So what's the drawback? Raptaz 14:15, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

It's a signet, with touch range, and it looks ugly. --Curse You 01:42, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh and its gay 24.141.45.72 17:16, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
It's elite, it's mesmer, it's touch, it's a signet, it has a long recharge, and it blinds you too. --Lou-SaydusHow dare you put that damned dirty thing on me! 23:56, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Ohhh your lucky i'm tired right now cause i can go off on this right here. but i'm just ganna say this. they nerfed "Watch Yourself" THREE TIMES because it could be kept u "indefinatly" nvmd you have to aquire the adrenaline to use it (Blinds, Soothing, Soothing images, SYMPATHETIC VISSAGE AND IT DUPLICATE!!!). and here a skill that cost NOTHING not even adrenaline wich is a EARNED rescource unlike Energy which just flows from everyones arses. (some classes apparently have Dahrea). and it allows you to Permantly blind some one... use plague touch and you got two blinds... multiple targets in close prox use epidemic. oh and its unlinked so any mesmer or any/mesmer can fit it into their build. no points to move around nadda just here take this skill go fourth and blind. frankly people say warrior arent supposd to be able to heal themselves (wich is retarded cause in that case ALL monk spell shoulds say "target other ally" cause they aren't ment to be tanks either they are ment to be team support, am i not correct?) well i think it pretty gay that mesmer are able to cause conditions... how do you break someones armor by messing with their head... How do you break someones legs by messign with their head. how do you tear open their flesh and cause a deep wound by messing with their head!!! How do you cause someone to go blind by messsing with thier mind? why the hell is it that no only can mesmer cause blind but also carry a variety of hexes that have a Blind like effect. and you know primare awhat i'm ganna stop here cause i could go on all day about this lil abominatioin from the pits of HELL! Condition Last longer than recharge time

  • Skill cast with unearthly speed
  • Skill cost 0 Energy and 0 adrenaline
  • Skill chains well with other trasnfering skill, doubleing its effectivness
  • Range of the skill is Convientient as 3 of the 4 fighter classes are mellee
  • Blind is a very effective condition that easilly shuts down FIVE of the 10 Classes in the games.
  • Skill Embodies Unbalance

99.207.8.91 09:06, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Also it brings you right in the front lines so you will be taking whatever aoe nukes the opposing team is using, bringing you out from the distance making you a primary target for rangers to take you out with your sixty armor rating, making you a prime target for assassins with knockdown changes, and also allowing other melee classes to come up beside you and take you out instantly like dervishes.William Wallace 04:31, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

60 armor? this is no attribute, meaning anyone going /me can use it.

