Moved the /ip command to miscelaneous. --Renegmata 14:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I added the descriptive text to /resign and modified /giveup to refer to /resign. I did this because /resign is by far (based on my experience) the more popular version. Argel 23:46, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

How do you all feel about the title "Special Commands"? To me it seems simpler just to refer to them as "Commands", as was done on GuildWiki. --Mike O'Brien 21:20, 6 April 2007 (EDT)

That sounds reasonable. I would keep the redirect tho. ~ dragon legacy 21:22, 6 April 2007 (EDT)
The name should be in singular, not plural. Command exists, so we should keep this here. -- Gem (gem / talk) 21:40, 6 April 2007 (EDT)
I agree with Gem. How about making Commands redirect here? -Smurf User Smurf.png 21:46, 6 April 2007 (EDT)
Done. -- Gem (gem / talk) 21:47, 6 April 2007 (EDT)

Developer commands[edit]

I see how one could prove that these commands exist, but how do you know what they cause? And how do you know which arguments (strings, ints etc) they accept? I'd like you guys to point that out because if those commands were speculation, that section should look different. ~ dragon legacy 15:55, 12 April 2007 (EDT)

Players who participated in the Automated Tournament System test on the staging servers had access to some of these commands for testing purposes while playing on the staging servers. But that only accounts for some of the commands; other commands seem to be based on speculation. Witness command descriptions like, "believed to be used to summon fireworks."
I really don't know how much value there is to documenting these commands. As you can see from the clarifications I added, most of these commands can't be used on the live servers even by developers. Their implementation isn't even compiled into the live server software. So this section seems to exist mostly to document how we test our software before we ship it. Is that really something people care about?
If people are going to document something about Guild Wars, I'm glad that they're documenting it on this wiki site. But it does seem to me that in this case the presentation of the information (taking up half of a page that's supposed to be about commands people can use) is out of scope with its usefulness. --Mike O'Brien 21:59, 12 April 2007 (EDT)
I like this piece of information. It also makes clear what is known by hte players and what is speculation so there is no room for confusion. And with a short article like this it doesn't harm reading the other stuff either. -- Gem (gem / talk) 00:53, 13 April 2007 (EDT)
How about moving the dev commands that can be used on live servers to an article about GMs, and moving the other commands to an article about testing servers (or whatever they're called)? Then just have a little note about them in this article. -Smurf User Smurf.png 01:11, 13 April 2007 (EDT)
I don't prefer a split of the developer and GM commands into several articles. (also because GM command article would be too small) Better would be a summoning article Developer Commands with a link from this article. BigBlue 04:57, 13 April 2007 (EDT)
That was totally not my point. I think the article is fine as it is, as long as we keep it factual. I'd keep the status quo. All the info is in the first few paragraphs and the stuff about developer commands isn't cluttering the page. ~ dragon legacy 13:49, 13 April 2007 (EDT)
/.m is also a dev-only commmand. I was just stuffing around and i found itAtma 07:20, 15 April 2007 (EDT)

I still think that developer commands should be moved elsewhere. So many of the command descriptions that people are posting are just wrong. I think it's strange that a page full of useful, independently verifiable game information is tainted by the inclusion of speculative information that can't be verified and can't be used by players. --Mike O'Brien 19:11, 27 April 2007 (EDT)

Moved DevCommands to Developer and GM Commands. Mike, can you correct the wrong descriptions? --BigBlueMonk 20.png talk 03:53, 28 April 2007 (EDT)

I worked out some commands also, /.gm, /.die, /.chest and /.gold they did nothing ofcourse, but they were not displayed as unknown or they displayed command unavailable. Pandaemonean 13:02, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

These are developer commands and are not documented on the wiki. As you can see, we decided to retain only usable information. ~ dragon legacy 07:55, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
I found a whole bunch more, cause I'm good like that. /.dev /.win /.map /.item /.fame /.res /.ip /.favor /.p /.t /.teleport. Nah really I was bored. KΦΦbes talk 05:23, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

/time command?[edit]

Would it be possible for ANet to add a /time command, to well, display the time and date? I know it seems trivial, but I figure it could be useful in a few ways. First, this would be great for all those people who don't have a timepiece in the room (although I doubt many are in this situation). Secondly, when special events come up, many players always seem to ask what time it is or when the event starts. If by typing this could somehow show the local time and date, ANet's time (since events revolve around this schedule) and the UTC, then all that spam in All Chat asking such questions would reduce. Just an idea. Dash 05:19, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

