Gift of the Huntsman[edit]

I like and dislike this. I like it because its something different in pre (and I heard of a mini Athena rumor) but I dislike this because several people paid millions of gold to max drunkard, Sweet tooth and Party animal in pre, just to make the title farm able now. Suicidal Romance X 03:55, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

You could already farm the drunkard title with the people that want you to kill the bears. 68.55.14.167 06:29, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
Farmable? Oh Come on ... 5 bags per day is 25 points for title (is it really 5 items per bag?). 40 days to rearch L1 of title, over year to max it. Several years to max em all. Reall Easy to get. 217.77.169.58 06:45, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
Hello? Ever heard of multi pre characters or even multi accounts? Its 5 bags per char..and I have quite a few accounts with several pre chars. Give each one 25 items, get 5 bags = farmable. Suicidal Romance X 07:17, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
But you cant switch items in Pre across Characters ^^ |Cyan LightUser-Cyan Light sig-icon.jpgLive!| 07:36, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
You can if you use two accounts. -- Dashface User Dashface.png 07:40, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

So basically you're only complaining because you personally dished out an excessive amount of money buying those titles beforehand. Captain Doughnut 07:38, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

@ Dashface: really? How that? |Cyan LightUser-Cyan Light sig-icon.jpgLive!| 07:42, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

You can run two Guild Wars clients on one computer or if you own two computers, one on each to facilitate trade between multiple accounts. Captain Doughnut 07:46, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Ah... Well, its always your own choise to farm I always say =P |Cyan LightUser-Cyan Light sig-icon.jpgLive!| 07:57, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Personally I'd be a little aggravated about making a title less 'expensive' but it's not like they took away your personal achievement; just made it more accessible for those without truckloads of gold Captain Doughnut 08:13, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

I bet that this is only for easter and after until next easter hes going to be gone - Giant Nuker 14:43, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

I bet he's her to stay. --Arduinna talk 15:20, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
He is. Regina already said he was permanent. Suicidal Romance X 15:24, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
Doughnut: I can understand Suicidal's annoyance, because in a sense it is taking away that achievement: a significant factor in maxing a title is "how leet will people think I am when I wear this in town?" If you lower the difficulty, you lower the leetness. So although this change won't erase all the hard work in her eyes, it'll essentially erase it in the eyes of the folks she wants to show off to. (Shallow, yes, but most title-hunters are. I still whinge sometimes about how texmod ruined the leetness of my cartographer achievement. (I maxed it in proph with one and a half areas totally unexplored! Come oonnnnnn)) Anyway, all that said, I do think this item was a good thing to add to pre: the extra content for permapre-ers outweighs the annoyance of those who already got the title. After all, you can still tell people, "Yeah, I got this before they introduced Gifts of the Huntsman. It was super hard to max back then." --Mme. Donelle 23:37, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your understanding. Most people say "Quit QQ'ing over it because not everyone has millions to spend on a title"..hell I didn't either. I was just working my way there, the hard way, buying and selling and trading like everyone else. Not like I used a magic trick. But yea. I thank you greatly for not noobing up and complaining like everyone else did. Thb I don't really care for it anymore- the fact that it makes titles more easy to get. It will still be a slow process because of the 5 Bags per day thing but I dont wear any of my titles in pre anymore, only my Luxon. So yea. Im thinking of this collector as a good way for some to raise a bit more gold for themselves. Suicidal Romance X 08:25, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
I distinctly recall a certain somebody bragging on a presearing website about using a pet bear glitch to gain far more ales than normal before it was nerfed. I also recall that same somebody defending their use of an auto-clicker to obtain the drunkard title. Why must people in glass houses always throw stones? Look, changes in post have happened plenty of times before which resulted in titles becomming easier to get. This is the first time since the introduction of pre festival drops that we in pre have another way to work toward these titles. It still takes effort to obtain the collectible drops, it's not like there is a keg-farming build in pre or anything. All this really does is risk lowering the price of title point items, which is the real reason most people are upset about it. But just think, it will likely raise the price of collectible items.71.194.222.133 12:28, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Lowered prices won't really hurt anyone, anyway, since there'll be way more items available. --Mme. Donelle 13:06, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Hey 71.194.222.133, how about you sign up to wiki and make a name instead of that silly IP? :) Suicidal Romance X 22:57, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
What if he dont?--142.204.86.103 15:20, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Come on, anyone who 'paid millions of gold' just to max those titles in pre deserves everything they get. :P --84.92.169.252 23:45, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Trivia[edit]