It doesn't bring you anywhere.. you just have to wait for them to come to you.. then just press c + SoM, then go back to your orginal target, and you are safe from the annoying melee. --Lumenil 04:43, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
William Wallace, why do I find myself doubting you've ever entered RA or TA? --67.176.107.126 04:45, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
It's true. This skill is immensely over-powered in the 4v4 arenas. It needs to go back to 15 recharge, as the new Plague Sending makes it too easy to spread blind over their frontliners without straining yourself in any way besides secondary. RitualDoll 23:53, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Really, "learn to play". ;-) 4v4 is overcrowded with melee classes, so most players consider these a more potent way to win than playing squishies. If we begin to see a massive flood of blindbots killing each other in RA or TA then we should begin to worry. BTW, playing assa, derv, warrior, para or ranger shouldn't mean instant win; the only available defense against melee in most situations *is* a blind. That's what blind is supposed to do. And guess what? Blind is extremely cheap to remove, look at the BA or BHA rangers. Mending touch or Dismiss Condition (3 sec!) come in mind. Sure, you can't continue to play your warrior skillbar with your 7 uberkill-skills including instagib-guarantee in RA, but hey - either go to TA and get a monk or learn to create/use decent builds for Random Teams - and that means bringing some condition removal skill. Nerfing is not intended for making it easier to win with a specific class, nerfing is for removing otherwise unsolvable problems. Removing blind condition fast and cheap really isn't such a problem. --Xer 11:45, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Condition removal every 3 seconds... Let me throw some numbers out there. Mantra of inscriptions 40% recharge redux + 10 second recharg = 6 second recharge. 2x blind, 6/2 = 3. So at the cost of 1 energy we get to spam blind on 1 target every 3 seconds, or you can blind two people every 6 seconds. Then there's the rest of a mesmer bar that can be used to shutdown a caster. 3 in 1 shutdown. Only reliable counter's are Assassin's Remedy, Sight Beyond Sight, and Avatar of Melandru, two of which have common counters the other is not so useful in 4v4. Finally there's fast casting which makes < 1 seoond difficult to interrupt. Synergy is far too effective.~>Sins WDBAssassin-tango-icon-20.png 14:42, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
This is a ridiculous oversimplification. Please notice the list of skills in Condition#Skills_removing_conditions. There are countless condition removals, and even some signets which remove conditions for free. And you get much more if chosing one of them - it's a good idea to carry condition removal in RA anyway (and in TA you got a least one healer which is prepared for heavy condition removal). You may remove even much more dangerous conditions. Or do you want to nerf all condition inflicting skills that may lead to death like burning, poison, bleeding and disease or may hinder you like weakness or daze? Just for comparison reasons: Enfeeble may weaken a foe every 5 secs unconditionally thus making many melee builds useless, the non-elite and even hex skill Empathy can be spammed every 10 secs, Virulence + Glyph of Immolation is e.g. a far more potent elite than Mid Sig + Plague Sending and Ebon Dust Aura is actually preferred for blinding anyway because you can spam blinds like crazy. And... if you want to spread blind the cheap way its usually far easier to use a simple blind + Epidemic and get a free Elite slot instead. And, as I said before, I play 4v4 every day and see a Mid Sig mesmer maybe once every third day or so but Blinding Surge or Ebon Dust Aura builds almost every time I play. My conclusion is that this skill is really not overpowered, primary and secondary mesmers have a wide choice of far better Elites/blindness inflicting skills to chose from. --Xer 21:29, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, so, I've been reading this stuff... Blind is one of the counters of Melee characters indeed, but it does offer damage reduction for the time the melee guy needs to remove his blind. If this is a ranger, any mesmer should bring Arcane Larceny/Thievery to strip their condition removal, or bloody Diversion to catch their mend in a 50 sec recharge knocking off their purpose and their ability to catch any other conditions your party places on them. Empathy and Wastrel's Worry, or just any Illusion hex, to finish off. Isn't that, like, a bit too strong? Pastafarian Hunter 21:31, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
Check the dates, you're almost two years late for this discussion. Basically you just went off on a general anti-Mesmer rant anyway. --Kyoshi (Talk) User Kyoshi sig.png 21:46, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Imba[edit]

With plague sending you could keep 2 non-casters disabled 150% of the time. Plox nerf. Idk if it's touch, last time I checked there was something called Frontline.Ninjas In The Sky 16:43, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Plague Sending is AoE. So if they're near each other, there is the potential of shutting down a lot more than 2 people. This skill is over-powered in 4v4. In larger areas of PvP, it borders uselessness. Although I think the recharge being buffed to 10 got people to notice it again, people who use it now would continue to use it if it was reverted. Giving this 15 recharge probably wouldn't hurt it, and would save it from abuse. RitualDoll 18:21, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Yeah I know, or they should make a PvE and PvP version with 10s blind, 25s recharge on PvP. Ninjas In The Sky 18:59, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
no, perfectly balanced78.20.153.111 16:08, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Hate to break it to you, but ever heard of RA? Where you don't know if you'll have a condition remover (a healer)? Ninjas In The Sky 08:15, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Needs a Nerf[edit]

This skill is very imbalanced in PvP areas. I would consider a 30-60 second reload time. Every time I go into RA with my Sin, i always get shut down by Signet of Midnight and even if i bring a condition removal, it still gets spammed through it. But Myself, im not going back into RA untill this skill is nerfed.

That is, what Sight beyond Sight is for. THAT could need a nerf for being an ultimate counter against blindness though in a primary attribute of a profession that benefits not too much from it. Noctarch 16:04, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
if this needs a nerf, please nerf Peace and harmony too .. this skill is perfectly balanced78.20.153.111 16:07, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Rebalance[edit]

Fair, needed a bit of a nerf. SoM mesmers are still useful. Dark Morphon(contribs) 17:33, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Definetly a fair nerf Nikdanbro 11:01, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

now Definetly useless 87.189.234.105 18:11, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

