How to kill disc of chaos guide![edit]

kill all the other groups of destroyer, and then when Disc of Chaos is by itself all you have to do is to keep on activate/powerup all the G.O.L.E.M which cost around 15 energy each and let them do the damage; make sure they are set on melee and just stay away unless the GOLEM's are shut down. My group did this technique with 60% Death Penalty with 5 melee 1 ranger and 2 monks healing all 3 G.O.L.E.M--Ridz16 02:39, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I found the Disc of Chaos fairly easy, although a tedious battle because of its high hitpoints. Because the Disc of Chaos casts spells, a mesmer set with all interrupts, and maybe also an interrupt archer with a daze spell or two, completely shuts down the Disc's spell casting. Also, if your healers heal the golems as the Chaos Disc attacks them (apparently even without spells the Chaos Disc still has a weak attack much like everyone does, like a wand damage), the Disc will preferentially waste time in an endless loop of weak attacks on the golems who are being healed. I actually only needed one golem to block the Disc since it couldn't cast any spells, and that one golem was being healed by two healers.
This is what I did: After killing the weaker destroyers surrounding the Disc, I flagged my henches up the stairs where they would be safe. Then I led the golems (set to ranged or defense) down the stairs near where the Disc was holding its position. I let the golems aggro the Disc from the bottom of the stairs. Once aggroed, the Disc will move closer to the golems to burn them with it's proximity attack spells (like flame burst). It will usually take a few seconds for the Disc to disable the golems, so in that time, reflag your henches to the top of the stairs, close enough to heal the golems at the bottom of the stairs but out of aggro range of the Disc. I also set up a Vampirism spirit at the top of the lower flight of stairs. I put the mesmer interrupt hero on attack mode, and then just sat back to watch the fun. I also had an interrupt ranger, but I think I probably didn't need him, as the mesmer was much faster in shutting down the Disc. By the time I had everyone reflagged, there was only one active golem left. But that was all that was needed. For several minutes the golems and Disc traded weak punches, but unlike the Disc, the golems were being healed, and my Vampirism spirit was also slowly sucking the life out of the Disc 20 hp at a time. Every now and then to speed things up I threw the Alkar's Alchemical Acid spell at the Disc which added another 106 points of damage. No one had to move or run around. One just has sit there since the Disc remains stationary next to the golems "wanding" them in futility.
Eventually, I got tired of the slow drain, so put my water ele hero on attack as well, letting him maelstrom the Disc, adding to the interruption efforts of the mesmer hero. It was a complete shutdown of the Disc without any running around. All I did was renew the Vampirism spirit every 150 seconds, and occasionally throw the Alchemical Acid to speed things up. It took awhile but was quite easy compared to most dungeon bosses. --Rpger 05:52, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Help Requested[edit]

ummm, is this quest doable with npc's if you are a warrior?

walkthrough plz been stuck on this miss all day. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:TehBuG .

only noobs cant beat this just lure destroyers pull em kill repat --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.36.202.128 .

Ummm yeah its hard for warriors. At 60% DP your average warrior has under 10 energy. He cant really operate the golems....

nice attampt to troll. that y u diddnt sign? anyways, i was talking about the norn part its excedingly difficult. my advice (after beating the miss) is to bring powerstones and pull from near the res shrine. -TehBuG-
The Norn part was a little difficult, and I did have a party wipe there (except for Talon, who managed to stay up and fighting the whole time), but the res shrine is just a few steps away, and charging back into them finished them off even with everyone at 15-30% DP. I'd recommend bringing AoE damage that isn't fire or earth damage (water is fine, SS would work; personally, I bring Razah with Ancestors' Rage, Splinter Weapon, and Spirit Rift -- works quite well). A necro with SV can take down the boss within a few seconds. Mesmers and necros are quite useful here with their armor-ignoring damage and life stealing. I could see Enfeebling Blood being useful as the warriors hit on your casters pretty hard, and some interrupts or daze are also helpful. I'm not sure what mode is best on the golems (I used two ranged, one defense). Bcstingg 14:33, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
I tried this yesterday and ended up with 60%DP at the norn part. For ages we tried to kill them one by one which was successful.. until about 3 more groups came, then we gave up. I would say AoE is the key here. Also get all three golems set to melee. Future User Future Signature.png 09:21, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
I completed the norn part in a very strange way. everyone was at 60dp, and my golems were all deactivated one at a time. i tried to charge teh group, but all but my 3 tanks (jora, talon, devona) were still alive. I don't know how, but nothing was able to hit them. at first, I thought the golems were causing obstruction, but that wouldnt explain the inability of enemy melee attacks. it was quite odd.
Just beat this today...it really isn't difficult at all. The only weird part for me was when my party got to the Ebon Vanguard section, the Vanguard actually turned hostile and started attacking my party... -AyaStowar
It makes things a lot easier if you can run past the Dryders at the entrance to this area without aggro-ing them - they will then do a surprisingly good job at holding up destroyers that come from that side, meaning that you don't get so swamped in the midde.--Son of Batman 19:11, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Stay on the ice bridge. Use Golems and minions to body block the destroyers on the right side of the bridge. It's really easy to kill all enemies with AoE skills. Don't worry if Norns get killed. If you have a ranger bring WinterNikademo 06:21, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