What??? "These are a few of my favorite things" is trivia? How??? Anybody can use that in a normal conversation. Remove please. Syntheticfibers 04:02, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

It's also a line in a well known song from a well known musical, and Guild Wars contains numerous musical references, making the trivia plausible. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 05:34, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Anybody can say that, but it's not said, it's quoted in a gift wrapping. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 09:48, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

The quote comes from the Sound of Music fyi. --96.8.131.136 00:12, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

it's also a word-to-word quote from Favourite Things by The Golden Filter ([1]), which i think is far more real to be the true referense, as Gifts were released around the same time as the song, while 1956 musical is far less known than pop music.--95.140.92.6 03:46, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Game Developpers should make impossible to leave Pre searing with Gift of the Huntsman on the character leaving[edit]

This is my solution to reduce the amount of people scammed because they are not aware of the existence of 2 different types of nicholas' gifts. I know that sellers trading Gift of the Huntsman for the price of Gifts of the traveler arent "trully" scamming (they just abuse people). Both gifts are from Nicholas. But Gift of the Huntsman's content worth 1500g MAX, and 500/700g most of the time.

So by making those gifts impossible to leave pre-searing under their gifts' form, this should reduce the amount of people paying 5 to 8k for items that worth 10 times LESS. --Donahu 12:23, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Another solution is to change the rarity of the item.

  • Gift of the Huntsman -> white, blue or purple rarity.
  • Gifts of the traveler -> keep the gold rarity status.

--Donahu 12:25, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

The cat is out of the bag. There are a great many Gifts of the Huntsman in post already. Further, what would you do compensate for their removal? People have put in lots of hard work into collecting them. The change in tag color, or better, a change of skin to make the difference more apparent would work. --mtew 15:56, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
It is never later to fix things. When the guild hall bug allowed player to go to their guild halls from pre-Searing, they didn't add all items you can buy in the merchant or a skill trainer in pre-Searing. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 23:52, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
They have a completely different graphic, anyone who get's scammed by this will learn their lesson pretty quick. Always check what you are buying. I expect putting in a mechanic to prevent you leaving pre with it would be quite difficult. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 23:59, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
It is not. Checking if you have an item is one of the basic processes in dialogs, and to leave pre-Searing you must talj to a mission starter NPC. Like you can't enter some Nightfall missions without a hero and like Nicholas can detect if you have a certain item, they can make Sir Tydus detect if any party member carries one. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 01:08, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
As Lemming said, the graphics are totally different. Falling for that scam is a very elementary mistake, and I think once will be enough for just about anyone. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 00:17, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
I dont ask for to remove that items Mtew. If it was impossible to take gifts of the huntsman out of pre-searing, their number in post searing will reduce fast. And I aggree with Mith, checking what's in inventory is a basic process of the game. When you fill a book, or pick up a stackable item that you already have in inventory, the game make a process to check your inventory. --Donahu 16:08, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Bit late on this, but here's an idea..why not LOOK at the items you're trading money for before clicking "accept"? It's not like there's a time limit Erring Ryft 00:34, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Limit[edit]

Do you know if Gift of the Huntsman and Gift of the Traveller count toward the same 5 per account limit? Basically if I get 5 GotH with one character on an account can I get 5 GotT with another? Rivendahl 18:17, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes, the Gift of the Huntsman limit is daily, while the Gift of the Traveler limit is weekly. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 01:37, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
The character is the same, but the NPC is different, so does the item and their mechanics. Their limits are separate too. getting a gift of the hunter does not affect the gifts of the traveler you can get. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 12:19, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
You can only trade for (up to) 5 Gifts of the Huntsman per Account per day and (up to) 5 Gifts of the Traveler per Account per week. (Reposting in case it isn't clear to people). 69.182.134.81 22:37, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Daily update?[edit]

Why is this section even here? The information is on the MAIN PAGE and the Nicholas Sandford page, and is updated automatically on both pages. If it really needs to be tracked here, why not just use the code on either of those pages to do it? --Max 2 14:55, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

