All the reaper pages have an overall map of the UW showing their locations. No direct-line maps for now, but until someone completes the quest and puts one up, it should help some out. Example here Leliel 19:26, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

The order in which you talk to the reapers[edit]

Is it relevant? Idmz 21:26, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Not really. Though you might want to try taking on the one in the Bone Pits first and the Ice Wastes last, just since Pits is a pain in the butt and if you die at least you haven't gone through the trouble of getting the other Reapers yet. Ice Wastes for last since you end up having to go back to the Hall of Judgement at the very end anyway, might as well be close. Leliel 21:45, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
I see, thanks for the advice! Idmz 22:10, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
I agree thoroughly with the Pits suggestion. I think the order should be changed to a clockwise order instead of counter-clockwise because the Pits is (in my experience) the hardest part. I also feel that the order is relevant as some people are very unfamiliar with the Underworld.97.122.102.215 09:38, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Completely Not Worth It[edit]

Just tried the quest for the 3rd time.. took me almost an hour to get all 7 reapers. Then on the way to the end npc I got stuck via lag without realizing I was stuck (I was still running on my computer) and died (then "poofed" back to where i got stuck at). It's funny really.. The quests were to show off the new modifications to the UW and I don't think I'll ever re-enter it. Magic User Magic Icon.jpg Talk 20:40, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

It's meant to be difficult, and from what I've heard, if you understand the skills it's not that hard. Learn to use your KD and other skills and try using a Red Rock Candy to have a permanent speed boost. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 20:43, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
I did fine using my skills. I'm just saying that for the amount of time the quest takes and then dying from lag is a complete waste of time. And to people that don't know their way around UW it's not worth the effort. Magic User Magic Icon.jpg Talk 20:48, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Well I failed 3 times so I have some tips. Bring Red Rock Candy & Blue Rock Candy (at the same time for a max speed boost). It takes ~20 minutes to talk with all the Reapers because the whole run can pretty much be...well...ran. Keep in mind that when in Pits it will be advisable to take a break and PLAN everything ahead, especially on your way back (because that's what is killing me atm). Keep in mind that these oversized-living-necro-bacons will enjoy walking. Some go hand in hand (literally) so spam TAB & #3 to swich targets. The biggest BRAINBLAST! you'll get at the bridge in Pits. So PLAN. Talking about plans, at plains there are some pop-ups that will cause degen if you don't use skill #4 as soon as they appear. The Dryders aren't hard to avoid, use knockdown and at the group near the Reaper you should use #4 because they'll set you on fire. While running through the tar use #1 to cancel the -30% slow effect. The rest is plain simple (no pun intended). GAAAHH. Here we go again ... Oh, another thing. These skills work in an ODD manner. I can't make friendly everyone if there are corridors, you need to -shout at somebody- to knockdown because the other is thinking at "Funniest Bacon Moments" and won't hear you. Markus ClouserUser Markus Clouser signature img.jpg 22:18, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
That's all well and good, but in the grand scheme of things, should limited edition festival quests really be this difficult, or require additional resources to complete? This is the problem I have with the Dragon Festival missions. Should festival quests offer a bit of a challenge? Sure, but they should really at least be a lot more friendly than this quest. Lag/rubberbanding is only part of the problem. Anet should really have added an additional skill for this one for hex removal/heal. So many players having difficulty with this quest tells me it is not really well designed to get one in a festival mood. HanokOdbrook 10:09, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
" If anything, this makes it easy for new players to see all of UW" I hear a few people speaking of this, yet seeing the UW and doing the UW are completely different things, especially with the quests. I'll probably do this quest and the first one, if its still avaliable once the lag doesn't keep rubberbanding me all over the show. ~~000.00.00.00~~ 22:24, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
Very few people ever go into the terrorweb swamp place (including myself, as given by me not knowing it's actual name). Tip: On the bone pits, spam knockdowns, and when you get to the brigde, convert everything in the area. That should give you enough time to get to the reaper. Just do the same thing on the way back. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 22:26, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
Spawning Pools. ~~000.00.00.00~~ 22:27, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
Do-able. I've finished it in 39mins. I took Pits before Planes & Pools, changed the diapers and continued. More tips: try bringing Lieutenant's Insignia if warrior but I have no idea if it works. I hope the other quests won't be as annoying as this one because I'll probably start using a hammer and a shield at the same time. Grats, this was my first tour of the UW and I'm probably not the only one in this situation. The difficult part for those that never actually finished UW is that they have no idea how some mobs act or what skills they have. Wiki helps here and there. Never been a fan of UW, myself. Full of tricks, full of windows for small mistakes that can lead to party wipes. Just not my thing. Always prefered FoW, it is more battle oriented and fast paced. Due to this I probably won't bother doing these quests, unless something really unique and unattainable otherwise is offered as the final reward. --Sensei 14:35, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Fighting grentchies in the Underworld? Now that's fun, you kill them and leave a trail of corpses behind you. Running around leaving things alive behind? That's NONSENSE! If the converted enemies followed you, that would be a different thing. But running around like a chicken is not my idea - neither Balthazar's - of fun. The other 4 slots should have skills to damage enemies. Damage them a LOT. I can't stand th thought of entering an area and leaving without wiping everything. And what's about having to gather tonics for the tries? Come on! Farm to play? I want to log in and go for the missions without having to spend time of gold getting items first. I have a limited time to play. This mission can't compare the other other festival missions so far. You could do the others without having to farm, and by killing stuff. Even the low rewards of the Dragon Festival missions are better than this. At least you kill stuff in them. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 03:15, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