To reduce those kinds of questions, it would be more like /time to tell exactly how many more minutes to the next event trigger. -- ab.er.rant sig 05:39, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
While in that particular case (being people asking what time it is due to an event), Dash's suggestion for a more generic time-information command seems much more useful. If you just added a countdown to the next event, people would still be unable to get the time within the game :) Matt 14:23, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Apparently none of your computers has a clock in the corner like the rest. --Lustre Of Havoc 10:25, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Most of us probably play in full screen which doesn't have a clock. I'd be for adding a clock to GUI then having an /event command that has a count down to the next event.Ravion Hawk 20:49, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

I just remembered that i used this command someday playing NF...i only just for fun typed this in the chat...the weird thing is, there is no "Unknown Commmand" message, but i don't know what this command does. Zerpha The Improver 14:37, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

/report[edit]

Well in efforts to improve and revive PVP Anet has killed it for so many gamers like me. If the report command is added in its current form then I for one will NEVER pvp again in GW, will most likely not buy GW2 and probably stop playing. Why? Simply because I have played many many MMO's over the year's and griefing is always a problem, but when the company adds a way for players to intentionally grief and possibly have actions taken against thier account, then they went the wrong way about the fix. Nearly all Dial-up and many slow DSL users are the most adversely affected, but also those with slower computers, the fact that it has become near ucstom after less then 48 hrs to report SLOW loaders as leechers is wrong and stupid, some times when you have reached 100% all us know that you can sit there for awhile, mean while your avatar shows up and players end up reporting you as a leech for no reason, and if enough do it you get "dishonored." Now that in my opinion IS greifing, as defined by another player negitively impacting the play of other players. So as much as I love to AB (14mil faction BEFORE the double xfer update) I will not be getting the faction bonus this weekend, nor will I be pvping if they add this system to the game for good. Please ANet reconsider this griefing measure, as in my opinion this is a violation of your own TOS/EULA due to the fact that you will be allowing others to "grief" legitly and have them "dishonored." 24.73.34.174 02:36, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Startup tags[edit]

Not sure if thats the right titles... But anyway. I recently discovered that starting Guild Wars through a shortcut with a target in the format of '"xxx" -images' forces the program to download all 6.4 gigabytes of content. Extremely useful IMO... I expected to find it here, but that command as well as several other tags are unlisted. I cant remember the others, but I know there are debug tags that create a logfile of the Guild Wars application.

Should these tags be added? Up to you guys, vote ;-) 71.36.24.223 17:29, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

There is a separate article for these tags found under Command line. There is already a link to these on this artical under the "See Also" category. --Thervold 17:37, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

report not working?[edit]

In PvE at least(I don't know about PvP, haven't tried it there) /report does nothing when I use it. --Hawk SkeerUser Hawk Skeer Assassin.png 15:00, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

The report function was in the game for one weekend only as a test. ANet is now tweaking the system and will most likeyl release it finally a bit later. -- Gem (gem / talk) 16:12, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
Ok. --Hawk SkeerUser Hawk Skeer Assassin.png 18:42, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Hopefully it will work, as this might get rid of people who harass others in game verbally (typed text) or visually (emote raping). If only ignore also blocked the actions of the culprit then atleast the emoting wouldn't be as vulgar. Veldrik 13:13, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

With the current system, you can only report players in the same area as you are, this makes it impossible to report people who left a PVP area (like, when you're AB-ing), hope they'll fix that. --Sanna 15:26, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

/follow?[edit]

It either works or doesn't work. Why list it? User Woop sig.pngWoop ‧ talk ‧ 04:15, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

/petname with symbols? Need help.[edit]

Wanted to name my Mountain Eagle "Altaïr" (Latin for "The Flying"). I tried to input ALT0239 for the "ï" but it did not register. I've seen people speaking in Russian alphabet before, and French and German accent-letters, so how do I put accented letters into chat? I asked a guildie and he told me you have to change a program file on your computer so your keyboard works like that or something. Anybody know how to get that accented leter into the GW chatbox? That's basically what I'm asking.

Alt commands don't work in guild wars. The best you coudl try and do is (if you're using windows), go to start, all programs, acessories, system tools, character map. Then find the character and copy it then paste it within guildwars. Hopefullty that should solve your problem. — Eloc 16:48, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanx dude, been looking forever to type a ★ in gw, finally found out how! =D (for anyone who cares how to: font = Arial Unicode MS;...you get like a list of 1 zillion symbols, now, the ★ is like the 2584th symbol, hf =D)--84.192.6.24 20:11, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
The reason you see people typing using other characters commonly found in other languages is probably because they are from that country and are using a keyboard fashioned with their characters on them. --Lustre Of Havoc 10:25, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Chat commands[edit]

There is no command in the article for "Send a message to the alliance channel". If anyone knows of the existence of such a command, or can confirm that one definitely does not exist, please let us know.--War Pig5 21:57, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

/age?[edit]

When trying to no when ur going to get a minipet doesnt work. Does any1 know if u need to play that character for the total number of hours equal to a year? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Skikids10 (talk • contribs) at 12:58, April 12, 2008 (UTC).

