Strange Note[edit]

I experienced that, despite all Locked Chest need a Lockpick and have the same cost, The Loot in Low-Level Areas is more often Purple than in High-Level Areas. E.g. in Ascalon and Istan, around the half was purple. In The Southern Shiverpeaks or in the Desolation, i got Purple items only very rarely, most of them were gold. The only difference why this could be is that the opponents have slightly lower levels... Zerpha The Improver 22:19, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

GW:EN Chests Bugged?[edit]

I have used 5 lockpicks in various GWEN chests and all of them broke with a 40% chance of surviving, has anyone had a lockpick not break in a GWEN chest?~ Zero rogue x 05:26, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Hmm this might be worth some research. I noticed that I have been very unlucky with GWEN chests as well. My stated chance of retaining the lockpick is 48%, yet 5 out of 6 lockpicks broke. They changed something in the retaining probability for GWEN, so maybe there is a bug somewhere in there. Then again, we might just be very unlucky. --Xeeron 09:56, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
I observed the same though. My lockpicks break far more often than one would expect with a 42% chance of retaining them. -- Cynaes 10:24, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Bit of an update word around is that the chests ARE bugged, Seems that anet forgot to change the chance of the locked chests. So even though they say they are 40%+ they are really 10%+ ~ Zero rogue x 09:40, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
I've retained around 75% of my lockpicks on GW:EN chests with a stated 54% chance. I think you're just running into bad luck and that there isn't a bug. --Rainith 10:44, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Well all is fine then, I was only worried because the way they updated the lock pick retain rate (giving a fixed bonus%) seemed likely to be cause of a bug. --Xeeron 11:27, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
I have a 55% chance to retain and haven't noticed an absurd amount of them breaking. It is probably just variance. A test of 6 chests on a probability based thing is hardly conclusive. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 12:38, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, funny this, the first Locked Chest I have ever opened was on Eye of the North, and it succeeded.

I have 13% chance to retain a lockpick and i have opened 3 chests with one lockpick...Apart from that i seem to retain my lockpicks quite often.-Teh Eternal Mage
Even with a pretty ok chance of rataing the key I seem not to retain them most of the time. I've spent dozens ok keys so far and I'm way below what I should be. -- Gem (gem / talk) 10:10, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
The "lucky" and "Unlucky" title track can influence the chance of breaking a lockpick...

i opened 12 chests on 1 lockpick and got 9 golds, that is allover gw:en, asura and vanguard areas in particularWords can heal 10:42, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I, too, have had remarkable luck with Gwen chests. I've opened about 30 on 4 picks and only 2 items have been purple.

My luck has been fine for GWEN chests. I took a run in the norn territory with 1 pick and opended about 12 before it broke, plus i only got 2 purples, so it's probably that, maybe some chests are bugged, and bad luck. Lord Zepherr 3:53, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

I successfully retained a lockpick on a GWEN chest and it only had a 35% chance of being retained. Sellena Helena 20. May. 2008

I have bought and used (in small ammounts) at least one stack of lockpicks. and have retained all of them but one at least once i dont know if im just lucky or wat but they are definetly retainable i have like my entire storage and a pvp toon full of gold item from them--Briar 18:41, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Briar
I don't know why that has happened to you because i used 5 lockpicks in a row a none of them broke and the last one was 36% chance of survival its strange how it happens to some people and not other.--User:cerser

Opened 30 locked chests with 57% chance to retain and only manage to retain 6 times... this is like HM rate >.<58.96.71.52 01:58, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Tomes in GW:EN[edit]

On the page it states that locked chests can be found in GW:EN. It also states that tomes may be found in Locked Chests. I haven't found any tomes in nomral mode and i havent done enough hard mode to find a tome form a chest. I think there should be a clarification in the article that tomes are only available in Hard Mode, even if locked chests are in regular areas of GW:EN.