If you wipe at the point the 3 Norn stand, the place will fill pretty soon with destroyers. The workaround i used for this is going all around using the bridge and then turn left at the end of it thus getting a height advantage from the destroyers. Now flag your heroes/henches at the top of that slope and try luring the destroyers there. You 'll see that they will split if you lure them thus making the fight much easier. Eth 10:42, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Also when you enter the room with the 3 Norn and the bridge, there are some spiders to your left hand. DON'T kill them. When the destroyers come that way they will fight each other, without aggroing the Norn at all so they kinda help a bit. For general destroyer killing its better to go with degen mesmers, life stealing necros and such. They have quite high armor so try to use heroes and henches which bypass armor. If you bring Ele's make them Air/Earth/Water, not Fire. Eth 11:24, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
I (elemtalist) h/h hm with a standard discordway setup and alkar's acid. I wiped once during the destroyer assault, but thats only because i was being lazy and didnt move my party when we got surrounded. I took the golems, but i left their professions the same (melee, ranged and a defense). Disc of chaos didnt take too long, no one died, golem setup was the same. I left this one last for my hero handbook, but it wasnt too bad. The decline 10:55, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Reacquiring this quest.[edit]

Is anyone else having problems reacquiring this quest? I've completed GW:EN, but need this quest for the handbook, and Jalis will not give me this quest, even with the MDG in my inventory. 82.16.72.164 20:29, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

No problem here. Shouldn't it be the Hero's Handbook, not the dungeon book? --Valshia 20:42, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
If you've already completed GW:EN, did you talk to the Scrying Pool to get this quest back in your log (it's not required for credit in most quests, but it couldn't hurt...)
Been to the pool, it's offering all the other quests apart from this one. I know I've done this quest so why isn't it being offered. I can post a screencap of the pool's offering for proof if required. 82.16.72.164 22:41, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Did the quest tonight with some guildees. Got a warning that I was doing the story out of order and wouldn't get the reward. Sure enough I didn't. And now I the pool will not offer me A Time For Heroes. However, I've completed Against the Destroyers so I can't do 'Heart Of The Shiverpeaks', which is where I think the game thinks I'm still @. Tried to do it with another person who had the quest, and got nothing... /sigh 82.16.72.164 00:36, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Can't reacquire this quest at all! Scrying pool doesn't have it, Jalis doesn't have it. ARGH STUPID GAME, waste of money. 18:09, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

The above comment wasn't added by me, but I'm still having this problem. 81.144.246.195 18:09, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Well either this could be why it was made destructions depths, or maybe its coincidence, or MAYBE it was made after the mission and was based on the mission. Might not have any relevance at all, though. 67.50.106.222 14:03, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Central Transfer Chamber[edit]

If I do this quest with a person that hasn't done all of GWEN, will he also end up in CTC?

Yes, they are allowed to tag along and get ferried to the CTC, but won't receive credit for the quest. --Valshia 19:19, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
thanks for answering my question too :D i cant wait to get mah sin past all the asuran quests- ew X_X --Valion Sentis 22:51, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

You cant do the last mission though if u skip.