No it is based on the date you created the character on, when you type in /age it says something like "You have played this character for x hours over the past x months". So if you started a character today April 12th your first birthday would be April 12th 2009 although I think this is sometimes off be a day or so due to leap years. --Kakarot Talk 13:09, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Along those lines, is there any way to determine what your character's birthday is? 11 months could mean a minipet is coming anywhere from 1 day to 30 days. If I'd have known when I started playing, I would have saved my characters age for reference later. --Ligglered 21:14, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

thats not accurate, my necro had to go 5 after his previous bday month to get his pressie... so "a day or so" is a teeny bit understatement - Stimpson J Kat 21:13, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

It'd be nice if they put in a /birthday command like in Lineage II which tells you exactly when your character was created. I think it is down to the minute, but it is at least to the exact date.Ravion Hawk 20:54, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

/ignore[edit]

A friend of me confirmed it works as long as the one you want to ignore is not on yor friendlist...so remove the tag? Maybe he tricked me and used the fl...so some1 else test it? --Aquila Noctis 18:02, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

/Guard[edit]

/guard seems to be a command too, since it doesn't say "Unknown command" or "Command not available". I'll try to find out what it does. << horsedrowner | talk | >> 09:02, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

/bug[edit]

There seems to be /bug but I think that the Development team should expand this feature and bring up a bug report windows that would all be in game. This way coordinates of the bug location can be properly shown and would allow lots of bugs in game to be fixed. It could also be used to record a mini server side video of where a possible bug may occur and the developers could play it back. I would strongly suggest more people asking for such a feature. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Thunderballs (talk).

Alt-F4[edit]

I think something should be added here about this command. too many newbs fall for this its sad :( can't remember exactly what it does tho..

It's not a special command. It's a windows hotkey closing your game. Works with most Windows Apps. ~ dragon legacy 17:09, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Custom Emotion?[edit]

Is there such a thing as a custom emotion? One day I looked at the chat box, and this was there; <Name> farts. This is no joke! I asked the guy, and he told me some long list of random things, basicly saying that he had a custom emotion. Is this true that you can get one? Unendingfear talk

afaik there is no way to make such custom emotions. Are you sure he didn't just type "farts." in allchat? oO WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 07:41, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Using "/me" in front of your message formats this like an emote in chat. However, your character does not reflect that "emote". ~ dragon legacy 17:08, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Uhm, no, it doesnt? At least, not when I try it :P WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 17:26, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

No, it popped up just like a normal emotion. It was not just typed in. Unendingfear talk

I recant my previous statement since a /me emote is not documented right now. I can't help you there, Unendingfear. Looks like you've encountered something special. ~ dragon legacy 09:38, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Lol! Man if only I knew how to screen capture (or whatever it's called)! But, I still know the name of the guy who did it... LOl! Unendingfear talk

My friend figured it out! xD All you do is put a large space in the wording, and it can come out like this:

Aion 2 Wings & New Dev Commands[edit]

/deaths new text is borked for survivors[edit]

"You have died <x> time(s) and have gained experience since death." This is used even when <x> is zero, and it looks really, really stupid. Perhaps a special case for zero, something like "You have not died" would have been better... Cynique 15:55, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Replying to the person who last whispered you[edit]

How do you reply to the character who last whispered you? Are there any special commands? I tried typing "/r" (works in WarCraft 3 from what I can remember) but it doesn't do anything.
Every time I hear the "ding" sound (my GW1 window is minimized but I have set audio to play when in the background), I restore my GW1 window, but I don't see any messages in the chat log at all. I think it's because the chat log scrolls too much (I'm not viewing Trade and Emotes but it doesn't help) and the whisper is already gone because of all the Trade messages in Kamadan. --219.92.173.229 00:29, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

To reply to a whisper, Press /W or /Whisper T1Cybernetic User T1Cybernetic Glob of Ectoplasm.png 15:27, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
I don't think that's answering the question, which was to automatically reply to the person who last whispered you without knowing his/her character name. You still need to type the character name after /w, which isn't possible if you don't know who whispered you. I don't think there's a way to do it ingame as far as I know. --124.82.61.7 19:03, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

found one maybe[edit]

/.time results in "command not available" in orange text instead of the usual "unknown command" in green. I'm guessing it's a dev use only thing or something similar. Perhaps they could make it so /time or /.time made it display a more accurate in map time with seconds rather than the closest lower minute or whatever /age does now. 72.73.83.219 22:41, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
