Initial Comments[edit]

Huh?? This is the hall of monuments. Unless ive missed something, Eye of the North is not a building brains12 16:37, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

It's a building, too - that was said more or less recently in one of the interviews with Arena Net (see the link on the article itself). It states that the Hall of Monuments is actually inside the Eye of the North itself, and that this is the biggest building ever designed for GW. Erasculio 16:42, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Glint[edit]

Considering this tower shows visions, perhaps it is conected with Glint in some way? Maybe it's even the source of her power? --Vinria Karok 00:51, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

considering I haven't played Prophecies (although I want to very badly), I can't be sure. However, from the wiki article, it would seem that Glint has the power to see future events. Thhe scrying pool in the Eye of the North is just that - a scrying pool. That means it allows you to spy on people at the current moment, not see into the future. --«troy frostwind» 19:38, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

town[edit]

uh, why the hell town? it's a tower, not a city. - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 18:06, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Because that's what the preview weekend tells us. Backsword 18:09, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) It's a structure, but also the town by game mechanics definition of the Far Shiverpeaks. --Santax (talk · contribs) 18:10, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
sneak peak map this is where the info is from I think. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 18:12, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
preview weekend? did i miss something? when was that? - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 18:15, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
It is august 24th but this page [1] went up today. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 18:17, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
maybe i should read news on gw.com. - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 18:18, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

(Reset indent) What does its an outpost now mean? o_O - BeX iawtc 08:40, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Towns have bigger, prettier icons like LA. Outposts have smaller icons, like Beacon's. User GD Defender sig.png|GD Defender / contribs 08:44, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Sorry I hadn't noticed the last game update. I know the difference between the icons. :P - BeX iawtc 08:45, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
I do want to know why they changed it from a city to a town. Both the Asura capital and the Norn capital are cities (I'm not sure about dwarves), so shouldn't the human capital of the far shiverpeaks be a city, too? --«troy frostwind» 19:36, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Region[edit]

Are we sure this is Far Shiverpeaks? An important place like this could well have it's own region. Would explain the seemingly double towns. Is there any other source than the map? Backsword 08:30, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

What do you mean by "other than the map"? An image like this one where you can see 2 cities in the far shiverpeaks region (gunnar's hold where the green point is and EotN just south of that) isn't enough to convince you? Chriskang 09:52, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
No, it's not. As there have been a rule of no more than opne town per region, multiple ones require stronger evidence. Anyway, should resolve on the preview weekend if not earlier. Backsword 15:58, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
And what is a stronger evidence than a map where you can see 2 yellow dots? Chriskang 18:10, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
The game's not released yet, let's wait and see.
The official map poster poster released yesterday only has one town there, Eye of the North. --Valshia 16:48, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
With the update reducing Eye of the North from a town to an outpost, the map that came with the game is wrong :o --«troy frostwind» 19:39, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Note[edit]

"If you look directly above the Eye of the North outpost, the sky will be a purplish black, when you go inside and look up, the sky looks more like a black hole. It is also rumored that this has happened in many places over the last year or so." Or.. maybe its just because it's night? And what rumours? User-brains12-scale-sig.png brains12 19:56, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Edit: it looks more like the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) to me, and since it is the far north, that would make more sense. User-brains12-scale-sig.png brains12 19:56, 13 October 2007 (UTC) They're trying to recreate the Northern Lights so it would be pitch black around them.

hmm ive been thinking. On the eye of the north map, in the top right corner, there is a small island that resembles Orr from gwars 2, but smaller. does anyone else wonder about this? -Tecumseh Newberry-Shadow wars creator

Origins[edit]

In GW2 you find that the Eye of the North was created by the Mursaat.

Reference? --Valshia 19:51, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Anyone? Limu Tolkki (Limu Tolkki - talk) 22:39, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Definitely not Mursaat architecture, I would submit. -T

Ashford Abbey? What?[edit]

There's a comment presently saying that the arcitecture here is reminiscent of Ashford Abbey. I don't see it. Anyone have any comments about that? --Star Weaver 18:03, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

some of it is look around some more--Lord randy taylor 21:53, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm calling BS on that one. Unless we can get screenshot references, it should be removed from the notes I think. Nay the One and Only User Nay the One and Only SIG.jpg 04:28, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Reference or inspiration?[edit]

Anyone else see similarities with the Eye Of The North and Barad-dûr from Lord Of The Rings? Not huge things but still...

1.First of all: Both are ancient (Barad-dûr was built in the 2nd Age) and the Eye... well that's directly stated in the In-game description.

2.Both are built by very powerful beings, Barad-dûr by Sauron, and the Eye by some unknown (but appearently very powerful) race.

3.Both are dark, high towers with only one door and no windows (or very few), and surrounded by dark clouds.

4.Both include som sort of "all-seeing eye", Sauron's Eye in Barad-dûr and the Scrying Pool in the Eye Of The North.

5.Both play a major role in their respective stories.

6.Both are kinda isolated and hard-to-get-to (Think of it as if it weren't a game, but real life. What if you were trying to get to the Eye by just walking from Kryta?).

7.It's called Eye of the North. Sauron was often referred to as "The Eye" or similar.

So what do you people think? Is it some kind of reference or have the developers just taken inspiration from Barad-dûr? --Piippo 19:11, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

I think that if one is vauge eonugh, anything can fit anything. Backsword 19:23, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

"and the Eye by some unknown (but appearently very powerful) race" ... Humans built it, or am i wrong? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:217.72.48.126 (talk).

What part of "unknown" was not understood? Titani Ertan contributions 19:30, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
1. old things are old... 2.To build something big usually takes power or coordination... 3.Spooky/mysterious towers always are... 4. Cept one was an actual eye at the top... and the other is a pool of water that wwere not sure how to work inside at the basement... 5. They are big towers, ya want them to just be there abandoned?... 6.The pyrimids and ayres rock are both hard to get to, doesn't mean they are related... 8.Or it could be called the eye of the north because it was a watchtower looking over northern parts... I think its a reach to make the connection... and I'm surprised ya didn't link the dwarf... MrPaladin talk 19:37, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Ebon Hawk[edit]

I just noticed all the hawk heads on the outside of the building and the first thing that came to mind was The Ebonhawke so would these 2 building have some sore of connectiong between each other besides being both controled by the Ebon Vanguard. Fox007 User:Fox007 11:05, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

I would say the Ebon Vanguard went "Wha-hey guys! This tower worked really well in defending us against everything! Let's copy everything about it in Ascalon and see how it does against the best the Charr can throw at us!" and then did so. The décor probably just fit well with the motif they were making at the time by being in there, anyway. Blue Totoro 05:38, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Seers[edit]

im thinking that the eye of the north was made by the seers because of the recent developer interview where they were saying that "players encounter seer architecture and dont even know it" and the fact that the seers are the only intelligent race observed in this climate that has no current settlements and is known to have been advanced, plus this is the only notable piece of unexplained architecture in the game that figures heavily into any storyline. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Slingshot0 (talk).

That actually makes sense, given the scrying pool. Ramei Arashi 21:39, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
