am I alone in liking this skill?

It's not a bad skill, but there are better Mesmer elites out there. -AyaStowar

Rragar[edit]

In Rragar's Menagerie he's listed as a Boss-Like foe, which means that a Signet of Capture can not be used on him. But here it's listed that you can take his elite. I tried to finish this to get to his elite on my mesmer; but I've been having a lot of computer trouble and froze up before I could. Can anyone answer me if it's possible to get this from him or not?

You can't cap skills from boss-like foes; Rragar shouldn't be on the list. I'll remove him. -- 166.120.202.205 04:48, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Bugged..[edit]

It doesn't seem to show less than the listed amount of energy that the foe loses. It also seems to be doing random damages (12, 48, 60, 96, etc at -8 energy). Anyone else seeing this? I was in the Barborous Shore and it did random damage to all the different Kournans there.

Maybe all that is happening is that it is just not showing the actual amount of energy lost, but it actually calculating based on some actual that we can't see...--Louai 11:09, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

they lose 8 energy, the amount of energy they ACTUALLY lost is multiplied by 12. so if they have 3 energy left, they take 36 dmg. simple. 76.26.189.65 05:39, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

However, not dealing the full amount of dmg with this skill implies you have fulfilled the main reason people (well, insightful people) use this skill, and that is energy denial. This is a good elite for just chunking off energy with a good amount of dmg too. FleshAndFaith 23:37, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

The -8 energy is displayed even if the enemy had less than 8. It's similar to skills that cause energy gain such as Essence Bond. You will still see the +1 energy even if your energy is already full. Same thing with health. Tedium 01:04, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Dnd damage, if you hit someone for 120 damage when they only had 30 left, it still says 120. Also, getting damage less than maximum is also your Aneurysm cue. --Ckal Ktak

16 dom in GVG[edit]

gogogo?--Thelordofblah 23:12, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I'm your average GvG monk. I know how to focus swap. I hope to see you in battle soon so I can show you how I can render you useless with ease <3 Saphatorael 01:28, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
And yet this is the most popular elite for a GvG mesmer. It must do something right then. 76.89.81.150 00:51, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, damage for spike and VoD AoE. The energy drain is just vanilla. 67.184.146.234 19:51, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Effects[edit]

Am I the only one that wishes this had a cool effect like it does in the skill image? (Cool burst of light) :]

I want the Nexus effect from StarTrek :D Noctarch 23:37, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Why?[edit]

Uhm.. I've just noticed..... Energy Surge and Energy Burn are EXACTLY the same.........

Not quite. Surge also deals the same damage to nearby foes.--Pyron Sy 22:26, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Not to mention is costs half the energy at a lower recharge. 173.57.73.223 04:04, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Can you say spike team?[edit]

16 Domination Magic. 4, 5, or 6 spikers. Arcane Echo + Energy Surge + Energy Surge + Energy Burn + Aneurysm (where necessary). Pain? Yes. Energy Denial? Yes. Excessive Recharge time? Yes. GG? Maybe... He Who Likes Arrows 01:13, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

cry of frustation gg spike 1.1-1.5 castin time xD--enable User:Enable1337 #redirect User talk:Enable1337 05:31, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Only an Elementalist would have enough energy for Surge/Burn alone to "spike" them, since most players have around 600 health in "high-end" PvP. Vili User talk:Vili 08:51, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
People used to do something similar to this with the old EoE spike, which involved killing all of your team mates in the hopes that EoE would kill all of their team mates. While fun to watch, it was boring to play. And no, E-Surge was never enough to kill anyone. --Jette User Jette awesome.png 09:18, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
E surge spike will only kill eles, everyone else would run out of energy before dying 68.202.136.112 06:25, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
You could, you know, pick different targets to cast esurge on. Since it is AoE and all. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 06:33, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
/sarcasm What a terrible skill! It either reduces enemies to 0 energy or it kills them! /-sarcasm--71.185.41.90 19:56, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
It also used to be in the area, which was pretty badass, as I recall. --Jette User Jette awesome.png 11:56, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, it was. Sup dom magic <3 Vili 点 User talk:Vili 22:04, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
...*EHM* Aneurysm? Easily solves the "everyone else would run out of energy before dying" Ilyana 21:31, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Khabuus[edit]

Is Khabuus a boss-like foe? If not, he should be added to the list --Ride the Lightning.jpg Goodnight L A --

i think the phrase "Khabuus is a Heket boss-like foe " turns him in... --Ritualist-tango-icon-200.pngRequiem 21:07, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

The Darkness (actor)?[edit]

Can you capture it from this? Even if it's only got a short time?

I will need to try that soon... when the new year comes.--Smroz01 23:49, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Looks like Enervating Charge[edit]

Anyone agree?--Eclipse143 17:57, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Does it deal double dmg vs frenzied foes?[edit]

Some guy in RA activated Frenzy but didnt get double damage from esurge as primary target even tho b4 he got double dmg as he was nearby foe - secondary target. Does it deal double damage on primary targets too? Did my teammate maybe wild throw him?--Nehmuh 16:27, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

I suspect he simply was almost out of energy - it only damages per point of energy lost. (so in this case, perhaps he had only 4/5 energy out of the usual 8-9 that gets drained by Energy Surge, and thus it normally would have dealt 36-45 damage, but then it got doubled to 72/90 - appearing as if he didn't suffer the double damage. this sounds especially likely if he had already activated Frenzy before you used this - uses up quite a bit of energy that does.. ) --Chieftain Alex 18:46, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
