Shards of Orr[edit]

I've been collecting drop research for two or three weeks here. I've got 44 runs logged and I'm still going (because what else have I got to do before gw2 launches?). Anyone who wants to check it out is welcome. --User Timeoffire45 sig.jpg Timeoffire45 rawr 21:23, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Random or not?[edit]

Has anyone tested whether hidden treasures spawn randomly or whether they are always at the same spot? Also, the info on treasures should go on the individual dungeon page, fits better there and too much info for one page anyway. --Xeeron 13:55, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Same spot. That's how the chest above can fall through the floor every time. Backsword 09:48, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
  • Based on the locations given and what is actually found, it seems the drops are randomized among a number of fixed locations. So while the locations for a possible treasure spawn are fixed, the probability that a given location will actually spawn is not. Some locations always seem to spawn (like ally spawns), others (like loot) do not. For example, if Allies = number of ally spawns, and the Treasures = number of treasure spawns, then the total number of spawn locations will be:
  • Allies + (Treasures + N) = Total Number of Locations, where N = some number of surplus locations not actually used per run, but a surplus only applied to treasures and not allies. "N" appears to be a fairly small number, so most of the stated locations should spawn, but you may find some locations that have not been mentioned yet. I have posted a few new ones myself. --Rpger 00:22, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

One use only?[edit]

Are these one use only? I fif the [[Bloodstone Caves second level beginning one time to get the treasures, resigned to go get a quest reward and then came back to find no treasures at all. -- Gem (gem / talk) 16:32, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

  • the spots are fixed, doesnt always appear though (KILL MementoMori 04:17, 18 March 2009 (UTC))

New drops[edit]

With the update today, these seem to drop lockpicks and dungeon maps in normal mode.

Rare Crafting Materials[edit]

Checklist (cross out everything observed)

I was helping a guildie do a dungeon and uncovered a Hidden Treasure that yielded for her an Onyx Gemstone, which I thought was worthy of mention. Maybe they can drop Rubies and Ectos, too? ;) --Cjad the Nord 16:41, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

I saw a diamond drop once. Brownspank 15:24, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
They drop rubies (pre update). Never saw an ecto though. --Xeeron 17:00, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
I've added a checklist. I suspect that they can drop everything except amber, clay, ectoplasm, jadeite and obsidian. -- Gordon Ecker 07:09, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
I haven't paid attention to HM farming (except that they drop materials more often in HM) these chests, but i took the liberty of scratching off materials I have gotten from them in normal (which, for the record, is almost everything. Yay for farming Cathedral of Flames 300 times for FoW armor). Mesodreth Blackwing 23:46, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Found a Monstrous Fang in NM --Mic Zvpunry 18:30, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
I got a Bolt of Damask once in CoF on HM Swift Aura
They're supposed to be crossed off if they drop, I've added a note. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 06:49, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Better drops in Hard Mode?[edit]

Are the drops from these Hidden Treasures better in Hard Mode? Perhaps there should be a seperate research table to see the differences between NM and HM treasures. kaheiyeh 09:45, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure they are better in Hard Mode. In a dungeon run on NM, I contantly got 50s and 60s from them, whereas in HM I got 150+, maps, lockpicks and even an onyx. Ooooze~ Lowerletters 18:04, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Only money increases in Hard Mode, material drops seem to be the same (i've gotten a couple of Ruby's in NM too) (KILL MementoMori 19:04, 17 May 2009 (UTC))

Dialogue[edit]

I recently got a Dungeon Map, and if i remember right, the treasure "said" something diffrent than "you take what was hidden". —ZerphatalkThe Improver 16:46, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Glitch on first treasure in Cathedral of Flames[edit]

On the third level right outside of the entrance usually there is a marker revealed when using Light of Deldrimor, yet when I cast again to bring up the box it gives the message that the LoD has revealed it but the chest never spawns. 118.92.28.39 02:34, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

On a run today, I heard a rumor that the chest is more likely to bug if you don't kill the monsters near it. Noelahg 23:35, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Random rare item?[edit]

In this edit, an unregistered editor added "random rare item" to the list of possible drops. Has anyone seen one of these drop anything besides gold, cash or rare crafting materials? If not, that entry should be removed. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 07:59, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Maybe he/she confused these chests to treasures found in NF campaign. I don't recall ever getting any rare items from Hidden Treasures. Mediggo 08:33, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

NPC or Interactive object?[edit]

I have been doing lots of CoF runs lately...And I have been seeing that the hidden treasures are considered NPC, as it gives me some messages such as "You cannot attack (invulnerability)" "im Talking to Hidden Treasure!" I posted this as an anormally.--Calerouxz 22:50, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Happens with Xunlai Chests too. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 00:04, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