Destruction's Depths HM[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

I have a GWEN HM hero handbook with all quests completed except Destruction's Depths and A Time For Heroes. Where do I get Destruction's Depths quest? It's not in my scrying pool and Jalis in Battledepths has nothing for me. I did the quest thinking it may update automatically but the book was not updated. Note that others seem to be having this problem too, see the discussion page for Destruction's Depths. I want to complete my handbook! Thanks! --Doodle01 16:57, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Ain't it in the battledepths at King Jalis?? -- The Warrior Of Timi 17:28, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
King Jalis has Destruction's Depths. For your use; Destruction's Depths and A Time for Heroes. The Search option on this site would also have lead you to the pages as well. House Of Furyan 18:45, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
The missions D.D. and A.T.F.H. seems to be functioning ok for me. Jalis has DD for me and he's in the Battledepths and High Priest Alkar has the Time for Heroes mission for me in the Central Transfer Station. Everything seems to be looking ok.House Of Furyan 18:56, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
A serious issue has been noted before in trying to re-aquire this quest for some people. I'm afraid you're stuck until ANet finds a way to fix it. --Valshia 19:14, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, odd. Well, I hope they can resolve the issue. House Of Furyan 19:22, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback. I have talked to Jalis many times to no avail. I guess since it's already being looked into I just have to wait. Those last two quests are worth a lot of Deldi points. Getting Deldi points is already a sore spot for me because I did not know that NM books can't be submitted at levels 8+ and I when I filled my NM book I had just gotten to level 8. A warning should display in the dialog when you talk to a Beacon of Droknar in NM and you are at level 7, but that's another issue... --Doodle01 22:06, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
You should be able to get ATFH by talking to Alkar and simply entering the mission. That's what I did, anyway. Bit weird for Jalis to not have DD though. Nbajammer User Nbajammer sig.png 07:01, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
I just finished it on HM with heroes/henchies. So don't complain its hard anyone. I am a warrior, used Dunkoro as prot monk, Livia as N/Rt healer, Morghan with mostly leadership skills and some spear mastery, Herta, Lina, Mhenlo and Lo Sha. Also i want to say that all of my heroes have no runes/insignia on them at all and only Dunkoro has an elite skill on him. The weapons are the default i got them also and i didn't used any consumables at all. Only the Delver title to get the stout-hearted buff. We finished with about 20% average Death Penalty - only died at the 3 norm place once or twice each. Eth 14:39, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Harder than before[edit]

When you reach the Norn place the spiders do not stand a chance against the Destroyers. My elementalist gets ridiculous amounts of damage: sun and moon slash: 98! protectors strike: 338! Power attack: 232!

On lvl three after you enter and activate golems go to left kill spiders and stalagties go onto ice bridge head back toward norn when you get to end of ice bridge back up enough so that you can use powered down golems to block bridge flag behind golems on bridge and use a ranged weapon like a long bow to aggro once they are agroed back up a bit so you will not be obstructed golems block destroyers from getting to you in powered down mode and makes it easier to kill them

Disk of Chaos[edit]

It eats henchmen alive. If you're doing this without a group of real people, you'll want to be VERY careful when it decides it's time to move out of AoE's. When it does so, it seems to run straight for your 'backline' (henchmen don't really follow lines >.<) and kill the entire group with flame burst. Noelahg 17:45, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Do you think that using spells like Vow of Silence would help defend against the ridiculous damage that it does with its spells and just have a ton of bonders?
Prot spirit on a hero is the way i've been dealing with it. If you're H/H just go light on the melee if possible. with only one person near it, its damage isn't hard to deal with. I put the golems on ranged for this reason. Also, doing NM book runs, ive started bringing no AoE at all (aside from SS and splinter weapon) so it doesn't make the backline dash. Noelahg 02:11, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
My henchmen are killing while I type. With unlimited lives, who cares? Oh, and I'm a warrior on 60% DP so I can't make Golems with 10 energy hahaha... Dimzmsfa 14:45, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

My Thoughts and Builds[edit]

THE HARDEST mission to do.. especially on Hard Mode... I steamrolled through it on NM easily with a friend but Hard Mode is another story. In the last room of the first level my party wipes. Post builds of h/h and your successes please? :)--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:MRD (talk). Forgot to sign

Our party has beaten it in hm today. It wasn't easy though. We had two sword warriors, a rit (maybe channeling), an ele (air spiker i think), a healer hero, and a standard sabway hero setup. The team was really powerful, but even so we had several wipes at the norn area, and later at the disc. We managed to finish, but only because we used candy and powerstones. --Adul 00:59, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

"All destroyers will aggro when the disk of chaos attacks"[edit]

This didn't happen to me on my one time through the mission, a few weeks ago, but there might be some special conditions that cause it to occur that i just didn't follow.

For anyone curious, I killed a couple groups of destroyers on the stairs, than just aggro bubble pulled the disk of chaos a bit up the left set of stairs and attacked it.

