Dragon Mask[edit]

Is this part relivant?

Perhaps the highest status value of all hats is held by the Dragon Mask, since it is one of the earliest Festival Hats and quite rare. However the newest hat is the Demon Mask, which, in contrary, is quite a regular sight.

--Alien User Alien Sig.png 15:27, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

No, I don't think it is. It's got no factual value, and is just someone's opinion. --Santax (talk · contribs) 15:30, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
thats what I thought and even if this was relivant the halloween mask from 05 would have to replace the dragon mask. Anyway shall I remove it? --Alien User Alien Sig.png 15:32, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Actually I think I might put a {{cleanup}} template on this page, as it could do with one. --Alien User Alien Sig.png 15:41, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
(edit conflict) I would say the Tengu Mask would be the rarest, anyway. That one and the 05 Grenth horns are the only two I don't have, which is why I was hoping for another Day of the Tengu this year, but instead we got the Second Birthday weekend event... - Tanetris 15:44, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
hehe I was lucky enough to get a tengu mask. :D but I dont have a halloween 05 or the two original wintersday hats. :( anyway ill sort the page out now. --Alien User Alien Sig.png 15:46, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Festival Hats and HoM[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

I Have suggested this a couple of times myself and also heard alot of other people say that they would like to see it be done. So really, I was just wondering if you'd heard anything on the subject? Festivals have alway been a big part of guild wars and festival hats have always been the unique things that we as players could bring away from those fun times. I'm no game maker but I can't imagine it being that hard to copy the models of the hats over to GW2? There's not really that many either, well, compared to all the different armor sets in game anyway. ;) --Alien User Alien Sig.png 18:57, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, there. As it turns out, we don't have a spare pillar for the festival hats, according to a designer I asked about this yesterday. I will ask if we will have a means to preserve historical references like that, and the hats are a sweet part of our history, I agree. However, like most new games, we can't possibly carry over every element, and so I really don't know what the answer to that would be, and to be quite honest, I don't think we'll have an answer for some time, as the designers are working on the major elements of the game, and will add finishing elements, extras, and polish much later. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 03:44, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
But... but if... but maybe... meh okay. ;( It shall be said to say goodbye but I understand. Those designers better make something equally as good as my witches hat in GW2 though! :) --Alien User Alien Sig.png 17:22, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
You can enter in the Grenths Festival Hat Contest and make an awesome hat yourself for them to make.--Silverleaf User Silverleaf sig.png 22:19, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Hey, I cannot say that it will be easy for me to give up my (complete and full, from Day One) collection, either. *sniff* If a means presents itself to give that recognition or that tribute from GW to GW2, I also hope the designers adopt it. I guess all I can say is, we are sure to have even better festivals and even more meaningful collectibles in Guild Wars 2! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:53, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Festive Hats[edit]

moved from User_talk:Gaile_Gray

I love the ice crown and would love to wear it somewhere other than in town, how come u cant upgrade them to an attribute? Like hero armor works. Set the armor as 1-60 or 1-70 or whatever, and when u put a rune in it, it becomes that attribute. 24.141.45.72 14:53, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Way To Get Others[edit]

There should be a way to get hats from past events. It sucks because I got Prophicies almost year ago then go to festival hat maker and can't get the hats from the past events. 24.20.13.213 04:41, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

That's sort of the whole point. They're there to commemorate events you've attended, not to be available to anyone who thinks they're cool. I missed the first halloween and christmas, and while I think those hats are cool, it wouldn't be fair to everyone who actually attended if I could just go and pick up one of the 2005 hats. -Auron 04:47, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

