Meanwhile...[edit]

2 variants? Burning and non-burning? Or is my GW/the new update just bugged a bitty? Gaudy Gourd God 19:23, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

GW2 Hounds burn, GW1 Hounds only simmer. The Only Warrior 19:27, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
I believe they begin burning once you have captured them. :) Hound of Balthazar burning Varient.jpg --Find And Seek User Find And Seek sig.png 19:32, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
So they do then, WTB bag of marshmellows! The Only Warrior 19:36, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Mine went the other way, it was burning when I first saw it, then once I'd captured it and mapped to another area it stopped burning. Personally I'm hoping this is a bug and they're meant to be burning all the time. 86.147.151.141 19:45, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

It IS a bug, sometimes burning animation isn't showed Maciej ʞlɐʇ 19:49, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
The burning happens when the hound is cap/non-cap., it just depends on you computer adding the animation. --Thon Ghul User Thon Ghul Signature 2.jpgTalk 00:10, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
dont know about anyone else but I found the hound burnt when I was alone or with heroes and not burning with other real people, tried with a couple of guildies and solo from several outposts, same conclusion in each. Spark-TBa 17:52, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
I've found mine is very rarely burning, no matter who I'm with. Even when I've been in the same map multiuple times, or map out and back in again. I think I've seen it burning 3 times since I captured it on the first day they were avaliable. :( 109.145.214.31 09:13, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Map[edit]

I took a screenshot of my map once I finally made my way to where they are in the Menagerie:

Thanks a ton. --UserZathicSig.PNGZathic 21:21, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks so much! I was having an awful time trying to find those silly things. Singing Wolf 09:45, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

The Hound of Balthazar shares location with the Black Moa.
(edit) Also, your pathing has a large detour, theres a shortcut through the center by taking the stairs.

Rename[edit]

Suggest renaming thread to "Hound of Balthazar", as it is singular. The Only Warrior 19:30, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Nice[edit]

I hereby declare these puppies as officially awesome. Kruhljak (talk) 19:56, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

These are indeed an interesting addition. There's going to be a bunch of people who will type in /petname Hot Dog — 108.49.47.208 21:22, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
/agreed, very nice :D --Mooseyfate 01:45, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Evolution[edit]

When they evolve, they lose the 'of Balthazar' suffix of the name.. I was hoping for a mouthful name, instead it's just "Hearty Hound" or "Dire Hound" --92.25.47.219 20:26, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

I don't want to create a new tab just to say this, but they do not attack, so they can't be death leveled. at least, when I tried taming mine it refused to. much like the white moa.174.100.25.69 20:58, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Of course they can be death leveled. No animal attack you in the Menagerie, but 1) you can attack it to get a Hearty version and 2) you can kill yourself with Blood is Power and/or vampiric weapons and get heroes to resurrect you, since it still appears when heroes are around. I've just finished death leveling mine. tazer 21:19, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
I agree with Tazer (:.. They are really cool... --Thon Ghul User Thon Ghul Signature 2.jpgTalk 00:12, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
My apologies, I forgot completely that level 5 pets don't attack in the menagerie. now I feel stupid, and excuse my ignorance that that death leveling works, I was under the assumption the pet had to deal damage to get the experience, so cool.174.100.25.69 17:05, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
lol... "of balthazar" name loss? hahaha mine is named "Indigestion" now. really this fiery doggie seems to have some good fun potential. now i gottan figure out a way i can go 2nd ranger with comfort and have him come along with me. He's done the lvling but i want him following me around at times... death lvl is no prob... phoenix tended to wander too far. set the rez cycle up in a good spot hit one of the 2 doggies and BOTH go hostile. if u r in a good spot u will have 2x lvl 20 doggies near you 15 min later and can pick one... BEST PET EVAR!!!72.71.226.115 18:29, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

no pet[edit]

for some reason mine not popping up in combat anyone else have this problem?

