Merge, no ty. why should it be merged?--Eloc 03:59, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Maybe it's just me but in many other mmo's pbaoe is defined as "player based area of effect". Not that it really matters since it essentially means the same thing but is "point blank" "official" guild wars terminology or did someone just make it up 'cause it made sense. 72.223.77.197 02:43, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Starburst[edit]

Shouldn't it be a PBAoE? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 77.160.189.74 (talk).

Not if it's centered around target foe. 24.197.253.243 11:37, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
You have to target a foe with Star Burst. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 11:45, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
Hm, I see. I confused it with a PBAoE because it is a touch-skill, you see, I consider that PB. :D --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 77.160.189.74 (talk).
Nope, the 'official unofficial' use of PBAoE in GW is an effect with a range of adjacent or more, centered on the creature that activated it, that doesn't require a target to activate. The list, though, was some wrong entries, like Triple Chop, that DOES require a target to activate. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 18:17, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Kirin's Wrath and Symbol of Wrath[edit]

Wouldn't it make more sense to say that Kirin's Wrath is a duplicate of Symbol of Wrath, since Symbol was introduced before Kirin's? My Profession Gender 02:47, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

yea. Change it 24.150.172.7 02:51, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Even better =) Thanks, whoever changed it. My Profession Gender 09:49, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Contradiction with Area of effect[edit]

On the area of effect page, it lists PBAoE as the smallest range AoE. This page regards PBAoE as any skill with AoE centered on the user. These are two very different definitions, and both are referred to by the same name. I think this deserves to be looked at or changed. 104.0.42.202 16:25, 4 October 2017 (UTC) (Edit, forgot to sign)

It is not fully two different definitions, it is the skills listed on this page that muck it up. Point Blank as in right near the caster. Area of Effect as in effects that area. Under distances on the AoE page it states "directly adjacent to the user". This page does say shouts and wards are exceptions but also includes skills like AotL which is a spell with full spell range. PBAoE imo was always a reference to short range burst skills centered on the user, such as Flame Burst. There does need to be some revision to better differentiate between POINT BLANK and SKILLS CENTERED ON THE USER, which is imo two completely different things that somehow got merged. 71.169.169.83 19:29, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
See List of untargeted skills for skills centered on the user. --Falconeye (talk) 21:42, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
If list of untargeted skills contains the goal of this page (AoE's around the caster), then I think either this page should be edited to consist only of "directly adjacent to user" range skills or the terminology used in the Area of effect page should change and not link back to this page. 104.0.42.202 22:10, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
It is definitely the line "Point blank area of effect (PBAoE) describes a type of skill that creates an area of effect at the location of the user." on the article Point blank area of effect that is incorrect. A point-blank area of effect is an AoE that only affects point-blank range. In other words, an AoE that is 360 degrees directly adjacent to the user.
The list of untargeted skills is not specifically for AoE skills, so except for a sub-section on untargeted AoE skills there, we should simply correct the article for PBAoE. It's a good catch! - Infinite - talk 22:21, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
Also, to clarify entries such as Ebon Dust Aura (which is an AoE around the user, but reaches nearby targets as well) we should find terminology for PBAoE effects with wider effects. Earshot and spirit range skills are automatically centered around the user, we simply need to find fitting terms for nearby and in the area (and any other range centered around the user, such as compass range). - Infinite - talk 22:25, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
And finally, sorry for coming up with more points as I keep looking back and forth: AoE skills that are cast to a location are often referred to as PAoE skills (Point Area of Effect skills) or GTAoE skills (Ground-targeted Area of Effect skills). Although the main problem is that AoE terminology differs between various games and communities, so YMMV. - Infinite - talk 22:29, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
ArenaNet definitely went for the popular culture when referencing point-blank range: "extremely close "can't miss" range with a firearm, within four feet of its muzzle at moment of discharge yet not close enough to be a contact shot." Though Point Blank Shot definitely has a larger range than four feet. - Infinite - talk 22:33, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
Half-ranged skills has that covered. --Falconeye (talk) 22:52, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
