split[edit]

do you think we should split this article? The Aquisition doesn't show which of the two skins exactly drops. It's actually the same problem as with all the weapon skins with same name and diffrent skin, with the exception that in this case the apperances are very similar. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:09, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Tyrian drops anywhere on continent of Tyria (so mainly in GW:EN), and I think, core areas while Canthan, I believe is only in Cantha (aka Shing Jea) Jennalee 11:48, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

BOOT[edit]

it's a boot lol --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.76.48.34 (talk • contribs) at 19:10, 24 October 2009 (UTC).

...on a stick lol. This has got to be one of the ugliest looking axes around. And as far as weapons goes right up their with the shadow scythe in terms of just looking silly.--Dar Drakor 16:45, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Split[edit]

Should we split this? All of the other weapons with multiple skins on the same name are split. These two are really similar though. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 19:44, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Differences of dye effects on the two versions' icons[edit]

User LicensedLuny Canthan vs Tyrian Serpent Axes dyed.png

After recently getting a Canthan-skin version of this axe in trade from a player who claimed to be selling me a Tyrian-skin version, I've been doing a lot of testing on ways folks might be able to tell the difference between the two versions from the trade window. I've found that the Canthan-skin version's icon will change color with dye, and the Tyrian-skin version's icon will not. I made this picture to show the differences.

If trading, please be aware that this difference does not offer a guaranteed way to be sure you're getting a Tyrian-skin version in trade; it offers such a guaranteed way only to be sure a Serpent Axe in the trade window is Canthan-skin. From the trade window, an icon changed by any color dye except yellow must be the Canthan-skin version. An icon unchanged by dye color could be either an undyed (or yellow dyed) Canthan-skin version or a Tyrian-skin version, dyed or undyed. I'll update the article about the different effects for sake of a more informative article. LicensedLuny 13:54, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Can/should a note be added to this article about which versions are available with inherent mods and which are available with inscription slots?[edit]

In the circles I run in, the forums I read, it's "common knowledge" that

  • a Serpent Axe with an inscription slot is always the Tyrian skin version,
  • a Serpent Axe with an inherent mod is either version. Of the inherent ones, their sources are:
    • Shing Jea Island foes, in normal or hard mode, can drop them. They are always Canthan-skin versions which are always either lacking an inherent mod or including an inherent mod. There are no sources of the Canthan-skin version with inscription slots.
    • The keyless reward chests during some parts of The Underworld, The Fissure of Woe, and the Sorrow's Furnace quest, "Kilroy Stonekin. Serpent Axes from these sources can still drop to this day. They are always the Tyrian-skin version and always purple-texted.
    • The keyless Hidden Stash chest-like objects in presearing. Serpent Axes from these are always the Tyrian-skin version and always white without any inherent mods at all, and they can still drop today.
    • Gold-text Serpent Axes with inherent mods can no longer drop at all, but some still exist in game. Known sources of them were:

Does anyone disagree with my accuracy or completeness in the above list? Is there a way to add such information to the article somewhere, at least the part about the inscribable ones always being the Tyrian-skin? I've met enough folks over the years who like either or both versions of the skin and would like to have one, but "common knowledge" from some relatively obscure forum thread is hardly as helpful to the general playerbase as an edit to this article.
