Talk:Onyx Gemstone

I don't know if this is really worth mentioning if they have never been seen to drop, only on the rare occasion are they found in the Rare Material Traders inventory, and even then, the last time I think someone said they saw it was months and months ago. I guess just in case some random person gets one from the trader they can at least come here to see that no one knows what its for...or how to attain one as a drop? 68.104.205.160 03:08, 1 April 2007 (EDT)umph

There is only one in existence that I know of, and you are correct; it doesn't do jack. Dawnspire 15:48, 4 April 2007 (EDT)

Most likely will have a use in Eye of the north. The Holy Llama 18:39, 24 April 2007 (EDT)

That would be cool :D -- 87.177.248.87 10:34, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

Onyx has been in the game since the very beginning, it has no use and probably never will.

Until GW:EN maybe :D
Well people of the past, it does not have a use! It is required for Destroyer weapons ;) Mantis Touch (large).jpg Sheon talk to meh 22:15, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Usage[edit]

Perhaps if one acquires enough of them, and combines them using Alchemy, this guy will be created. I know, bad pun. File:Esig2.jpg Eldin 20:18, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

There gonna be used in GW-EN now - Chrisworld 00:06, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm just hoping they're not a requirement for some awesome armor... it'll be vabbian all over again, but then again, what can they be used for? I mean, diamonds are the complete opposite of them... just like jade and amber, ruby and sapphires... I'm rambling on now aren't I? I'll shut up now 68.204.126.178 01:34, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Don't see how it's different from Obsidian armour. Good suit? Costly. -- NecromancerArkhar 22:31, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
I just got an Onyx Gemstone at the end of Frostmaw's Burrows dungeon in GW:EN. Calor 01:36, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
They are given as quest and dungeon rewards in EotN. Very likely used for some ascended armour, though it's confirmed that it's not needed for Norn armour. Maestro Ed 01:42, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Maybe it is for asura armor as there have been hints at a connection between the Asura and the Mursaat, ie Rata Sum (asuran capitol) is a anagram of Mursaat, and there was the Onyx Gate protected by the Mursaat, also if the asura are helping the Shining blade then maybe thats another link to mursaat, and of course its rumoured the mursaat capitol is in Maguma Jungle.
Wow you are pretty good^^
i just got dwarven armor (last city in gwen) didnt require it there atleast.
They are used for Destroyer Weapons, the collector for them is in Slavers Exile. The items cost 10 Onyx, 10 Diamonds, 250 stone, 100 iron and 5k There has been rumor to whether or not you can get in there prior to beating EotN or not but, I've only tried after beating it. Hopefully this helps.

Onyx[edit]

Zho has a pet called Onyx in eye of the north but the page onyx re-directs to here. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:79.66.17.142 .

mob drop[edit]

any mobs drop thise, or is it like the stupid chest greens whitch never, EVER, appear for me?

Rarity[edit]

Rarity is RARE, can anyone else confirm? I'm changing for now, feel free to revert w/ proof. Mr.Hobo 02:11, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Strike that, didn't understand how it worked... Mr.Hobo 02:13, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Page Composition Out of Whack[edit]

Has anyone else noticed that this article's table of other rare materials seems to go out into infinity? Even with 24" widescreen it doesn't fit on my monitor. Edit: Just checked on the other 'Rare materials' pages and they have the same problem. 76.226.144.62 05:24, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Incorrect trivia[edit]

In stead of the current (incorrect) trivia, Shouldn't we rather say that this has always been in the game but had no drop location, use or storage slot prior to the August 2007 update? Manassas Ritualist-tango-icon-20.png 10:57, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

OK, I changed the page to reflect the above. I admit the change only has value to the history geeks among us, but alas... Manassas Ritualist-tango-icon-20.png 13:45, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Animal Companion[edit]

I don't think mentioning Zho's pet is trivia worthy. The name is derived from the first note, so as a derived trivia, it shouldn't be there. --JonTheMon 15:09, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Ok, then I am sry - erased it. But plz tell me the reason more clearly. I don't understand "The name is derived from the first note, so as a derived trivia, it shouldn't be there" - no ofense though, plz explain.Galactus 15:44, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
Onyx, the bird, is likely named after the real-life stone. This page is a very specific version of the stone. So, there is no connection between the bird and the gemstone, except through what they are based on. --JonTheMon 15:48, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and one person disagreeing with you is not automatic removal. You could have waited til we came to a consensus here. --JonTheMon 15:49, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
lol... I apologized already with the disagreement, but lets forget about that. So let me see if I got it : the bird was named AFTER the name of the stone - then, even if this is the only connection, I have indeed seen this fact before (trivia for similar or identical names) on some articles and not written by me (the trivia). Why not here too ? btw dont ask for examples - I dont remember...Galactus 16:31, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