The confusion arises as Locked chests only appeared in Hard mode previously. Tome's ONLY drop in hard mode. I will add a clarification. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 16:19, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
On a side note, can anyone confirm that they've had an tome from a GW:EN chest in hard mode? I've been running locked chests in fronis dungeon hard mode and have never got a tome from it. Sadie2k 00:32, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

im not sure about the chests but i can tell you that i have gotten a warrior tome drop in GW:EN

I was just in Cathedral of Flames and one of my teammates got an Elite Ritualist Tome drop from a locked chest in Hard Mode, therefor Tomes CAN drop from chests in GW:EN.--Avatar of grenth 05:52, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

--ok, does this only apply to locked chests outside of dungeons? to test this theory, i have just done (6.3.09) 30 chest openings HM in fronis' dungeon on the kilroy quest. In the 30 chest drops i got 1 normal monk tome, 1 normal ritualist tome, 2 normal dervish tomes, and 1 elite paragon tome. if anything i would say that eotn has the possibility of any tome in the game dropping. though it may be enemy specific, because the dwarves in the dungeon do seem to drop a lot of dervish weapons and have dervish runes in their armours. who knows. i'l do 30 chest runs in a different dungeon later. - and then 60 outside a dungeon in a random explorable.. lets just say bjora marshes, coz its cool - Elephant Bones.

I got an elite ranger tome from a locked chest in Bjora Marches. Paddymew 17:50, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
I just got an Elite Necromancer Tome doing Kilroy Stonekins Punch Out Extravaganza. 71.100.212.254 12:51, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

In November 2008 these locked chests in EOTN didn't drop elite tomes. This was fixed with one of the many updates. Today I decided to destroy some cash and run some chests that I used to run before november 2008 in HM! And the very first chest rewarded me with an elite paragon tome. Funny chest[edit]

We are currently doing Abaddon's Mouth hard mode. One chest we encountered dropped 2 elite mesmer tomes for one ranger in the party. I then loaned a lockpick for an elementalist, but the chet was completely unselectable for him and he couldn't open it at all. Did the ranger steal the elementalists drop or something? lol. -- Gem (gem / talk) 13:18, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Yes, this happens often. I have had a party of 8 with 6 users using a lockpick on a chest and 2 users got a double drop of elite tomes. The other two that didn't open the chest were unable to when loaned a lockpick. — Rappy 18:50, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Regarding observed drops[edit]

If someone wants to make it, my suggestion is to but it in a separate article (not talk) and then to add it to the drop rate category.--Yankeefan984 23:01, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

This would be something fun I would like to do. I have been running chests lately and would like to share the drops with others, but have no where to record the information. I have been strictly opening Vabbi Chests in HM (so they are locked chests). Would I create a page under Locked Chest\Area article or Vabbi Chest article to record my drops? Bug Section[edit]

There are some spelling mistakes in the bug section. -> "and >stiil< all party >memebers< could still open the locked chest.", can someone correct that? Additonaly 2 times still doesn't sound very good. (: User:Erz

you big dummy, edit it yourself, thats what the edit button is for. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:76.240.21.156 (talk).

Just do your own editing,AND DOES ANY ONE HAVE AN ASSASSIN'S ELITE/NORMAL SKILL TOME???

Dur dur dur.... --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:70.211.165.151 (talk).

Calling someone dummy without seeing that it is already done by that person is called selfowned, tard Nox 12:15, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Is the Bug note even an appropriate section for "However, a player got 3 Elite tomes and still all party members could open the locked chest."? That contradicts the bug and should probably only be mentioned in the discussion as a rare occurrence or anomaly to the bug... 173.67.13.30 06:30, 29 December 2008 (UTC) Be nice boys. You know what happeneds to jerks. *points down*

DROPS Issue[edit]

I dont like the fact that the items in these chest especially weapons are relative to the expansion. Would it be fair to change these items to be GWEN mods instead of getting crappy item that dont have GWEN mods.

Double Tome Drop Question[edit]

Has anyone observed if getting a double or even triple tome drop gives you double or triple lucky/unlucky points if you retain/break? 71.125.229.74 06:58, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

As far as I'm concerned the title points given for using a locked chest are independent of what item(s) drop out of the chest. Josh 16:02, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Hey! I just got a triple Elite Necro tome drop from 1 locked chest in mission HM. Must be lucky! The other players still can open the chest.

Just got 2 elite necro tomes from a locked chest in Eastern Frontier. All members of my party opened the same chest after I did. --174.130.228.106 22:31, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Modes[edit]

Does the locked chest give the same rarity of rewards in hard and normal modes in EOTN?

Are you wondering whether Locked chests drop the same ratio of items in nm and HM? I've only seen one person post data for 100s of chest runs in both nm and HM and they found HM chests (Ice Cliffs) were more likely to have gold rarity items. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:01, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