I agree today's quest is total crap. Now if I wanted to complete this series I have to suffer through today's extremely annoying quest (assuming I don't keep rubber-banding with a 20k+ ping) just to keep going? No thanks. This is why I don't play MMO's. Talking to person A > person B > person C quests are lame. I've had enough "fun" on this holiday. I'm actually glad now that this BS is for this year only. 209.89.252.164 04:55, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Well, it's doable, but also not really fun - I find it more Nintendo Hard-ish than challenging (may not quite be a correct use of the trope, but it's at that level of frustration). The most annoying thing is that, with no self-heal or hex removal, it only takes one piece of bad luck with a degen hexing monster (such as Corpse Gatherer/Threshers or a Mindblade popup) and you're sitting there watching your health degen from potentially upwards of 300 to zero and there's not a thing you can do about it. It'd be nice to have some skill like "Sugar Pill" or "Sweet Relief" that'll clear hexes or something - even if it has a long recharge and/or 'no foes in earshot' or similar requirement so it can't be overused. On the whole, though... one hopes that future quests in this series will grant an opportunity to actually start fighting back. Can't be too many more people we have to schmooze with in diplomatic mode, can there? Draxynnic 05:33, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes i agree, this quests isn´t worth the reward but the backstory is interesting :D, I really want to see how this plays out, it might change UW forever (prolly not cause every UWSC-er would whine). 80.60.80.108 21:28, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

This quest would be giga-tons more enjoyable if it were not for the constant fear of getting "illusion trapped" in mobs. I don't know if anyone's idea of fun is realizing you're stuck between 3 Aatxes even though your character actually ran around them and is now half a mile past. Or making it through Twin Serpents easy and clean, barely any damage nine times out of ten, the tenth time every Obsidian mob starts shooting you with 30-60 damage rocks and another tonic is wasted. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 1.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 21:31, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Exactly. With the winderay quests, you either had grentch/snowmen/Eye of the North PNCs allies, or you could face enemies one by one or in controlled mobs, and you had the Ice Fort to survive lag spikes and rubberbanding. But here? All you have it as many tries and tonics you can get. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 23:52, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

how to[edit]

got a two part video of the run for anyone who needs it. part 1 part 2 Blaze13 00:34, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

The main thing that stops me is lag, especially near the Aatxes. Since you can't recognize it right away, I do the instinctive thing and hit 2, not wasting a 4. Unfortunately, with Aatxes, you have about 1.5 seconds to realize the server thinks you're in the middle of them before you die. | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg {U|T|C} 01:59, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
ya you don't "need" to hit skill 4 so much but i just hit it wherever you can die/be block easy. Blaze13 02:33, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
I finished it on my fourth try; eventually I decided to just label Aatxes as "severe threats" and use 4 as a rule for them. At one point, I was lagbodyblocked by Grasping Darknesses. 4 was on the recharge, so I spammed TAB + 3 and hoped to knock them down long enough. It worked, and 4 made them non-collision, saving my ass. | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg {U|T|C} 03:12, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Regarding lag, type /stuck when you start to have the command ready and use it whenever you think you're lagging. Markus ClouserUser Markus Clouser signature img.jpg 09:29, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
/stuck /stuck /stuck... Server-client pathing sync shouldn't have to be taken care of by the user. Dhuum Encounter in a City, or--[edit]

Dhuum Encounter in a city, or a special area to form parties to defeat Dhumm at end of quest line? Because of all the hinting in this one that he'll break free of his bonds or w/e. It would be nice.. -/- Discuss 01:25, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Most likely in the UW. Dhuum, from a lore standpoint, has no quarrels with mortals (He merely tortures them in the afterlife), so he has no reason to attack a City. Not really. However, and this is setting foot in the realm of pure speculation, basing myself on the dialogue from some of the Reapers in the quest, Dhuum is also known as The Mouth at the Edge of the Darkness, which reminds me of those faces in the Realm of Torment. Save the REWARDS![edit]