they should let you get hats from the past runescape lets u i think its unfair

Saying that GW should do something just because Runescape does causes instant fail for your argument.--Will Greyhawk 17:15, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
My problem with this concept is that there was NO festival hat maker the first 2 years into the game. Worse still, if you wanted to delete a character and create a new one, then you lost any festival hats that character had acquired up to that point, with no way to obtain a replacement for other characters on your account (since there was no hat maker to begin with to 'show' your hat to) Most people at the time had only 4 character slots on their account since there was only prophecies, which left you with some hard choices to make, and many lost their well-deserved hats because of this oversight. Flipper 06:50, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
My point is more that I didn't knew of the fact there where hats the fist one and a half year I had the game. I wasn't much in outpost or towns. Just trying to get through the main story. Or if you didn't had time to be online the day of the festival? What if somebody has to work or went for a weekend to his grandparent? Would it be fair for them not to have the hat?
So how about you will be able to buy for like 10k for each hat the hats that could be obtained since you bought the game, but which you didn't acquired. This way you only get the chance to get the hats that you could get, which is fair to those who have the game a bit longer, and is fair to those who wouldn't be able to get the hat they could if they where in the right town, the right moment. F. C. Sauër 16:22, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
I'm as "open access to all" and "for the casual players" as anyone can be. However, the festival hats are 100% pure fluff; 100% pure cosmetic; and (most importantly) so far 100% pure open equal access to anyone to get* provided they set aside a few moments on the given day.
  • Exception being: the Tengu hat. That was pre-order only. --Emkyooess 17:51, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
I can understand the viewpoint of "well the people that attended deserve it and the others don't" but perhaps they could begin releasing the older hats each year, I mean they are making the bonus mission pack weapons available to everyone know for z-coins, so how is that fair to the ones that bought the BMP? I think releasing them via holiday quests a little each year wouldn't be a bad idea Nay the One and Only 02:38, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
They're making bmp weapons buyable? Where'd you hear this from?--Pyron Sy 02:45, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
I stand corrected, they are not available unless you have the bmp. There was a rumor coming down the pipeline they were gonna add the weapons to an NPC at temple of balthazar for z-coins and last I heard it was on the way, but I was mistaken. My apologies. I still stand by my idea for the quests for hats though. Nay the One and Only 21:58, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, festival hats can be infused. It is somewhat pointless though, as it is not likely you will wear it out. Well, I know for sure that the Rudi Mask and Grentch Cap can be... SkyMan25 22:00, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Gallery style[edit]

Should we use the current style, or copy over the section which I just removed from the common armor article? -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 07:48, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

I'd prefer a gallery view as the current one looks...iffy...You should also go to the page itself for the actual acquisition information too. Would you be sorting them chronologically or by event 'types' (i.e. Dragon Festival, Halloween, etc.)? ~Celestia 09:56, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

New Festival Hats don't show up during festival event fights (It's not a bug, it's a feature)[edit]

I'm curious to hear the reason for ArenaNet changing the new festival hats appearance to "not during PvP", which obviously also includes 'fun' PvP events like Snowball Fight and Dragon Arena. For people like me who use the festival hats solely during these events, but scrape the hats afterwards as to not take up room in the inventory this resulted in the hats being 'unusable'. Any mentioning of this results in deletion of this tiny yet important piece of information (by User:DrogoBoffin), because once a player deletes his 'old' festival hat, any 'new' hat he makes will be of the 'new' type and -subsequentially- won't show during said events. DrogoBoffin reasons that this is 'intended', yet neither Festival hat nor Costume refer to an official statement from ANet that this was indeed the case. With this difference between 'new' and 'old' hats stated on both sites, I wanted to raise awareness to some ANet offical that this is indeed quite the strange change. So I'd either have a) A link to some site of some ANet official justifying this change, or b) Have this behaviour between 'old' and 'new' listed as either a Bug or Anomaly. (ChaosCom 00:04, 23 December 2009 (UTC))

The change would be due to the difficulty of telling the profession of a player in a pvp match if they are wearing a full costume. That is why tonics are excluded from PvP as well. Not being able to tell which profession your opponents are at a glance has a detrimental effect on PvP play, this is why so many people complained during the stick figure April Fool's joke. If you want to suggest a solution to this problem, you are free to make your own suggestions in the feedback namespace. Misery 00:12, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
That's hardly an explanation, and i suspect you didn't even try to provide one at all. As i pointed out, i was refering to the headgear part only, while you refered to the full costume for starters. The sticky figure example of yours falls into the 'full' customization category as well. With the headgear i can still tell the classes apart, and in some cases it's even possible to tell them from the way they curl their hands (apart from the obvious distinction that the profession is readable when selected). There's a reason why ANet decided to separate the headgear from the rest of the costume, so your arguments are, in essence, moot for the discussion at hand. Also, i don't exactly understand what you meant with your feedback namespace suggestion. Can you elaborate? (ChaosCom 19:05, 25 December 2009 (UTC))
Don't act like a dick and expect to be helped. It tends to not work that way. 98.148.16.22
The reason Anet separated the costumes from the headgear is because the headgear was already separate. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 20:35, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Could still wear it in Fun-PvP mini-games, couldn't you? I am also very disappointed with this, I LOVE(d) wearing festival masks in Fun-PvP mini-games, but now that has been taken away from us. Don't act as if you don't want this change to be permanent, it only proves how much of a suck-up you all are. If it wasn't allowed in PvP because of idiots not being able to READ the profession, then.. wow. Remove all other headgear I guess - a new player wouldn't be able to distinguish professions QQ. Dread Mask? Remove from PvP pl0x.--122.111.184.252 12:41, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