More of an unnecessay proof that several Mesmer spells have 2-seconds casting time onl to justify Fast Castings existence. Noctarch 16:10, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Better, but still needs some work, we are talking about a skill that can keep 5 of the 10 classes in the game disabled 100% of the time. welle now its 80% of the time (2 seconds cast, not factoring fastcasting). and i think i've made this argument before but how do you justify this skill yet make every skill that causes dazed, which isnt nearly as effective at shutting down a spell castors as blind is at shutting down the weapon master classes, only cause if for what 7 seconds or less and only under severly limiting conditions. why is blind (a passive shut down conditon) easier to apply then daze (an active shut down condition)? shouldn't it be the other way around? w/e 70.6.52.198 14:57, 15 August 2008 (UTC)Auron Bushi

Because Blind never causes an entire team to fail. If you blind a sin, you decrease their damage output and hey hey, the monk removes it inside of five seconds. If you daze a monk and then put any sort of competent pressure on him, he's probably going down. Krelus Derian 13:55, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
While blinded, you don't get interrupted every hit and you don't attack at 50% speed. You aren't hitting anything, but hopefully you have more than just 7 attack skills on your bar. ~ Da Si 17:38, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

dont sins have that signet that removes 1 condition for every condition on foe? if nothing else just use antidote signet...--Justice 19:09, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Possibility for PvE?[edit]

  • Elite Sig, 1cast, 60recharge
  • Create a level: [1-16-20] Nightmare. It uses Touch of Agony and Vampiric Touch. Cannot have more then [1-2] Midnight Nightmares under your control. Dies after 60 seconds.

Give the mesmers a nightmare pet for pve please :-) Justice 07:11, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

That doesn't make sense, why have it able to make 2 Nightmares when the recharge and duration of the nightmare is both 60? You can't half casting time signets. 219.88.197.68 12:54, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

LOL...mantra of signets/inscriptions and symbolic posture. Justice 19:17, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Terrible....god-awful, shit-poor terrible idea. The last thing we need are Asuran-like summons for normal elites. I agree with you that SoM is a bad idea for PvE, but suggest that it be AoE blind or something.....not this. I mean, hell, this is out-done by Throw Dirt Throw Dirt which is pretty ridiculous, but still summoning is not a way to fix this. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 19:57, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

I want fun skills, not elite aoe blind on my mesmer. If they did make it aoe blind you know it would be adjacent at best simply because its a free skill. I dont want a buff to an elite blind that still wont get used in pve, i want a skill thats worth using in pve. But want is irrelevant and theres no need to be a rude jerk about it. Justice 00:58, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

QQ more, tbh. I want fun skills too, but making random OP shit that introduces more problems into the game than they fix is exactly what I don't want. And it's the internet. Grow a thicker skin. Life is just as tough as the internet. So once you graduate grade school, be prepared. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 01:02, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Though his first comment was not tactifully worded, I do have to agree with Karate Jesus. There's no need for Mesmers to have summons. ~~000.00.00.00~~ 01:15, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Yea, I can be a little harsh (it could be because I'm tired from work), and I'm sorry for that. But seriously...the last thing we need in GW is more stuff like this. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 01:17, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Cause your idea was poop. His idea is poop too, so it's ok. FleshAndFaith 23:48, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

This reeks for an update in PvE,cause mesmers,or anyone can just go /e secondary and spam blinding surge,it's en cost isn't that high...as i can see it only wars have a point in using this skill, because the rest of the melee classes have some better blind(Ebon Dust Aura or Dust Cloak+any ench removal on self,Blinding Powder, onlywars are missing but they can do any of these secondary) and the caster classes just don't like risking touching an enemy for a condition...maybe if it effected foes adjacent to you then maybe it will have more use for casters being overattacked by some melees,or just go blinding surge it has aoe blind...see what i mean bliding surge vs this?95.180.76.188 09:36, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

PVP version[edit]

Elite signet. 1sec cast, 30sec recharge. Turns opposite team's screen black for 1..3 seconds. 82.176.8.4 16:00, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

This really needs to be updated for PvE[edit]

Seriously, how did this escape ANet's attention during the big mesmer update last year? If you want a mesmer elite that inflicts blind then bring Ineptitude, which is better than this crap even at 0 illusion magic. Pjwned 13:26, 11 June 2011 (UTC) I personally don't see how it's that good for PvP either compared to other skills but I don't do PvP either so I wouldn't really know either.

PvE bug?[edit]

I was doing some solo SoS farming on perdition rock and the phantoms were using SoM on the spirits, despite spirits being immune to blind. -Mendicant Ai 29 January 2012
