wut? Correcting grammar... He Who Likes Arrows 21:30, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Way to improve this skill[edit]

Take out the word summoned =) --Robot Ninja Pirate 19:51, 5 April 2009 (UTC) Robot Ninja Pirate

I got a better idea. What you suggested, but a signet, with 0 activation time and 0 recharge, and it cannot be Diverted. Maybe this way it will be better. Titani Ertan contributions 09:52, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

This vs. Flesh Golem[edit]

As if Flesh Golem wasn't already weak compared to Aura of the Lich. If anyone brings this elite, anyways. <>Sparky, the Tainted 20:11, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Just to be sure,[edit]

Using this on a minion will kill it, right? Since they count as summoned creatures? --Aldarik 21:05, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Yes. I think. personn5User Personn5 sig.jpg 21:10, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
Minions&Spirits are summoned creatures, therefor yes. Although, I am curious about Asura Summons. Titani User Titani Ertan Sig2.jpg Ertan 05:20, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Does this work on Dhumm's summoned minions? if so look at MObway PvXwiki page --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:66.194.217.223 (talk).

Armor of Unfeeling[edit]

Would Armor of Unfeeling reduce the 100% lifesteal from spirits to 50%? -Athena Dominus 18:00, 28 August 2010 (UTC) (edit - clarified the question)

Damage and life steal are two different things in this game. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 01:23, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Elite huh?[edit]

I always wondered why this is an elite in the first place. It can destroy one summoned creature every five seconds. So what? - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 01:23, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

It has uses so it isnt broken.--83.82.62.210 18:01, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Update[edit]

Really showing your creativity, Anet. (*cough* Spiritual Pain *cough) This skill was a problem before because secondaries could use it to neutralize spirits in GvG. A proper way of addressing the problem would be giving it a failure rate by not having a requirement of at least 4-5 Spawning Power. Instead, a equivalent (if not, worse) alternative to a non-elite Mesmer skill with the same scaling of damage. Conclusion? Dicks. 128.119.169.132 19:23, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Only just twice as spammable as Spiritual pain (PVP) rechargewise, but this difference becomes totally irrelevant in PVE (Fast Casting folks). Not worthy of its elite status unless they add something else. Maybe additional Life-steal against all affect spirits? -Wrei110.175.241.56 14:10, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Different classes are different. Pjwned 20:25, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Yet the 'elite's' effects are updated to copy another non elite skill of a different class? Not very 'different' -Wrei110.175.241.56 03:40, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Only Ritualists can run this now... but why should they? --Falconeye 17:46, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
They should change the damage vs spirits to life stealing. MR IP

The only reason for adding this skill to the skills bar was to turn Slavers Exile from being a royal pain (Summoner + ambient spirits) into a totally fun place. Now the only remaining reason is ... oh wait, there is no remaining reason. Way to go, Anet. Whatever happened to the mantra of "GW is designed to be fun"? Well Consume Soul was great fun in PvE because it removed an annoyance with a single cast, and fun is worth an elite slot. It was very bad for PvP, but that was no reason to change it in PvE.
