Talk:Spirit Channeling

Very nice for Healing Ritualist, great energy management and heals you for 100 for each spirit in earshot.

I agree, at 14 spawning u get a 10 pip enegry regen. Easily countered with weapon of warding or healing breeze on the degen part, i can totally see a rt/mo protect or healing prayers build off of this.74.186.169.130 16:57, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

How many spirits[edit]

How many spirits are needed to be within earshot to heal over the -5 health degen after 10 seconds? Silavor UserSilavorSigIcon.png 17:12, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Considering that -5 degen is 10 points lost each second, during a 10 seconds -5 degen, 100 Hp points are lost. So one spirit sufices. Jacob 21:13, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

And, more than one spirit leads to health gain, which can be very useful. 24.163.76.185 19:48, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

All of this is assuming you're not getting attacked, or degenerated while this is going on. 24.237.82.247 07:07, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Energy gain[edit]

At level 14, you receive +6 energy regeneration. That is the equivalent of 2 energy per second. 2 energy for 10 seconds is 20 energy, but it costs 5 energy to cast. I suppose it is a slightly better energy management than Offering of Spirit or Signet of Spirits. --Eyekwah 15:06, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

No, regarding its recharge its definetly worse than both. Noctarch 12:21, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
No, regarding knowing when to use it, it can be better than both. Just use it at the proper time and you'll be at full energy in no time. Besides, as per all energy management skills, pacing yourself and being smart with energy in the first place is the best energy management. FleshAndFaith 03:45, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
The reason Signet of Spirits and Offering of Spirit are so popular is because most people can't be smart with their energy management. And those are the people that say this skill is bad. =P 72.81.247.139 06:35, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Smart usage cannot beat facts. Worse casting time, removability, less energy over time in exchange for a burst of healing (until the anomaly is fixed) each 30 seconds? Then I prefer being not smart enough and thus choose the intelligent way... Noctarch 18:05, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
I simply dont get Izzy! The Ritualist have 3 elites, all of them giving you 12 energy overall, to gain energy which Offering of Spirit seems overall.--ShadowFog 19:13, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Just going to be Captain Obvious for a second here. With a +20% enchant mod you can get another 2 energy out of this. 12 seconds of +6 regen is 24, deduct 5 for the casting cost and it nets you +19 energy in the end. Assuming you have a great reason to spec 14 SP for it that is... Cirian 17:14, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Why take this if you can take Lyssa's Aura Lyssa's Aura? 62.51.183.226 22:54, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Because Ritual Lords tend not to cast spells on foes which is kind of awkward regarding the long time it takes to set up spirits. Halting to renew Lyssa's Aura just makes this taking even longer. Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 14:01, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Nerfed D:[edit]

Lol no more epic self heals anymore xD -- Halogod35 TALK TO ME NAO plz. :D 16:35, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

And another useless elite added to the pile. -- euphoracle | talk 20:46, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
Actually I have a build that kinda works with it. -- Halogod35 TALK TO ME NAO plz. :D 02:35, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
I still prefer OoS for e-management as well as splinter weapon and ancestor's, however. Rits are meant to be utility healers, focussing on just healing is kind of silly to me. -- euphoracle | talk 13:51, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
This skill lets you have weapon of warding that lasts forever. And you can use it on recharge because the energy is just so over-the-top. User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 06:12, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
I can hardly call the change of this skill a nerf, when it comes to energy managment it's by far the best elite skill the ritualist has atm wich can easily restore your energy bar to almost if not it's max. It easily surpasses OoS and Sonkai when it comes to energy managment, and even more with a 20% enchantment mod. Damysticreaper 17:26, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Lyssa's Aura[edit]

Why is it superior to this in every way? -- euphoracle | talk 21:27, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Because energy gain is meant to be the dedicated role of Inspiration. It's just like comparing Signet of Synergy with Word of Healing, it's wrong and pointless 78.114.165.145 19:39, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
wut? Spawning is "supposed" to help energy too. It just does it poorly compared to Channeling. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 19:45, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
I'm comparing two elite skills performing similar actions, you're not. -- euphoracle | talk 19:51, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
That may be but they still are completely different.Compare Soul Bind and Scourge for example.Lines can completely change the niche of use especially when it boils down to energy management.Something that is supposed to support your build.IMO Lyssa's aura is a broken skill. If anything you should compare it to Offering of spirit since they both give energy and they both are most likely to be used in a channeling (hybrid ?) build. If you want to go communing there are better ways and tbh restoration doesn't need that much energy management in general.Yeen 13:23, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

weird elite[edit]

i've been on guildwars for almost 3 full years now, and i have NEVER seen this elite before. What?78.23.119.248 23:45, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Its functionality is relatively new (february update). That said, this skill is really good energy management. I use it in an energy intensive restoration build utilising recuperation and spirit transfer and it really gives a good energy return.
This skill is great when there is an SoS user in the group, you can stack heals and weapons and spam them, using SC to bring your energy back up to full almost every time!--Oh Noes, Ritualist Extraordinaire 19:17, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
Definitly the best e-managment elite in the game imo.Damysticreaper 22:31, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

table[edit]

meh it does work like that jon. I calculated every value seperately and input them.--File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 16:15, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Look at the result and compare it to what you intended. Doesn't match. --JonTheMon 16:20, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Quite right. Permission to put this top table on this page? I know the coding is long but meh. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 17:05, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
If that table is added, it should be lower on the page, like in the notes section. --JonTheMon 17:26, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

11 or 12[edit]

There's been some reversion on whether to list 11 or 12 as the rank at which the skill returns 25 energy. I think it needs to state 11 and not 11/12:

  • 11 is the actual rank at which this becomes true; it's the breakpoint.
  • Listing any other value is somewhat arbitrary. Our attribute article suggests distributing points to use ranks of e.g. 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12.
  • There are practical reasons for choosing a rank higher than the breakpoint, but none of them are specific to Spirit Channeling, let alone to the concept of how few/many points you need to invest to get the max return rate.
  • It's also true that you get this rate of return at rank 13, so listing only 11/12 is also arbitrary.

In other words, I think we should stick to the practice of listing breakpoints as the point at which a step function, erm, breaks. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:19, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Ridiculous Energy Returns[edit]

This is perhaps my favorite skill in the spawning power line simply because of the absurd amount of energy it returns. At 15 spawning power while using a +20% enchant mod, I'll gain 40 energy when in earshot of a spirit for a net energy gain of 35 energy. It's awesome. 68.198.97.123 01:36, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Hero Usage[edit]

So, I've been playing around with this skill on a Rit healer hero. The usage of this skill by the hero AI seems to be pretty inefficient. As an example, my healer hero has an energy pool of 40 energy. She seems to be queuing this skill the moment her energy is at or below 30, so it seems the AI is told to use this skill when their energy reaches the 75% threshold, though I did not test if that threshold increases or decreases when adjusting her maximum available energy. Anyway, as Spirit Channeling returns energy instantly upon usage, and then continues to grant energy through an increase in energy regeneration, a lot of the potential energy that could be gained from this skill is lost once her energy reaches the cap, especially if she is in a combat situation where she may not need to cast that many spells.