I agree, it's a bit superfluous. User Xelonir sig.pngXelonir 06:22, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Added the corresponding code from the mainpage to get an automated entry. User Xelonir sig.pngXelonir 06:33, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Funny. I just found out the information on this page is outdated after farming the item listed (Spider Leg) and being asked for another item (Red Iris Flower), which, incidentally, is the one listed on the main page. I'll stick to that one as long as it's updated more regularly. -- 88.153.34.206 19:02, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Maybe a caching problem? For me it displays the correct item at the moment. User Xelonir sig.pngXelonir 06:33, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Trivia (2)[edit]

Really, people thought the "Favorite things" quote was from the sound of music? It is from OPRAH WINFREY. Every year she does the "Favorite Things" episodes, and gives away all kinda of shit. Obvious reference.

--Norrukki User Norrukki SigIcon.png 01:24, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Lol no I don't think so. Arena net is much more likely to make a reference to a cult movie (like TSoM) rather than Oprah -.- Also.. the line "these are a few of my favourite things" is a line from the song... 2:03am, 29 November 2009 (NZST)

wts sarcasm detector? Foo 21:01, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

For the last time, the trivia comes from the play "The Sound of Music". It is part of a song. herp derp... lrn2history--96.8.131.136 00:14, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

brown paper packages tied up with string... honestly how can anyone think it's NOT a TSOM reference? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 90.206.126.224 (talk • contribs) at 13:15, 28 June 2011 (UTC).

CHANGE IT[edit]

today's item is spider legs, not dull carapaces. i suggest you get up to date and change the item because it said do not edit here (on the page) because it automatically changes but if it doesn't and if it keeps interfering with people finding the item of the day (its only as daily thing so it needs to be edited immediately or relatively soon), people like me are going to erase the lie you call a automatic update part and enter it manually so the work actually gets done. no need to get worked up about it but you really need to get on the ball lol :P some people do this daily and need to get there stuff done. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.75.41.66 (talk).

It does say spider legs. piper doesn't talk 16:33, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Caching issue. Click on the time or press shift+F5, it will show the most up-to-date version of the page. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 16:47, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
If it is really terribly pressing for you to know the item now-now-now, just go to Nicholas Sandford/Research. You can see what the items will be for the next 2 months. - Tanetris 17:26, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
There's also usually people announcing the item (in the party search window) in Fort Ranik. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 17:29, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Nicholas Sandford wont talk to me[edit]

Nicholas Sandford wont talk to me, he says thankyou to me but I haven't given him anything yet... I am not sure how to report a bug but I know he has one as this has happened several times now. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.115.95.237 (talk).

You're probably experiencing the same bug as noted at Talk:Nicholas Sandford#Unable to trade with Nicholas?. --Silver Edge 03:32, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Change in drops?[edit]

The wiki notes say honeycombs drop as frequently as all the other items in the gifts. Is this still true? March 2011 -- and if they've stopped putting honeycombs in the gifts, does anyone know when they changed it? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Dwst (talk).

are you seeing something different? What leads you to believe that the drop rate has changed for GotH?  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:10, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

I opened 109 GotH and got 85 honey, 90 rockets, 90 sparklers, 100 aged hunters ale, 85 regular ale, but only 35 champagne poppers and 60 honeycombs. GigaClon 04:15, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

That's still within the odds. It's not surprising to see uneven drop rates when you are only opening 100 or so gifts. My last 100, I had very few sparklers, but lots of honeycombs and honey jars. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:22, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

How come price stays same?[edit]

A pretty noob question, but isn't it a bit curious that GoTH stays around 300g-350g..

always? Everything else in pre has gone up (runes/kits/bags) but Goth stayed same. How come?

71.139.21.52 18:00, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

The 320g price tag stays about the same because the items are worth roughly double that on average in Post. Some people are buying them to mule them to post and others are working on Party Animal, Drunkard, etc. Some of the other things, especially the Kits have decreased drop rates, thus higher prices. 98.209.170.176 02:28, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Prices remain stable because people are only willing to pay that much to gain titles. The prices of runes/kits/bags have gone up because they help make LDoA easier, but title-farming is a different occupation. There's little point in paying 500Gold for a GotH if you intend to mule it to post, since you can acquire title with less trouble directly. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:57, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