I'm disappointed by the above responses, none of which address the anomaly of the old hats being wearable in PvP. The issue ChaosCom presented does not have to do with the choice to make these costumes unavailable, but rather the fact that they can be wearable if the festive hat was old enough. I would like an ANet statement as well. --UserZathicSig.PNGZathic 06:40, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Should I keep my hats?[edit]

Now that the festival hat dudes give out costume hats when they copy my festival hats, and the costume hats no longer replace my headgear ... is there any reason my original festival hats should continue to take up space in my Xunlai chest? Would I be smarter trashing the original hats, and just using the costume hats? Or are the old festival hats now "valuable" in some way since they're no longer obtainable from the festival hat dudes? - Brian Kendig 05:36, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

That choice is solely up to you.MystiLefemEle 10:49, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
Of course it is. I'm just asking if there's any practical reason to keep them. - Brian Kendig 15:45, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
Once after you talk to the festival hat maker, you have the ability to reproduce as many as you want that are exactly the same as the original. Also, Festival hats no longer replace the headgear either. You can place the festival hats in the same place you place costume hats, and they won't take up your headgear. balistic 15:49, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
See the 'New Festival Hats don't show up during festival event fights' discussion above of why you should keep your old hats. (ChaosCom 19:05, 25 December 2009 (UTC))

Hats/Costume[edit]

Hats can now be worn in the costume slot instead of the head slot however any hats that were made before the update will need to be replaced as these can still only be used in the head slot. Should the note be changed to show this. Dakota 18:18, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Recovering hats?[edit]

Is it possible to recover a festival hat that was accidentially trashed before showing it to the hatters? KoC 11:20, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

No. --Silver Edge 20:21, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Looks to be a Yes in a few days :)MystiLefemEle 11:49, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
Technically, you're getting a second chance , rather than "recovering" the trashed copy — you still have to spend a festival hat token. In a worst case example of someone only participating in Dragon Fest 2012 and 2011 (but trashing the hat too soon), they'd end up with only one hat, the same number available to someone who only participated during 2012 alone. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:05, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Hat Suggestions[edit]

I have 1 perticular Suggestion for a new hat, for the Canthan New Year hat. I would like to see a Celestial Animel Hat matching the celestial animals of tradition for the year. The upcoming year of the Dragon should be especially cool with maybe even having Dragon wings that the user apears to have on his or her back when wearing the hat.

Christmas Hats, I had a thought for that. A Hat that has area effects such as snow falling around the Char maybe. Sorta like a doom cloud people sarcasticly imagine in odd cartoons for having a bad day over their heads but snow, and all Puffy. And not actually hovering over the head even, maybe it would rest just touching the top of your head like a cloudy puffy crown. A Cumulous Cloud with maybe a cool Snowman pokeing threw it at the top.

Halloween Hats, Perhaps it would be sweet to see a Hat with the same effect as Christmas. With area effects such as maybe Whiches riding brooms or demons flying in circles around your head. Or an animated hat that has Flames. Id like to see if people can continue this thread with interesting ideas and see what we can come up with.

Atlantis Mage

I'm still waiting for a scarecrow mask. Either way, this belongs in the feedback section. –Jette 06:54, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

I would really, really like a top hat, like what the Snowmen wear. It would look excellent on my Mesmer. And further to that, it would be nice if they split eye/face wear from hats. Then my Mesmer could wear both a top hat and Slim Spectacles. :-D C0Zm1c 21:18, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Ya'know, or you could just buy the wedding costume set a wear that hat.--NeilUser Neil2250 sig icon6.png 12:36, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
They hadn't added that to the store when I made that reply. "First made available in November of 2010." I've bought it in the meantime. C0Zm1c 05:40, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

well Anets low on ideas obviously.. "what goes with Christmas?" uuuuuuuh I dunno? "ah lets just give em any old rubbish we spent too much effort on the costumes noone cares about the hats anyway" SOUNDS GOOD thus the, unrelated Halo and Horns were born, are they suggesting Dwayna is a good god while Grenth is the Devil?