I don't doubt that some other people have had destroyers aggro, but this did have a big discussion on guildwiki as well, so maybe under certain conditions they will aggro, and some they won't.Tambora 21:44, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

I belive all the groups aggro only if you get close to the center where the Disk origanaly spawns. I was able to clear the first two groups and pull the Disk away with the other two in the back not moving an inch. As soon as i moved to where the Disk orriganly was the back two groups then attaked me, despite being well out of aggro range. So, yeah i think steping near the center is what triggers the aggro. --MorazaDarkheart 17:37, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

time?[edit]

estimated time? Took me well over an hour. maybe 2. ~ Dimitri

With h/h on NM, it should take about 1:15-1:20 if you re doing it right. However it would take much longer if its your first time there. Eth 23:29, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't take nearly as long as you estimate. Are you stopping to eat a sandwich or something? Pucktrapper 18:19, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
On HM with 8 Human players it took me around 50-60 min. Just a PuG group and no special builds. Flaming Hot Chilli 00:01, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Are you kidding me? This take's tops 35 min with h/h in hm QuePedito 08:38, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

My Builds[edit]

Used this to successfully do the mission.

First you should pull the 2 groups by the stairs with a bow up onto the next level and kill them, then when you get to the Disc, continuously recharge the Golems and eventually they will not die and the Disc will.

My H/H: I used Dunkoro as HB monk, Tahlkora as prot monk, Vekk waster ele , and me a group healer rit. hench: Devona , Talon , Zho , Lo Sha. mission done in about 1 hour with only 1 wipe at the disc
I always use this build. It work perfectly. No wipe at all. (I do take the 2 warrior and the 2 monk hench with me) F. C. Sauër 16:48, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

LMAO OMG[edit]

LOL I reached the group of 4 dwarfs b4 the final gate and then went to the wiki to check if I missed anything, the moment I read "If you stay long enough a huge group of destroyers will come and kill off these dwarves, I went back to GW to surely find everyone was dying LOL.

The same thing happened to me with the mission Moddok Crevice, I was reading what was the last suggestion of Dunkoro and when it said that you need to stop 2 guys from running and warning the others I switched to GW only to see the guys long gone XDD--Batousai 18:46, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Completed mission and it did not register...[edit]

Is this a bug or something? I spent 45 minutes on this mission and after the cut scene there was no completion flag but I was sent to central transfer chamber. I am so depressed I need to redo that again /facepalm x Kasei 00:50, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

same here...me and partner finished it in HM for book...except we realised too late after finishing that it didnt go into book. Definitely bugged. Partner handed in book and missed out on full book reward, i need to do it again to fill book. :( (bah forgot password to log in to wiki too) (found my password againin my head, fixing it now) Incidentally, it also means my partner didnt max her asura title as she was expecting....where do i report bugs again? Jaime 14:25, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Changing golem modes[edit]

I don't know if this qualifies as a bug, but: I've been re-running this to fill up some books, and it is really irritating to try to change the golems from one mode to another when they keep walking away from you. If you're changing the mode on more than one, you'll end up clear across the room by the time you've chased the stupid things down. Yet somehow, when you're trying to click on something else, they manage to get right in the way. Anet really needs to fix the golem AI on this mission. Seriously, minions are smarter than these things! -- Tekn0mancer User Tekn0mancer-Awaken the Blood 19px sig.jpg talk 18:30, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

No, it won't qualify as a bug but rather it is an ally AI behavior which probably isn't suited for golems. --Lania ElderfireUser Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg 20:23, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Attributing to the GOLEM behavior. Because for some stupid reason they are always AHEAD of you, they may pull mobs that you don't want to be pulled. Be careful, hopefully this gets fixed.

Mobbed![edit]

I've tried following some of the advice on this page, but without success. I have beat this mission 2x with other characters (my ele and my rng), but can't seem to get it with my necro. It just seems that there is something... different ...and I can't place my finger on it. We do ok until the largest group of destroyers show up. We get completely overwhelmed. I play solo most of the time, requesting parties only for the most difficult missions (usually the final mission in a storyline). My character is a blood necro using mainly life steal. Any good advice on how to set up my hero's and henchies, as well as some strategies, would be most appreciated. --Kass Munroe 02:48, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

PS: This at the part with the three Norn's. Lol, thought that might be helpful in getting some advice.

