Its essentially a VERY conditional WEAKER Flare ... Amazing! 76.26.189.65 21:35, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
bitter chill as a related skill? 76.26.189.65 21:26, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Flare is a projectile spell and gets blocked by walls, you can shoot this lightning at people behind a castle like in Fort Aspenwood.

This is a decent damage skill when you have nothing better to do. Lay down your attack spirits, cast Painful Bond, spam this while your spirits do their stuff. It's better than Channeled Strike, anyway. Arshay Duskbrow 05:15, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Just a thought, but this, with Mindbender, and Attuned Was Songkai. At that point you would have, a 3 energy spell that would possibly allow for 120dps depending on lag and such. If you can afford the energy, you could switch in Glaive over Songkai and add in that extra kick to it.
Well, tested with a fast-cast mesmer since I dont have a Rit or Mindbender at this time. My DPS according to the master of damage was exactly Renewing Surge's listed damage, so the 1/2 cast would help, but not enough to truly make this over-powered. Guildwarsrunner 04:52, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Renewing Surge Renewing Surge- Same as Flare EnergySame as Flare Activation timeWay more than Flare Recharge time- "Inflicts less than Flare...less than Flare...less than Flare lightning damage. If you are holding an item, this has the same recharge as Flare, otherwise you FAIL until you change your build. (Attribute:Useless stupid garbage attributes)

Synergy says hi. ПALANA 20:13, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Wow....This skill is for support dah. Eg. Low level GvG: Rt/E on 8, you want more spike assist because you are new to the game. Channeled strike takes too long to cast and you cant time it as well as this spell. Flare is total shit and you can spike with this. Eg2. High(er) level GvG: Channeled strike takes too long to cast and gives away your spike, so you bring this 1s cast.--Silven 00:10, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Post Update[edit]

Eh, damage is nice and it bypasses the degen cap, net energy gain is nice but it's not really enough to be e-management just basically free damage, but the 15s recharge hurts, the most DPS you can ever do with this would be 1...5...6 because it has almost 50% downtime. Other channeling magic spells are already very damage:energy efficient and it's not hard for a rit to get e-management. Necromas 14:16, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

I see no reason to use this, you may as well just bring spirit siphon or essence strike. This skill is weak energy management. Damage is laughable. Only reason this should be used is if you need a hex on someone and don't have very good e-management (warriors maybe?... Nah screw this skill).K2K 07:57, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
It can be used as an alternate hex to fuel discordway. 59.100.118.70 07:34, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
Did one of you think about using this in a build with Anguished Was Lingwah and other rt-hexes ? It can be nice in conjuction with Lamentation for example, just my two cent. Lou Wolfskin 00:44, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Doesn't end when the caster dies...[edit]

Unlike Mind Wrack, Expose Defenses, Parasitic Bond, Insidious Parasite, Life Siphon, etc. Hexes that affect the caster generally end when the caster dies; this is an exception. User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 00:08, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Arcane Conundrum does not end upon the caster dying, and the end effect is identical. It is not an anomaly, thus removing. 206.167.101.2 16:36, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
And that skill should also have an anomaly tag. — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 23:16, 2 Mar 2011 (UTC)

What happens with hex removal?[edit]

There is nothing here about if it ends early due to hex removal... do you STILL get the extra E ? Foxfire 20:55, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Nearly every hex that has an end effect will have that effect trigger upon being removed by a hex removal skill, which is why it isn't noted on every hex spell page. Hexes that don't have their end effect trigger when it is removed by hex removal will have it noted in the Notes section (i.e. Lightning Surge). See End effect. --Silver Edge 04:56, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

The button on the bottom doesn't work[edit]

The "hexes that affect the caster" link on the bottom is broken, I don't know how to fix it. !104.0.42.202 02:26, 19 September 2017 (UTC)!

I've made a tentative fix; rather than linking to the skill category page, I linked it to the list of skills that 'do' end when the caster dies. As this was the same page linked to Death, I omitted the second link. If there is a better place to link it to, feel free to change as needed. --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Traveler (talk) 23:05, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