Did you go to the required NPC first like it says. leechers.veeber.net 21:40, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Beach> fire lady on boat> menagerie>charm him... insert death lvl in there if u want him at lvl 20

hes popping up now jst had a small glitch

Idea[edit]

Are these perhaps immune to the burning condition? And if they aren't, can they made to be that way? ^^ Derikvyreflame 21:41, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

It wouldn't be fair to use these in pvp against other pets then. Just enjoy it being cute and cuddly. 95.180.84.110 21:49, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Its innate ability is fire damage rather than regular damage. Good enough I suppose.216.19.115.62 21:52, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Mabari?[edit]

They look like the Mabari in Dragon Age :o

Rare pet in HoM?[edit]

Is it considered a rare pet in HoM? 72.200.53.160 22:56, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

No. 66.211.124.202 07:41, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

White Moa instead of Hound[edit]

Ceira gave me a White Moa instead of the Hound, did anyone else had this bug?

I got this bug too. It's just lack of descriptions for other languages. In english all fine. 188.123.237.157 05:42, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Unlock Name[edit]

When I unlocked this pet the H of Hound is in small letters. --MageUser MageMontu sig.pngMontu 19:15, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
User MageMontu hound of Balthazar.jpg

He/she means lower case. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 19:17, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Yeah sry lower case, kinda busy with photoshop atm while lvling my hound and watching Family Guy =P --MageUser MageMontu sig.pngMontu 19:19, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Disables Skills?[edit]

Did anyone else notice that it disables all of your skills when it dies? Is that a bug or is that what it's supposed to do? If so then epic lamesauce... I'll upload a video in a bit. Blacksheepghost 19:45, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

That happens with all pets. -- FreedomBound 19:54, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
When did they update that? It never happened when I used to play a pet, although that was a few years ago.Blacksheepghost 20:10, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
I've been playing for 6 years and it's been happening all 6 of those years. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 20:51, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm just waiting for someone to discover that it doesn't leave an exploitable corpse or that it makes SoC's become one use only. Manassas User Manassas Mannysig.png 21:55, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
NO!!!! That would be horrible! ;-) 64.15.81.27 22:02, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
It's much less noticeable when you're playing a "beastmaster" build, as Beast Mastery reduces the duration of the disabled effect. I swear there used to be more information about that on the wiki, but I can't seem to find it in any of the main pet related articles. -- FreedomBound 23:40, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Besides the Beast Mastery page, there's also information about it at Animal companion#Mechanics and behavior. --Silver Edge 04:31, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, the animal companion line was the one I was overlooking. -- FreedomBound 11:29, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Death-Leveling Disabled[edit]

The moas in the cave are happily leveling up while I die over and over but the hounds won't have it. And yes, I've made them aggressive. Looks like they made them un-death-level-able. >;( --Ph03n1x 01:14, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Nope, I DL'd mine. Kill everything (in range) you don't plan on capturing. -- FreedomBound 01:36, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Reminds Me Of...[edit]

... the way the demon dogs in Ghostbusters run with their head cocked to the side & huge shoulders. Awesome!

Has anyone's grown as it leveled up so far none of my friends hounds have.--98.247.176.233 10:21, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
Yes, mine definitely has.

Bug[edit]

How many name bugs does this dog have? Da Mystic Reaper 17:46, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

technically 1, the animation not always appearing, the other two on the page i would consider translation issues to do with the npc not the hound itself, so imo there not bugs there anomolies.  :)Spark-TBa 18:12, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Size[edit]

The page states "Unlike other animals, Hounds of Balthazar remain the same size regardless of level." but this is not true. I can take a screen shot if people require it. I just though I'd mention it so some one can remove it from the page. User Tytan Crow Crow.jpg Titan Crow 21:14, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Desolation[edit]

in the desolation the hound turns into a junundu, not like any pet that just dies when entering a wurm spoor maybe a fun advantage for vq. if you want response talke to archerofchaos currently retrieving acount information and password so86.93.153.15

.png[edit]

Can somebody please upload a .png image of this guy? --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 00:07, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Another bug?[edit]

With the addition of the new rollerbeetle pet, I thought I'd go ahead and death level the hound too. However, even though I unlocked it when it was offered during the birthday celebration on every account, it's now not appearing in the menagerie or from Wynn on several accounts? --Darius Shalnin 17:21, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

I'm not having any problems accessing the hound via Wynn (you do recall that its stored beneath "Exotic" pets?) or in the menagerie. -Chieftain Alex 17:32, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I can get to it on some accounts in the menagerie, and Wynn points out that it's still level 5 on those accounts. However, on others it's not available, and I know for certain I unlocked it on all accounts. --Darius Shalnin 23:24, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