EDIT: Never mind the advice, I got it done with all heroes and henchies. Jora as a hammer tank w/interrupts, Ogden as full heals, and Xandra as a spirit spammer. Also with Lo Sha, Lina, Devona, and Talon. I went as blood/minion master. Not going to give any strategy, because I did it by the seat of my pants with -60% DP by the time we finished with the area with the Norn's (That's with having used a Powerstone of Courage after reaching -60% once, then hitting -60% again.). My third time to do this mission and it was the hardest time of the three. Never doing it again, so don't ask... >_>,

Hah, sounds similar to my experience playing it, even the Powerstone bit. I got through by using the golems to blockade the bridge, and picking the destroyers off one-by-one like that. Still died a lot though. :/ – NuclearDuckie 10:33, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I tried to get the golems to die there, but they are, shall we say... stupid! They wouldn't die there and ended up dying in the middle of the spot where the destroyers clump together when you wipe. I couldn't reactivate them and ended up doing most of that area without their help. Lol, just glad to have it out of the way now. The last mission is a breeze compared to this one. :o) Kass Munroe 23:24, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Norn zone[edit]

Two things to say about this in H/H:

  • Honeycombs
  • Kill the Avatar of Destruction as soon as possible

Honeycombs are a (relatively) cheap form of DP removal, in particular one that does not use skill points, nor copious granite slabs, to acquire - just mule them across from Pre-Searing. 'Nuff said.

The Avatar of Destruction? Simple. I was bouncing back and forth between the battle and the rez shrine, and eventually switched to killing the AoD. Wiped one more time as the others finished me off, then I toasted the rest of the destroyers, about six or seven of them, without anyone on my team dying.

All that, and for the whole quest I only got four Destroyer Cores, bah. Cynique 13:01, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

How to make Level 2 extremely easy[edit]

I played it on: Hard Mode (HM) | First set all golems to melee. When you get to the part you have to protect the norn from destroyers. Go left and kill 1-2 groups. Then get on the Ice Bridge and AFK there for about 5-10 minutes. When you come back there should be around 20~ destroyers waiting for you. Now give the front line some protection and have the golems and the front line run and there should be a huge ball of destroyers. Now if you have an AoE team, you should be able to spike them down fast. I had around 15+ spirits fighting for me, and Panic and Ineptitude mesmers that gave them all rupting and blind. I also had a 16 Channeling ritualist that put Splinter on me. Then they died around 10 seconds and the final groups of destroyers came out. At that point I just finished them out without running away. If you think you can't handle them, then run to bridge. Then you can go to level 3 which is also very easy. Here is a screen: http://i52.tinypic.com/2zpv2ih.jpg --Braxton619 15:48, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Glitch with Olaf?[edit]

Is anyone else having an issue where after the fight with the destroyers on level 2, the Norn all die (including Olaf) and don't res to open the door/break the ice? I stood there for a good 20 minutes waiting to see if they would res or something but nothing happened so I couldn't finish the dungeon. Here's a picture: http://i45.tinypic.com/n8c2v.jpg --Hana Hwa 18:18, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

How do I wake the G.O.L.E.M.s up?[edit]

I click on the Golems, and all they have to say is: "Systems on standby. Crystal core requires additional power..." I cannot do this without them, can I? Or, better yet, What have I f****d up? For now, I am going for a suicide run!!! (Ugh!)

I click on them, and all they say is: "Systems on standby. Crystal core requires additional power." WTF does that even mean?!?--199.116.115.134 20:59, 20 March 2020 (UTC)
According to the timeline, or whatever... Level 3: Once in the chamber, File:Activate the golems again. This room is not very big, and the goal is simple: defeat all the Destroyers there. Clear the nearest groups then pull the Disc of Chaos up the stairs (or just leave it for last), as its devastating, powerful attacks are much easier to suppress when it is by itself. Most of its attacks are point-blank, so standard tanking procedures should be sufficient until it is defeated. Setting the golems to ranged may keep them active longer. Alternatively, having the golems set to defensive and staying within their range is viable if you are having trouble keeping your party alive. Because the disc is an Elementalist, assigning one character to daze it and attack it with a weapon will nearly eliminate the threat it poses.
Please tell us, how in the hell does one Activate The Golems, Again?!?--199.116.115.134 23:43, 20 March 2020 (UTC)
Every time I get in this situation, the three Goloms do NOTHING. Interacting with them does absolutely NOTHING. Why are they there? I wonder... It seems like everyone else has no problem with this particular quest. So, why me? What have I done to the five Gods? Or... Is everyone else keeping quiet, and laughing at us suckers, because we can't figure things out? But, then I think... No; because these citizens are good people.
OK, enough of this kind of Bullsh*t. Who knows why these assh*les won't activate?!? Please?!?
What's your maximum energy? The article says you activate them by expending 15 energy each time. Blue Totoro 23:47, 20 March 2020 (UTC)