I've noted a pattern going on. The first quest was simple and needed a t-tonic to do. The reward was 15 T-tonics. Today's quest is really hard, and so they gave you 15 chances at todays quest. Well what can tommarow give? Chances are high that it will be easier than today, but still a little rough. And you'll need some Phantsmal Tonics. I'm guessing your going to do some reaper things tommarow. --68.115.108.135 03:00, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

I haven't been selling the tonics to people, since I figured something like you said. However, the transmogrifier tonics are so easy to get from collectors that maybe there's not even a trend. | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg {U|T|C} 03:16, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Today's quest was hard? wat. 76.103.242.232 06:18, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Compared to Monday's quest, yes it was. It is also much longer.
As for tonics, two days in a row now it has been a requirement for the same topic, it also makes sense since we're supposedly agents of the Mad King Thorn ... so I doubt they'll change the topic requirement with the next quest. It's more likely it'll remain the same. Holding onto the topics until the end of the quest-chain is a good idea though, as you can always sell or use them when it's over.

Lore to Nerf of UWSC[edit]

Looks like what I'm reading, they're planning to nerf The Underworld some how...agreed? 24.16.96.202 03:33, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Could've just answered the question 24.34. I don't think Anet would reveal a game update through a series of festival quests. I think people may be reading into the quests because of an anticipated nerf. We'll see. SardaukarUser Sardaukar sig.png 05:39, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
They already fixed it. Mobs will change every so often. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 06:20, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Do you think mobs are on a set cycle of change? I know that they were initially changed in the live update, and then wastes changed further about 2 days later. Any confirmation if this kind of trend will continue? 76.103.242.232 06:22, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
I don't know if it's random or a set cycle, but they will continue to change, yes. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 06:26, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Or maybe UW version 2: The return of DHUUM
with great new dhumonic monsters, even more of those and cownbells :p
Or we all just have to stop seeing ghosts( it's the beggining of crazyness you know) and have fun doing the quests.
Im guessing there will be a "Suprise" monster that is left over and created by Dhumm. This monster will conveniently have a skill like Signet of Disenchantment to stop all farming in UW. Flaming Hot Chilli 07:34, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Let's just hope they don't change it and eff over the non-UWSC players, though, it wouldn't surprise me if this happens -.- ~~000.00.00.00~~ 09:51, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Most changes have, in the past, sadly hit non-farming and non-speedclearing teams the most. You can almost always farm something more efficient than you can do it in a balanced team.
- Kherec 11:23, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
I think the entire purpose of the changes to the UW is to "eff over" UWSC. Linsey has made multiple references to the fact she finds speed clears a problem, and that her intentions are to eliminate them by not necessarily nerfing SF, but by making changes to the areas where it is so highly abused. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 11:44, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
No doubt that'll be the intention, but when you're trying to stop a powerful skill like Shadow Form, odds are things will be troublesome for people not running the skill as well. Let's say they make better use of signets to remove enchantments ... then that'll strip "normal" teams of Spell Breaker, Protective Spirit etc as well, in their relentless persuit to stop Shadow Form.
And if they go for more non-targetting damage to hit through Shadow Form, guess what, that'll hit everyone else as well. And time and time again that is usually the case when they target farming builds, so forgive me for being sceptical.
- Kherec 18:53, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Anet has the potential to nerf speed clears without ruining the experience of balanced play. Look at Abaddon compared to Shiro. Shiro was pathetically easy (solo-able) because he was basically just another mob. Abaddon REQUIRES a full balanced team, there is no room whatsoever for farming or speed clear gimmicks. The UW needs a touch of creativity as we saw in Nightfall/EOTN. Something that would require non-gimmick game play. Of course that would require more work than Anet is willing to put in (considering our most recent substantial content is fairly simple; a couple new skills, the same UW and enemies, and some new NPC interactions). If you notice, every holloween there is a nerf that hits the community hard in some way or irks them while, at the same time, throwing something remotely positive or new into the mix as well as if it were to make up for it. (But it doesn't.) --Curin Derwin 19:40, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Helpful Hints[edit]

I hope these help those who are having trouble.