High end chest?[edit]

I'm assuming they don't, but do these count as high end chests (ie count towards treasure title)? Chibot2000 23:38, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

They don't. Only chests with a key cost of 600 or higher (or locked chests that require a lockpick) count towards Treasure Hunter title track. --Lhoj 14:02, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Skepticism[edit]

Perhaps I'm being overly skeptical, but I have some trouble believing that Amber, Jade, Ectoplasm, and Obsidian drop from Hidden Treasures. Could someone confirm that these materials do in fact drop? --Irgendwer 09:12, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure Amber and Jade drop, but I don't believe for a second that Ectoplasm and Obby Shards do.--User Oneshot O.JPGneshot. moo. 09:54, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Agreed, I've done every dungeon dozens of times, always carrying LoD, and never ever saw one dropping neither for me nor to my partymates. This must be proved with a screenshot or at least, be confirmed by a bunch of trustworthy players. --Lhoj 10:20, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
I just reviewed the history page and found that a lot of very rare matereial were added on dec. 30th 2009. I'm calling vandalism on this one and reverting his changes. Thank's for your vigilance ;) --Manassas User Manassas Mannysig.png 10:29, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Ty for your work reviewing all the history. I'm not saying that something is false just because I haven't seen it happening, but some things seem so weird that it's hard to believe it if there's no proof of it :) --Lhoj 10:41, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
You seem to be living in those dungeons. Could you try to confirm if Elonian Leather squares drop from them (I suspect they do and you didn't include them in your exclusion note). --Manassas User Manassas Mannysig.png 11:07, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure they do, though I have no screenies to prove it. I play very little now, and when I do I try to finish up some titles (such as lucky, wisdom..) so I haven't been into a dungeon for a while, but I'll try to get it confirmed --Lhoj 11:33, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Locations updated?[edit]

Just ran Oola's Lab for the TPS Zaishen and had a stupidly large number of hidden treasures (10 on the boss floor + the Dwarf... similar numbers on each of the previous floors), have locations been changed, or is something else afoot? 188.220.249.213 23:48, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Wow 10 treasures. Serious? :D the bugged treasures got fixed in the recent update Feedback:Game updates/20111103 --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 00:31, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Results of fixed bug[edit]

The recent bug fix (noted above) did more than just ensure that previously hard-to-reveal treasures would appear: now, every possible treasure (and ally) is marked with the ball of light and every ball of light exposes a treasure (or ally).

  • I have yet to see a new location: every LoD treasure I've found across several dungeons is one in which I've either seen a ball of light, a ping, and/or an actual treasure.
  • As before the fix, the locations aren't fixed — they can vary by approximately the radius of the aggro bubble. So, marking them on a map (or memorizing them) is a reliable way of finding the treasures without pinging their locations ahead of time.

This means that:

  • There are now tons of treasures available (Frostmaw's has at least 7-8 on L5 alone; Oola's has about 10 on L3). → It's probably always worth it to bring LoD to HM dungeons with more than one level. (e.g. I'm averaging 1-2 lockpicks per visit).
  • There are enough hits per level now that we can probably collect useful drop rate data.
  • We should probably remap all of the locations, since our old maps might easily have confused two nearby locations.
    • We should probably do this soon, since it's possible that Joe did not intend that all treasures be revealed on every visit.

Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:32, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

The original intent with the treasures was for them to be randomly available, but the code responsible for that was one of the culprits that caused the unrevealable treasures. They'll all be available for now as a perk for enduring the bugged version. It's fun for them to be a little random though, so I'll likely add that element back eventually. - Joe Kimmes Talk Page‎ 21:09, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
With luck, not before we've managed to document their locations. I do like the idea of ANet allowing us to grab all treasures as a sort of apology (kind of like getting a free ticket after getting bumped from your flight.) (Thank you again.)Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:24, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
See: the Guild Wiki project to document all locations for LoDs. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:29, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
So this somewhat a holiday present to all us dungeoneers? ^_^ --Falconeye 01:52, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
No, this has nothing to do with any holiday (in-game or otherwise). (1) Joe had this on his to-do list for at least two years (his post there implies longer still). (2) The fix was released on November 3. It's not even coincidentally close to an event.
Still, I am grateful both for the fix and for the ability to take advantage of all the LoDs appearing, however temporary that aspect might be. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:37, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for fixing this. The first time I raided Shards of Orr after the fix, the second level lit up like a Christmas tree! You can take your time about setting up the random locations again. :) --Lady Chaos de Uru
