summon animation[edit]

Anyone noticed the weird icon apearing above the spirit after summoning? just thought I mention =) 85.202.20.146 16:15, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, it has huge boobs with eyes. 66.235.19.98 23:17, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Energy Cost[edit]

Why was this left at 25 energy after the Binding Rituals were split? The spirit itself only has about ~50% uptime without modifers and does average damage. The other Communing spirits were split pretty well from their PvP counterparts; Disenchantment for example had its energy cost, cast time, and recharge reduced. Effectiveness?[edit]

Wondering about the effectiveness of this spirit is. I use it all the time, but I really wonder if anyone knows whether or not this is actually worthwhile...--Xanobi (talk) 20:11, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

"My GOD, what has become of our schooling? Are the new teachers that stupid?? Are they not allowed to teach proper grammar or spelling?"

lmao. On topic though, no, this skill isn't very good. The interrupts are unreliable, the cost is high, the uptime is bad, and interrupts are generally far better done by heroes anyway. Mesmer heroes are really popular and mesmer interrupts are top tier. 7.8/10 would not recommend. -Auron 01:37, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
Disenchantment is the outlier spirit I would take if looking for some utility in a spirit build. Justice (talk) 18:22, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
Though there is room for improvement, I hesitate to call this skill bad. As noted above, when Binding Rituals received their general overhaul in the June of 2009 balance update, Dissonance, though receiving the universal reduction in cast time and increase in level given to all binding rituals, strangely did not have its energy cost, recharge, or even duration adjusted while many other spirits did. A good comparison for this is Disenchantment. In addition to the cast time reduction, it received a reduction in energy cost from 25 to 15 and a reduction in recharge from 45 to 30 seconds, making it a much more usable skill. Dissonance, I think, would have been a good candidate to receive the same kind of treatment.
As to why it didn't, only Arenanet can answer that, however, I suspect it may have to do with Dissonance being able to single handedly shutdown any foe, particularly bosses, with its constant interruption, a trait that can be potently enhanced by the use of Signet of Ghostly Might. Is that reason enough alone to have left the skill in its current state? I personally don't believe so.
Anyhow, even though Dissonance in my opinion could still use a bit of balancing, being that it is a spirit, it has certain advantages over other skills, namely the ability to synergize with spirit enhancing skills, such as the aforementioned Signet of Ghostly Might, and if you have an SoS user in your party, Painful Bond. Because of this, whenever I play as an SoGM spirit spammer, I usually bring Dissonance, unless I am overtly worried about energy management. - Soldier198