  • Save Mad Kings Influnce, rarely use it. Use it if you are rubberband lagged.
  • Sugar Shock patrols of 2-3, it'll stop em and not cause any trouble.
  • Melee enemies, Aataxes, Graspings, Smites, Wailing Lords, are not much of a problem. Using Sticky ground works just fine on em. or Sugar shock if there are just 2 or so. Aataxes break aggro at 25% speed boost, so you can jolt past them, just don't get rubberbanded.
  • Banished Dream Riders do nothing, run past them
  • Spawning Pools- Terrorwebs are long casting damage, use "Tab" and Sugar shock mobs of 4 and you'll have no trouble. Use MKI if your introuble.
  • Bone Pits is a hassle, but if you sugar shock the partols of 2, they are done. MKI should be use when going around the Bridge loop. You can always take a small break in between patrols.
  • The mountains can be a little rough, when coming up on a Behemoth group, suagr shock a few down and keep on running. If running past mobs of 6-7 of them, MKI will get you through. That only happens a few times.
  • There are plunty of break zones while running. Don't rush it if you don't feel like it.
  • You don't have to "talk" to the Reapers, just get in their aggro.
  • Sugar Shock is your friend. 4 pips of energy regen is plunty to do things. If you SS often, you'll have no trouble.
  • Only 2 things should cause problems. Getting body blocked with melees( use MKI). MKI running out while in a mob of Dead Bone Pit Creatures (Make sure that doesn't happen). Mindblades causing trouble( You should only run into minds twice, once just before the pools, and once on your way out of plains from pools. In both cases, MKI should be use, since you don't need it for a while).
  • This quest is all about timing and knowing the Underworld layout. Do it once or twice and you should get the hang of it.

Without candy I can do it in 20min. With a Red Rock, only 17-18min, but less chance of body block and problems.

I had little problems with this quest except for the one where you need to go to the Bone Pits where the mobs use degen on you. I had several Essence of Celerity in my storage, so I decided to pick up one of them and it GREATLY helps on the quest. Not only you get a 20% speed boost, but you maintain the MKI skill indefinitely, thus preventing the mobs from casting those degen hexes.--Dark Paladin X 20:26, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Do 40/40 sets help with recharges of the disguise skills? Jeree95 13:34, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
No. A 40/40 would require a certain attribute, these have none. But even the general HCT/HSR (the 10%) mods wouldn't work because each of the skills are shouts or a stance, not spells. Mora 15:10, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Deaths and Survivor[edit]

Thanks to the Bone Pits, I can confirm that this quest, like it's predecessor, doesn't negate the Survivor title track. Agreed. Took me a while to find where was the starting point when i tried. (Which, by the way, is close to the middle of the map :P)--Fighterdoken 02:46, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
It takes five seconds to recognize the little bright rectangular block near which you start. After that, the relative locations of the Reapers are extremely useful. | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg {U|T|C} 03:25, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
The other wiki has a map with staring point marked. Wasn't helpful though. I can't read a map when I'm being mobbed. And the actual place doesn't look like the map. They shouldn't have made this a solo quest. Its unfair to people not familiar with the UW. This weekend should have been fun, not aggravating. I'm not a runner. Have no interest in being a runner. They shouldn't be forcing people to be a runner to do a quest. Ramei Arashi 09:06, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Easily Done, like this[edit]

For those of you, who haven't been able to finish this, I've got an easy and fast solution: use a full conset, and a red rock candy. Worked like charm after wasting 20k, 10 tonics and about 10 failed tries. --95.236.2.95 14:53, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

/facepalm ... 1 Celerity makes Influence perma ...no reason to pop anything else --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 19:26, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
ilr is correct. Using a full conset is a waste... But I concur with the OP; if you're having problems with this quest (as I am), then your best bet is to use an Essence of Celerity to allow you to permanently maintain MKI. This quest is actually more difficult this year due to the fact that many Necromancer hexes like Faintheartedness got buffed during the intervening period. - Zaxares 01:02, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
What are you talking about? Faintheartedness wasn't buffed and the skill is exactly the same as last Halloween. --Silver Edge 01:32, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
I might be mistaken (most likely with the timing), but wasn't Faintheartedness and a bunch of other Necromancer hexes buffed up a while back, but after last Halloween? I don't know... I don't follow the skill updates as closely as I used to anymore. In any case, I remember completing this quest fairly easily last year (on 5 characters, no less), but I failed multiple times attempting this quest again last night. - Zaxares 10:20, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Don't know what either of you guys is talking about, without ANY cons this quest is easily doable... Just know when to press which button, that's all... Pastafarian Hunter 23:38, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Different dialogues[edit]

Since some (but not all) of the Reapers' dialogues are also different, as is the meeting and the end dialogue, perhaps make a sub-page for the 09 dialogues (e.g., [[Don't Fear the Reapers/2009 dialogue]]) and merely link to that in the notes section? Same with the other UW quests, I'd suggest. -- Konig/talk 20:15, 26 October 2010(UTC)

Killing stuff[edit]

It's possible to lure enemies to the Frozen Elementals at the end of the quest, who in turn will easily kill both smites and frostfires. Keeping everything knocked down sugar shock should help. I killed seven smites and three frostfires this way. Gained XP from them, but got no drops. Noteworthy? Sanctus Medellae 14:36, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
